ALL MY CHILDREN

APRIL 12, 2001

Greenlee: What is it?
Leo: Bologna. Supposed to be a hit with the paper bag set. Go ahead, try it.
Leo: Tasty, huh?
Greenlee: It's terrible.
Leo: Hmm. Well, you wanted normal.
Greenlee: Does that have to mean bad food?
Leo: Uh-uh.
Greenlee: What are you doing?
Leo: If it blows, it goes.
Greenlee: I was just being honest.
Leo: Hmm. So this is the new you?
Greenlee: Mm-hmm.
Leo: So how far do you plan to take this new honesty thing, Greenlee?
Greenlee: All the way.
Leo: Something to wash it down?
Greenlee: Champagne?
Leo: Uh-uh. Chocolate milk.
Greenlee: Really?
Leo: Yeah.
Greenlee: That sounds more like regression. We're supposed to be picnicking, not going back to the school yard.
Leo: Come on, be nice. I'm winging this, ok? How's the milk?
Greenlee: Could be colder.
Leo: Right.
Greenlee: Hey, look. That cloud looks like an ATM machine.
Leo: Yep.
Greenlee: They say it'll be warming up.
Leo: All right, that's it. If this is what normal people talk about on a date, Greenlee, then normal's way overrated.
Greenlee: Just give it a chance.
Leo: What else are we supposed to do?
Greenlee: I don't know. Being average was never a goal.
Leo: This is what you wanted -- you know, taking things slow, you know, dating like normal people. This is what you wanted. Right?
Greenlee: I lied.

Erica: Hey, what -- I was reading that.
Roger: Now, this day is far too glorious to wallow in the dark deeds of David Hayward. That is what had you so wrapped, isn't it?
Erica: You don't understand.
Roger: Erica, you know everything there is to know about this man. I mean, why subject yourself to the pain of the past when you have so much to look forward to?
Erica: Look, Roger, I'm sorry, I'm not very good company today. Would you please return my newspaper?
Roger: Why are you so troubled? What you had with Dr. David is over, isn't it? I mean, he can't hurt you anymore. Unless you really haven't moved on.
Erica: Well, this is really none of your concern, is it?
Roger: You're right. I'm sorry. I'll leave you alone. My apologies.
Erica: No, look, I'm sorry. I -- I was rude. Please don't go. It's -- it's not you, it's David.
Roger: What has this man done to put you in such a state?
Erica: The unthinkable. He stole the most precious thing I have.

Vanessa: Have you seen this paper? This is a scandal. You have got to do something.
Mr. O'Neal: Well, what do you suggest I do, short of gagging him in court?
Vanessa: He's upset!
Mr. O'Neal: He confessed.
Vanessa: Well, plead temporary insanity. Can't you see that he is not in his right mind?
Mr. O'Neal: If Dr. Hayward doesn't cooperate, there's nothing I can do.
Vanessa: He'll cooperate, he'll cooperate. I will make certain that he understands exactly what's at stake here.
Mr. O'Neal: Well, from what I've seen, he's not too open to suggestions.
Vanessa: Just get the charges against him dropped. You can do that, can't you?
Mr. O'Neal: Given the nature of the evidence and the witnesses, I'm confident of it, but I need your son's cooperation and the family's.
Vanessa: You got it.
Mr. O'Neal: No scenes in or outside of court, no talking to the press, no outbursts.
Vanessa: I will do anything you say, all right?
Mr. O'Neal: Ok. You can start by leaving us alone.
Vanessa: What? Oh. All right. David, David, please listen to Mr. O'Neal. Darling, save yourself.

Mr. O'Neal: This is a time when you need your family, Dr. Hayward. Don't turn your back on them. Well, the DA made us an offer. If you still insist on pleading guilty at your pretrial hearing, the DA will see to it that you're released sometime before your 60th birthday. Since you confessed at the arraignment, I didn't have much room to negotiate. What do you want to do?
David: Take it.

Dixie: Uncle Palmer!
Palmer: Hi.
Dixie: What is so urgent? Are you ok?
Palmer: Oh, yes, I'm fine, fine.
Dixie: You are? Why are we meeting here?
Palmer: Well, the board and I were dealing with David's atrocities.
Dixie: Oh. What -- what's going on?
Palmer: Well, if it were up to me, drawing and quartering would be fine. But, well, we're going to accept his resignation. Now, there's just one little matter I have to take care of and then the whole thing will be behind us.
Dixie: What's that?
Palmer: You.
Dixie: Me?
Palmer: There's something I must insist that you do.

Leo: Whoa, what do you mean you lied, Greenlee? What, did you like the bologna? Because I can --
Greenlee: No, I mean that I've always wanted to be normal like everyone else. You know? I tried so hard, but it's like other kids spoke a language I didn't understand. Stop it. After a while, it was easy to pretend that I didn't care.
Leo: Greenlee, being one of the lemmings doesn't guarantee happiness.
Greenlee: Yeah, but they know something that we don't. They must.
Leo: Who's this "they"?
Greenlee: The people that get it right.
Leo: Like who?
Greenlee: Joe and Ruth Martin.
Leo: Oh --
Greenlee: Do you know that they kiss and still mean it? They do. They hold hands. They even have nicknames for each other.
Leo: Whoa, whoa, whoa, please stop. You're weirding me out. Could we have another example, please?
Greenlee: Ryan and Gillian.
Leo: Oh, the princess and the pauper.
Greenlee: Mm-hmm.
Leo: So that's your idea of a plain-wrapped couple?
Greenlee: Yeah. Yeah, they fell in love, they had all kinds of trouble, but they stuck it out and now they're together. I want what they have.

[Water splashes]

Leo: So what's stopping you?
Greenlee: Me. I don't know how to get it. Sometimes I think everyone but me got a rule book.
Leo: I didn't get one. That's why we're just making things up as we go along.
Greenlee: Yeah. I started making things up when I was 3. We had this French vase with pictures of ladies with wigs and big dresses painted on it. I was forbidden to touch it.
Leo: Which made it all the more fascinating, of course.
Greenlee: Oh, yeah. Yeah. I used to sneak into the living room and hold it in my arms and tell myself these fabulous stories about those ladies every chance that I got. And one day I dropped it. I hid all the pieces. When Mummy found it, she totally flipped. When she asked me if I broke it, I knew what I had to do. I said the maid did it.
Leo: Of course.
Greenlee: Mm-hmm. Mommy apologized to me and when she held me in her arms, it felt so good. I didn't care that the maid got fired. How could I be so horrible?
Leo: You just wanted to be loved.
Greenlee: And I learned that the easiest way to get what I want was to lie. Normal people don't do that.
Leo: I have. My vase was this girl named Esme. We were 5 and buck-naked in the butler's pantry when Vanessa came in looking for some brandy.
Greenlee: What'd you do?
Leo: Well, told her that it was Esme's idea, of course.
Greenlee: Oh.
Leo: After that, we were separated. No more play dates. After that, Vanessa spent a lot more quality time with me just to make sure that I wouldn't go astray. I think she was jealous.
Greenlee: Are we hopeless? I mean, is it impossible for people like us to find the kind of happiness that --
Leo: That what, normal people have? Greenlee, there's nothing wrong with doing it our own way.
Leo: I mean, why be ordinary when we could be extraordinary, right?
Greenlee: Does that mean we can stop drinking warm chocolate milk?
Leo: Yeah, I'll make that up to you. Sorry about that. Listen, I've got some stuff that I have to do, so why don't we meet at the valley inn later for a drink?
Greenlee: Champagne?
Leo: Mm-hmm. The rarer, the better.

[Greenlee laughs]

Greenlee: Ah! Ah! Leo! Oh, God, stop!

Dixie: Do you want me to apologize? Wear a scarlet a in the middle of my forehead?
Palmer: No, nothing as medieval. No, I was hoping that you would come to Barcelona with me. I've rented a villa there on the Mediterranean.
Dixie: Oh, I'm sorry, I can't go now.
Palmer: Well, you see, now is precisely the point. I've made all the arrangements for you and JR to spend two months with me having a wonderful time.
Dixie: That is very sweet of you, but JR is in school right now.
Palmer: That's why I hired a tutor. I mean, we'd hardly leave the boy behind with the likes of Adam.
Dixie: Well, that's incredibly generous of you, Uncle Palmer, but I can't. I'm going to stay here, and so is my son.
Palmer: Because of Hayward?
Dixie: No.
Palmer: Don't deny it. Vanessa told me what happened in that court. Even as he was confessing his -- his sins, you seemed to be mesmerized.
Dixie: What is that supposed to mean?
Palmer: Well, it was evident to everybody in the court. As monstrous as that man is, he seems to have some kind of hold over you.
Dixie: Listen, I'm a grown woman, ok, and I can take care of my own life.
Palmer: Hmm. That's why your family life is falling apart and you're enmeshed with this man who is a menace to all of Pine Valley. Dixie, the best thing for you to do and for JR is to just take a lot of time away from here.
Dixie: Running away doesn't solve anything.
Palmer: Dixie, you could've died because of his antics, and still you refuse to see the truth. And as long as you are within the range of his influence, you never will see the truth. Dixie, you need perspective.
Dixie: And you are the one that's going to give it to me?
Palmer: Mm-hmm. Well, you could leave right now, pick up JF at school, go right to the airport.
Dixie: And what about clothes?
Palmer: Oh, clothes. We can get anything we want in Barcelona. Barcelona's so beautiful this time of year. Please, Dixie, please? Let me help you.
Dixie: No, I'm sorry. You're so sweet and I love you for doing this, but I am not going to accept your offer. Thank you very much. Why don't you go?
Palmer: Oh --
Dixie: Stress isn't good for you.

Vanessa: Palmer? When were you going to tell me about this surprise, Darling?
Palmer: What surprise?
Vanessa: Spain. You weren't planning on going without me?
Palmer: You'd better believe it.

Roger: Tell me, what did David steal?
Erica: Look, believe me, I don't want to burden you. Roger: I'm here to listen. Did you file a police report?
Erica: Oh, no, no. I mean, it's nothing like that. David stole my serenity. I mean, it almost cost me my sobriety.
Roger: What?
Erica: Oh. Look, a few years ago, I -- I became addicted to painkillers. And, uh, David knew this. He knew about my addiction. And still he went ahead and drugged me with Libidozone.
Roger: Oh, at the infamous party.
Erica: No, actually, right here. Right here in this room. I mean, I joined him at his table and the next thing I knew, I was sprawled out over the piano and singing Cole Porter. I trusted David with my life.
Roger: Well, I don't understand. Why would he slip you Libidozone?
Erica: I don't know. He's been so confused, I don't know.
Roger: It must've been horrible. Was it?
Erica: Of course, that's the thing. It was marvelous. I liked it.
Roger: Ok. Excuse my ignorance, but if you enjoyed yourself and yet you didn't choose to repeat the experience, well, what was the harm?
Erica: Well, I think that it's very difficult to explain to someone who's never been addicted.
Roger: Please. Enlighten me.
Erica: Well, the physical dependency -- that goes away. But the emotional addiction -- that is there, and every single day it is a struggle. It's a struggle not to give in to a craving that absolutely nothing else will satisfy.
Roger: Well, that takes courage. I admire that.
Erica: Well, thank you, but I don't think it was courage. I would say it's fear that keeps me from falling back into the addiction really because I just don't think that I could fight it again.
Roger: Erica, you won the first round. You should be proud of that.
Erica: Trusted David. I trusted him so much. I can't believe that he would have done that to me.
Roger: Well, then you'll just have to take it slowly. "One day at a time." Isn't that what they say?
Erica: Yes, it is.
Roger: Hey, would you do me the honor of spending what's left of this glorious day with me?
Erica: Oh, Roger, I really should get back to work.
Roger: Oh, please, there is going to be a beautiful sunset out there. Do you know -- do you know that they say that no two sunsets are alike? Did you know that?
Erica: I'm going to call my office.
Roger: Oh, see, that's great. Now, while you're taking care of that, I'll sneak into the kitchen, see what the chef can whip up for us.
Erica: Well, thank you. Thank you, Roger, for everything.

Maitre d': Good afternoon, Ms. Smythe. Greenlee: Hi, I'
m meeting Mr. du Pres. Would you send over a bottle of his favorite champagne?
Maitre d': Of course.
Greenlee: You remember the vintage?
Maitre d': I'll send it right over.
Greenlee: Thank you.

Donald: Hello, gorgeous.
Greenlee: What are you doing here?
Donald: Is that any way to talk to a friend?
Greenlee: We aren't friends.
Donald: Come on, it's me, it's the Donald. We're simpatico, remember?
Greenlee: Not even.
Donald: You just kill me.
Greenlee: What do you want?
Donald: Well, hey, the dish, the scoop, the down-and-dirty.
Greenlee: Go away, Donald.
Donald: Come on, come on, just give me the goods on your ex-beau Leo. Did he really try to blackmail his brother about drugging those saps on the yacht?
Greenlee: That's none of your business.
Donald: Au contraire, that's the very heart and soul of my business. My readers want to know every sordid detail about Mr. Leo du Pres

Mr. O'Neal: You have to change your thinking, David. Don't be a martyr. I can win this case.
David: You're obviously having a hard time understanding this. It's over. It's not worth fighting for.
Mr. O'Neal: I hope this woman was worth it. Your mother says that she --
David: Leave Dixie out of this, and don't mention my mother in the same breath. Do you understand me?
Mr. O'Neal: I apologize. Was out of line. Let's focus on the strategy. The case against you is predominantly circumstantial -- no witnesses, a lovesick wacko, and a bitter underachiever.
David: Leslie and Gordon were telling the truth. Let it go.
Mr. O'Neal: Do you have any idea what prison is like? You're a damn fool. This isn't a decision to be made in haste. I'm not going to go to the DA until you take the time to evaluate your options. You don't have many of those. Weigh them carefully.

David: Dixie, you came.

Vanessa: Palmer, what is it? What is it? What have I done?
Palmer: You have to ask? You gave birth to two of the most ominous creatures who ever slithered across the face of the earth.
Vanessa: I have tried to keep their problems from you. I have.
Palmer: Those two children are -- they're poster children for disaster. And this latest little fracas? Well, it's just too much. You were supposed to keep David away from Dixie.
Vanessa: Yes, and I tried.
Palmer: And you failed. Vanessa, I spend half of my time putting out your sons' fires.
Vanessa: But, Palmer, I have tried to guide them. I have.
Palmer: Oh, please, Vanessa, please. You're so desperate for their love, you'd do anything for them. As far as I know, you've been covering up for David all this time.
Vanessa: I was as shocked as you were to find out that David had anything to do with that Libidozone. Palmer, you have to believe me.
Palmer: Well, I don't know what to believe anymore.
Vanessa: Oh, Darling, you do believe I love you?
Palmer: My money maybe.
Vanessa: Oh, come on, Palmer. These last few months have been like a honeymoon. I mean, you were so tender, nursing me back to health after my gunshot wound, Darling.
Palmer: Another result of your sons' depravity.
Vanessa: Oh, Palmer, please --
Palmer: See, I thought I could handle your luggage. But I think I took on more than I bargained for when I married you.
Vanessa: Palmer, we have been so close. You can't really be thinking about ending it?
Palmer: Don't push me, Vanessa.

Vanessa: Leo. I need you. This is an emergency.

Donald: Oh, jeez, you shouldn't have.
Greenlee: I didn't.
Donald: Yes, mistress!
Greenlee: Beat it.
Donald: No can do. You see, I'm writing a story, and what a tale it is. This is real Cain and Abel stuff, only both brothers live, you know, so far.
Greenlee: If you don't leave me alone, I'll have you thrown out of here.
Donald: Hey, Greenlee, you know, a story like this could get me right up there with Dominick Dunne. Celebrity scandal and a touch of class, you know? I'll make this worth your while.
Greenlee: What could you possibly give me that I don't already have lots of?
Donald: Well, if you'd just give me a chance to show you my gratitude --
Greenlee: Leave me alone, you pip-squeak.
Donald: A man's stature is no indication of all he has to offer a woman. How's about a walk on the wild side, Babe?
Greenlee: You're disgusting.
Donald: Yeah, all of a sudden you're too good for me.
Greenlee: Please. You write smut. You cater to the sleaziest common denominator.
Donald: And you gave me some of my greatest copy, Ms. Smythe.
Greenlee: Get out of my face.
Donald: Hey, what is this? You gave me the greatest scoop of my career. I mean, what a rush. We shared something special that night. Didn't you remember?
Greenlee: What are you talking about?
Donald: Oh, come on, like you could ever forget? The chemistry was unbelievable.
Greenlee: Oh, you're such a loser.
Donald: Well, you know what? You're such a hypocrite. Least I'm honest about what I do. You act all apple pie now, but at the Crystal Ball, you couldn't wait to tell me that Erica Kane's pride and joy was as gay as pink ink!

Erica: Oh, my God!
Erica: You're the one.
Greenlee: That's right, it was me. What are you going to do about it?
Erica: I warned you not to hurt my daughter.
Donald: Yeah, this is magic. Hey!
Erica: Leave us alone.
Donald: What, and miss the battle of the amazons?
Erica: Robert! Robert!
Donald: This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience here, come on.
Erica: Dispose of this man.
Donald: If you think I'm leaving peacefully, pal --
Erica: And call the police.
Robert: Yes, Ms. Kane.
Donald: You know, wait a second -- you're going to pay for my tape recorder, though, right? Huh?

Erica: How do you live with yourself?
Greenlee: Hmm. Very well, thank you. If you'll excuse me.
Erica: Oh, you are definitely going to listen to what I have to say to you.
Greenlee: Make it quick. I've got a date.
Erica: You have a date? Who would bother with you? You're nothing but misery. You seek out innocent people and try to hurt them. You are so jealous of everybody who has a life that you can't stand it.
Greenlee: I'm the one people are jealous of. Ever since I came to --
Erica: Are you kidding? Laura got close to Leo for one minute and you tried to kill her.
Greenlee: I didn't know she couldn't swim.
Erica: Then you tried to blame it on Bianca.
Greenlee: Lesbianca survived, didn't she?
Erica: Oh, well, you may not. It seems to me it wasn't that long ago that I was visiting you in jail. Don't you remember what I told you at that time?
Greenlee: I'm sure you'll refresh my memory.
Erica: Oh, yes, I will. I warned you never to hurt my daughter. And if you think that was an idle threat, you are dead wrong.
Greenlee: Look at me, Erica. Look real close. Do you see any fear?

Vanessa: What am I going to do?
Leo: Move on. You've got a few other baubles to tide you over till the next victim totters along.
Vanessa: Well, this may come as a shock to you, Darling, but I am not a young woman. Palmer's still my best chance, and I will not lose him -- I can't lose him. You've got to help me.
Leo: Do I look like a marriage counselor to you? If Palmer dumps you, there's not much I can do.
Vanessa: You know, David wouldn't be in this trouble if it weren't for your carelessness.
Leo: Oh, here we go.
Vanessa: No, none of this would be happening if the tapes hadn't gotten into the wrong hands.
Leo: Ok, so now it's my fault.
Vanessa: No, all I'm saying is that my life as I have dreamed of it is coming to a rapid end because of you two.
Leo: Well, you've got a few more lives in you, Vanessa.
Vanessa: Well, I'm not finished with this one.
Leo: Follow your bliss, ok? I'm leaving.
Vanessa: Oh, really, wait a minute! What has happened to you, Leo? You and I used to be on the same side. We had the same dreams, the same goals.
Leo: Well, I grew up, Mother. One of us had to.
Vanessa: Really? How can you be so heartless? We both came here with the same agreed goal.
Leo: Not this again, please?
Vanessa: Oh, no, and if you'd simply done what you swore that you wanted to do --
David: No, don't.
Vanessa: I wouldn't even need Palmer right now.
Leo: Don't, ok? Come on.
Vanessa: Wait. Ha! Wait a minute. Come to think of it, you know, this just may be perfect after all, Darling.
Leo: What might be perfect after all?
Vanessa: Come on, don't be coy with me. I saw you and Greenlee holding hands at David's arraignment. She's still absolutely gaga about you. So there's really no reason why we can't, you know, complete our original goal after all.

David: I never thought you'd come. In fact, I thought you'd never want to see me again. But your being here has given me hope that -- that anything is possible. Is it, Dixie?
Dixie: You have something that belongs to me. I need it back.
David: Anything, Dixie. What is it?
Dixie: My heart. I want you to give it back to me.
David: What are you saying, Dixie? If you're asking me to stop loving you, I can't.
Dixie: You told me to hate you.
David: Do you?
Dixie: You know that I can't. I want to. I should be able to. You looked at me and you lied to me. You -- you put me into an affair that never should've happened.
David: I love you.
Dixie: Don't say that!
David: I have to say it. I confessed everything to show you how much.
Dixie: You confessed because you got caught. You would've gone on living a lie. You would've let me believe that tad and everybody else was persecuting you.
David: But now you know the truth.
Dixie: Do you realize what happened in the courtroom?
Dixie: It was like -- it was like you put me on trial. And everybody saw. Including my husband. They all saw that I care for you. Is that why you did it? To prove to tad that even after he proved what a monster you were that I could still have feelings for you?
David: I spoke from my soul, Dixie. I wanted you to understand that the love that I feel for you is real.
Dixie: The love that you feel for me? It's a perversion. And I totally hate myself for what I've done and for what you've done in my name.
Dixie: And I'm really embarrassed to admit it, but there's a part of me that's still very attracted to you.
David: Then follow it.
Dixie: I shouldn't be here.
David: But you are. It's because you still care, Dixie.
Dixie: It's wrong.
David: No. No, how can it be wrong if it's what changed me?
Dixie: This is you as a better man?
David: Can you forgive me?
Dixie: I don't know. I don't know if I can forgive myself. I destroyed my family. I gave in to feelings that were much better left unexplored.
David: No, Dixie. Dixie, don't deny what we shared, please.
Dixie: It's totally selfish and destructive.
David: No. No! It's what gives me hope. You give me hope, Dixie. That's why I told the truth, that's why I'm willing to take these punishments.
Dixie: Haven't you done enough because of me? Listen, you know, plead guilty if that's what you want, fight the charges if that's what you want, but do it for you. Don't do it because of me.
David: You might as well ask me to stop breathing. I can't stop loving you, Dixie. That's the one thing I can't do for you.

Leo: I'm not going to prove my love to you by scamming Greenlee, Mother.
Vanessa: Leo, I'm not asking you to.
Leo: Ok, now I'm confused.
Vanessa: Well, Darling, you are under the impression that your interest in Greenlee is diametrically opposed to our goal.
Leo: Your goal.
Vanessa: No, no, no, all you have to do is carry that sacred love of yours to the next logical step. Propose. Marry the girl. Live happily ever after.
Leo: On Greenlee's money, right? And then throw some your way? Forget it.
Vanessa: Oh, Leo, Leo, Leo, open your mind, Darling, come on. Greenlee needs us desperately. I mean, everyone knows her family's a complete disaster. She needs us desperately.
Leo: Why does Greenlee need you?
Vanessa: Well, come on, her mother, Millicent -- I mean, her mother is such a dilettante. She's not there. Millicent's not the nurturing type at all.
Leo: Oh, yeah. Yeah, like you are.
Vanessa: No, but, Darling, you know something? I am truly fond of the girl. I am. Besides that, I understand her. She has no friends. We could change that.
Leo: No. No, it would still be you and me living off Greenlee's money, mother. I'm not going to use her like that.
Vanessa: Oh, fine. But you'll abandon me, huh? Whatever fate awaits me out there. This is my hour of need.

Greenlee: Is this where I throw myself to the ground and beg for mercy?
Erica: Don't you underestimate me, especially when it comes to my daughter.
Greenlee: You really need to get a life. You're taking your anger out on the messenger. It's not my fault she digs chicks.
Erica: You publicly humiliated Bianca.
Greenlee: So I spilled that she was gay. She wasn't ashamed of it. You, on the other hand, wanted to keep it a secret.
Erica: I wanted to protect my teenage daughter.
Greenlee: Bianca? You wanted to turn her into a closet case to protect your precious reputation. Hey. You might be able to scare other people -- hell, your own daughter's afraid of you -- but you can't touch me.
Erica: You're not very bright, are you?
Greenlee: I am so on to you, Erica. You play earth-mother to anyone who will listen. You love Bianca. You'd do anything for her. All you want is her happiness. But the truth is you can't possibly love anyone more than you love yourself, especially a child who's such a disappointment.
Erica: Well, isn't that why your parents can't bear the sight of you?
Greenlee: Well, aren't you the Queen of Mean? If you'll excuse me, I'm going to freshen up.

Robert: Right this way.
Roger: Thank you.
Roger: Well, listen, we are in for a treat. Salmon en croute, Caesar salad, chocolate tart. Erica? What's wrong?

Leo: I'm not deserting you. I'm just not going to go along with the plan.
Vanessa: I'm really desperate, Leo.
Leo: Ok, ok, well, then let me give you a little advice -- lose the desperation. Palmer can smell it from a mile away.
Vanessa: You know, I just can't believe that you're really turning your back on me.
Leo: I'm not turning my back on you. Come on, I just don't want to go along with the plan.
Vanessa: Oh, come on, Leo. All you have to do is -- is cooperate. If you just, you know, listen to reason --
Leo: Listen to me! If you so much as pick up a dime off the street that Greenlee drops, I will make whatever's left of your life a living hell. Do you hear me? Listen to me. Are you going to risk that? Good-bye.

Roger: Did something happen while I was away? A problem at the office?
Erica: No, no. Really, it was nothing. Donald Steele was here.
Roger: Where is he? I will wring his neck.
Erica: No, it's all right. I took care of him. Frankly, I'd like to forget about it.
Roger: Good. And what better way than a picnic. You're still game, aren't you?
Erica: I think it's just what I need. And thank you, Roger. You are the only bright spot in this entire day.
Roger: Shall we?
Erica: Yes.

Greenlee: What's this? Bad case of spring fever?
Roger: Uh, if you'll excuse us, young lady.
Erica: Really, Greenlee.
Greenlee: You haven't told her, have you?
Roger: Uh, please, we're late.
Greenlee: What's the matter? Are you too embarrassed to introduce me?
Erica: Roger, what's this all about?
Roger: Uh, we'll discuss it later.
Greenlee: What's wrong with now, Daddy?
Erica: "Daddy"?

Dixie: Look at what you've done to yourself, to your life. This is what comes from loving me?
David: As far as I'm concerned, you're all that matters.
Dixie: No. You are an incredibly gifted surgeon. You save the lives of people who've lost hope. You're going to give them a future and deny yourself your own? I'm not going to let you jeopardize everything because of me. I can't bear it.
David: I'd give up anything for you, Dixie.
Dixie: Fine, give up your career if that's what you want. Spend the rest of your life in jail if that's what you want, but don't do it because of me. I will not be responsible for you ruining your life, ok? I can't do it. So you have to let me go.
David: I can't do that.
Dixie: No, I will not let you sacrifice your life for me.
David: It's too late. I'm willing to give up everything for you. Don't you understand that?
Dixie: No, you mustn't do that!
David: You don't mean that.
Dixie: I do mean that!
David: No, Dixie, how can you mean that?
Dixie: I mean it.
David: After everything that we've shared with one another.
Dixie: It's for the best.
David: No!
Dixie: Let me go!
David: No, it's not for the best! I need you! Don't you understand that? I need you!

ON THE NEXT - - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Leo: Do you trust me enough to keep my secret?

Greenlee: What did I do to you to make you hate me so much? Please, Daddy, tell me.

Dixie: Jake, he broke his hand and they handcuffed him. I want to go with him.

David: I need you. Don't you understand that?
