ALL MY CHILDREN

APRIL 11, 2002

PREVIOUSLY ON - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Vanessa: Who's there?
Leo: Mother?

Tad: Jamie and I were talking about taking a camping trip, if you're interested.
Adam: Why don't you take my private jet?

[Adam on phone]
I've got Martin out of town. Now you do your job -- get him out of Chandler Enterprises.

TODAY'S - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Tad: Elizabeth. Been looking all over for you. Is there any word on any word on Liza Chandler yet?
Elizabeth: She's out of surgery.
Tad: Did they get all of the tumor?
Elizabeth: She's stable and in ICU.
Tad: Thank God. Listen, I'd like to see her if I can, if that's all right.
Elizabeth: Maybe later when she's moved to a room. Right now it's just family.
Tad: Ok.
Adam: You're not visiting my wife, Tad -- not now, not ever.

David: Hi.
Officer: For me?
[David has a bouquet of flowers for Anna]
David: That might be your fantasy, Officer, but not mine. Do you know where I can find the chief of police?
Officer: Wait in there? I'll find her.
David: Great.
[Footsteps]
[Door closes] David: Would you have preferred something else? Perhaps a Lizard skin holster for your .38?
Anna: They're lovely, thank you.
David, I work here. I'm trying to be professional.
David: Yeah, and you visit me at the hospital all the time.
Anna: You ought to keep a low profile around here.
David: Ok. Then why don't we go someplace else where we can -- you didn't hear me, did you?
Anna: No, I heard you. As it turns out, the pipes that burst, you know, in the evidence room? They were tampered with.
David: So what?
Anna: So someone intentionally destroyed the evidence against you.
David: Oh. I see. Well, we're in the right room for it. So go ahead, interrogate me.
Anna: That's not what I want to do.
David: You'd rather I confess? Oh, come on, Anna, do your job. If you have a question, ask it.
Anna: I don't even want to think it.
David: You want me to deny that I had anything to do with the evidence-tampering.
Anna: Yes. But can I believe you?

Trey: Leo du Pres' tape of my client is inadmissible.
Jack: Well, here's a novel approach, Junior -- why don't you let the judge rule on it, then you can object if you want.
Trey: Fine. You're right. That tape's exactly what we need.
Jack: Certainly is. It'll have Vanessa's incompetency ruling overturned and get her back into a court of law where she belongs.
Trey: You're kidding, right?
Jack: Do I look like I'm kidding? She's confessed that she was faking these multiple personalities all along.
Trey: Oh, you're wrong, counselor.
Jack: Watch my lips, Son -- she confessed.
Trey: Vanessa Cortlandt would confess to being Son of Sam, Mamie Eisenhower, or one of the Teletubbies to get out of this hospital. The woman's a whack job.

[Vanessa continues her attack on Leo]
Vanessa: You thought I would stop -- nobody messes -- that -- that is going to cost you! That is going to cost you everything!
[Jack comes into Vanessa's hospital room
Jack: Leo! Leo, are you all right?
Vanessa: Stay away from me! Don't come any closer to me!
Leo: She was going to kill me.
Vanessa: You think this is over? Jack: No, no, no, no. No, you don't. Get some help!
Trey: We need some help in here! Security!
Vanessa: You -- you have no idea who I am. You let me go. You know what I can do to you? Yes, you'll pay for this, you know. You will pay.
Leo: I want you to shut up!
Vanessa: What? You want me -- it doesn't matter what you want!
What you want doesn't matter! Jack: Oh, shut up, will you please? What the hell happened here?
Leo: I don't know, man. I came in and she started choking me with --
[The guard staggers into the room]
Jack: And where the hell have you been, Buddy?
Guard: Getting hit by a truck, it feels like.
Orderly: We got her. Stand back.
Vanessa: You got what? You got what? You have nothing! You have -- you could have, you know, with the doors I could open for you. You have no idea -- orderly: You've caused enough excitement today, Mrs. Cortlandt.
Vanessa: You think so? You think so, do you? Well, I've just begun, fellows. I've just begun! You know what? Listen, Buckos, you back off. I'm not into this. Know something? You want to put these things on, you know what -- I'll have you screaming for mercy in absolutely no time at all. Oh, and I love weakness!
Orderly: It's always something, huh?
Vanessa: Oh, yes. You can't do this to me. You really can't. You really can't. You! You pathetic fools! Do you have any idea? I could have you all gone, just with one solo phone call.
Trey: Vanessa?
[Vanessa stares at the wall as if she sees something - - - or someone]
Leo: What the hell you looking at?
Vanessa: Oh, my -- oh, my --
Leo: What, is she on medication or something?
Vanessa: You. You.
Jack: Did you guys give her some medication?
Orderly: No, Sir.
Vanessa: Oh, my God!
Leo: What the hell's she looking at?
Vanessa: You!
Leo: She's looking at something on the wall.
Vanessa: You!

Tad: I just heard, Liza came through the surgery just fine.
Adam: You're not hearing me. Liza is off limits.
Tad: Would you take it easy? Look, look, look, I know how you're feeling right now, all right? I have been where you are.
Adam: Oh, save the empathy.
Tad: When I thought I was going to lose Dixie, I didn't know what I was doing or saying half the time.
Adam: I'm not asking you, I'm telling you to stay away from Liza because she's ill.
Tad: Well, then I'm not getting this.
Adam: Well, get this -- I don't want you coming anywhere near Liza, me, my family, or my home.
Tad: Well, I'm sorry, but JR might have something to say about that, and Dixie.
Adam: Well, when you find Dixie, if you find Dixie, you have her call me, all right?
Tad: What the hell are you doing? What is wrong with you?
Adam: Just stay away!
Tad: Adam, I care about Liza. She's my best friend. She's your wife, she's not your property. You don't rule over her. Don't turn your back on me! I'm not finished!
Adam: Right, I forgot to tell you -- you're fired.
Tad: What?
Adam: The board voted you out. You'll hear about it later today. You're finished.

Mia: Wow. Your brother looks pretty worked up.
Jake: What, and your brother-in-law's not?
Mia: Well, I think Adam's entitled.
Jake: Well, so is Tad. I mean, your sister and my brother certainly have a shared history together.
Mia: You know, I used to think that Pine Valley was so Norman Rockwell.
Jake: So now you've found out it's more Norman Mailer.
Mia: Hmm, even Norman Bates.
Jake: You know, Mia, I think every family has skeletons in the closet, but over at the Chandler mansion, they're stacked up like cordwood.
Mia: What, are you trying to scare me?
Jake: Just trying to give you a little friendly warning.
Mia: Oh, there's so much love over there. But at the same time, it's like there's so much mistrust.
Jake: Well, your mission, should you choose to accept it -- show them the path of goodness and light.
Mia: Well, I think Colby's got that well in hand. As long as she's got her chocolate ice cream and her mom, she's in heaven. Her needs are pretty simple.
Jake: Hmm.
Mia: You know, one day, when I was little, my life changed. And I was so scared for the longest time.
Jake: I'm sorry.
Mia: No, it's ok. Sorry.
Jake: No --
Mia: It's not about me, it's Colby. I just wish that there was something that I could do for her, that's all. I don't want Adam to see me cry. He'll think I'm a wuss.
Jake: Mia, you don't have to hide your feelings for your sister or her child.
Mia: Adam admires strength.
Jake: That's ridiculous.
Mia: No, it's not ridiculous.
Jake: All right, listen, why don't you -- why don't we go on up to my office, ok, and we'll cut loose on a fresh box of tissues, ok?
Mia: Ok.
Jake: All right, come on. It's all right.

[Brooke steers Edmund, who is blindfolded, into a room]
Brooke: Oh -- oh -- okee-dokee, okee-dokee.
Edmund: Ok? Now can I take this thing off?
Brooke: No, not until I say.
Edmund: Just don't say "ready, aim, fire," ok?
Brooke: Well, I would at least offer you a last meal.
Edmund: Oh, that would explain the blindfold.
Brooke: Oh --
Edmund: Ow.
Brooke: Now stop.
Edmund: Are you lighting something?
Brooke: In a minute, yeah.
Edmund: You know, I've had this thing on for over an hour.
Brooke: Ok, there. Well, I hope you think it's worth the wait.
Edmund: Uh-huh.
Brooke: Uh-huh.
Edmund: Is this some prelude to a kinky love adventure?
Brooke: Adventure? Yes. The kinky factor is up to you. Ahem.
Edmund: Wow. Wow. Very nice.
Brooke: I'll say. Edmund: What are you wearing under that raincoat?
Brooke: Oh, under this? Oh, well, since I knew I was dressing for you -- not a stitch.
[Brooke flashes Edmund]
Edmund: Is it any wonder I love you? Is it any wonder at all? Uh-uh. Uh-uh.

David: I can say that I'm telling the truth, but I can't make you believe it.
Anna: Well, I guess we all believe what we want to, anyway.
David: Well, then I guess the question is, do you want to believe that I tampered with those pipes?
Anna: Tell me you didn't.
David: What does the evidence tell you?
Anna: Well, there's no prints on the pipes.
David: Yeah, but you know that I would never leave prints, right?
Anna: Right, you're no amateur.
David: And I can get latex gloves by the dozens at the hospital.
Anna: Right. We recovered the wrench that was used, though.
David: Hmm, hopefully, not in my car.
Anna: Well, I'm glad to see you're taking this seriously. No, it was in a dumpster in the alley.
David: Well, then cheer up -- it'll lead up somewhere. Are you sure it's the one your felon used?
Anna: Uh-huh, yeah. The marks on the pipe, they match the teeth on the wrench.
David: Good work, Sherlock.
Anna: Why aren't you answering me, David? Did you do this?
David: Because I don't like the question.
Anna: Well, I don't like it, either, but I have to ask it.
David: Let me refresh your memory of something here, Anna -- you're the one who told me that the evidence was destroyed, that the pipes were damaged, right? That did not deter me from wanting to make a deal with the DA. You refused to testify against me.
Anna: Yes.
David: All right, so what happened? Did you change your mind? Or did Jackson change it for you?
Anna: I don't give a damn what Jackson thinks.
David: Well, I hope that's true.
Anna: David, Stamp pulled a lot of strings because of what I did in the Proteus case to get me this job and I want to do it well.
David: There's no doubt that you will, Anna.
Anna: Oh, there's every doubt. This already happened on my watch.
David: Were you supposed to be watching the evidence room? Oh, come on, Anna, you're not omnipresent. You can't keep watch on every little thing.
Anna: This isn't a little thing. This helped you avoid prosecution. How does that look? David: I did not fool around with those pipes and I don't know who did. But I can't prove it.
Anna: I believed you when you said you love me.
David: Nothing's ever been truer.
Anna: All right. Then is it equally true you had nothing to do with the destruction of this evidence?
David: It is.
Anna: Tulips are my favorite, you know.
David: There's not much about you that I can ever forget.
[Pager beeps]
David: It's the hospital. I'm on call.
Anna: I have to go back to work anyway.
David: See you later, Chief Hayward.

[David leaves and all the officers watch Anna]
Anna: Show's over. Thank you, thank you.

Anna: All right, so the scratches match. Let's see if our perp left his signature.
[Anna looks at the wrench that was used to break the pipe in the evidence room]

Jake: How you feel?
Mia: Better. It's just that the last few days with Liza and Colby -- the strain, you know, there's just so many things that everyone wanted to say, but they couldn't.
Jake: And you're afraid of bringing up anything that might make Liza even more afraid.
Mia: Thank you for helping me escape Adam for a few minutes.
Jake: He can be intimidating.
Mia: Yeah, he sure can, especially with Liza's surgery. You know, it's just that I think that he is probably the most demanding man that I have ever met.
Jake: Mia, have you thought about maybe taking a little time --
[Intercom buzzes]
Jake: I'm sorry. Excuse me. This is Dr. Martin. I'll be right there. Mia, we're going to have to take up this conversation later. I have an emergency. Sorry.

Tad: You set me up.
Adam: Why can't you take responsibility for once --
Tad: Don't talk to me about responsibility. This is exactly why you wanted JR out of town with me, because you knew if he found out about it, he'd tip me off.
Adam: J.R. wasn't involved with Chandler Enterprises. Unfortunately, neither were you.
Tad: Congratulations, Adam. Congratulations, you did it. You elbowed your way right back on to that board just so you could dump me!
Adam: That's not the reason I got back on that board.
Tad: You could've fooled me. You are really -- you are -- you are in a class all by yourself. No sooner does your wife get deathly ill than you slime your way back in her seat just so you can take over.
Adam: Liza was making horrible decisions. She would've brought the company down if they continued.
Tad: Oh, and I guess that brain tumor was a real stroke of luck, wasn't it?
Adam: You should be grateful that I'm concerned about Liza and Colby, that I'm doing what's best for them.
Tad: Oh, "grateful." Look, let me tell you something, ok? Just let me tell you something about Liza -- I had no part of her administrative decisions, whatever the hell they were.
Adam: No, of course. You weren't paying attention.
Tad: It wasn't -- I'm not supposed to! Looking over your wife's shoulder is not part of my job description!
Adam: You weren't being paid to nap while the company bled dry.
Tad: I am not a financial officer! If you want to land on somebody, you go land on Doug Mitchell or Fitzpatrick.
Adam: She fired Doug Mitchell.
Tad: That was her call?
Adam: Yes, that was her call.
Tad: Well, it's probably-- it was probably because of the brain tumor-- what do you expect?
Adam: Maybe -- just maybe -- if somebody had picked up on her erratic behavior, maybe we could've found that brain tumor a hell of a lot faster.
Tad: Somebody? Somebody? Wait a minute, by "somebody," I assume you mean me, right?
Adam: Yes, I do.
Tad: Ok, well, let's get this straight -- now not only am I responsible for you financial problems I'm responsible for your wife's health. That's patently ridiculous.
Adam: I don't think so.
Tad: Well, I do! I think you should've known Liza a hell of a lot better than me. You live with her. You spent all that time with your wife, you mean to tell me you didn't notice anything was wrong? You want to blame somebody, Chandler, you blame yourself, not me.
Adam: Jake?
Jake: Got an emergency.
Mia: It's ok, he's not going to Liza. It's ok. She's all right. She's still in ICU. I was actually going to look in on her.
Tad: I think I'll join you.
Adam: Like hell you will.
Mia: Can we not do this now?
Tad: Guess I'll have to wait.
Jamie: Dad.
Tad: Excuse me.
Adam: Come on, let's go.

Tad: What's up?
Jamie: J.R. said you were here.
Tad: I'm here. What's going on?
Jamie: Aunt Phoebe says I have to go Mom and Edmund's engagement party.
Tad: That's it? There's a lot worse fates in the world, son, believe me.
Jamie: It's the same night as our Philly game.
Tad: No, that's impossible. I cleared that night with your mother. I told her all about the game.
Jamie: Aunt Phoebe says I got to do the engagement thing.
Tad: We'll see about that.
Jamie: Where we going?
Tad: We're going home and I'm going to talk to your mother.
Jamie: She's not there.
Tad: What do you mean she's not there. Where is she?
Jamie: She took Edmund to some country place.
Tad: Oh, really? Well, I tell you what -- I will drop you at home and then I'll with the two of them. I'm sure that they left a phone number, right?
Jamie: Sure, but she said for us not to bother them unless it was an emergency.
Tad: Jamie, I'll take care of it son.

Anna: Ooh, perfect. So we have three full, one partial. Let's see if we can match the prints.
Anna: Please don't match. Please don't match. Oh.
Derek: Didn't mean to scare you.
Anna: No, you just surprised me, that's all.
Derek: Well, that's nothing like the surprise you gave us, huh, Chief? Who even knew you were in the running?
Anna: Oh, yeah. I'm sorry, I've been meaning to call you, but --
Derek: You know, I returned from my week in St. Croix to -- and I counted them -- 20 voice mails, all from different callers, all one subject -- we got a new police chief.
Anna: Yeah, I'm aware you wanted the job.
Derek: Yeah, and the smart money in the department was on me and I was all ready to accept, but surprise.
Anna: I hope this isn't going to get in our way.
Derek: You know, I want the job to be done right. And if it is, well, I got your back.
Anna: That's fair enough.
Derek: I do have to admit, though, I like you chutzpah. I mean, how'd you do it? How'd you pull it off?
Anna: Pull what off?
Derek: Who greased your way to the top slot?
Anna: Oh, that's nice, Derek, thank you. Well, since you asked, I'm here solely on merit.
Derek: Oh, just like that?
Anna: Yeah, just like that.
Derek: Huh. All right. Well, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Welcome, and good luck.
Anna: Thanks. I think.
Derek: What are you working on?
Anna: Nothing, it's a B&E, that's it.
Derek: You know, you can pass it on to one of the patrolmen.
Anna: Well, yes, of course, I'm aware of that, obviously. But I'm just trying to familiarize myself with all the procedures around here. You know, it's been a while.
Derek: Yeah, well, you're the boss.
Anna: Derek? You are the best detective in this squad. I expect to learn a lot from you.
Derek: Thanks. I'm sure I'll learn a lot from you, too. Cultivate myself some of your charm and talent for politics. I'll see you.

Vanessa: You. You. Why should I let you bring me down, huh? You sniveling coward! You know, I don't even know why I keep you around! You know, paperweights are more useful, I mean, and certainly your equal in conversation. You know, you're a waste. You're absolutely a pathetic waste.
David: You paged me for this sideshow?
Leo: I wanted you to see this.
Vanessa: Oh, no, why? Why? Because you have no pride, no pride!
Leo: She's freaking out, man. I think this is for real.
David: Is there anything you can find to lock this woman up?
Jack: I've been trying, David.
Vanessa: It's insane that I ever saw anything in you. Oh, God.
David: I'm sorry, little brother, she got her claws into you, but I'm not going to deal with this.
Vanessa: Oh, Charles, Charles, you let everyone down, didn't you? Oh, yes, you --
David: Charles? My father?
Vanessa: God, why? Because you're incapable of being a husband, a helpmate, a miserable failure as a father. You know what, Charles -- you know, earning a living requires you get a job and you keep it. Crawling around to your father and just begging for money is not a career!
David: She's been using my father for her freak show?
Jake: All right, Dr. Hayward, why don't you take your brother down to the ER and have his lacerations treated.
David: Wait a minute. I want to hear this.
Vanessa: You really think so? All because of you. No, my God, my God, you have absolutely no spine. Absolutely nothing! You know what -- have you ever taken an opportunity, every time one even fell right smack-dab on your head? What did you do, huh? You trembled. You trembled. But fortunately, I didn't, didn't. No, I could handle it. And I shouldn't have to handle it, should I, Charles? If you were any kind of man, you wouldn't let me handle it! And don't you give me that martyred look. Don't you dare give me that martyred look, you sniveling little coward, because I'm the one who's suffering here! I'm the one who has to live with this --
David: Shut up, Vanessa!
Trey: Mrs. Cortlandt, please --
Vanessa: Don't touch me!
Trey: If you can understand me, please do not say anything more!
Vanessa: You know what, Charles -- because of your ineptness, because of you, I have had to assume other responsibilities because you weren't man enough to handle it.
Leo: She's completely losing it, David.
Vanessa: Yes, and you know what else? You're the one that brought this evil into the house. You let it filter all the way down through the family. You even let your own sons' life -- you put it in jeopardy! Not to mention mine. Yes. Well, you've never finished anything you started, did you, Charles? No, well, there's always a new day and time to do that, isn't there? Ok, so, Charles, I tell you what, where's your gun, huh? Where is it?
[David loses control and goes after Vanessa]
David: Shut up. Shut up!
Leo: David, David!
David: Shut up!
David: Let me go!
Leo: You can't stop her!
David: The hell I can't! This act is unforgivable!
Leo: It isn't an act!
David: Oh, come on, Leo, you're not blind!
Jack: Just wait outside.
Jake: I think that's a good idea. Let's just give her a chance to calm down.
David: Ok, all right, let me go, let me go, let me go. It's ok.
Vanessa: You think if you duck from everything, it'll just disappear, huh? Well, you can't hide from your own shortcomings, can you, your own failures, no. Well, look at you! You can't even handle a gun with any authority! Oh, God, Charles, take the safety off. Take it off, ok? Only you would own a gun and not have the foggiest idea how to even shoot the bloody thing! Go ahead, now, just fire it, shoot! Shoot me! Anything! Oh, if you shoot me, though, who's going to take care of you, huh? Oh, who's going to make certain that the family survives? Because you're certainly not up to the task, are you, Charles? Go ahead, just squeeze the trigger! Fire one for good old Mr. Darwin, survival of the fittest. Charles, will you just please fire the gun, you stupid son of a --
David: You are not going to use my father to get away with your crimes or to impress your attorney. She is not crazy. Make her stand trial. Give her the death sentence like she deserves.
Leo: Me on, let's go.

Vanessa: Oh, my God. Finally, Charles. You finally finished something you started. Oh, my God.

[Outside of Vanessa's room]
Trey: Looks like Leo's videotape won't prove jack, Jack.
Jack: Oh, what a clever boy. Could we talk about what we just saw in there, please?
David: You mean Vanessa's tour de force?
Jack: Leo, this episode, for lack of a better word -- you were taken by surprise?
Leo: Listen, look at the tape. She was perfectly lucid. This came out of nowhere. I mean, I'm telling you, an hour and a half ago, she was perfectly ok.
David: Yeah, right, like Vanessa's ever been ok.
Leo: When I came back in, it was like she was plugged into a wall or something.
David: All right, listen, you just get those attended to, all right?
Leo: Yeah.
David: I'm going to talk the guard here. Where the hell were you when all this going on anyway, huh?

Leo: So do you think that this is true, what she's talking about?
David: I don't know.
Leo: I don't know what to believe, either, man.
David: Well, nothing's beneath Vanessa, is it? Look at the way she used you your entire life.
Leo: I'm sorry that you had to hear any of that, David.
David: She did it. She made my father pull the trigger. She killed him.
Leo: I'm sorry.
David: I'll never forget how she belittled him, made him feel like he was a burden -- to her, to me.

Edmund: How'd you keep this whole thing a secret?
Brooke: Because you're easily fooled?
Edmund: Bad answer.
Brooke: Oh, that's not fair!
Edmund: Mm-hmm.
Brooke: All right, all right. The secret to my success is that I only confided in adults.
Edmund: You criticizing my relationship with my and your soon-to-be children?
Brooke: No, just you're naiveté in thinking that the children could keep a secret.
Edmund: Good point.
Brooke: Mmm.
[Brooke bites into a chocolate covered strawberry]
Edmund: Well?
Brooke: Definitely worth waiting for.
Edmund: They are good.
Brooke: I'm talking about us and where we are now.
Edmund: I am very happy.
Brooke: Could life get any better?
[Knock on door]
Edmund: Maybe we're about to find out. Or we could ignore it.
[Knock]
Brooke: That's an awfully insistent chambermaid. Edmund: I'll tell her
that she's a little late for the turndown service.
[Knock]
Edmund: But I'll take her mints.
Brooke: Double the mints.
[Edmund opens the door]
Edmund: Tad.
Tad: Yeah.
Brooke: Tad?
Tad: You guys expecting the house detective?
Brooke: What are you doing here? What's -- what's the matter?
Tad: Actually, plenty.
Brooke: Is it Jamie? Did something happen to Jamie?
Tad: No, Jamie's fine, but it's nice to know that you care.
Brooke: That I care? Of course I care.
Edmund: What kind of crack is that?
Tad: I think it's time that we had a meeting about how our little hybrid family is going to run.
Brooke: It was the only night that we could get the room.
Tad: But I told you all about it. I told you about the box seats, about the tour. The only reason I scheduled this is because you said yes.
Brooke: It's a baseball game. Edmund: It's a little more than that.
Tad: Thank you very much.
Edmund: I mean, it's a baseball game. You know, plus they were touring the dugout, meeting the players --
Brooke: Oh, well, would you like to go along?
Edmund: I'm just saying it's fun for a kid. It's a big deal, that's all.
Tad: It was a big deal. Now it's nothing but a mess.
Brooke: Look, I -- I just thought you could reschedule. Can't you?
Tad: No! And I don't see that I should have to. I mean, what is the expectation here? Because there's a second daddy figure in the picture now --
Edmund: Whoa, whoa --
Tad: There's no boundaries anymore?
Edmund: What are you talk-- am I causing a problem in your relationship with Jamie?
Tad: Well, I didn't say that, but it's plausible, don't you think? Would you like to weigh in on any of this?
Brooke: Nah, I just think that the two of you should go out in the parking lot and duke it out and whoever wins, well, they'll just run the family.
Tad: Oh, that's helpful. What fun it is to laugh.
Brooke: Tad, all right. You know, I -- I messed up, but you know, it's not a capital offense.
Edmund: No, and we didn't, you know, ask him to blow a game because we're going bowling.
Brooke: I mean, this is a celebration of our life that we're starting together, all of us.
Edmund: Yeah, and Jamie's a big part of that.
Brooke: And it's important -- it matters to us that he's there.
Tad: What matters is that he doesn't get caught in the middle of something.
Edmund: He's not.
Tad: Well, he's certainly getting mixed signals from both sides, don't you think?
Brooke: Well, you know, I didn't know that there were different sides here.
Tad: You know what I mean. Oh, come on, Brooke, I know you do.
Edmund: All right, so it struck you that maybe you should -- ahem -- track us down in the middle of the night and that would help matters?
Tad: No, I thought a problem like this with Jamie was more important than a romantic getaway.
Edmund: I agree.
Brooke: We all do.
Edmund: But you could've called, Tad. Instead, no, you had to come in here and interrupt our evening. I mean, why is that?
Tad: I thought, under the circumstances, it would be better if I got your full attention.
Edmund: No, I think what you wanted was to make Brooke feel guilty and embarrassed.
Brooke: Edmund, it's all right.
Edmund: No, it's not all right to use your son like that.
Tad: Wait a minute. He's my son, too. Maybe you should remember that.
Edmund: Yeah, well, maybe you should remember not to do this Adam Chandler routine.
Tad: "Adam Chandler --" what the hell is that supposed to mean?
Edmund: Just respect Brooke. I don't know what's going on with you, but the worst of him is starting to rub off on you.
Tad: What?
Edmund: Maybe you should just spend a little less time at Chandler Enterprises.
Tad: Yeah, well, it just so happens that's exactly what I'm going to do.
Edmund: Well, great, get back to me when you drop this routine.
Brooke: Stop it! All right, both of you, stop it!
Tad: You want me to take a shot at you for some reason?
Edmund: You want me to take a shot at you?
Brooke: Stop it!
Tad: What's most important to me is that I do not end up disappointing my boy. Forgive me for ruining your evening.

Brooke: It's not just about this baseball game. I know that.
Edmund: Yeah, well, Tad's a real complicated guy.
Brooke: Well, just I wonder what it is about.
Edmund: Well, when you figure it out, don't tell me, ok? I'm going to be in the shower, you know?
Brooke: Oh --

Anna: Damn, the prints match. They match.
Jack: Whose fingerprints match what, Anna?

Leo: Sorry it's not vodka.
[Leo hands David a cup of coffee]
David: It's not exactly as I remembered it. I -- the night my father killed himself, I heard them fighting. I remembered, but what I thought I heard was --
Leo: You don't have to explain this to me, David.
David: I thought Vanessa was leaving him for another man, that -- that she had fallen in love with someone else.
Leo: Well, you were 12 years old. You know, you heard stuff and you matched it to the scenario that made sense to you.

Jake: Excuse me, guys. Listen, we've ordered a sedative for Vanessa and I'm keeping her in restraints.
David: Why don't you throw in her a cage while you're at it.
Jake: And I got the guard back where he belongs.
David: Yeah, where the hell was he when she was strangling my brother?
Jake: Well, we think he may have been drugged, David, and we're running tests to find out.
Leo: Yeah, he seemed like he was a little woozy when he came in there.
Jake: Yeah. Listen, I can't even imagine what this has been like for you and I'm sorry that you've had to go through it, David.
Leo: Thanks.

Mia: Look, no offense, but you look bad.
Jake: No, just -- if you had told me this morning that I was going to sympathize with David Hayward by this evening, I would've said it's impossible. Vanessa Cortlandt is inhuman. How's Liza?
Mia: Oh, she's ok. She's not in any pain or anything. Adam, on the other hand is feeling --

David: Jake, did you order a chem screen for Vanessa, too?
Jake: No.
David: We want her blood drawn before she's sedated.
Jake: Wait a minute, you think this episode was drug-induced?
David: Just order the chem screen, Jake, before it's too late.

Anna: Is there something I can do for you?
Jack: Yes. In fact, there is. You could put your energy to better use, for one thing.
Anna: I'm sure you're going to tell me how.
Jack: Matching old crimes with dead men, that's not exactly a priority, Anna.
Anna: Is there something I can do for you?
Jack: Don't make me lean on you. I can lean hard.
Anna: Oh, come on, Jack. We should be working together.
Jack: Yeah, well, maybe you should've thought of that before you let your thorn of a husband hide behind your badge.
Anna: That's not how it went down.
Jack: It was obstruction of justice, pure and simple!
Anna: You no longer had any evidence against David!
Jack: And you made sure he knew that, didn't you? Tell me, how do you suppose all the evidence against Hayward ended up right underneath that pipe that burst, right there where it would get ruined?
Anna: Maybe if you weren't wasting my time here, I'd be able to get some answers that we both need.
Jack: Well, pardon me if I don't hold my breath.
Anna: You know, I don't whether you're aware of this before you came barging in here, but nothing in the evidence room indicates a forced entry. Isn't that interesting?
Jack: Is there a surveillance camera in that room?
Anna: Oh, no, of course not. If there were, we'd know who did it by now. Why don't you go and talk to some of the officers that were on duty, maybe they can give you some --
Jack: Because, Sister, that's your job. But don't you worry, I'll stay on top of it to help you.
Anna: Oh, I really appreciate your help.
Jack: I'm going to help you right out of a job and your husband right into prison.
Anna: Don't you have somewhere to be?
Jack: You know, you can burn this town to ashes and bury what's left, and I'm still going to uncover the truth.
Anna: That's very inspiring, Jack.
Jack: You know, taking you and Hayward down, that's going to be sweet.

[Jack leaves and Anna talks to herself]
Anna: Whatever you are, you're not stupid. Who the hell is trying to frame you?

Leo: Wait. Hold on a second. Jake can take care of this.
David: When? When? He's not going to draw the blood himself.
Leo: He'll call a nurse.
David: No, he has to call a hematologist, ok? That could take some time.
Leo: So what? It's not like her blood's going to go anywhere.
David: Suppose somebody slipped her a drug, ok? Traces of the drug could leave her system before the hematologist gets here.
Leo: Ok, so what's wrong with this picture?
David: What do you mean what's wrong the picture?
Leo: The guard.
David, Jake said that he was supposed to be here with her.
David: Well, he's probably inside with her.
Leo: Or they could both be gone. Got to be kidding me.
David: Damn her.
[David and Leo stare at Vanessa's empty hospital bed]

ON THE NEXT - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Leo: Thank God you're ok.

Tad: Stay away from my son. Just stay away from him.

Jack: What do you think you're doing in here?

Hayley: This has been fired recently. Mateo, what have you done?
