Ryan: I like you just the way
you are.
Kendall: I bet you would like
me even better if I wrapped up
the whole package with
a princess wave.
Brooke: It's an engagement
party for us.
Could we have the lights down?
Vanessa: Hi, everybody.
Hope you enjoy the show.
[Screaming]
TODAY'S - - - ALL MY CHLDREN
[Maggie sighs]
Maggie: Vanessa on the loose.
God, she could be anywhere.
Oh, no.
[Door handle jiggles]
[Maggie stands behind the door with a heavy object - ready to defend herself]
[Anna gasps]
Anna: Stop it!
Maggie: Anna, it's me!
It's me!
Anna: Maggie -- are you all
right?
Maggie: Oh, my God!
Anna: I'm so sorry.
I'm a little dangerous when
provoked.
Maggie: Oh. Oh, my God. Oh.
Anna: You ok?
Maggie: Yeah.
I'm so sorry.
Oh, my God.
I thought you were David.
I mean, he usually knocks before
coming in, and, gosh,
with my crazy aunt on
the loose, I --
Anna: You thought I was her.
Maggie: Oh.
Please tell me you caught that
crazeoid.
Anna: No.
I'm sorry, Maggie, we haven't.
Vanessa's still out there.
Maggie: Ok -- oh,
well, excuse me, then.
[Maggie locks the door]
Anna: Yeah, that's a good
idea.
Maggie: Please, Anna,
you don't think she's coming
after me, do you?
Anna: I don't know.
She might.
She had a kind of psychotic
episode before she escaped.
She actually tried to strangle
Leo.
Maggie: Oh, my God.
Anna -- Anna, you have to catch
her.
Anna: I know.
I'm good at figuring out
the criminal mind, but I fall
short of predicting the actions
of someone who is barking mad.
['Barking Mad Vanessa' holds Greenlee at knife point in the Valley Inn dining room]
Vanessa: Well, hello,
everybody.
[Vanessa chuckles]
Vanessa: Now, sit.
Sit!
Sit, sit, sit now.
Ha!
Yeah, I think everybody knows
who I am, right?
I am just so thrilled that all
of you loyal fans have turned
out to see just me, you know,
because for the longest time,
I have wanted to give
you a sendoff that you would
never forget!
Leo: Mother?
Vanessa: Ha!
Leo: What are you doing?
Vanessa: What -- who's that?
My dear young boy, what does it
look like?
It's time for my grand finale --
oh, and I'm going to knock 'em
dead.
[Vanessa laughs]
Vanessa: Ooh.
[Meanwhile, at SOS]
Kendall: Hey.
Ryan: Hey.
Don't worry, I'll be finished
here in a minute.
Kendall: Look, Ryan,
about the other night when
I went off on you --
Ryan: Hey, don't worry about
it.
Kendall: Well, I was being
totally irrational.
When you said you prefer
a kinder, gentler me,
I -- I should've taken that
the way you intended it to be.
Ryan: Oh, yeah, and how's
that?
Kendall: As a compliment.
Ryan: But instead,
you thought I was trying
to change you.
Kendall: I was being
defensive.
That's why I made that wise
crack about your wife being
a princess.
I'm sorry.
Ryan: You see, I know you,
Kendall.
You don't do apologies unless
you want something.
Kendall: Ryan, don't be mean.
I came all the way over here
to talk to you about this.
Ryan: Ok, all right.
You know what?
If you're going to play games,
I'm going to -- I'm going
to split.
Kendall: Ok, wait, wait.
You're right.
I do want something.
[In the lobby of the Valley Inn]
Chris: I'll get it.
Erica: Oh.
Thank you.
Chris?
Chris: You mind if we blow
off dinner?
Erica: What?
Chris: My -- my stomach's
giving me a little grief.
Erica: I don't think it's
your stomach.
I think it's that chair.
Chris: Ok, fine,
it's the damn chair.
I feel like I'm in prison.
I couldn't even bend down
to pick up your purse.
Erica: Oh, Chris,
look, you've made such
incredible progress and soon,
you're not even going to need
this chair.
Chris: You're right,
starting right now.
[Chris starts to stand up]
Erica: What are you doing?
Chris?
Chris: I'm going to walk
in there.
Erica: Oh, no, you can't do
that.
Chris: Look, yes, I can.
I can stand and I'm going to --
look, it's only a few steps
away.
Erica: Chris, Dr. Stannart
warned you.
He warned you not to push
yourself.
Chris: Look, the only way I'm
going public is on my own two
feet, and you leaning on me,
not the other way around.
Come on.
Erica: Chris, that day is
coming so soon and then we're
going to make the most of every
moment.
Chris: Erica, I -- I got
no beef with you.
Come on.
Erica: Mr. Stamp --
you agreed to take me to dinner
this evening.
Now, no man has ever stood me
up, and you are certainly not
going to be the exception
to that rule.
We are going into that dining
room and we are going to have
an unforgettable evening.
Chris: Come on, Erica.
[Vanessa laughs]
Vanessa: Oh, listen.
I thought we would start
with a little surprise,
so, Maestro, will you give me
a g and a little arpeggio?
[Piano plays]
Vanessa: Edmund, you take one
step towards that door
and I sever an artery.
Leo: No! No!
Vanessa: Anyone else who
tries to leave before
my performance is over and this
little guttersnipe gets it.
That's better.
David: Vanessa -- or Rosie,
whatever your name is -- this
isn't the way to hold a captive
audience.
Trey: As your attorney,
I advise you to drop the knife.
Vanessa: Oh, but you are not
my attorney anymore, Trey.
You're just another adoring fan.
So, turn off your cell phone,
Dear, sit down and
let me
entertain you
and we'll have
a real good time
yes, sir
yeah, we'll have a real good
time.
You know what?
I will just stay all night
and we'll sing them all!
[Vanessa laughs]
Greenlee: Vanessa,
dragging me around the stage --
Vanessa: Ooh!
Greenlee: Might weigh down
your act.
Vanessa: Oh, no,
nonsense, dear.
You know, I once did a movie --
"Viva Hollywood" --
and my headdress alone was
20 pounds.
You know what?
Maestro, can we take it
from the top again?
Oh, and -- oh, there you are.
This one's for you, boys.
[Vanessa laughs]
[Piano plays]
Opal: Oh, my Lord.
The old bat has really lost it.
[Brooke calls the police without Vanessa seeing her]
Brooke: The Valley Inn dining
room and please hurry.
She's holding someone
at knifepoint.
David: Leo, we got to do
something.
We got to stop her.
Leo: Any sudden move
and she's going to cut Greenlee.
Forget it.
Vanessa: You be patient,
everyone.
All right?
Ok, here we go.
Oh, here comes my lead-in,
which is -- this is the greatest
thing.
This man is a genius, the way
he's put together this act.
You can't believe it.
Oh! Oh, wow!
Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
Ooh, you think you're going to stop
me, young man?
No, no, no, because you know
what?
The show has to go on.
Oh, yeah.
Ryan: You see, I knew it.
A real apology from you was just
a little too much to expect.
Kendall: Ryan, just
because I have an ulterior
motive doesn't mean that
my apology was bogus.
Ryan: Genuine regret
from Kendall Hartless.
Is that -- is that possible?
Kendall: Even I can tell when
I've gone too far.
Dissing Gillian was -- it was
cruel.
Ryan: Yeah, you do it again
and you're history.
Kendall: I won't, I promise.
Ok?
Ryan: Ok.
So, what's next on the agenda?
What are you driving now and how
does it affect getting back
at Erica?
Kendall: Believe it or not,
my motives have nothing to do
with revenge.
Stop!
Stop it!
Would you stop -- I mean it!
This -- this is about my gig
at Enchantment.
Ryan: Oh.
Trying to finesse Erica's
parking spot?
Kendall: I am looking
for a way to hold on to my job.
It's not as easy as I thought it
would be.
Ryan: Right.
The cutthroat world
of cosmetics.
Kendall: It's brutal, Ryan.
I'm serious -- it is.
I mean, it's mostly ad campaigns
and focus groups and --
Ryan: Hey, well, you wanted
the glitz and glamour,
didn't you?
Kendall: Look, look,
I'm in over my head, ok?
Ryan: Ok. Ok.
All right, fine.
What do you want?
What do you want from me?
Kendall: Advice.
You ran your own dot-com
company.
Ryan: Ye, I ran it right
into the ground.
Kendall: Yeah, but you know
the basics.
I was hoping you could help me
decode these financial reports.
It's like reading Sanskrit.
Ryan: Well, why don't
you just ask Erica?
Kendall: Oh, right -- like
she's not just waiting for me
to prove how inept I am.
Ryan: All right.
Well, then ask Greenlee.
Kendall: Oh, yeah --
the wench would love that.
No. No, I can't do that.
I can't ask anyone at
Enchantment without totally
losing face.
[Ryan sighs]
Ryan: Ah, so you want a crash
course in business 101 from me.
Kendall: I'm a quick study,
Ryan.
I'll even buy you dinner.
Ryan: Hmm.
You serious?
Kendall: Yeah.
Yeah, I want to show everyone
I've got what it takes to do
this job.
Ryan: Ok.
Fine, but it's going to cost
you more than, like, a little
quickie at the Burger Barn.
I want, like, a nice dinner,
nice restaurant, no kids' menus
or crayons.
Know what I'm saying?
Kendall: Yeah.
I have a big, fat expense
account.
Name the place.
Ryan: The Valley Inn.
Didn't think I was going to go
that steep, did you?
Kendall: The Valley Inn
it is.
Ryan: All right.
Erica: Chris, come on.
We're here.
Let's just go in for dinner.
Well, I'm --
you were brave enough to take
a bullet.
You are certainly brave enough
to be seen in a wheelchair.
Myrtle: My two favorite
people!
Erica: Oh, Myrtle, hi!
Myrtle: Oh, Darling,
oh, Darling.
How lovely.
Chris: Hi, Myrt.
Myrtle: Hmm.
Oh, it great to see you up
and about -- and together.
Erica: Well, we were just
going in to dinner.
Myrtle: Well, I'll stop
at your table to have a chat
as soon as I've made
my phone call.
Erica: Ok.
Myrtle: See you.
Erica: Bye.
Myrtle: Bye, Darling.
Erica: Well, now, we can't
disappoint Myrtle.
Chris: So I got the two
of you dames ganging up on me
now?
Erica: Yeah, you do.
Looks that way.
Chris: Hmm -- ok.
Ok, you win.
Erica: Ok.
And just give me a moment, ok?
I'm just going to make a little
stop to powder my nose.
Chris: Your nose looks great
and so does the rest of you.
Erica: Well, you see?
Then you have nothing to worry
about because when we go
into that dining room,
nobody's going to be looking
at you.
Vanessa: Everybody just stay
back now.
You keep your distance.
Ok, now, whoever is on that
spotlight, you keep it right
on me because I am the star here
tonight!
This is my turn to shine!
[Vanessa laughs]
Vanessa: I've already wasted
too much time and talent in this
do-nothing town, playing
an absolutely thankless role.
What, the featherhead bimbo,
socialite wife, the little joke
in ermine and pearls.
But little did you know,
huh, that I was giving
the performance of my life.
[Vanessa laughs]
Vanessa: But then, what do
you all know about artistry?
You little patrons of
the Pepper Farm Mill Playhouse.
Good grief, you couldn't even
see what was happening right
under your very eyes, could you?
You know why?
Because I was living the part.
I lived it day in, day out.
You know that?
Day in, day out, and I never
missed a performance, either!
[Vanessa laughs]
Vanessa: No -- ,
but this -- this is not an act,
my dear, you see.
But it is your final curtain.
[Vanessa laughs]
Mateo: I think we all have
a pretty good idea of who
you are, Vanessa.
Vanessa: Who's that?
Oh, Mateo -- Mateo, puppet boy.
Come on, Mateo, fess up.
Wasn't it fun?
Wasn't it a lark playing a big
old bad drug dealer?
David: What are you hoping
to accomplish by doing this,
Vanessa?
Vanessa: What -- what you?
Oh!
Listen, I told you.
I told you before.
This is a mother that's playing
a role you've never seen
her play on the silver screen.
David: You're all drugged up,
aren't you?
Vanessa: I don't take drugs.
Your father and I dealt them,
but I don't take them.
Never.
Never, never, never.
Oh, my goodness.
Palmer.
[Vanessa laughs]
Vanessa: Pete Cooney.
For Pete's sake, Honey --
trailer trash, trailer trash
with a monogram and
a platinum card.
Oh, my, my.
Why don't you move on back
to dogpatch, Sweetie, and take
that little Opal Mae with you,
your little possum queen, huh?
It was her name you used to call
out in your sleep.
Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha.
[Palmer whispers to Opal]
Palmer: Pay no heed to that.
Vanessa: Oh, my!
And there's a handsome
gentleman, district attorney,
Mr. DA Jackson Montgomery --
oh, dear -- who couldn't put
a case together against me
if he had a hammer and
a blueprint.
[Vanessa laughs]
Vanessa: Oh, and speaking
of bungling attorneys,
for heaven's sake -- ooh, Trey!
Trey, stand up.
Stand up and take the fifth.
[Vanessa laughs]
Vanessa: Oh, my, my. Oh --
Leo: Ok, we got to stop this.
David: No, no, no,
no, no, no, let her keep
talking.
Let her run out of air, ok, then we'll make our move.
Leo: We can't let her hurt
Greenlee.
David: That's the point, just relax.
Vanessa: Mateo? Mateo?
Want to come back up here
and make good on that that
at me?
Huh, do you?
Do you?
Mateo: You're going to take
yourself down without my help,
Vanessa.
Vanessa: Ooh!
Such macho self-control.
You know what?
You'd make a fine Proteus,
you know, but you're going
to have to dump that
bleached-blond bimbo wife
of yours.
I mean, why should she have
her own show when my talent's
hanging around loose, huh?
You know what?
Ooh!
Simone -- oh, you little fool.
You fall in love with a married
man and a bogus book deal.
Oh, my God!
Oh!
Oh, oh, Edmund, Edmund
and Brooke -- for heaven's
sakes, co-creators of "Tempo"
expose.
I really should take you to task
for that unflattering
photo cover you did of me.
Oh, my goodness.
Oh, my goodness, and what have
we here?
Special guest.
[Vanessa sees Jamie sitting with Tad]
Oh, my little love.
My Baby.
Oh, no, I haven't forgotten you,
Darling.
[Vanessa gasps]
Vanessa: Lights,
camera, action!
Tad: Leave him alone.
Edmund: You back off,
Vanessa.
Find yourself another victim.
[Erica and Chris walk into the dining room]
Vanessa: Ooh!
I believe I just have.
You lock those doors -- now!
Jack: Get him out of here
right now!
Vanessa: Ho, ho, ho! Oh!
We finally have a real celebrity
in the house.
[Sirens approach]
Vanessa: Erica, it is so kind
of you to come to my cabaret
because I was just about to tell
the crowd here how I used
Enchantment as my -- you know,
as my front for my
drug-smuggling operation.
[Vanessa laughs]
Erica: Well, that's what
you do, isn't it, Vanessa?
Isn't that what you do?
You -- you hide behind people
and then things, just like
you're doing now.
You're hiding behind Greenlee.
Let her go.
Greenlee: Erica, please.
Vanessa: You don't really
want to tangle with me, do you?
Hmm?
Erica: No. No, Vanessa.
I don't want to tangle with you.
Vanessa: Good, yes,
because you're such a little
screaming coward!
Chris: Shut up!
Vanessa: Ooh!
[Chris stands up]
Chris: You want Erica?
You come through me.
Anna: I just wanted to tell you that we're looking
for Vanessa and not to worry,
ok?
Maggie: Thanks.
I appreciate it.
Anna: Yeah.
[Sirens]
Maggie: Well, you know,
look, you have to catch her,
Anna.
Anna: I know. I will.
[Phone rings]
Anna: Excuse me.
Yeah, hi. Devane.
Derek: Chief, this is
Lt. Frye.
We have a situation
at the Valley Inn.
Anna: Where are you, Derek?
Derek: In the lobby.
Vanessa Cortlandt's
in the building.
She's taken herself a hostage.
Anna: I'll be right there.
Maggie: Whoa, whoa -- what
was that?
Anna: Vanessa's here.
Maggie: Wait -- here,
here, here?
Anna: Yeah, it's ok.
You just sit tight,
lock the door, don't let anyone
in.
Maggie: Oh, no, no, no, no!
In the movies, the dumb girl
always stays and she always gets
it.
I'm going with you.
Anna: You have a point.
Ok, come on.
You have to stay under police
protection at all time.
Maggie: No problem.
Anna: Can't get in the way.
Maggie: The more cops,
the better.
Ryan: Hey, Derek,
what's going on in here?
Kendall: What's with all
the cops?
Derek: How the hell did
you get in here?
J.J -- J.J.!
I want this building sealed --
nobody in, nobody out.
Look, you guys are going to have
to wait in the bar.
Ryan: What are you --
Derek: Please, please --
Ryan: Why? What happened?
Derek: Ryan, later, later.
Kendall: Why are all the cops
here?
Ryan: Excuse me.
Myrtle?
Myrtle: Oh, Ryan.
Ryan, listen -- oh.
Ryan: What's going
on in there?
Myrtle: Vanessa Cortlandt --
she's in the dining room there.
She's holding everyone
hostage --
Ryan: What?
Myrtle: And Chris and Erica
are in there.
I'm worried sick about both
of them.
I'm worried sick about all
of them.
Ryan: I'm going to go find
out what's going on, all right?
Kendall: No, Ryan, don't.
Ryan: "Don't"?
What, do you want me to stay
in here?
Kendall: Vanessa could have
a gun.
Ryan: Yeah, well, my father
took a bullet for me.
You want me to walk away
from that?
Kendall: Ok, just be careful.
[Kendall sighs]
Kendall: What is it about
men?
They always have to be heroes.
Myrtle, are you ok?
Myrtle: Yeah, I -- I need
to sit down, Kendall, to get
my breath.
Kendall: All right, here.
Myrtle: Thanks.
Kendall: Just sit here,
sit here.
I'll get you your water.
Myrtle: Thanks.
Kendall: Here you go.
Myrtle: Thank you.
Kendall: You're welcome.
Should I call a doctor
or something?
Myrtle: No, no, I'm fine.
I'm just worried about Erica.
I always am.
Kendall: Oh, don't worry
about it.
Erica's totally invincible.
Myrtle: Are you sure
you don't hope it's
the opposite?
Kendall: No, of course not.
You know what?
If we're taking odds, my money
is on my mother.
Myrtle: It is?
Kendall: Yeah.
I call her the tiny terror.
Vanessa's way overmatched.
Myrtle: You're right.
Kendall: Yeah.
In a celebrity death match,
Erica would win hands down,
hands down.
Myrtle: I agree.
Kendall: So just -- just
relax, drink your water.
Everything's going to be ok.
Myrtle: Thanks, kid.
Vanessa: Agent Stamp,
it's such a pity about that
wheelchair, I mean,
because Erica Kane would
never -- would never be able
to tolerate half a man --
Chris: You ordered a hit
on my son?
Vanessa: Ryan got in the way,
you know?
I mean, you men -- you're all
such damn nuisances!
Chris: I'm going to bring
you down if it's the last thing
I do, you witch!
Greenlee: You're hurting me!
Leo: Mother! Mother!
What about our escape?
Vanessa: Wait a minute --
escape?
Leo: Yeah.
Just like the plan -- you know,
like in Vienna.
Vanessa: Oh, yeah, Vienna.
Yeah, now, there's the baron --
the baron with the gout and --
the bad teeth.
We really took him for a bundle,
remember?
Leo: That's right.
It can be just like that again,
Mother.
Vanessa: Yeah.
Just like old Vienna,
but, you know, everything was
in place.
Yes, you remember the drill.
You remember -- you remember how
we work -- I mean, the key's
always going to be stashed right
there.
You know?
But your brother -- your brother
thinks he's so smart,
but he never sees the forest
for the trees, does he?
No. I knew that all along.
David: You know what the hell
she's ranting about?
Leo: I'm working on it.
Vanessa: I knew it.
David: Well, just keep
her talking, keep her talking.
Try to distract her.
Leo: Mother, Mother -- we're
never going to catch our plane
if we keep screwing around like
this.
Ok, so just -- just let Greenlee
go, put the knife down, and come
with me.
Come on. Come on.
What about the plan, the plan
for Vienna?
Come on.
Vanessa: No!
No, and you know why, Leo?
Because -- because you're lying.
You don't want me.
You don't want me.
You still want this little piece
of trash, don't you?
Leo: No, no, Mother.
I will go with you.
I swear to you I will go
with you.
Just let her go.
Ok?
Just please don't hurt her.
Ok, whatever -- we'll be
at the airport within an hour
and we'll be in Vienna
by the morning.
Come on.
Come on, what about the Grand
Hotel?
We'll have tea at the Grand
Hotel -- you remember that.
Vanessa: I do.
Leo: You remember that.
Just please -- just please let
her go.
Just let her go.
Vanessa: I can't really --
[Trey surprises Vanessa and takes the knife away from her]
Vanessa: Oh, God! No, no, no, no!
Don't touch me! Don't touch me!
Don't touch me! Don't touch me!
Don't touch me! Don't touch me!
No, no, no, no, no!
Vanessa: No, get off me!
No, no, no --
Anna: Vanessa, please don't
make a scene.
Vanessa: It's not my fault.
It's not my fault.
Mateo: This is your swan
song, Vanessa.
Vanessa: Oh, no, no.
Oh, do you think you've won,
don't you?
But you haven't, you know,
because Proteus -- Proteus will
be back.
You know he's going to get all
of you, yes.
Greenlee: Look at you!
You pathetic old woman!
Vanessa: Oh --
Greenlee: You're going
to spend the rest of
your wretched life rotting
in prison!
You -- you --
Trey: It's ok, Greenlee.
She can't hurt you anymore.
Vanessa: Take --
my hands --
Kendall: So you're doing ok,
Myrtle?
Myrtle: I'm fine.
Oh, Ryan -- Ryan, is Erica safe?
Kendall: You know what?
I'll go talk to him.
Hey, what did you find out?
Ryan: Nothing.
I found out nothing.
They have the dining room
blocked off.
I can't find out anything.
Kendall: Well, the cops are
on it.
Ryan: My father's in there.
Kendall: Chris can handle
Vanessa.
Ryan: Not from a wheelchair
he can't.
If anything happens to that
man --
Kendall: Listen -- listen
to me, listen to me.
Chris and Erica are survivors,
ok?
We know this, Ryan.
Any second now, your dad
and my mom are going to walk out
of there like nothing happened.
And I'll bet you five bucks
the first thing Erica does is
check her look in the mirror.
What?
Ryan: You really believe
that?
There's not some small part
of you that's scared about
losing her?
Derek: Ok, everybody,
move them back.
Step back.
Anna: Please.
Thank you.
Vanessa: No, stop,
stop, stop!
There's something really --
I have to prepare this speech
because I have to thank
Mr. Zanuck the first --
the first -- for giving me
my first big break.
Oh, my God.
And I have to thank all
of the little people.
Well, we can't call them little
people.
That wouldn't be nice, would it?
Anna: Vanessa --
Maggie: Vanessa!
Vanessa: So if we don't
thank --
Anna: Oh, Maggie, it's over.
Maggie: No, wait a minute,
Anna.
To think I was afraid of you.
You know what?
I'm going to make something
of myself.
And I'm going to make sure
you pay for what you did
to my sister.
You didn't get away
with a thing.
You didn't get away with a damn
thing, Vanessa!
Vanessa: Oh, yes,
well, it's a wonderful test
scene for you, and I think --
but work on your diction,
would you?
Because that is very important.
Trey: She can't hurt you now.
Greenlee: I can still feel
the blade of that knife.
Trey: No, put it out
of your mind, Greenlee.
You're safe.
Greenlee: Trey, you're
bleeding.
Trey: It's nothing.
Greenlee: No, that whack job
cut you.
Trey: No, really, it's just
a scratch.
Greenlee: You can't just
leave it like that.
Here. Can we --
Leo: Greenlee,
you ok?
Greenlee: Yeah. Swell.
Trey: Looks like I got
the worst of your mom's
meltdown.
Leo: Well, don't expect
a medal, cowboy.
You almost got Greenlee killed.
Trey: I almost got Greenlee
killed?
Leo: You had to play
the hero, right?
Make the big save?
Well, you almost put Greenlee's
life on the line when you did
that.
Trey: Greenlee's life was
on the line.
Leo: No, you hyped
the stakes, Buddy!
Trey: Leo, your mother was
completely unhinged.
I had to act fast.
Leo: Yeah, right.
Danger Jockey to the rescue,
right?
Greenlee: I don't believe
this, Leo.
You're bent out of shape
because Trey saved my life?
Leo: That was a grandstand
play, Greenlee!
Greenlee: Well, yeah --
for my life.
Leo: I had the situation
under control!
Greenlee: Really?
Leo: I was talking Vanessa
down.
She was about to surrender.
Come on.
Greenlee: Or slit my throat.
Leo: Which still might have
happened if he hadn't jumped
you.
Trey: Yeah, but it didn't.
And Greenlee's safe.
Now, I have a question.
When you were talking Vanessa
down, what was that part about
the escape being planned?
Greenlee: Yeah.
Yeah, I'm curious about that
myself.
Leo: Do you remember when
I told you about Vanessa's
confession on the videotape?
Well, I got her to admit
to the split-personality thing
because I told her I was going
to leave the country with her,
that's all.
Trey: And the bit about
Vienna?
And everything being in place?
Leo: Just forget it.
It's over.
It doesn't matter.
I just -- I'm --
I hate that this happened
to you again, Greenlee,
and I'm -- I'm really sorry.
Greenlee: So am I, Leo.
Leo: Can I go talk
to you for a minute?
Greenlee: No, I can't.
I can't do this anymore.
[Leo sighs]
Simone: Leo, are you ok?
Leo: Oh -- well, why wouldn't
I be?
I'm great.
[Leo laughs]
Leo: I mean, at least we got
a slam-bang finish for the final
chapter of the book, right?
Simone: Yeah, yeah.
It's good copy.
Tell me about Vienna.
Leo: It was just an escape
plan that we used whenever
things got hot.
Simone: Well, how did it
work?
Leo: Well, Vanessa would
stash some cash in a locker
at an airport or a bus station
or a train station or
whatever -- just enough to get
us out of whatever country
we were in.
It would tide us over until we,
you know, got our hands
on the big money.
Simone: You and Vanessa?
Leo: Yeah.
She would take the locker key
and she'd put it in a potted
plant somewhere.
Simone: Wow, that's amazing.
Really.
Leo: Yeah, amazing.
Those were the glory days,
Simone.
I mean, she actually thought
that we were going to get back
there.
Simone: I know.
Leo: Can you believe that?
Talk about the grand illusion.
At least we could name one
of the chapters that, right?
Simone: Yeah.
Leo: Look, I just got to get
out of here.
All right?
Simone: Ok.
Leo: I'll see you.
Simone: Ok.
[Maggie sighs]
David: Are you ok?
Maggie: Yeah, I guess.
Now that -- well, now that
they dragged her off
in handcuffs, yeah.
Where are they going to take
her?
David: Probably Oak Haven.
Look, don't you worry, Maggie.
I'm going to make sure that
they fit her an extra snug
straitjacket, ok?
Maggie: Bye - phew.
Leo: Well.
I guess our family definitely
knows how to put on a big show,
right?
Maggie: Yeah, I'm glad
I missed it.
Leo: Listen, can I see
the key to David's room --
Maggie: Yeah.
Leo: Real quick?
Maggie: Sure. What for?
Leo: I think that I might
have forgot something up there.
Maggie: Ok.
Leo: So --
Maggie: Yeah.
Leo: All right.
Opal: Palmer, are you all
right?
Palmer: What a spectacle.
Opal: Oh, boy.
It was quite a floor show,
all right.
Palmer: To think that I paved
that harridan's way
into everybody's lives.
Opal: Oh, you had no way
of knowing.
Palmer: She used me.
She hid behind my respectability
to peddle drugs to my
grand-nephew.
Opal: Well, that she-dog had
us all hornswoggled, Palmer.
Palmer: Not you, Opal.
She never fooled you.
Brooke: Jamie, you know that
Vanessa can't hurt you,
don't you?
Edmund: She's going to be
locked up for a long, long time.
Tad: Jamie, you all right?
You must have been pretty
scared.
[Jamie runs away]
Td: Jamie?
Brooke: I'll -- I'll get him.
[Edmund starts to follow Brooke - Tad stops him]
Tad: Wait a minute.
You're not going anywhere.
Erica: The next time we go
out to dinner, we'll go
to my house.
Chris: I was totally useless
in there.
Erica: That's not what I saw.
Chris: Oh, come on, Erica.
Vanessa was in there flashing
a knife in my face, and there
wasn't a damn thing I could do
about it.
Erica: You stood up to her,
that's what you did.
You stood up to her,
and you defended me.
That's not nothing.
Ryan: There you two are.
Yeah.
Thank God you're all right.
Chris: Yeah.
Kendall: I'm glad you're safe,
Mother.
[Leo, in Maggie's hotel room, remembers]
Vanessa's voice:
Because everything's right
in place, isn't it?
I mean, you remember --
you remember the routine
because the key's always stashed
right there.
Right there, and you know what?
Your brother thinks he's
so bloody smart, but he never
sees the forest for the trees,
does he?
Leo: Huh.
Oh, my God.
If there's one thing I can say
about you, Mother,
you never run out of surprises.
[Leo pulls a key out of one of the plants in Maggie's room]
Edmund: Look, I'm just going
to make sure that Jamie's all
right.
Tad: No, you're not.
It's not your job, is it?
Edmund: What is wrong
with you?
Tad: You are.
Edmund: What did I do?
Tad: What did you do?
In the first place, you were
the one that left him alone
in that hospital so that maniac
could get her hands on him.
Because of you, he's got a nice
little spot on her hit list.
You know that, don't you?
Edmund: Tad, I understand.
Listen, I feel bad that I left
him alone at the hospital.
I'm not going to be blamed
for what Vanessa did tonight,
all right?
I hate what is happening
to Jamie.
Tad: If that's true, then do
us all a favor and leave my son
the hell alone.
[Edmund sighs]
Brooke: You guys want to duke
it out or you want to know how
Jamie is?
Tad: How is he?
Brooke: He's with Phoebe
and Joe right now.
Tad: Did he say anything?
Brooke: He didn't say
anything.
Tad: I'll go check on him.
Brooke: All right.
Brooke: Listen, I don't want you to take
anything that Tad said tonight
personally, ok?
Really, it's been a very
emotional night.
It has been for everybody.
Edmund: Brooke, do me
a favor.
Just tell me something.
Tell me that you know that
I would never do anything --
Brooke: You are not to blame
for tonight.
Anyway, so much for
our engagement party.
Edmund: Do me a favor.
Brooke: Yeah?
Edmund: Can we make a pact?
Brooke: Yeah.
Edmund: No more surprises.
Brooke: You got it.
Edmund: Ok? Promise?
Brooke: Yes.
Edmund: Promise.
Whew.
Simone: Mateo?
I know this is probably a bad
time, but there's something I'd
really like to say.
Mateo: Go ahead.
Simone: Well, about tonight,
what Vanessa said about
you being like Proteus --
Mateo: Uh-huh.
What about it?
Simone: Well, it's a lie.
You're not cruel, nor are
you heartless.
I mean, it's just not in you.
That's not who you are.
Mateo: You have no idea who
I am.
Excuse me.
Erica: I appreciate
the sentiment, Kendall.
It was very tense in there.
It was very tense.
This Vanessa's a very scary
woman.
Chris: Well, I'm glad
you missed it.
It's -- it's a memory you both
can live without, trust me.
Erica: Oh, my gosh,
where's Myrtle?
Myrtle: I'm right -- right
here.
Erica: Oh! Oh, thank God!
Myrtle: Oh, thank God,
you're both safe.
I was, well, worried to death.
Erica: Are you all right?
Myrtle: Yes, yes, I'm fine.
Kendall took care of me.
Kendall: Chris, you should
have seen your son Ryan.
He wanted to storm the dining
room and save you.
Ryan: Yeah, like the cops
would have let me anywhere near
the place.
Chris: It's like they say --
it's the thought that counts.
Erica: Well, I think that
we've all had enough excitement.
I want to get Myrtle home.
Myrtle: Well, I'll tell
you what.
I'll see you both in the car,
ok?
Erica: Ok. All right.
Ryan: Well, I'm just glad
that, you know, nobody was hurt.
Chris: And I guess this
turned into a blue-sky day,
after
Kendall: Where's Donald
Steele when you need a headline?
Erica: You really were
worried about me?
Kendall: Who'd believe ?
Erica: Well, I will see
you tomorrow morning
at Enchantment.
Oh, and, Kendall, don't be late.
Kendall: You can lose
the smirk, Ryan.
Ryan: What?
Kendall: You think my soft
spot's showing again.
Ryan: Don't worry, I won't
let it get out.
Kendall: Look, just
because I'm glad Erica's not
dead doesn't mean we're going
to start baking cookies
together.
I'm still watching my back when
she's around.
Anna: What's the word
on Vanessa?
David: I just spoke
with the doctor.
He got the results back
from the blood work.
Jack: Yes, and?
David: Vanessa tested
positive for a drug that induces
psychosis.
Anna: Does he know
specifically what drug was used?
David: Not yet.
He has to run some more tests.
Jack: Look, she was confined
to her room with security
outside.
How the hell did she get a hold
of a controlled substance?
Anna: I guess in her world,
anything's possible.
[Vanessa - in a straight jacket -in her room at Oak Haven]
Vanessa: Twinkle, twinkle
little star
how I wonder
Proteus' voice: Where did
you hide it, Vanessa?
Where did you stash the money?
Vanessa: Shh. I --
I don't know.
[Leo goes to the airport - finds the locker the key fits into - opens it up and takes out a small travel bag. He opens it and finds a LOT of money]
ON THE NEXT - - - ALL MY CHILDREN
Kendall: You miserable,
self-serving little witch,
you did it to me again!
Bianca: You are throwing
around Vanessa's drug money?
Greenlee: Oh --
Liza: Protect Colby.
Mia: What did Adam say to you?
