ALL MY CHILDREN

AUGUST 20, 2002

PREVIOUSLY ON - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Maggie: Until I told you that I kissed Tim, you were all about us. But now -- now what are you doing? What's up?

Tad: Look at the picture. This is Maureen Gorman, the woman you never have to worry about ever, ever again.

Brooke: Oh, thank God!

Maria: Who is Maria Santos Grey?
David: She's the woman you killed.

TODAY’S - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Maggie: Isn't a little late to be playing dress-up?
Bianca: Isn't a little past
bedtime?
Maggie: I was just driving by. I saw the light on. What's with the fashion show?
Bianca: It's my first day of work tomorrow. I'm trying to figure out what to wear.
Maggie: Hmm. It's all very heir to the throne of Enchantment. Take it off.

Edmund: What am I going to find in here?
Brooke: Edmund --
Edmund: Did Tad give it to you?
Brooke: It's kind of a wedding present.
Edmund: For you?
Brooke: For both of us.
Edmund: Can I open it?
Edmund: Maureen Gorman?
Brooke: Tad wanted me to -- he wanted us to have proof.
Edmund: Proof that Maria’s dead?

Maria: What do you mean, I killed her?
David: I'll explain everything in the car.
Maria: Oh, no, I'm not going anywhere with you. No, no, no. Because Brooke English told me that she was looking for Maria Grey.
David: You're confused, Maureen --
Maria: The hell I am, David!
David: This is exactly what I warned you about, remember? I told you that your mind would start playing games on you.
Maria: No, Brooke English told me that she was looking for Maria Grey.
David: You want to believe that because you want to believe Maria is alive. But she's not, Maureen. Maria is dead. You killed her.

Brooke: Tad knows how obsessed I was to identify this Maureen Gorman.
Edmund: Obsessed?
Brooke: I just wanted to make sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that it wasn't Maria. And he got a hold of this picture and he wanted me to have it so that I -- so that I could let go and so I could be with you.
Edmund: We have to promise each other something.
Brooke: What?
Edmund: That we will put this behind us. I loved Maria with everything I had, but she's gone. Maria's dead.
Brooke: Edmund --
Edmund: And you will never live in her shadow. I love you, and you have my heart. All of it.

Maria: Are you saying that I made up meeting Brooke English, that that just didn't happen?
David: I don't doubt that Brooke English tracked you down in Nevada. But as you can see, Maria Grey is no longer --
Maria: No, no, no, no. You told me -- you told me that I killed a man.
David: I lied.
Maria: Why?
David: To protect you.
Maria: To protect me from what, David? What?
David: Maureen, please try to remember how fragile you are, ok?
Maria: Do I look fragile to you?
David: When I found you five years ago, you were extremely weak, remember? Physically, emotionally. But thanks to the treatment that I gave you, you were able to heal.
Maria: I'm not some basket case that you need to protect, David, ok? I have a right to know what I did so that I know why I’ve been running for all these years and why I've been hiding. And I need to know how I killed her. How did she die?
David: You don't need to know that.
Maria: Yes, I do. Please, I need to have my life back, David.
David: That's impossible.
Maria: Why is it impossible?
David: Because -- because you hit her with your car!
Maria: Ok. Ok. You told me that I was in an accident, so -- ahem -- if I hit her with the car, then it must've been an accident, right?
David: Maureen --
Maria: So then I can just go to Brooke and that guy she's getting to marry and I can just tell them that it was an accident.
David: No, no! No, you can’t.
Maria: I'm sure the people that live there in that house are probably family of hers, and they would like to know that so that they can move on, too.
David: No, Maureen, you can't do that.
Maria: No, that's got to be why they came looking for me! Right?
David: The crash wasn't an accident!
Maria: What?
David: It wasn't an accident, Maureen. You killed Maria Grey because you hated her.

Bianca: What? What -- what's wrong with it?
Maggie: You look like your mother.
Bianca: Really?
Maggie: Yeah, from ta-tas to boom-boom.
Bianca: Well, it's better than being tagged her "ugly duckling daughter," right?
Maggie: Who put that in your head?
Bianca: The tabloids.
Maggie: Ooh. Thought I had it rough.
Bianca: Yeah, well, first they wrote that I was "pitifully plain."
Maggie: Oh, that's so you.
Bianca: And then the big story was how I starved myself for my mother's attention.
Maggie: Mm-hmm. And then you gave them the special edition by coming out.
Bianca: Yes, me and chastity -- gay because we can't compete with our glam moms.
Maggie: Well, if anyone can, you can.
Bianca: Whatever. I'm not exactly the type for competition.
Maggie: When I said that you looked like your mother, I didn't necessarily mean that as a compliment.
Bianca: I know. I know you're not exactly her biggest fan.
Maggie: She's impressive, I guess, in a "social x-ray meets supermodel meets power monger" thing.
Bianca: I'll keep that assessment between us.
Maggie: What I’m saying is your mother is one of a kind. But so are you.
Bianca: Oh, yes, we are all special and unique. I got that in kindergarten and in group therapy.
Maggie: No, no, no. What -- you are not on a warpath to have to prove something, so you don't have to go out of your way to, you know, flaunt everything every moment of the day.
Bianca: Are you suggesting that my mother dresses inappropriately?
Maggie: Well, she does run a beauty business.
Bianca: A cosmetics conglomerate.
Maggie: Yeah, so she's -- she's glamorous, she's exquisite, she's beautiful. She's at work, at home, at play. She is Enchantment.
Bianca: Exactly. In a vertically integrated kind of way.
Maggie: Yeah. But you're you, in a totally integrated way.
Bianca: Maggie, I -- the cosmetics industry is all about image. If I’m going to work at Enchantment, I have to look like I belong.
Maggie: Pushup bra and lip-glossed to death?
Bianca: To my own taste.
Maggie: Whatever. You will look totally girlie.
Bianca: What, in a dress that makes me look like my mom or just in general?
Maggie: In general. I mean, that's probably one of the things that surprises me about you most.
Bianca: What?
Maggie: Fem isn't exactly --
Bianca: What, gay? Are you kidding me?

Edmund: How do you feel about living at Wildwind?
Brooke: I love Wildwind.
Edmund: Yeah. Plenty of other drafty castles to live in, though.
Brooke: It's your home.
Edmund: Brooke English --
Brooke: It's your children's home, it's your family's.
Edmund: Yeah, a lot of family history here. Alf Gresham beating me up --
Brooke: Oh, Edmund. But you have your mother.
Edmund: My mother singing to me, yeah.
Brooke: And Dimitri.
Edmund: Dimitri -- Dimitri and Angelique and I, we rode every single acre of these grounds. But there's also Sam and Maddie and Maria.
Brooke: Edmund, I'm not uncomfortable with Maria’s memory or her -- or her place in your heart. I want -- I want your kids to remember her.
Edmund: They don't remember her. They were too young.
Brooke: I know.
Edmund: And they only know what I tell them.
Brooke: And I don't want that to stop.
Edmund: It won't. Look, I -- there is so much love that I have that I can't wait to give to you, and so much love that the kids have that they want to give to a mom --
Brooke: And I feel that when I’m with you and when I'm with the kids.
Edmund: Even here?
Brooke: Especially here. I know what this is. You're just worried because of what I did before, that I turned over that picture of your wedding with Maria. I don't know -- maybe you think that I think she's too much of a presence here or something. And I shouldn't have let my pre-wedding jitters get to me. I'm --
Edmund: Listen, Wildwind is your home -- your home. But if you can't feel at home here --
Brooke: I -- I do feel at home. I just never want to take for granted your history with Maria.
Edmund: You don’t. And you never have, ok? I mean, look at the chance you took. Look at the risks you took just to find this Maureen Gorman.
Brooke: Ok. Enough. Ok? Can we have a little champagne before we go to bed?
Edmund: Ok. All right.
Brooke: Ok.
Edmund: I'll check on the kids one last time. Ok? There are no ghosts in this house.

Brooke: Maddie. Honey, what's wrong?
Maddie: Daddy says we have ghosts in the house.
Brooke: Oh, Sweetie.

David: I'm very worried about you, Maureen. You're dangerously close to having a breakdown.
Maria: I just --
David: Now, it's not safe for you to be here.
Maria: I don't remember you -- I don't remember doing what you said that I did.
David: Of course you don't remember because your mind does not want you to remember, that's all.
Maria: You just have to tell me. You've got to tell me everything, David.
David: You know enough.
Maria: No, you've got to tell me about the crash.
David: No.
Maria: Wait, how do you know so much about it? How do you -- were you there? Were you there? You must've been there in the car with me.
David: We took separate cars. I was following you.
Maria: Where?
David: Here.
Maria: Here? Here in Pine Valley?
David: Yeah. Yeah, you came here to be with me.
Maria: To be with you? To be with you?
David: Mm-hmm. We were seeing each other, Maureen.
Maria: No, wait, wait, wait. Um --
David: I was very much in love with you. But I made a big mistake, ok? I -- I had an affair. Now, it didn't mean anything, but of course it meant something to you. And you were furious with me. And after -- well, after Maria was killed, you forgot everything. You also forgot that you loved me. So I didn't tell you that part when I took you away.
Maria: So, this affair that you had was with Maria?
David: Yes. And you wanted to confront her. I tried to stop you. But she came out of nowhere, ok? She was on the road, you know, on the road out to Wildwind --
Maria: Ok, so then it was -- so then it was an accident.
David: No, no. You didn't swerve, Maureen. You didn't try to avoid --
Maria: No, no, no --
David: Maureen, you drove right for her.
Maria: No, I didn't.
David: You accelerated, ok?
Maria: No, I did not! What you're saying I did not --
David: You killed Maria in a fit of jealous rage.
Maria: You're talking about somebody else.
David: I saw the whole thing, Maureen. It was -- it was just awful.
Maria: Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
David: All right, I pulled you from the wreckage. I nursed you back to health. But I couldn't go to the police because I felt so guilty, I felt so responsible, and because I loved you too much.
Maria: Why didn't you tell me? Why didn't you tell me any of this before?
David: Because I tried to spare you.
Maria: About her?
David: She was young, accomplished. She was a mother.
Maria: Oh, no. She had children?
David: Yeah. Two.
Maria: Oh -- oh, my God. Oh, my God. So I --
David: I didn't want you to know any of this, Maureen.
Maria: Wait a minute. So you're telling me I took away somebody's mother because I was jealous?
David: Now you know why I need to get you away from here. If anyone sees you --
Maria: They'll arrest me, of course. They'll arrest me for murdering Maria.
David: Try not to think so much, Maureen. Let's just get the hell out of here, ok?
Maria: No. Uh-uh. I -- I can't. I can’t.
David: Where you going?
Maria: I'm going to go to the house and I’m going to turn myself in.

Bianca: I am feminine, Maggie, from my painted toenails to my waxed eyebrows. I'm a very girlie girl. Does that surprise you?
Maggie: I didn't say you weren't feminine. All I'm saying is that --
Bianca: I know what you're saying. You think that I don't look like what gay is supposed to look like.
Maggie: Oh, please, that's so not fair.
Bianca: Oh, and top it all off, you think that my new gig at my mother's cosmetics empire is a sellout.
Maggie: Wait a minute. Back up because --
Bianca: You know why I took this job, Maggie. My demented half-sister is teaming up with Greenlee --
Maggie: Yeah, I know, to take down your mother, who could rule the world without creasing her eye shadow.
Bianca: I'm just helping my mom through a crisis. Why are you trying to make this about something it's not?
Maggie: You once said that Frankie helped you be independent, helped you get more like yourself.
Bianca: Yeah, she did.
Maggie: And you also said that she helped you break free from your mother's control.
Bianca: What, you think I'm backsliding?
Maggie: I don't know. Are you?
Bianca: I don't know. Maybe.
Maggie: You don't need to break out the cha-cha number and make an impact. You could pull off any outfit ever and get away with it.
Bianca: Anyway --
Maggie: Anyway -- let's go swimming.
Bianca: What, now?
Maggie: Yeah, now. It's hot outside.
Bianca: Yeah, it's also really late.
Maggie: Oh, please, do not get like this before your first day of work.
Bianca: You are totally pulling my chain today!
Maggie: Oh, come on, you've tried on everything else. Why don't you try on free, young, crazy?
Bianca: Fine. Fine!
Maggie: Ok, but can I borrow a bathing suit? Because I don't have one.
Bianca: Yeah, catch.
Maggie: Ooh, cute.
Bianca: There's a bathroom down the hall if you want some privacy.
Maggie: Oh, that's all right. I'll change at the lake. Come on, we'll be by ourselves -- you know, just the two of us. Let's go.

Brooke: Sweetie, listen, I know that those things are scary in movies and cartoons, but you know what? There are no such thing as ghosts.
Maddie: Then why did daddy promise to make them go away?
Brooke: Oh, because he was just teasing. Really, he was just -- he was just being silly.
Maddie: Daddy says Mommy is an angel.
Brooke: Angels definitely exist.
Maddie: My mommy angel sleeps in my room at night.
Brooke: I'm sure she does.
Maddie: But I can't see her because she's invisible. But I have pictures.
Edmund: Ahem. I'm wondering where our little girl is. She's supposed to be in bed right now.
Maddie: Daddy! Brooke says you're being silly about ghosts.
Edmund: You know what? I brought you another picture. And I was wondering if you wanted to take this picture and put it in your room, maybe on your shelf right by your bed.
Maddie: Can I?
Edmund: Yeah, you can. I think it's the perfect time for it right now.

David: Wait, wait, wait, wait! You can't turn yourself in.
Maria: Yes! I took a mother from her children -- her innocent children!
David: It wasn't your fault.
Maria: But it was my fault. You just --
David: No, I did this, ok? I ruined your life.
Maria: And I ruined theirs, David.
David: No, listen to me -- if you go up to that house, you're going to lose everything.
Maria: But I already have. You don't understand. It was almost better thinking that I killed some anonymous man than knowing what I did to this poor woman and her family.
David: I'm sorry, I’m sorry, I'm sorry.
Maria: I can't live with it. I can't live with it.
David: Listen to me -- I'm telling you, if you go to that house, they're going to put you in jail for the rest of your life!
Maria: Don't you understand? That's where I belong!
David: No, no, no --
Maria: Yes! Let me make this one thing right, David!
David: You can't, you can't!
Maria: Yes, I can. You don't understand -- my life has got to matter for something. Do you see the life that I’ve been living?
David: You can't change what's already happened.
Maria: I can change it. Yes, I can. I can change it if I just pay for my crime.
David: You have a child.
Maria: What?
David: That's right. You have a child, Maureen. A daughter.
Maria: David --
David: She looks just like you. Brown hair, brown eyes. If you go to that house and you tell them what you know, you will never see her again. But if you listen to me, if you do what I say, you just might.
Maria: A child? I have a daughter?
David: Yeah.
Maria: Ok. Is she ours?
David: No, no, she's not ours.
Maria: Well, then, who's the father?
David: Look, it's really not safe out here. Can we please go inside? Come on.
David: When I first met you, Maureen, you had already been widowed.
Maria: So, I -- I had a husband who's dead?
David: Yes.
Maria: And where is my child now? Who's taking care of her now?
David: All right, let's try to talk about this in a calm way, ok?
Maria: Where is she? And is she ok?
David: If I told you where she was, you would want to see her.
Maria: Yes, of course I would want to see her!
David: I can't allow that.
Maria: Why? What --
David: Because the police are guarding the house.
Maria: So then she's here, then. She's right here at the house.
David: No, no, no. That's not what I said. But the police have been guarding this house for the past five years now.
Maria: Because -- why, because Maria lived here and then -- so they just -- ok, they figured that I might come back here.
David: That's right, that's right. So the minute you show up, you will be put in jail.
David: You said earlier that you trust me, Maureen. Do you still?
David: All right, then I'll arrange for you to see her. Your daughter.
Maria: When?
David: Soon. On one condition.
Maria: What?
David: That you leave this house and you swear on your daughter's life never to come back here.

Edmund: It's late. Time for all flower girls to be in bed.
Maddie: In bed. Brooke?
Brooke: What, Sweetheart?
Maddie: Daddy said after the wedding is over I can call you mommy.
Brooke: I would love that. Oh.
Maddie: I'm going to walk down the aisle extra fast.
Brooke ok.

Edmund: Does this feel like home yet?
Brooke: It feels like my whole heart is here.

[Bianca screams]
Maggie: What's got you so freaked?
Bianca: I can't help it. Sorry.
Maggie: About what?
Bianca: When we were little, Timmy Dillon convinced me that there was a monster in that lake.
Maggie: And you're still freaked?
Bianca: I just -- I don't like swimming where I can't see who I'm swimming with.
Maggie: You re swimming with me, you freak.
Bianca: It's dark!
Maggie: You don't have to be scared of me.
Bianca: Why would you think that I’m scared of you?
Maggie: I don't know -- the champagne incident maybe?
Bianca: No, you just sent a clear message.
Maggie: No, I freaked.
Bianca: Look, we're way past that.
Maggie: Are we?
Bianca: Yeah. Totally.
Maggie: I still look like my sister.
Bianca: Yeah, and I've gotten very clear about who you are, Maggie.
Maggie: Yeah, but now you wouldn't touch me with a 10-foot pole.
Bianca: What are you talking about?
Maggie: Come on, you swam away from me every single time I bumped into you.
Bianca: I told you, I -- I was scared of the monster of Willow Lake.
Maggie: The way you keep on pushing me out of your life and into Timmy Dillon’s.
Bianca: You are making too much of that, Maggie. I mean, you're the one who said that you don't need my help with him.
Maggie: Or how about every single time Tim and I are in the neighborhood, you seem to disappear?
Bianca: Why are we even talking about this?
Maggie: Because I like you. We've been battling it all year, all three of us.
Bianca: You know what? This has been really fun, but I -- I have to be at work at 8:00 in the morning. I still don't know what I'm wearing.
Maggie: I'm sorry I made the fem comment before, ok? I think you're very pretty and very feminine and --
Bianca: And very gay.
Maggie: Look, when Frankie and I were little, you know, she was tough. She was gutsy, very tomboyish. I never thought what it meant. I thought maybe she was exploring or --
Maggie: I know. I'm just looking at things differently, you know? I don't think that people really fit in the boxes that we make for them, do they?
Bianca: When I was little, my mother loved how girlie I was. I mean, I played with dolls, I loved dress-up, I never got dirty. It's probably one of the reasons that she has such a hard time accepting the fact that I was gay. I mean, I liked sports about as much as she did, which is to say not at all.
Maggie: Well, when did -- how did you know?
Bianca: How did I know what?
Maggie: That you were gay? Is this too personal? Because --
Bianca: No, no, it's not. It's --
Maggie: Ok. So you liked dresses and frilly things and --
Bianca: Masculine and feminine personality traits don't determine sexual orientation.
Maggie: That sounds like you read it out of a book.
Bianca: Well, yeah, but it also has been my experience.
Maggie: Look, I never got to talk about this with Frankie.
Bianca: Me, neither.
Maggie: How did she know?
Bianca: I don't know if she ever knew totally. It's just that something happened and we let it.
Maggie: Even though Frankie’s gone, I just want to understand.
Bianca: Why?
Maggie: To feel close to her.
Bianca: I know the feeling.
Maggie: Then tell me -- how did you know?
Bianca: Well, how did you?
Maggie: How did I know what?
Bianca: That you were straight.
Maggie: Oh, that's not fair. That's another question, not an answer.
Bianca: Ok. Well, when I was 12 or 13, I realized that the way I felt for girls was different from the way I felt for boys. I don't -- it was a lot of things. My friends, when they were all raging for Pearl Jam, I was nuts about the Spice Girls. I mean, nuts, Maggie.
Maggie: So were a lot of girls.
Bianca: Yeah, and most of them wanted to be the Spice Girls. I wanted to marry them.
Maggie: Oh, got it.
Bianca: I mean, eventually, I realized that I had all the usual teenage feelings. I just had them for girls instead of boys.
Maggie: But how did you know it was the real you and not some phase?
Bianca: Because it didn't pass like my desire for a tattoo.
Maggie: I'm sorry, I didn't want --
Bianca: No, who I am, who I want is as much a part of me as my brown eyes.
Maggie: I get it. I really do.
Bianca: Do you? I -- I just feel like I'm under the white light here or something.
Maggie: No, Bianca, I just care about how --
Bianca: You know, I so totally have to be in bed right now.
Maggie: And I just totally freaked you out.
Bianca: No, I -- I don't mind talking about this. I don’t.
Maggie: Except with me.
Bianca: No, it's -- it's just you do. You look just like her, Maggie, and it's -- it's still hard. I'm sorry.

Edmund: Here's to my daughter and her mommy.
Brooke: She made my year.

[Knock on door]
Edmund: Who could that be?
Guard: Sorry to disturb you, sir.
Edmund: What's going on?
Guard: Someone's been in the graveyard and mausoleum.
Edmund: Anything disturbed, damaged?
Guard: No. Probably just teenagers playing "dare ya" again.
Edmund: Oh, local kids dare each other to spend the night with our dead.
Brooke: Teenage test of courage, huh?
Edmund: Double patrol the area, ok? Let me know immediately if anything is suspicious.
Guard: Will do.
Edmund: Thanks, Steve. Good night.

Brooke: Uh-oh. Ghosts?
Edmund: None I can't wrangle, Honey.

Agent: Enjoy.
David: Thanks. One ticket, one-way to Puerto Vallarta.
Maria: David, is there anything else that you're not telling me?
David: Only that I'm sorry.
Maria: Sorry about what?
David: For your suffering. When I found you after that crash, maybe I shouldn't have played God. But I did save your life, and that should count for something.
Maria: My life, whatever it was, is gone and I don't even remember my child.
David: One day at a time, Maureen. One day at a time.

Bianca: Hey, thanks for stopping by. It was really just what I needed.
Maggie: Even the midnight swim in scary Willow Lake?
Bianca: Yes. I just needed a friend to reassure me.
Maggie: Reassure you of what?
Bianca: That I can do tomorrow. That I’ve pulled off a lot tougher gigs than Enchantment.
Maggie: Well, Frankie would've been really proud of you.
Bianca: Frankie would've hurled. She would've said that I was crazy to work for my mother and then she would have laughed in my face.
Maggie: No, no, I don't think so. I think Frankie would've -- I think she would've dug how, you know, you don't let anything define you or limit you.
Bianca: Well, I learned that trick from her.
Maggie: Well, you go and you go knock their mascara off tomorrow. Ok?
Bianca: You know whatever I wear, I'm still going to be me.
Maggie: I know that. I see it whenever I look at you.
Bianca: Good night.
Maggie: Good night.

Edmund: Ready for bed?
Brooke: If that's where you're headed. Mm-hmm.
Edmund: It's your last night as a free woman, you know? Last call at The Pit is 3:00 AM.
Brooke: Stop it. My wild and crazy days are over.
Edmund: Oh, really?
Brooke: Yeah. Whoa.
Edmund: I wouldn't be so sure about that. You did a very formidable wild-and-crazy at the Pine Cone.
Brooke: That was very focused passion.
Edmund: I stand corrected.
Brooke: I feel like I've been waiting for this my whole life. Everything I ever wanted, ever dreamed of, is about to come true.
Edmund: Everything?
Brooke: Tomorrow I’m going to become Mrs. Edmund Grey.
Edmund: And my life will be perfect. And my family, whole.

Man: I got to get on that plane to Puerto Vallarta.
Agent: I'm afraid it's already left the gate. It's on the runway, preparing to take off.
Passenger: There has to be a way to get on.
Agent: I'm sorry. The aircraft's door will not open till it lands in Mexico.

[Maria remembers the crash – and Brooke]
[Baby cries]
Maria: Maddie? Maddie, Sweet Pea?
Brooke: She's fine. She's fine.
Maria: Maddie, hi. Hi, sweetie. Mommy loves you very much. Mommy loves you very much, Maddie.
Brooke: Listen, I'll make sure that she's ok. And I'll come back for you, I promise.

Maria: Brooke has my baby. David, you lied to me. You lied to me.
Pilot: Flight attendants, be seated and prepare for takeoff.
Maria: Stop -- stop the --
Flight attendant: Ma'am, you have to sit down.
Maria: No, I've got to get off the plane right now. Now!

ON THE NEXT - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

[Greenlee gasps]
Greenlee: This can't be happening, right?

Mia: I think Adam’s gone too far. You tell me what I can do to help you.

Maggie: Bianca, is everything all right?
Bianca: It's all coming apart.

Leo: I came here to get some answers, and I’m not leaving until I get them.
