ALL MY CHILDREN

JUNE 12, 2002

PREVIOUSLY ON - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Edmund: Marry me, Brooke.
Brooke: Just name the day.

Mia: I can't stop thinking about last night.
Jake: Me, too.

Adam: I want all of my assets protected. Hide every last dime. Make sure that Liza can't get her hands on any more money.

Leo: I came here to meet my father.
Marius: Your calls are not welcome, and neither are you.

TODAY'S - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

[PARIS - LEO AND GREENLEE'S HOTEL ROOM]
Leo: Do you think they could make these buttons a little harder to get?
Greenlee: Leo, where is your tie case?
Leo: Case? I just rolled a few up in the side of the duffle bag there.
Greenlee: You need to take care of your stuff.

[Leo remembers]
Leo's voice: You told me my father never knew.
Vanessa's voice: That I was pregnant? Of course he knew! He was a titled nobleman. It was an inconvenience. You were an unwanted child, a worthless bastard.

Greenlee: This will have to do.
Leo: I'm not trying to impress anybody.
Greenlee: Lift your collar.
Leo: All I want is to get the money from Vanessa, turn it over to the cops, and buy our freedom.
Greenlee: You want him to like you, don't you?
Leo: Who?
Greenlee: The count.
Leo: Why do you care if he likes me?
Greenlee: Because it would be great for you to have a dad, and anyone -- count, czar, king -- would be lucky to have you as a son.
Leo: I don't even know if he's my father.
Greenlee: Yeah, but if he is --
Leo: What do you want me to do, primp and preen for him? Beg for his approval? I don't do that, Greenlee. That's what you do.

[VALLEY INN DINING ROOM]
Roger: Hello, Mary.
Mary: Hi.
Roger: You look magnificent, Mary. As lovely as when we first met.
Mary: Thank you.
Roger: How much work have you had? Really, really -- I'm curious what it takes to keep oneself so up.
Mary: Roger, do you have a check for me? I'm on my way to the "Bulletin" to drop off the engagement announcement, and the caterer needs a deposit, as well. Ooh, let me guess -- bank error, not in your favor.
Roger: Well, you see, my business partner is out of town, and both signatures are required to transfer funds.
Mary: Business partner? Roger, please. If you can't even take care of your half --
Roger: I can. Greenlee's our daughter.
Mary: No, she's not. She was my daughter from the day she was born. My responsibility, my headache.
Roger: Maternal instincts bring tears to my eyes.
Mary: Don't start. Don't even go there with me. If it weren't for me, you know exactly what would've happened.
[Woodruff arrives]
Mary: Hi, Daddy. Hi. Roger and I were just catching up.
Woodruff: Looked more like the prelude to his flogging. Well, by all means, carry on.

[CHANDLER MANSION]
Adam: Oh. I thought you'd be at work by now.
Liza: Oh. It's nice to know you accept that.
Adam: You are a shark, my darling, and sharks must swim.
Liza: Well, from you, I'll take that as a compliment.
Adam: You're also a very savvy businesswoman. Just one more reason to love you, my darling. Got to run. Have an appointment with my lawyers.
Liza: Have a good day.
Adam: Mm-hmm.

[Laughter]
Winifred: Where did -- you found this? Oh, my. All right, I'll -- I'll take care of it.
Liza: Winifred? Winifred: Ahem --
Liza: What's so funny?
Winifred: Uh -- this.
Liza: A cufflink?
Winifred: Yes. Uh, Jennifer found it in Miss Mia's bed.

[PV HOSPITAL - ZEKE'S OFFICE]
Tad: Jamie, losing Dixie is the hardest thing I've ever had to go through. But being your father, loving you, being loved by you is helping me through it.
Zeke: That's a good place to end the session. Great work, everyone.
Brooke: You want a ride to school, honey?
[Jamie shakes his head and walks out of the office]
Tad: I don't think our son, the babe magnet, wants to arrive anywhere in his mother's SUV . What?
Brooke: Thanks.
Tad: Well, the sad truth is he's more like me every day.
Brooke: Yeah, that's what I'm worried about.
Zeke: Would you like me to hold this time for the rest of the summer?
Tad: It's fine with me, yeah.
Brooke: Yeah, it's fine with me, too, except for the week I'm getting married. I told you about that, right?
Tad: Well, you didn't tell me. I thought you postponed it.
Brooke: Well, we did postpone it, but then Edmund decided that we wanted to reschedule and -- I mean, is that all right with you?

Mia: Liza? Are you feeling ok? Winifred said you wanted to see me before I went to work.
Liza: I'm fine. I just wanted to give this to you. You might want to return it.
Mia: It's a cufflink. How should I know whose it is? I --
Liza: Well, Jennifer found it in your bed. Looks like you and Jake are getting pretty close.

Greenlee: You're not eating, you're not sleeping.
Leo: It's called jet lag. It's what you market this junk for. Here.
Greenlee: Prod, provoke -- I still won't fight.
Leo: I don't want to fight.
Greenlee: Look, Leo, I know how low on the food chain my father has sunk, ok, but he's still the one I want to walk me down the aisle.
Leo: Ok, Greenlee. I'm sorry.
Greenlee: And for the record, I've never begged for his or anyone's approval.
Leo: Ok, maybe I am a little wired. But the count wasn't exactly thrilled to see me until I happened to drop Vanessa's name. Ok?
Greenlee: That's good.
Leo: Why? How do you figure?
Greenlee: It proves that they had an affair. You might really be his son.
Leo: Oh, would you drop the fairy tale? I'm here for the money, not some long-lost hug fest with my dear old dad.
Greenlee: Liar.
Greenlee: Remember when we almost died on that elevator? You said your biggest regret was never knowing your father.
Leo: That's because I thought I was about to die. People say things like that when they think they're about to die.
Greenlee: Yeah, like what's in their heart.
Leo: Greenlee, I told you what Vanessa said. She lied to me. The whole count daddy thing was just a bunch of bull. He was nothing more than a money laundering partner for her.
Greenlee: No, Vanessa was born -- no, Vanessa hatched lying. This latest twist is just one more.
Leo: Vanessa always lies for a reason.
Greenlee: Yeah, to keep you all to herself.
Leo: No, to keep her drug fortune safe. There was a -- the money was always more important than anything else.
Greenlee: And you hoped her motives were pure? That her lying was about loving you?
Leo: Greenlee, why -- why are you so concerned about this?
Greenlee: Because you are. I'm going to be your wife. I'm going to make your world whole.
Leo: Well, my world isn't going to include dinner with dear old dad, I promise you that.
Greenlee: You don't know if that's true. Oh, my God, Leo.
Leo: What?
Greenlee: If he's Vanessa's partner, he could be just as dangerous as she is.
Leo: Ok, don't worry, Greenlee. I'm not expecting a love fest, ok?
Greenlee: What if Vanessa already called him and told him what you're up to?
Leo: Vanessa is locked up.
Greenlee: She called me!
Leo: Greenlee, relax.
Greenlee: No. You could be walking into a trap, Leo.
Leo: Ok, I can handle this.
Greenlee: No, I'm going with you.
Leo: No, no, you're --
Greenlee: And who's going to stop me?

Tad: Of course it's all right. You can -- you can get married anytime you want.
Brooke: Well, you know, I think Edmund --
Tad: Wait, wait, wait. No, seriously. You don't have to explain anything. Life stumbles on, right?
Brooke: I just want you to be able to share in our happiness.
Tad: And I will be. I will be. It's just going to take me some time, that's all.
Brooke: You know, I could talk to Edmund if you --
Zeke: Why would you do that? You already postponed your marriage once.
Brooke: Well, because --
Zeke: Brooke, do you really need to ask your ex-husband if you can get married?

[Mia remembers]
Adam's voice: I just ask that you promise not to tell Liza about this.

Liza: Mia, you can relax. You're acting like a teenager that got caught with a boy in her room or something. You're a grownup. You're not in trouble.

Adam's voice: I didn't mean to upset you. I just want to ensure that you remain a part of this family for many years to come.

Mia: It was a mistake.
Liza: Mia, has something happened with Jake? I mean, is that why you're acting so down, I mean, since yesterday?
Mia: The housekeeper made a mistake. I have no idea how this wound up in my bed.

[PV HOSPITAL]
[Adam remembers]
Adam's voice: Could business decisions that Liza made as early as October of 1999 been affected or caused by the tumor?
Dr. Greenberg: No. If she'd had a tumor that early without treatment, she wouldn't be alive today.

Doctor: Sorry to keep you waiting. My schedule today has really been --
Adam: Dr. Dacarlo. My name is Adam Chandler. My wife met with your partner recently. She was afraid her brain tumor might be returning.
Dr. Dacarlo: Yes, yes. I reviewed her case after the call. She was experiencing patient anxiety, nothing more.
Adam: Well, she doesn't want me to worry, so she wouldn't tell me what her symptoms where.
Dr. Dacarlo: Well, I assure you, Mr. Chandler, her -- her recovery -- she's enjoying an excellent recovery. The best thing for you to do is to treat her like the healthy woman she is. Excuse me.
Adam: But I just can't help worrying about her. She knows me pretty well. I need to know that I'm doing, well, everything that she needs me to do for her. Could you tell me what symptoms I should be looking out for?

Liza: Mia, you can have overnight guests.
Mia: You've opened up your home to me --
Liza: It's your home, too.
Mia: Allowed me to get close to your mom and your daughter.
Liza: Even Adam likes you, Mia.
Mia: Yeah.
Liza: It's no mean feat, you know.
Mia: I never meant to take advantage.
Liza: Mia, having a boyfriend isn't taking advantage. I didn't mean to embarrass you.
Mia: No, I'm not. I'm not embarrassed.
Liza: Well, you look like you're --
Mia: Look, can we just forget about it? Please?
Liza: Yeah. We'll just forget about it.
Mia: Thanks. I was on my out.
Liza: Ok, go ahead.
Mia: Have a good one. Don't work too hard.
Liza: You, too.

Dr. Dacarlo: Well, brain tumors present many symptoms.
Adam: What would be the most common?
Dr. Dacarlo: Well, some you're already familiar with -- the mood swings and the headaches. Others are seizures, confusion, vision problems, light flashes.
Adam: All right, all right. Thank you. Thank you very much, Dr. Dacarlo.
Dr. Dacarlo: That's all you want to know?
Adam: Well, you said you were a busy man. I know what it means to be pressured.
Dr. Dacarlo: Well, now, do you want me to go over this again with Mrs. Chandler?
Adam: No, no. I think we should just keep this conversation between us. My wife already believes I'm overly protective.
Dr. Dacarlo: Well, now, devotion is supposed to make a wife happy.
Adam: Well, my wife has different ideas. I don't want her pushing herself.
Dr. Dacarlo: Well, you're a very loving husband. Just try not to worry. Your wife's in excellent health.

Brooke: Of course not. I don't need Tad's permission to get married.
Zeke: You just asked him.
Brooke: Well, you know what he's going through right now.
Tad: Well, maybe the good doctor doesn't think that that's relevant to your psyche.
Brooke: Well, it is.
Tad: Careful. You're going to flash the sick truth of our relationship.
Zeke: Which is?
Tad: You will stay as single and lonely as I am. There. I said it. Hmm? Must be performance anxiety. Normally she kind of snaps to attention when I say it.
Zeke: You're defensive.
Tad: Oh, believe me, Edmund's already pointed out that little character defect.
Zeke: Defensiveness is a protective posture, not a character defect.
Tad: Well, there you go. Survival's kind of a hobby of mine.
Zeke: Is that what you're doing now?
Tad: Yeah, as a matter of fact, it is. In case you haven't heard, my wife died. And under the circumstances, I don't think there's anything wrong or co-dependent with wanting to reconnect with the mother of my son.
Zeke: Who is also your ex-wife.
Tad: So what's your point, that our divorce is some kind of protective posture?
Zeke: No, but it is a fact of your life.
Tad: Whoa, wait. Wait a minute. What -- what happened to "this is a good place to stop"?
Zeke: You keep bringing up issues, issues that have nothing to do with your son.
Tad: Oh, I see. And being the healer that you are, you're prepared to keep the meter running, is that it?
Brooke: Tad, he's just trying to help us.
Tad: Yeah, well, I got a house full of casseroles and dead flowers already.
Zeke: How do you really feel about Brooke getting married again?
Tad: Great.
Zeke: And?
Tad: No. No "and." That's it. "And" -- no. You know, I'm happy that she's happy, as long as, you know, she doesn't forget that Jamie and I have a --
Brooke: Come first?
Tad: No, I wasn't going to say that.
Brooke: Yes, you were.
Tad: No, I wasn't. What, you're going to beat up on me now, too?
Brooke: Do you even realize what I gave up for you?
Tad: A couple weeks of married bliss?
Brooke: Years. Years. Lonely, painful years. I loved Edmund, he loved me. But for you, for Jamie -- and now you want to come first again? No way. No way and no matter what, I am not making the same mistake twice.

Roger: I'm sorry, I have to run. Always a pleasure, Woody. Mary, we'll talk.
Mary: Right.
Woodruff: Good-bye, Roger.

Woodruff: What did you ever --
Mary: I divorced him, didn't I?
Woodruff: Are you two getting along?
Mary: We're going to give our daughter an engagement party. Woodruff: Oh.
Is Greenlee involved?
Mary: Of course she is. It's her funeral. Excuse me -- wedding. I'm doing everything I can to create a joyous family celebration here.
Woodruff: It would be nice if you were doing it because you wanted to.
Mary: Well, I'm doing it. Isn't that what counts?
Woodruff: Because I threatened to disinherit you. Seems you'll do the right thing only to keep your daughter from getting my estate.
Mary: And she will get it one day. But I am your rightful heir.
Woodruff: Mary, the world thinks I'm a very successful man, but you prove I am the worst kind of failure.

Leo: You?
Greenlee: Uh-huh.
Leo: You're going to -- you're going to make me take you with me to see the count?
Greenlee: Yes. What -- Leo, put me down!
Leo: Take on somebody your own size, Greenlee
Greenlee: What, are you going to tie me up?
Leo: Maybe later.
Greenlee: You going to lock me in the closet?
Leo: What the hell's gotten into you?
Greenlee: Love.
Leo: I can take care of myself. Come on.
Greenlee: Yeah, well, you don't have that killer instinct. You do remember Wolfe, right?
Leo: So the count keeps un petit Schwarzenegger --
Greenlee: Un grand! Who snacks on Americans.
Leo: Well, if you remember, the full moon must be over because the wolf man just called me requesting my presence.
Greenlee: At an ambush.
Leo: I'll be fine.
Greenlee: Because I'm coming with you.
Leo: No, you're not.
Greenlee, I will lock you into that closet if I have to.
Greenlee: Leo, don't underestimate me, ok? I have the goods to keep you safe.
Leo: You cannot flirt these types into submission.
Greenlee: Well, my considerable charm is not my weapon of choice today. My power is.
Leo: Oh, your power?
Greenlee: I am a top exec at a major multinational corporation, ok? If something happens to me --
Leo: It'll cause, what, an international incident? Is that it?
Greenlee: Yes.
Leo: I love you, too, Greenlee, but --
Greenlee: No, I'll bring my phone.
Leo: No, I'm sorry, but if anything were to happen to you, I'd have to cause an international incident myself.
Greenlee: Oh, well, then I can live with that.
Leo: No. Whatever.
Greenlee: No. I'm not going to let you face this guy alone!
[Greenlee opens the door to the hotel room and sees a man standing there]
Man: Mademoiselle Smythe?
Greenlee: Oui?
Man: Monsieur du Pres. I understand you have something you wish to ask me. I am Le Count du Pres.
Greenlee: Please, come in.
Count du Pres: Thank you.
Greenlee: We were just leaving for your chateau.
Count du Pres: Well, it would've been lovely for me to have shown you the view from my terrace.
Leo: So why are you here?
Count du Pres: What is that clever American expression -- "the house can hear voices"?
Greenlee: "The walls have ears."
Count du Pres: I am blessed with a very attentive staff.
Leo: And a secretary with a good right hook.
Count du Pres: Ah. My Wolfe -- he was terribly aggressive, huh?
Greenlee: Terribly.
Count du Pres: I apologize.
Leo: Buy him a leash.
Count du Pres: He has been with me for many years. His loyalty has deepened into a fierce protectiveness.
Leo: You need protection?
Count du Pres: Your name alarmed him.
Leo: It's the same as yours.
Count du Pres: Exactly. He was afraid you might make a false claim. It happens more often than you think. A man in my position, what can I say? Sometimes how you come into this world can be both a blessing and a curse.
Leo: Or you just get around a lot.
Count du Pres: That, too.
Greenlee: Ahem.
Leo: Uh -- did you know my mother? Vanessa Bennett?
Count du Pres: Ah, yes. What a very spirited woman.
Greenlee: I guess you could call her that.
Count du Pres: I remember my time with her very fondly.
Leo: Ok, I'm going to be crass --
Count du Pres: I like plain speaking.
Leo: Was my mother your mistress?
Count du Pres: Yes, your mother and I were lovers.
Leo: She -- she told me that she had a child with you. She said that you're my father. Well? Are you?

Woodruff: Thank you.
Mary: Daddy, this is pointless. I don't need a lecture right now.
Woodruff: I'm just stating facts. I stopped trying to reach you years ago.
Mary: I think that's called giving up.
Woodruff: You gave up on your mother and me long before we gave up on you.
Mary: Does mother know about your thinly veiled threats?
Woodruff: Oh, Mary, dear, there's nothing thinly veiled about them.
Mary: Greenlee was always very well cared for.
Woodruff: By a fleet of nannies, her mother too busy jet-setting to make her birthday parties.
Mary: All right. So she'll file my efforts under "too little, too late."
Woodruff: No, that's what you would do. Greenlee will open her heart to any sliver of love you offer.
Mary: Daddy, she's not a saint.
Woodruff: She's very forgiving, despite a selfish mother and a leech-like father.
Mary: Don't compare me to Roger.
Woodruff: Greenlee wants to believe in both of you.
Mary: And what if you're wrong? What if she spits in the face of her neglectful mother?
Woodruff: You'll need to look for work or find yourself a bankable husband.
Mary: You'd really do that to me?
Woodruff: I tried with you, Mary. I tried to help.
Mary: I don't need your help.
Woodruff: Only my money.
Mary: It's not yours, it's mother's.
Woodruff: It's ours, and completely in my control.
Mary: Well, I can't wait to see what mother has to say about all this.
Woodruff: If you say one word about this to her --
Mary: You'll what? Disinherit me twice?
Woodruff: I'll tell her just how her little princess entertained herself in Puerto Barrio. She'll force me to cut you out, no matter how much joy you finally give Greenlee.
Mary: You're unnatural.
Woodruff: Cry all the way to the bank, Mary. Just play the good mother and play it well.

[PV HOSPITAL - OUTSIDE OF ZEKE'S OFFICE]
Roger: Simone.
Simone: Hi.
Roger: Hi. Are you ok?
Simone: Oh, I'm fine.
Roger: Yes. Yes, you are.
Simone: Uh, how are you?
Roger: Oh, I'm managing.
Simone: I should go.
Roger: You're still wearing it, I see.
Simone: Oh, yeah. Well, I wasn't going to --
Roger: I'm touched you are. It's platinum, pure, like your heart.
Simone: If only.
Roger: I miss you.
Simone: Roger --
Roger: I wake up missing you, I go to sleep missing you. Sometimes in my dreams, we're still --
Simone: I know. I know. I miss you, too.

Tad: Wait a minute. Brooke, I am not asking you to put me first.
Brooke: Tad, I -- I don't know what came over me. I'm sorry.
Zeke: Why are you apologizing?
Brooke: Because I don't really think that this is the time to torture him with the past.
Tad: No, wait a minute. He's right. You're not torturing me. It's not the past, it's our relationship. And clearly you're angry.
Brooke: Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring up --
Tad: Well, I'm not. Just tell me. Is it -- was it the divorce?
Brooke: You gave me Jamie.
Tad: Yeah, and then I left you.
Brooke: I have my son.
Zeke: So you're willing to put up with anything?
Brooke: No, of course not.
Tad: Well, clearly, you've put up with me.
Brooke: Yes, I have, but that really doesn't matter now. Can I just write you a check?
Zeke: No. I'll bill you both at the end of the month.
Brooke: Ok.
Tad: Wait. Listen, I'm sorry about the way things happened, but you got to know that Dixie and I were meant to be together. I mean, no matter what happened before her death, she wasn't going to leave me.
Brooke: I'm glad that you have that.
Tad: Yeah, but I guess I -- I left you with less, didn't I?
Brooke: You didn't intend to, Tad.
Tad: Listen, I'm sorry.
Brooke: Look, I love you and I always will. Tad: Brooke --
Brooke: Thank you, all right? You really have been helping Jamie.
Tad: Brooke? Brooke?
[Door closes]

[PV HOSPITAL - OUTSIDE - THE HALLWAY/WAITING ROOM]
Mia: Sorry I'm late.
Jake: Careful, or you'll get in trouble with the chief of staff.
Mia: I wonder what that would be like.
Jake: Yeah? Want to find out?
Mia: Yeah.
Jake: Ok, but first -- actually, it's my responsibility to support your interest in physical excellence.
Mia: What a boss.
Jake: And I have to insist on visiting your pool again, right away.
Mia: Oh, Jake.
Jake: What?
Mia: We need to cool it.

Roger: How about coffee later, for old time's sake?
Simone: Yeah -- Roger, I just don't think it's a good idea.

Zeke: So we're still up for next week?
Tad: Yeah, I'll be here. Thanks.

Zeke: Mr. Smythe.
Roger: Yes.
Zeke: Come in. I'm ready to see you now.
Roger: I am, too.

Tad: Brooke -- sorry -- wait a minute.
Brooke: Tad, I'm -- look, I'm sorry. I really am. I don't -- I don't know what came over me in there.
Tad: Don't apologize. What happened in there was supposed to happen in there, ok? You're just getting in touch with some feelings, that's all.
Brooke: We're supposed to be in there helping our son. That's what the therapy was for.
Tad: And we are, ok? Let's just think of the other thing as sort of a bonus, ok?
Brooke: I know, but you're mourning Dixie, and I dug up --
Tad: The fact that I hurt you because of Dixie.
Brooke: You loved her.
Tad: Look, I'm pretty sure that I've hit bottom. I just want you to know if there is a moral center in here somewhere --
Brooke: There is.
Tad: Then I am happy that you found Edmund, that you have one another, that you love one another. And I know that "sorry" doesn't --
[Tad hugs Brooke]
[Edmund sees them as he exits the elevator]

Jake: All right, so what do you mean, "cool it"? We were just heating up.
Mia: Uh, Liza is still recovering right now.
Jake: So?
Mia: Us being together might --
Jake: Will make her happy.
Mia: No, it might unnerve her.
Jake: That's what you think?
Mia: It's what I'm afraid of.
Jake: No, no, no, no. It's what Adam told you.

Adam: You haven't left yet?
Liza: Are you trying to get rid of me?
Adam: I assumed you'd be on the hunt for increased profit margins.
Liza: Well, they'll be there when I get in.
Adam: I'm sure they will.
Liza: So is everything ok with the legal department?
Adam: Why do you ask?
Liza: You said that you were meeting with your lawyers.
Adam: Oh, no, no. No, darling. I said I was meeting with our accountants.

Leo: Are you going to answer my question? Should I ask -- should I ask him in French?
Count du Pres: When did your mother tell you that I'm your father?
Leo: When I was a child.
Count du Pres: Vanessa said that she was my mistress?
Leo: She said that my dad was titled, had money and a family.
Count du Pres: All true about me.
Leo: And as I grew older, the details --
Count du Pres: May I ask what --
Leo: She -- your generous offer -- abortion or abandonment. She wanted to keep me, so she left you.
Count du Pres: You must be very angry.
Leo: I saw you once at a ski resort. You were -- you were having ice cream with one of your kids. You kept your sunglasses right here [Leo gestures to the front of his shirt] and I still do that. I was going to call out to you, but I -- my voice wouldn't work. So I -- I didn't say anything. I just watched you walk away. That was -- that's all I remember, you know? But, hey, you know, it's something, right? It's a cool way to carry sunglasses, right?
Count du Pres: Leo, you presume I wouldn't acknowledge you.
Leo: Look, I didn't come here to lay a guilt trip on you, all right?
Count du Pres: You believe I'm your father?
Leo: Just forget it. I'm sure your legal team advised you to deny everything.
Count du Pres: I don't know.
Greenlee: Don't know what?
Count du Pres: Leo, I would like to tell you what you clearly need to know, but the truth is I have no idea if you're my son or not.
Leo: I thought that you just said that my mother was your mistress.
Count du Pres: Yes.
Leo: So how the hell could you not know whether or not I'm your kid?
Count du Pres: The story Vanessa told you about my insisting on an abortion.
Greenlee: What about it?
Count du Pres: It's not true.
Greenlee: I told you.
Leo: So you -- what, you offered her money? You wanted to put me up for adoption? What?
Count du Pres: No.
Leo: Well, I know that you didn't offer to marry her.
Greenlee: Vanessa would've taken you up on that.
Count du Pres: She never told me that she was -- how you say -- expecting.
Leo: What?
Count du Pres: I'm sorry, Leo. Your mother never acknowledged you to me. Until last night, I did not even know that you existed.

Mary: Why now, Daddy? You've always realized my limitations as a mother.
Woodruff: Apparently, hope springs for a very long time, but not quite eternal.
Mary: So I've missed my chance for redemption?
Woodruff: I'm afraid so.
Mary: Well, I guess Greenlee doesn't get her forgiving nature from you, either.
Woodruff: Maybe if I hadn't indulged you so much, maybe if I had taken you over my knee --
Mary: And you accuse me of being a bad parent?
Woodruff: Oh, turn off the waterworks, Mary. They stopped working on me a decade ago.
Mary: You never tried to love me. You never tried to understand me. Never.
Woodruff: I tried for too long.
Mary: No, you only tried with Greenlee.
Woodruff: No. Greenlee is the only one who ever tried back.
Mary: And now you're pushing me aside for her.
Woodruff: I don't want to, Mary. But I'm prepared to cut my losses. Think about it, dear.
Mary: So you're going to punish me by giving our darling Greenlee a breathtaking wedding present -- my inheritance. Well, I don't think so. I don't think so.

Jake: Don't listen to Adam.
Mia: I'm a guest in his home, Jake.
Jake: He's Liza's wannabe commander in chief. He's not yours, too.
Mia: But he's been so generous to me, you know? Letting me get close to Colby and everything.
Jake: Mia, that makes him lucky.
Mia: Well, I don't know. Maybe Adam does get carried away a little bit.
Jake: Yeah, he's pathological.
Mia: But he's desperate for Liza to make a complete recovery.
Jake: And having a sister who's a nun helps that by?
Mia: Well, if Liza thought I lived like a nun, she certainly doesn't think that anymore. The maid found this in my bed.
Jake: Oops.
Mia: Well, at least you have your set back. Did your dad give that to you?
Jake: Uh, it's not mine.
Mia: What?
Jake: No, no. I left the hospital, went straight to your house, and I don't wear cufflinks when I work. And I sure as hell don't wear cufflinks when I'm in bed.
Mia: Well, then whose is it?

Adam: Darling, don't worry about it. It's a perfectly understandable mistake.
Liza: No, Adam. "Accountant" doesn't sound anything like "lawyer."
Adam: I probably said "attorney."
[The lights in the room blink]
Liza: What was that?
Adam: What was what? Liza: Adam, the lights
flickered. Did -- did you not see the lights flicker?
Adam: Yes. Yes, I did.

Brooke: Hi.
Tad: Hey.
Edmund: How's it going?
Tad: Still standing.
Brooke: Yeah.
Edmund: That's saying a lot.
Tad: Listen, I'm going to give you two some one-on-one time. Brooke: Ok. Talk to you.

Edmund: How'd the session go?
Brooke: It was intense.
Edmund: Dixie's death is hitting Tad real hard, huh?
Brooke: A lot of things are hitting Tad really hard right now.
Edmund: Did it help having the session, just you two and Jamie?
Brooke: Yes.
Edmund: Yeah?
Brooke: Yeah, it was great for Jamie. It was -- it was hard on Tad and me.
Edmund: The past has some rough terrain.
Brooke: The good thing is I think that we are finally learning from it.
Edmund: Well, good. Then there's good news on all fronts.
Brooke: Did you find a -- did you find a donor for Enzo?
Edmund: A match. Yes. The internet database. A hospital worker in the southwest. I'm going to fly out and try to find her right now.
Brooke: Oh, my God.
Edmund: Yeah.
Brooke: What about Sam and Maddie and Mateo? I mean, don't they --
Edmund: It's pretty urgent with Enzo, you know.
Brooke: Well, I can fly out and find the donor.
Edmund: What about Jamie?
Brooke: Jamie actually asked to go camping with Simon's family.
Edmund: Really?
Brooke: Yes. Yeah.
Edmund: That's amazing.
Brooke: Progress, don't you think?
Edmund: Yeah, it's --
Brooke: I know, I'm just --
Edmund: You're too relieved to be happy?
Brooke: Yes. You know everything.
Edmund: I try.
Brooke: Oh, this is wonderful.
Edmund: I try.
Brooke: Yeah.
Edmund: Listen, are you sure you're up for going cross-country right now?
Brooke: Why not? You know, I mean, if any of the eight million things that I'm going to worry about while I'm gone happen at willow lake, then Jamie can call you.
Edmund: Well, I'm very flattered that you would include me, but why wouldn't he just call Tad?
Brooke: About that -- um, I have one favor to ask.
Edmund: Ok. Name it.
Brooke: I think that Tad has been spending a lot of time -- understandably so, but not good for him -- inside his own head.
Edmund: That can be a dangerous place sometimes.
Brooke: Yes. And he used to be, you know, an excellent private investigator. And I think it would help me tremendously and I think it would do him a world of good --
Edmund: To go with you?
Brooke: Yeah. What do you think?
Edmund: I think that if this family is ever going to be truly happy, everybody has to be well.
Brooke: You are the most loving, giving, wonderful person.
Edmund: Yeah, yeah, yeah. My fiancée keeps raising the generosity bar. Listen, I've been a little distracted lately. You know, I hope you know how much I love you.
Brooke: Oh, Edmund. Your love is the one thing that I never, ever worry about, ever.
Edmund: Listen, you call me as soon as you know something, ok?
Brooke: Yes, I will. I promise.

ON THE NEXT - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

David: I'm not babysitting your interns.
Jake: Resign and you won't have to.

Anna: I am going to resort to something that I don't normally do -- begging.

Adam: I'm worried about Liza's mental health, Mia.

Leo: Did I just meet my father or some stranger?
