ALL MY CHILDREN

JUNE 21, 2002

PREVIOUSLY ON - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

David: Listen, I got to leave town.
Anna: Where are you going? How long are you going for?
David: Well, I can't get into that right now. It's a medical emergency.

Liza: What was that?
Adam: What was what?

Mia: Adam is good to me.
Jake: He is using you.

Edmund: It seems our donor has disappeared.

Ryan: Will you marry me?

TODAY'S - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Mia: Tasha, is Ms. Enright still here?
Tasha: Oh, no. She's gone for the night.
Mia: Ok. Would you make sure that she gets this, and tell her that I'm really very sorry.
Jake: Sorry for what? So, quitting, huh?
Mia: Jake, I was going to call you.
Jake: Oh, but finding out this way is much more impersonal.
Mia: Look, I really think that this is for the best.
Jake: For you or for Adam?
Mia: Damn it, Jake. Do you think Adam's got his hand in everything?

Adam: Here you go, Liza. Just take one of these.
Liza: Thank you.
Adam: I really wish you'd rethink going out tonight, sweetheart. You should be in bed resting. Liza: I have a headache. I'm not an invalid.
Adam: I can't help worrying.
Liza: You know, I told your brother I was going to go. I'm not letting your brother down.
Adam: Oh, he always gets such a huge turnout for his day of compassion, and Hayward will probably be there.
Liza: So what?
Adam: Well, honey, it's -- could be troublesome.
Liza: Why? I mean, you think he's going to have a repeat of what he did at Dixie's memorial, he's going to make a scene or something?
Adam: I -- well, I mean, it's not just Hayward. It's -- well, you encountered him this afternoon. You got so -- well, forgive me. It's not your fault. I shouldn't have brought it up.
Liza: No, no, no. No, no. You aren't worried that David is going to ruin this evening. You're worried that I will.

Bianca: Hey, Chris.
Chris: Hi.
Bianca: Where's mom?
Chris: She went upstairs to lie down. She's got a headache.
Bianca: Oh, that's too bad. We were just going to have dinner.
Chris: Yeah, I know, and she told me to tell you that she's sorry and she'll call you later on.
Bianca: All right.
Chris: But look, since you're here, why don't you sit down and join me?
Bianca: Oh, sure.
Chris: Thank you. There's a couple of things that I want to run by you, Bianca. It's about the night of the fire.

Aidan: Look, Anna, we can try this another time.
Anna: You think I've lost the will to live just because my husband's walked out without telling me where he's going?
Aidan: Well, it seems to me it's common courtesy.
Anna: Yeah. I've come to expect the unexpected, and his rudeness is -- damn it! I mean, tonight, of all nights.

Stuart: Hello, Cindy. I haven't forgotten you, and I never will.
Marian: Darling --
Stuart: Oh, hello.
Marian: You always remember what's important, Stuart. I'm the one that forgets.
Stuart: What'd you forget?
Marian: To never take you for granted in this lifetime or any other lifetime.
Stuart: Oh.
Marian: I love you.
Stuart: Oh.

Hayley: Oh, hey, hey.
Brooke: Oh, hi, hi.
Hayley: Hi. How are you? Brooke: Oh, I'm so glad that you made it.
Hayley: Oh, well, don't be surprised. This is -- this night is very important to us for a lot of reasons.
Brooke: I just want you both to know that tad and I are going to find that woman who matches Enzo's donor profile, whatever it takes.

Kendall: Ryan, things like this don't happen to me. Guys like you don't happen.
Ryan: Yeah, well, lucky for me, I did happen.
Kendall: I have made so many promises in my life, never really meaning to keep any of them. But on this ring, I swear to you, I will never, ever hurt you. I will never make you sorry that you married me.

Chris: Bianca, I need you to think. I need you to think real hard. The night of the fire, when and where was the first time you saw Kendall?
Bianca: Whoa, Chris, do we have to get into all this? I mean, Kendall's life as an arsonist is kind of a downer.
Chris: Bianca, your mother hasn't been sleeping well lately. She's getting herself all worked up about Kendall's trial -- what's going to wrong, worst case scenarios --
Bianca: Like what?
Chris: Like what if Kendall, who always seems to land on her feet like a cat, beats the arson charge?
Bianca: Well, she won't. I mean, the evidence against her --
Chris: Bianca, evidence -- evidence creates doubt.
Bianca: Look, my Uncle Jack is not going to let Kendall wiggle her way through some legal loophole.
Chris: The truth is, Bianca, you never know how a trial is going to play itself out, so we have to be ready to shoot down anything Kendall's lawyers offers up in her dense.
Bianca: And I come in where, exactly?
Chris: We need to make sure that your testimony is airtight so Kendall doesn't slip through a crack or a loophole.

Aidan: What, did David forget your anniversary or birthday?
Anna: No. Thank you. Today is the Day of Compassion. Have you heard about that?
Aidan: "Compassion"? Not in the middle east.
Anna: Well, it's a day set aside to remember all the people that have died from AIDS and to support those people living with HIV.
Aidan: I see.
Anna: I told you about my daughter, right, Robin?
Aidan: The medical student.
Anna: Yeah. Well, she's working to find a cure. Robin is HIV positive. Her boyfriend, Stone, died from AIDS. Anyway, there's -- there's a ceremony tonight at the hospital.
Aidan: And dear Davey blew it off for his mystery trip. What a prince.
Anna: Aidan, you know, it's not helping, you hating David.
Aidan: And there's a lot there to hate, but I'm going to keep myself in check. Look, Anna, would it help if I went with you? You could tell me about my cousin Robin on the way.
Anna: Yeah, I'd really like that. Thank you.
Aidan: Then we're on. And that gives me a chance to tell you about my aunt and uncle. It's too bad you never met them.
Anna: They sound solid.
Aidan: They were. And you're what Aunt Tess and bill called a bit of all right.

Adam: You see, even mentioning the word "Hayward" gets you all riled up.
Liza: I have a right to be riled up. He engineered this contract with Chandler Enterprises when I was in very bad shape.
Adam: All right, but that was business. You can't let him undermine your recovery.
Liza: My recovery-- he used my illness to create this partnership with Chandler's, and now if I do anything, I'm the one who looks like I can't function!
Adam: I didn't say that.
Liza: No, you're saying that I'm trapped. You're saying that the company is trapped.
Adam: No, I'm saying that the agreement is legal and binding, but -- so work with him, but don't tear yourself up. What choice do you have, sweetheart?
Liza: What choice do I have? I can make his life a living hell so he rethinks this partnership.
Adam: All right. All right. You make Hayward's life a living hell for a few weeks, and what happens to you? More stress? More headaches? Less quality time with me and Colby? He's not worth the aggravation, sweetheart. I know you know that.
Liza: Well, you're a businessman. What do you do? I mean, do you just give up? Do you just let David do as he pleases?
Adam: You have to choose your battles.
Liza: "Choose your battles--" excuse me, but you're the one who said that the contract was binding, that I had to deal with David in my face. I don't have a choice.
Adam: If you go back to work. No -- never mind.
Liza: What? What?
Adam: If you're going back to work, I'm not going to let you make yourself sick over this. Mia and I have both discussed how all of the strain that you've been --
Liza: Whoa, whoa, wait a minute. You and Mia are discussing me behind my back?
Liza: I'm sorry. I guess I wasn't fair.
Adam: Mia and I love you very much, sweetheart.
Liza: I know that. I know that it's natural that the two of you should talk. It's just -- it's just that I want to feel normal again. You know, I want to be able to take my body for granted. I don't want to question every twinge. And like you said the other night, that you wanted to have the old Liza back -- well, I want that, too, and I'm not there yet. And I want that for you and for Mia and Colby.
Adam: You'll get there. You will.
Liza: It's just hard. It's a struggle. And when you imply that I'm not handling myself well, I --
Adam: See, that's -- you know, let's just put this away for now. This has been one bear of a day. First, little Enzo's problems and then right on the heels of your crisis, and remembering all the loved ones we've lost just reminds us of how fragile life really is.
Liza: I know, I -- I really don't want to spend any more time fighting. I mean, you've been so steady during all of this. You've been so kind and so gracious and so loving, and I can't even begin to tell you how grateful I am.
Adam: I think it's times like these that we begin to realize just how much a marriage can withstand.

Jake: Mia, the job was a perfect fit until Adam sucked you into his orbit.
Mia: Just forget about Adam. Jake: I saw you with him at the Valley Inn.
Mia: So what? So what? I don't want to have this fight again.
Jake: Well, neither do I. I'm trying to understand this hold that Adam has on you, making you give up your job.
Mia: Look, this was completely my decision.
Jake: Oh, so Adam didn't guilt you into it?
Mia: Of course not.
Jake: Ok. But if it was your idea to resign, why didn't you just come to me?
Mia: Look, you were so swamped, and I know how you hate paperwork.
Jake: No, I think you were scared that I would try to talk you out of quitting and that would mean you crossing Adam.
Mia: Oh, you're so way off.
Jake: No, I think I'm right on, Mia. You're even starting to act like him. You're sneaking around, you're placating people who care about you with half-truths.
Mia: Is this what happened with you and Greenlee?
Jake: What?
Mia: This ground rule, whatever -- when you're with a woman, you have some "no compete" clause? I think you hate the fact that I have a man as a friend.
Jake: Adam has accomplices, cohorts, conspirators, but no friends.
Mia: Which shows you how little you think of me.
Jake: I think the world of you.
Mia: Oh, really? Well, you don't show it. You know, it's not enough that I care about you. I have to hate Adam, too? Well, forget it. Just forget it. I happen to love the man. I happen to love a man who cares so much about his family, and that family's in a lot of trouble. It's not just Liza. It's Enzo and J.R., and I would much rather be helping them than here treating someone with whiplash or some stupid slipped disk.

Marian: You know what's so amazing about you, Stuart?
Stuart: Me?
Marian: Yes.
Stuart: Nothing.
Marian: No, while all the rest of us try to be good and do the right thing, you know in your heart without question what's right and you have so much love to give.
Stuart: Well, loving is easy.
Marian: But being loved by you has changed my life.
Whenever I get lost or I feel I can't find my way back, I just look at you and try to see what you see -- all the good things.
Stuart: When I look at you, what I see is the most beautiful woman in the world.
Marian: Stuart, when I was so scared for Liza and I behaved so badly, you know, you never scolded me or judged me. You just simply loved me, and that made all the difference. You are the dearest, kindest man who's ever lived, and I thank God every single day for bringing you into my life.
Stuart: Oh.
Marian: The world is just a better place with you in it, Mr. Stuart Chandler.

Stuart: Oh, look who here. Oh, Hayley and Mateo --
Hayley: Where else would we be?
Marian: Hi.
Stuart: Well, we thought with Enzo --
Hayley: This is where Enzo needs us to be tonight.
Marian: You're sure that's all right, darling?
Hayley: Absolutely. Absolutely. I mean, Marian, if you only show up when it's good for you, then it's convenience, not compassion.

Kendall: I didn't think there was anyone out there for me. Certainly no one like you.
Ryan: I was a dead man walking. The guy who burst into your motel room because your music was blasting, remember that? It was a jerk. That guy was mad because he didn't know how to deal with the fact he had no reason to wake up in the morning. And I've told you this before -- you were my wake-up call. And now that I'm wide awake and I'm in love and I'm generally feeling fine, I'd like to show you off, so where would you le to go?
Kendall: There is someplace, but you can't go with me.
Ryan: Whoa, whoa, whoa. What?
Ryan: We're engaged, and you want to celebrate solo?
Kendall: Ryan, humor me, ok?
Ryan: Well, you're not running away again?
Kendall: Listen, just go back to the Pine Cone and wait for me. This is only going to take a few minutes, but there's something that I have to do.
Ryan: Something that doesn't involve me.
Kendall: It's totally about you, ok? Just it -- it's a kind of present.
Ryan: Ah, well, you see, you're all I want, so --
Kendall: Ryan, please. Please, you've done so much for me. Just let me do something for you.
Ryan: Are you giving me a ring?
Kendall: If I could, I would give you the moon. Or at the very least, a trip there and back. I love you.

Mia: Forget it, Jake.
Jake: Mia, wait. I'm not going to forget it. Adam's using you.
Mia: Oh, please. If anything, I'm using him. He has opened up a whole new world to me.
Jake: His world. It's full of tricks and corruption, deception.
Mia: The only one who wants what they want here is you. You want me working here in this hospital where you can keep an eye on me and control me.
Jake: That's what you think I'm all about?
Mia: Stop it, Jake, ok?
Jake: No, really.
Mia: Don't wreck this for my family. Adam and Stuart worked so hard for this.
Jake: You know, Adam didn't have anything to do with it.
Mia: You know what? Talking to you is a waste.

Liza: Lovers' quarrel?
Adam: Mia doesn't have -- she's not involved with that smug-faced know-it-all.
Liza: Well, you don't know that. I mean, I think my sister protests too much.
Adam: Oh, no. Mia has more sense.
Liza: Oh, so did I, but then I fell in love with you. Maybe Stuart's thoughts on love will work their magic on Mia and Jake.
Stuart: Well, welcome to everybody. I'm very happy to see you all here. I know how busy you all are with your jobs and your families and how difficult it is to find time to think about someone else, let alone care about them, to look out instead of in and to -- to find compassion there. But you all made time for that tonight. Thank you. If there's anybody here who would like to share their thoughts with us about maybe a loved one that they've lost or maybe a hero that has inspired you in some way in your life, don't be shy. Come on up.
Hayley: I'll go first, Uncle Stuart.
Mateo: Hey. Hey. You sure?
[Applause]
Hayley: Well, when you're sick or when you love someone who's ill, the world can be a scary place and sometimes very lonely.
[Baby fusses]

[Music plays]
Ryan: That should put her in the mood!
Ryan: Now, Kendall, what are you up to?

Bianca: And that is everything I remember from that night.
Chris: Ok, so the first time you saw Kendall that night was outside the house after the firefighters had arrived?
Bianca: Yes.
Chris: You're absolutely sure about that?
Bianca: Yes. Chris, come on. I mean, that night is burned into my brain.
Chris: All right, after you went up the stairs, before you opened the door to your bedroom, you didn't see anyone, you didn't hear anyone call your name?
Bianca: Did I see Kendall trying to save my life? No. Kendall was no longer in the house, but that doesn't mean that she didn't set the fire.
Chris: I agree. I -- Bianca, I just want to make sure that we have our facts in order so the state can prove our case in court -- bottom line.
Bianca: All right, well, I will not lie to send Kendall to prison. Of course, if the situation were reversed, you know that she would turn on me in a heartbeat. I will take that stand and put my hand on the bible and lie that I saw my sister set that fire.
Chris: Bianca, I would never ask you to perjure yourself in court.
Bianca: It doesn't matter. I wouldn't. But lying under oath is my sister's best event.
Chris: We've had the facts on our side.
Bianca: Yeah, well, let's just hope that that's enough to put Kendall away.
Chris: What?
Bianca: I was just thinking, when I was younger, I hated Kendall. I mean, most girls idolize their sisters.
Chris: But you didn't?
Bianca: Nope. Kendall disrupted my perfect world order, which was grounds for not liking her.
Chris: You just said you hated her.
Bianca: Yeah, well, not like mom did, not from the start. In fact, I never really got where that came from, why mom's aversion to Kendall is so extreme.
Chris: But you understand now?
Bianca: Yeah. I mean, all the fallout from the fire, Frankie's things and all this stuff that mom saved from my school -- my ceramic handprint and my pictures of dad and me at the beach in Hilton Head -- all that, and it just went up in smoke. I mean, things that meant Something to me or to mom -- they're just gone. So it doesn't matter that Kendall is my sister, because Kendall is a destroyer. She does a number on everything and everyone in her path.

[Music plays]
Ryan: Ok. Kendall, where in the hell are you?

Ryan's voice: You think Erica?
Kendall's voice: No, no, not Erica. Bianca.
Ryan: You think Bianca set the fire?
Kendall: Yeah. Ryan, listen. She's warm, she's wise, she's wonderful, so everyone totally forgets the demon child that had Erica wrapped around her bony little finger.
Ryan: Bianca. Demon child?
Kendall: It was her. Bianca set that fire, and they're all ganging up to make me pay for it.

Hayley: It never bothers me when a healthy child cries. It's sort of the -- it's the sound that you close your eyes and you pray to hear when they're first born, you know? Sort of like, "hey, world, look at -- look at me. Here I am. Your life is never going to be the same, forever." And our lives changed. And when our baby got sick and our lives changed again forever, we felt like helpless newborns. Our son, Lorenzo, is very sick. He has a liver malfunctioning, and he needs a new one to survive. And that's when all the real miracles in our lives started happening. We were suddenly exposed to the most amazing and generous people. Yeah. People like this woman who watches my show who I've never met before, but she went and had herself tested to see if maybe she had a compatible liver for my boy. And then there's this lovely gay couple in Florida, and they take in all these babies who have AIDS, babies the rest of the world had forgotten about and written off, and they shared with me some really powerful stories of encouragement and kindness. And so sometimes, you know, people look at the world right now in this state and they think that maybe our world has lost its soul. But I don't think that. I think that we all have the power to heal ourselves. You know, it starts with us. It starts with love. It starts with our children. And so, just pray for them. Pray for my son and all the miracles that I know are out there. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Mateo: It's ok.

Anna: You know, HIV didn't open a door for my daughter. It pushed her through one full force against her will into a terrifying abyss, I suppose. But Robin has always been a fighter, and she is waging a personal war against AIDS, and she's ferocious, single minded, determined, dauntless, and she's becoming a doctor, certainly someone that you will want to have on your side. It's human nature, really, to focus on fresh disasters, bigger headlines. And maybe some people think that this epidemic is over and that our children are safe and out of harm's way. Well, that complacency is the single most dangerous thing for their future. Information and education is still the most powerful lifeline for them. And facing our own fears is the way to conquer them. Safe sex, abstinence, urgent life-saving messages -- send them over homework, over breakfast, in the car -- I don't know -- at lights out, whenever, because it's your job. And no one else can do that.

Stuart: There's a lot of love in this room tonight. We've learned an amazing lesson this past year. We've learned that good things can come from bad things and that strangers can help strangers and that heroes are stronger than hate. And all over the world we're being reminded that we were put on this earth to love each other. Compassion is stronger than hate. Compassion can help and it can heal. This is my wife Cindy, who died of AIDS. The disease took her body, but it never, never touched her spirit. And she opened her heart up to make room for me and my son, Scott. I'd like to close the service with a moment of silence in honor of those people who we've loved and lost, but are still alive in our hearts.
Stuart: Thank you, and God bless you.
Marian: It was beautiful, a beautiful service.
Hayley: All that talk about miracles --
Marian: We're going to get ours. I can feel it. Ok?

Joe: Hayley, Mateo, you have to come with me, now.
Mateo: What's up?

Mia: So I wasn't sure what to expect, but this all really got to me.
Liza: You know, if you hurry, you can catch Jake.
Mia: Why would I want to do that?
Liza: Well, you guys could get a bite to eat together.
Mia: All I want to do is go home and hug Colby. By the way, I did the AIDS walk. I didn't know you made that pledge.
Adam: Oh, it's the way I wanted it.
Mia: It's incredibly generous. You know, you married a very classy guy.

Chris: I'm not going to let her destroy Ryan. I'm just hoping that this trial will help Ryan see Kendall for who she really is.
Bianca: Well, she's all about herself.
Chris: Yeah, but, still, I can't help but feel something for her.
Bianca: Mistrust, maybe.
Chris: Yeah, that, but there's something else.
Bianca, Ryan just -- he's her good. Now, can love be so clueless, or am I missing something here? Help me here.
Bianca: Chris, I just think that you just have a gigantic soft spot for family.
Chris: Yeah, well, I don't want you letting that get out.
Bianca: And ruin your tough-guy image? Never.
Chris: Hey, you want another piece of apple pie?
Bianca: No, that's all right. I got to fit into my prom dress. In fact, I'd better go. Please tell mom that I hope she feels better.
Chris: I'll do that. You're a good apple, kid. And if I've got to be a family man, I'm glad you're part of that package.
Bianca: Oh. Thank you.
Chris: Come on. I'll walk you out.
Bianca: Ok.

Kendall: Trey, wherever the hell you are, just get your butt back here. I just heard Bianca say that she's going to lie on the stand and say that she saw me set the fire, the freaking little liar. Just call me as soon as you get this message. There's no way. There's no way in hell they're getting away with this.

Adam: Well, who's up for a nightcap? Mia?
Mia: No, thanks. I think I'm going to go check on Colby. You know how she falls asleep sideways with her head hanging off the side of the bed.
Adam: Yeah.
Liza: I'll have a glass of something.
Adam: You think you should? All right. Just a little one.

Liza: Listen, before you go, can I do a little meddling?
Mia: Liza, if this is about Jake -- he's a great guy and we work together and sometimes we hang out a little.
Liza: That's it?
Mia: Yeah, that's it.
Liza: So it's just the "we're just friends" bit?
Mia: I'm a walking cliché. Good night.
Liza: Well, wait a second. Is it just really a friend who leaves a cufflink in your bed?
Mia: Liza, I told you, that wasn't Jake's.
Liza: Well, men's cufflinks don't just appear out of nowhere.
Mia: Look, I don't know how it got in my bed, ok? Can we just drop it, please?
Liza: Ok. You want to be a woman of mystery, that's fine.
Mia: Good night, Liza.

Liza: Are you looking for spare change?
Adam: Oh, no. I lost one of my best cufflinks the other day. I'll be damned if I can find it.

Ryan: Ok, you're going to cut Kendall a little break here. Cut her a break. She's not going to do anything crazy. She's not.

Chris: Well, Ms. Kane is sold on you, which means she wants you on this job.
Aidan: Ms. Kane seems to know what she wants.
Chris: And it's part of my job to look after her, so before I actually hire you, I'm going to have to run a security check -- extensive.
Aidan: What, to lay sheetrock?
Chris: Look, security is a major concern of ours, and the first leg of this job is running telephone lines from her office up into the penthouse.
Aidan: So?
Chris: So -- so anybody who has access to those lines, they're going to be privy every detail in Ms. Kane's life, personal and private, and that goes for her daughter Bianca, too.
Aidan: Hmm, hmm, yeah. You can poke around all you like, but I got nothing to hide.
Chris: Well, that's good because I am going to poke around.
Aidan: Thank you.
Chris: I'll give you a call tomorrow.
Aidan: Right.

Anna: What? No. It's fine. I'll handle it myself. Thank you. Kovac? Hi. It's the chief. I want you to put out an APV for me. Hayward. Dr. David Hayward.

Joe: Here we are. Hayley: Oh, Joe, what is it? What's wrong?
Joe: There's nothing wrong. We found a match for Enzo.
Mateo: What?
Joe: Yes. We've got a match.
Hayley: A blood match. It doesn't mean anything. It doesn't mean there's liver compatibility.
Joe: No, Hayley, Hayley, I know how devastated you were when it didn't work out with Arlene, so I'm going to make sure I didn't get your hopes up again just to dash them again.
Jake: Wait, wait, wait. What exactly are you saying?
Joe: We've run the tests on the donor already. The liver's a perfect match it's a go.
Hayley: Oh, my God. Oh, Joe, is this for real?
Joe: It's for real. We're going to schedule the operation as soon as the donor gets here.
Hayley: Oh, God, you knew. You were right. He's going to make it. Enzo's going to live.

ON THE NEXT - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Liza: You think I wouldn't find out!
Mia: I -- I --
Liza: You came into my home and you played me!

Kendall: Please, Anna, I'm fighting for my life. I need your help.

Edmund: She's going to do a radical medical procedure for a complete stranger? I can't wait to meet this woman.
