ALL MY CHILDREN

MAY 16, 2002

PREVIOUSLY ON - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Roger: I think your mother and I may get back together.
Greenlee: Daddy, that's fantastic!

Tad: "Look inside for a preview of what's to come."

Chris: Bianca, can you hear me? You hang on. I'm going to get you out of here.

Erica: What are you doing? This is the answer to all of your sick prayers, isn't it -- destroy me and everyone I love!

TODAY’S - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

[Chris and Bianca in Erica’s burning house]
Chris: Hold on. Hold on to me.
[Bianca coughs]

[Outside of the burning house]
Erica: Oh, my God! Bianca and Chris -- they're still trapped in the house!
Kendall: Erica, the house is still standing. Chris will get her out. He will. No -- no, you can't go in there.
Erica: Let go of me!
Kendall: No! No!
Erica: Let go of me!
Kendall: No, you're not going in there. Erica, no!

[Dixie’s room in Switzerland]
Brooke: We packed up Dixie's things. There's nothing left to do.
Tad: Except say good-bye? That I won't do. Not while there's still a chance.
Brooke: You talked to the Swiss police. You saw the -- you saw where Dixie's car went over.
Tad: I didn't see Dixie. I don't care what the police said. Part of me still expects her to walk through that door.
Brooke: I understand, believe me, about not wanting to let go. I just don't think that you should hold on to false hope.
Tad: Why? Give me one good reason.
Brooke: I'll give you two -- JR and Jamie, your sons.

[Brooke’s house –Edmund is trying to play checkers with Jamie]
Edmund: It's your move, Jamie. Edmund
: You thinking about Dixie? I miss her, too. She was real special. You know, sometimes it helps to talk about what you're thinking.
[Jamie pushes the checkers off the board and runs upstairs]
Edmund: That went well.
Opal: Maybe he just needs a good cry. I'll go check on him. You know, Edmund, maybe you want to just head on home and leave this to family.
Edmund: Opal, I am family, and I am not walking out on Jamie.

[Greenlee’s loft]
Leo: Well, you definitely hit a new low on the old sleaze-o-meter, Roger, you know that?
Roger: Hand it over.
Leo: Forget it. So who's the other babe on your gift list, huh? Come on, who is it?
Roger: The store made a mistake, that's all.
Leo: Oh, yeah -- oh, no, the only mistake that was made was you telling Greenlee that there was a chance that you and her mother were going to get back together. What, you got another piece on the side, is that what this is?
Greenlee: Leo, who's out there?
Leo: You tell me who it is. You tell me who she is, or I’m going to tell Greenlee what a dirty old horn dog her father is.

Kendall: No, no --
[Erica and Kendall yell]
Ryan: Hey, hey, hey, hey! Come on, Erica, Erica, it's all right. It's ok.
Erica: Ryan!
Ryan: What happened?
Erica: If it hadn't been for Kendall, your father and my daughter would still be alive!
[Sirens]

Roger: Leo, please don't embarrass me in front of Greenlee.
Leo: "Oh, Leo, please don't embarrass me in front of --" shut up. Who is it?
Roger: I bought you and Greenlee a pair of silver candlesticks.
Leo: Well, yeah, for -- you mean, and your girlfriend got them instead. Is that what you're saying?
Roger: That doesn't matter. Why are you making such a case out of this?
Leo: Because I am tired of losers like you and Vanessa treating Greenlee like she's less than nothing, that's why.
Roger: You know what? You are turning this into something twisted here.
Leo: No, you made a life of breaking your daughter's heart, Roger. And for whatever reason, she keeps letting you do it, but I’m not going to let you do it anymore.
Roger: My daughter has a forgiving nature, that's all.
Leo: Well, I don't. I don't. You know that she's got this fantasy -- yeah, she's got this cute, little g-rated fantasy about you and her mother holding hands, sitting on the same side of the church, beaming at her as she's walking down the aisle. And you encouraged that fantasy when you told her there's a chance that you and -- and --
Roger: Mary. Mary.
Leo: Mary were going to get back together. Now, how could that be when you're already cheating on her, huh?
Roger: You know what? You tell Greenlee this, she'll start sinking again.
Leo: No, I’m not going to take the hit for this again, Roger.
Roger: Greenlee will be the one who's disappointed. You want that on your conscience again, Leo?

Greenlee: Daddy. Leo, why didn't you tell me -- who's idea of a hot dream is that?
[Greenlee looks at the racy outfit Leo is holding]

[Coughing]
Bianca: Chris?
[Coughing]
Bianca: Oh, my God. Are you ok?
[Coughing]
Bianca: Oh.
[Chris is caught under part of the ceiling that has collapsed]
Chris: Slide it off. Slide it off.
Chris: Push this up. Help me lift this, right here. Come here, right here.
[Chris groans]
Chris: Forget it.
Bianca: Oh, no.
Chris: Forget it, the whole ceiling fell. We won't make it.
Bianca: Oh, my God, we're trapped in here!
Chris: Come here. Me, maybe. You can get out. Out back, right through the kitchen there.
Bianca: No.
Chris: Just go around the flames.
Bianca: No, Chris, I’m n going to leave you like this.
Chris: You have to. You have to get out and get help. You hear me?
[Bianca screams]
Chris: Go on. Listen to me. Get out.
Go on! [Chris coughs]

Kendall: Ryan, Chris went in to save Bianca and then the ceiling came down!
Ryan: Ok, all right. Just tell me how the hl this happened.
Kendall: I don't know!
Erica: Tell him! Tell him, Kendall, how you set that fire.
Kendall: I did not set that fire!
Erica: We found her inside!
Kendall: No -- I was trying to save Bianca.
Erica: You did not save her. Bianca's still trapped inside the house!
Kendall: No, no, I couldn't reach her. I got you out, and you would have burned to death if I hadn't.
Erica: Oh, you liar! What you did -- you stopped me from saving Bianca. And from the first --
[Sirens]
Kendall: Oh, thank God.
Ryan: Just tell me how long they've been in there. Just tell me now.
Kendall: I don't know, I don't know. But listen -- Chris -- Chris is tough, Ryan.
Ryan: They're both in there?
Kendall: Yes, listen, let the firemen --
Fire Chief: Anybody inside?
Kendall: Let them do their job.
Erica: And then Chris Stamp --
Ryan: And my father -- my father's in there.
Erica: Please, you've got to get them out. Please help them. Please get them out!

Bianca: Chris, I’m not going to leave you here!
Chris: Sorry, kid, you got no choice.
Bianca: No, you're stuck here because of me!
Chris: Listen to me. Make your way around those flames. You -- you be brave. Do something else for me.
[Bianca coughs]
Chris: Bianca?
Bianca: Anything, anything.
Chris: All right. You get outside and you find your mom. You tell her that I love her. You see my son, Ryan, you tell him I’m proud to be his father, do you hear me? Can you do that for me?
Bianca: No, you're going to be able to do that yourself.
Chris: Promise me -- Bianca! Promise me.
Bianca: Ok. I promise.
Chris: Good girl. All right. Go ahead now. Go on. Go! Go on.
[Bianca coughs]
Chris: Don't look back! Go on!
[Bianca coughs]
Chris: That a girl.

Greenlee: Why do I feel like I just crashed a stag party?
Roger: You know what, Leo? We should do that. We should get some guys together before the wedding, and we --
Greenlee: No, no, no, no. No way are my father and my fiancé bonding over cocktails, stogies, and strippers. If that is some kind of party favor --
Leo: It's not, exactly. It's --
Greenlee: Well, then whose cheap thrill is it?
Leo: Uh -- it's -- mine. I mean --
[Leo laughs]
Leo: I mean, I bought it for you, of course, so --
Greenlee: Leo, God, in front of my father? Are you nuts? I hope you weren't looking for a rating.
Leo: I thought it was a wedding present, so I opened it up and --
Roger: All righty, then. This is my cue to exit. Oh, I almost forgot why I came. I would like to invite you to a celebration dinner. Just the three of us, all right? Huh?
Greenlee: Daddy, that is so sweet.
Roger: Yeah, good.
Greenlee: But I want to include Simone since she's doing the maid of honor thing.
Roger: All right. Whatever you want. We'll talk about the details later, all right? I love you, Sweetie. Leo?
Leo: Dad?
Roger: Yeah. Ok, bye-bye, Dear.
Greenlee: Bye.

Man: Greenlee Smythe?
Greenlee: More presents?
Man: Can you sign here?
Greenlee: Ok. Thanks. Leo, never again give my father a sneak peek of what's to come on our honeymoon.
Leo: I'm sorry.
Greenlee: Very naughty. You and the lingerie.
Leo: I know. What's in the envelope?
Greenlee: Another one of your surprises?
Leo: I don't know. Let's see.
Greenlee: Oh, my gosh. It's from my mother.

Edmund: Opal, you're Jamie's grandma. I know you're concerned.
Opal: I'm more than concerned, Edmund. When a red-blooded teenaged boy is walking around like a zombie, that's a call for he.
Edmund: I know it is. You know, Brooke and I have -- we've been trying to get through to him.
Opal: Well, did it occur to you that you might be part of the reason that he's giving off the silent treatment?
Edmund: Yeah. But he's scared, ok? He's just scared. Opal, listen to me. Life has hit that guy with a lot of hard balls lately. And that's where I come in. That's where -- that's why I’m not bailing out right now. Whether he knows it or not, he needs me, and he needs me to be a dad, not just Brooke's boyfriend or future husband.
Opal: Jamie has a dad.
Edmund: I know he does, but he's not here, and I’m going to be here for the long haul. And he needs to know that he can come to me whenever with whatever. I've cleared a space in my life for Jamie, and he owns it as long as he wants it.
Opal: Well, I don't know. I think you're asking for trouble.
Edmund: Bring it on. Jamie's worth it.
Opal: I'm sorry. You're right.
Edmund: I give you my word. I will watch out for that boy as if he were Sam or Maddie, as if he were my own.
Opal: Well, maybe you ought to go on up and give it another whirl, huh?

[Doorbell rings]
Opal: Palmer, when did you get back?
Palmer: I came straight from the airport.
Opal: I guess you got my message in Hong Kong.
Palmer: Good Lord, Opal, we've been divorced for years. You're still henpecking me long distance. So, where's Peter? Why the devil are the both of you living here?
Opal: Brooke is in Switzerland.
Palmer: That doesn't answer my question.
Opal: I'm watching out for Jamie.
Palmer: Where's Tad?
Opal: He's in Switzerland, too.
Palmer: You mean, Brooke and -- I thought she was engaged to Edmund, isn't it?
Opal: She is, she is.
Palmer: Damn it, Opal! My son has been uprooted. Two of them are carrying on in Switzerland, and, still, you don't have any answers for me.
Opal: Will you just stop flapping your lips for five minutes? I have something hard to tell you. It's about Dixie. There was an accident, a car accident. And I’m sorry, Palmer, Dixie is gone.

Tad: Brooke, if I can't cope with Dixie's death, what am I going to do with Jamie?
Brooke: You need to help him get through this.
Tad: How?
Brooke: Just be there.
Tad: And what? What? Tell him she's in a better place? Life goes on?
Brooke: Yes, yes, something like that.
Tad: My son is going to turn to me, he's going to ask me to make sense of this, and it doesn't make sense. It's cruel and it's stupid, and anything I say to Jamie, he will know is a lie.
Brooke: You can tell him that you love him. That is not a lie.
Tad: It's not enough.
Brooke: Tad, you don't need to have all the answers.
Tad: I don't want all the answers. I just want my --
Tad: I just want my wife back. Oh. Two days ago, I couldn't count my blessings on two hands. Dixie was coming home. She was pregnant with my daughter. We were all going to be together, be a, you know, one, big, happy family. I even told myself that all the crap we survived was worth it. Now look at me. I close my eyes for one second and it's all torn away. So what's the point? Huh? What's this about? What do I say to Jamie when he turns to me and he asks me why? That's how it goes?
Brooke: Would you trade one minute of your life with Dixie's?
Tad: You think that's going to get me through it? Memories? Memories and sympathy cards, casseroles.
Brooke: Yes. And people who don't know what to say, so they don't say anything, but they're there. And they help. They all help, believe me. It saved my sanity and my life.
Tad: You're a lot stronger than I am.
Brooke: You're as strong as you need to be, and you have to be for your sons. You do, ok? For JR and Jamie, and JR maybe even more than Jamie.
Tad: Don't you get it? I can't help myself. How am I supposed to help them? Dixie's gone. I'm never going to see her again. I don't even -- I don't believe it when I say it. How am I supposed to comfort my boys?
Tad: I feel more lost and alone than I’ve ever been.
Brooke: You're not alone.
Brooke: Tad, I’m here with you every step of the way, the whole way home.
Tad: Home. Home was wherever Dixie was. You can go back. I can't.

[Sirens]
Erica: I can't see anything.
Fireman: You need to get back, ma'am.
Erica: No, please. My daughter and a friend, they're trapped inside the house.
Fireman: I'm sorry. We're doing everything that we can.
Ryan: Hey, hey, listen, what can I do? I want to help. I have to help.
Fire chief: Then stay out of the way.
Kendall: Something's happening. They found someone. They found someone.
Erica: Oh, my God!
Kendall: Something's happening. They found someone.
Erica: Bianca! Bianca!
Fireman: Some minor smoke inhalation.
Erica: She's all right? Oh, thank you, God. Thank you! She's all right. Is she going to be all right?
Fireman: She'll be fine. We'll take care of her. We'll take care of her. Breathe, breathe. Breathe.
Erica: Chris? Where's Chris? There was someone else in the house with her.
Fireman: We didn't see anybody.
Erica: He's in there!
Chris! Chris is in there.
Bianca: Chris -- he's trapped inside.
Erica: Chris.

Chris: Oh! Oh!
Chris: Erica.

Greenlee: Leo, maybe my mother sent us a big, fat check.
Leo: What is that?
Greenlee: It's a list of names and a note from my mom. "Greenlee, attached is a list of guests to be invited to your wedding. Mother."
Leo: This isn't a list. This is a freaking mob scene.
Greenlee: No. Leo, you're missing the point. This means that my mother is coming to our wedding.
Leo: Hey, I don't see that she's coming to the wedding.
Greenlee: No, of course she's coming. I mean, she wouldn't invite all these people and then be a no-show.
Leo: How do you even know who's who here? There's -- what -- ambassadors, viscount, the Hollywood left, the mainline right. This is --
Greenlee: Well, Mom's very well connected.
Leo: No, you know what? I'm sorry, but this is -- this is our day. This isn't about Mary Smythe of Mainline and Vine. I'm sorry.
[Leo tears up the papers Greenlee’s mother sent]
Greenlee: But, Leo --
Leo: No, no, no, forget it. We're going to invite who we want to this wedding, Greenlee, or we're not going to do it at all.

[Simone’s loft]
Roger: Now, where were we?
Simone: I was wondering how to accessorize the candlesticks before you tore out of here without any explanation. You want to tell me where you went?
Roger: Well, I went straight down to that boutique to give them hell for messing up my order.
Simone: Really?
Roger: Yeah, you were supposed to get something soft --
Simone: Hmm.
Roger: And silky. And unfortunately, the order went astray. I'm sorry. I hate to disappoint you.
Simone: Yeah.
Roger: Simone, I couldn't help overhearing earlier about the number your father did on you.
Simone: I wish you wouldn't have heard that.
Roger: No, I’m glad I did, because it gives me a chance to tell you how wrong I think he is about you.
Simone: Well, my dad, he just -- he just has very high standards.
Roger: Sure. You always try to please him, and somehow he always makes you feel like you never measure up, right? Let me tell you something. You are as sensitive as you are seductive. And you're going to make a name for yourself.
Simone: Yeah, once I figure out what I’m going to be when I grow up.
Roger: Well, I hope you don't give up on your writing.
Simone: It's more like it's given up on me.
Roger: Oh, it would be a shameful waste. Simone, I see publication contracts and book tours and bestseller lists in your future.
Simone: Did you happen to catch the title?
Roger: Yeah. How about "Inside Proteus -- the Making of a Drug Lord"?
Simone: Yeah, see, that book bit the reject pile when Leo backed out.
Roger: Who needs Leo?
Simone: I did. He had all the inside scoop.
Roger: So do I. I could be your source. We could write this book together.

Palmer: Dixie gone? I -- well, that's pretty hard to believe.
Opal: Yeah, for all of us.
Palmer: And Tad?
Opal: Oh, Palmer, don't.
Palmer: No, no, no, no, I just can't imagine the hell he's going through. I know we've had our differences, but I know, absolutely know, that Dixie meant the world to him.
Opal: You fretting about Tad when your own heart's broken. You do have one, Palmer, no matter how hard you try to hide it.
Palmer: Oh, don't tell me what I’m feeling. What about JR?
Opal: He's with Adam.
Palmer: Well, we got to get him away from there.
Opal: Well, Adam is his daddy.
Palmer: He's the worse possible influence on the boy.
Opal: Adam is his family, Palmer. Families got to rally around each other at a time like this.
Palmer: Damn it, Opal, I’m family, too, and I know that Dixie would want it. What the hell would I know what Dixie would want?
Opal: Palmer, wait.

Erica: Oh, my baby. My baby. Oh, thank God. Thank God.
Bianca: Mom. Chris had -- he had a message for you. He wanted me to tell you that he loves you. And he had a message for Ryan, too.
Kendall: Ryan? Oh, my God! Oh, my God, oh, my God! Where's Ryan? Oh. Oh, my God! Oh! Ryan!

[Inside the house – Ryan, wearing fireman’s gear – finds Chris]
Chris: Oh, I’m happy to see you, man. Talk about your 11th-hour rescuers.
Ryan: You are such a royal pain in the ass, you know that?

Palmer: I just want to go home, Opal.
Opal: And do what, Palmer? rattle around your room all by your lonesome?
Palmer: Don't want any company.
Opal: Well, I’m not thinking about you. I'm thinking about Petey. It would be good for our son to have his Mama and Papa nearby for a while.
Palmer: Well, I did buy him a kite. It's a dragon with big teeth and a long tail.
Opal: Well, stay and give it to him. We'll have supper together, family style.
Palmer: Well, I don't know if I could eat. All right. I'll stay -- just for Peter’s sake.
Opal: Good.

[Edmund and Brooke talk on the phone]
Edmund: Brooke, it's me.
Brooke: Oh, hi. I was just going to call you.
Edmund: How's Tad?
Brooke: It's rough.
Edmund: Yeah, I know. Listen, give me the airline information. I'll pick you up at the airport.
Brooke: Tad and I are not going to fly back tonight.
Edmund: Well, I thought you had everything squared away.
Brooke: We did. We did. It's not that.
Edmund: You don't want to talk in front of Tad?
Brooke: Can you understand?
Edmund: No, no, I do, Honey. It's just -- well, Jamie's in really kind of a bad way. I mean, he's not talking. He's not even eating now. Joe and Ruth came by. He gave them the same treatment.
Brooke: Edmund, would you put Jamie on the phone for me?
Edmund: Yeah, sure. Hold on. Jamie? Jamie, your mother's on the phone.
Edmund: She wants to talk to you. Here he is.
[Jamie takes the phone – listens to Brooke but doesn’t talk to her]
Brooke: Jamie? Hi, Honey. How are you? I wish you would talk to me. Listen, I know that Edmund and Opal are there taking care of you. You help them -- all right? -- Help you till I get home. And I want you to eat something, all right? Because you're going to get sick if you don't. Your dad's going through a very rough time right now, honey. And I know it would make him feel better if he knew that you were ok. Jamie, hold on one second, ok? Dad wants to talk to you.

Tad: Hey, Pal, how are you? Listen -- I -- I know that this is all pretty frightening. I'm kind of scared myself. I -- I just want you to know that it's ok to feel the way that you feel. And I don't want you to worry about me, all right? Because I don't think I’m coming home just yet. There's a couple of things I need to look after. When I do, I -- I -- I think I’m going to grab you and go up to willow lake. You know, do a little fishing, just you and me, the way it used to be.
[Jamie smiles]
Tad: Listen, until I -- until I get there, you -- do your old man a favor, ok? Don't -- just be good to yourself. I'll see you when I get home.
Jamie: I love you.

Roger: No, listen to me. I was inside the organization. The Proteus story is my story, too. You write it.
Simone: Oh, I don't think so, Roger.
Roger: Why not?
Simone: Greenlee. Roger: Well, this could be very therapeutic for Greenlee. It could help her, you know, close the book, so to speak.
Simone: I don't know.
Roger: Ok. Ok, ok, there's no pressure. No pressure. I just put it out there for you to think about. You know.
Simone: Yeah, I guess so.
Roger: Why don't we put the book on the back burner and see what else is cooking.

[Greenlee tapes up the guest list her mother sent and Leo ripped in half]
Greenlee: Leo, you don't get it. This list is code for my mother saying that my wedding matters to her.
Leo: What matters to you?
Greenlee: Right now, making my mother happy. Leo --
[Leo sighs]
Greenlee: If I can pull this off, if I can make our wedding day perfect for my mom, I have a chance at piecing my family back together again.
Leo: Ok. You have this -- this -- this fantasy about your mom and dad making some kind of miraculous reconciliation.
Greenlee: Miracles happen, Leo. I'll settle for having both of them at our ceremony. One perfect day for our wedding album for me to look back on? Please?
Leo: Well, you know, I highly doubt that that miracle's going to happen, but you know what? If that's what you want, Greenlee, that's -- that's what you're going to get.
Greenlee: It is. And so are you.

Chris: It's no use. Get out.
Ryan: I'm not going anywhere!
Chris: Get out!
Chris: Ryan, I mean it. Save yourself! You stubborn jackass!
Ryan: Yeah! I'm a stubborn jackass, and guess where I get it from, Dad? Now push! One, two, three.
Chris: I'm out! I'm out.
Ryan: All right, I got you.
Chris: You help me. You help me!

Tad: He just told me he loved me.
Brooke: Oh -- Tad.
Tad: You were right. For some reason, I thought I needed to be here. My son needs me more. Our son.
Tad: It's time for us to go home.

Roger: You should always be happy. I'm sorry your father makes you doubt yourself.
Simone: Yeah, well, I let him.
Roger: I want you to picture the look on your father's face when he sees your name on the top of the bestseller list for the first time and he realizes that you have arrived without his help or without his approval. This could be your declaration of independence. And you don't have to ask, "Daddy, may I"? You just do it.
Simone: How did you first connect with Proteus?

Leo: What the hell is a Maharincess?
Greenlee: Leo?
Greenlee: Let's play here comes the bride.
[Greenlee is modeling the sexy outfit that Roger bought for Simone]
Leo: Ok.

Fire Chief: Your friend Lavery decided to play cowboy, stole a uniform, and crashed the flames.
Kendall: Well, then go in and get him!
Fire chief: We're trying. We can't break through the firewall.
Kendall: No! No! You cannot leave him in there!
Fire chief: We're not going to give up and neither should you.
Kendall: No! Oh. Oh.
Bianca: God, please -- please let Chris and Ryan get out safely, please.
Erica: Please, amen.
Kendall: Amen.
[Explosion]

ON THE NEXT - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Anna: Now that Dixie's dead, I don't know if we stand a chance at all.

Erica: Please, there were two men who went in my house. You have to find them!
Fire chief: The house is way --
Kendall: This is all my fault.
