Brooke: Beth?

Brooke: So we'll get her the next time.
Jamie: Isn't there some kind of law that says she has to serve us?
Brooke: She will. It just, you know, may take some time, that's all.
Jamie: "Some"?
Brooke: Honey, look, I know maybe you think I’m wrong. I think it would be bad to run away from all of this and I just want to get back to my own routine, okay? Beth?
Jamie: Good luck with people treating you like dirt.
Brooke: It'll get better. You'll see.
Jamie: Whatever.

Edmund: Jamie. Brooke. How's it going?
Brooke: Fine.
Jamie: If you're on a water diet.

Edmund: Oh. Hi, can I get three coffees and three cinna-buns, please?
Beth: You got it.

Brooke: Well, you just did your good deed for the year.
Edmund: Oh, Beth’s easily overwhelmed. Two tables, she zones out.
Brooke: Anyway, thanks.
Edmund: Listen, forget it. You ready for the meeting?
Brooke: You're coming to the meeting?
Edmund: Well, you can't fire me, and unless my job description's changed, I'm required to be there.
Brooke: I just -- I don't know, I just assumed that you would need a little more time to take -- to look after Maria.
Edmund: Somebody else has that job.

[AIDAN’S MOTEL ROOM]
[Aidan dreams he is making love to Maria – he wakes up and Maria is gone]
Aidan: Maureen?
Aidan: Maureen? Oh, you -- damn! Aidan, you're a stupid idiot. Oh, why did you leave the room?

[ERICA’S PENTHOUSE – UNDER CONSTRUCTION]
Chris: There you are.
Erica: Hi.
Chris: Hi. Good news -- Trey's going to be ok. He's been released.
Erica: I know, I know. I called the hospital this morning. But, you know, there's still something I do not understand.
Chris: What?
Erica: Why was he here? Why was this Trey, who I don't even really know -- what was he doing looking for me in the middle of the night?

[TREY’S LOFT]
Trey: Hey. How you doing? Did you get any sleep?
Kendall: Who are you really?
Kendall: You dropped a bomb on me last night. Now I'm supposed to be all considerate of you?
Trey: I almost had my head bashed in last night, so I’m feeling a little fragile.
Kendall: Well, if your head tips off your shoulders and rolls across the floor, I'll call 911.
Trey: Thanks. You're a peach.
Kendall: I won't say what you are. You're not real bright, for one thing. Should you even be up?
Trey: It's ok as long as I take it easy.
Kendall: Great. Well, then sit down so we can figure this out. Just so you know, you completely and totally messed with my head.
Trey: Hey, it's not like this isn't bizarre for me, too.
Kendall: "This"? "This," as in suddenly we could be brother and sister? This is beyond bizarre.
Trey: Hey, I’m just saying it's possible.
Kendall: Yeah, that's your story. That is your story. I think this is some sick and twisted mind game that you're enjoying here.
Trey: What could I get out of making this all up?
Kendall: I don't know. I don't know! What -- you get out of anything? Why did you defend me on arson charges while playing the role of James Kenyon III? And then you want me to plead guilty, never mind the fact that I didn't even start the damn fire.
Trey: I was just doing what was best for you.
Kendall: I'll tell you one thing I know for sure -- I know that you have been lying to me from the moment I met you. And this whole "my daddy, your daddy" saga sounds like the biggest whopper of all.
Trey: I explained to you why I assumed this identity already.
Kendall: Oh, right. That's right, I forgot. Right, right, your childhood disappointments.
Trey: I thought you understood lousy childhoods.
Kendall: I'll tell you what I do understand -- your stupid, self-indulgent game that you played with my life cost me Ryan.
Trey: I didn't run Ryan off.
Kendall: I was supposed to plant that stupid listening device in Erica’s penthouse space. That was going to be my salvation. All I had to do was get it past the guy and then set it up. But then Ryan saw me. It's your fault, Trey. You and all of your stupid lies. It's your fault. Now I'm supposed to feel all warm and fuzzy because you tell me that we have the same father?
Trey: This isn't part of some grand scheme, Kendall.
Kendall: Sure it is. It is. But whatever you think you're going to get, I'm not falling for it.
Trey: I'm not after anything. Oh, and as far as Richard Fields, you think I’d make that up? It makes me sick to think that that old perv might be my father.

Erica: You know, if this Trey person hadn't come here, if I hadn't heard his voice --
Chris: Erica, come on, let's get out of here.
Erica: No, I mean the question is, why? Why was he here?
Chris: Well, you know what? That's a really good question and we'll find out. Come on.
Erica: I'm not crazy, Chris. Look, it was very confusing to me to hear Richard Fields' voice again, and then Kendall was talking to you and she was telling you that this Trey person's voice is exactly like Richard Fields' voice, exactly like her father's voice. And then you took her aside, and what did you say to her?
Chris: I told her to stay away from you.
Erica: Did she say anything? I mean, did she say anything about why Trey was here?
Chris: Erica, it's all very complicated.
Erica: Do you mean you think I’m too delicate to hear that?
Chris: No, Sweetheart, I just --
[Phone rings]
Chris: Excuse me. Stamp. Good. Good, I'll be right there. Thanks.
Erica: So I guess you're going.
Chris: Yeah. Look, Erica, do you remember what I said to you last night at the hospital? That I’ll be right there next to you no matter what happens and that I love you? I love your strength and --
Erica: But I'm not strong enough to hear the truth?
Chris: No. No. All right, I’ve got some pieces of the puzzle.
Erica: Well, can't you share with me what you know already?
Chris: Ok. Whatever happened last night forced to you relive the most traumatic experience of your life, being raped by Richard Fields. Now, what I'm going to have to talk to you about is going to be difficult for you to hear and -- you know what, darling, if you can just give me an hour or two to sort all this out, I promise I'll come right back here and I’ll spell it all out for you.
Erica: Everything, really? You'll tell me everything?
Chris: Everything. And together we'll figure out what, if anything, to do about it. I'm just looking out for you.
Erica: I know that. I know that.
Chris: What?
Erica: I'm going to wait for you at my office.
Chris: Ok, and then you and I can have a private, little dinner, candlelight, to make up for what happened last night?
Erica: I think we need to play it safe. I think we ought to order room service from the Valley Inn.
Chris: Whatever you say.
Chris: Come on. Let's go.
Erica: You know what, you go. I just -- I just need to be here, just for a couple more minutes alone, ok?
Chris: Ok. But I'm going to see you in your office in two hours, and then we'll -- we'll finish.

[Waiting until Chris is gone - - Erica makes a phone call]
Erica: Yes. When you see Mr. Stamp leaving the building, will you bring my car around to the front entrance?

[Aidan talks to Edmund on the phone]
Aidan: No, I didn't do anything to upset Maureen.
Edmund: Then why did she run away?
Aidan: I didn't say she did run away.
Edmund: But she's gone?
Aidan: Yeah, and now I know she's not with you. Thanks.

Edmund: No, no, no, thank you for doing such good job looking out for her. Aidan: I'll find her, ok?
Edmund: You sure as hell better.

Edmund: Well, there you go, Jamie. There's more proof that even adults can act like 5-year-olds.
Brooke: Aidan doesn't have any idea where Maria is?
Edmund: He's clueless.
Brooke: I'm so sorry. You know, you should just skip the meeting today.
Jamie: I got to see Ms. Burchette.
Brooke: Your math teacher?
Jamie: I'm doing some extra credit.
[Jamie rushes out of the restaurant]

Brooke: Boy, he usually scarfs down one of these in under a minute.
Edmund: What's usual about these days?
Brooke: Well, the sun still comes up in the morning.
Edmund: So far. Maybe I should talk with Jamie.
Brooke: Another day.
Edmund: Yeah.
Brooke: You think she's all right, don't you?
Edmund: In what way?
Brooke: Listen, let's just reschedule the meeting, and I'm going to help you look for her, ok?
Edmund: No. No, no, no. Look, I'm not going mount a search party. That's Aidan's job, ok?
Brooke: Edmund --
Edmund: Look, she made it real clear -- where she goes and what she does is none of my business.
Brooke: As if you could stop worrying about her.

Brooke: There's Maria. She's here with Joe Martin.

Maria: Oh, no, no, no, you don't have to get up. It's funny, actually, running into people that I know for a change.
Edmund: So you're all right?

Edmund: Aidan called. He was -- he said you were missing. He -- so he was worried.
Maria: What, did you guys form the Maureen’s missing alert club? What is this? Nice to see you, Brooke.
Brooke: It's good to see you, too.

Joe: Looks good to me.

Edmund: Years from now --
Brooke: Yeah, if I’d known I was going to get on a roller coaster today, I wouldn't have drunk all that caffeine.
Edmund: If I ever complain about being bored, would you hit me?

Brooke: But I could never hit you because you've been so kind.

Edmund: No, no, no, listen, the other night, the way that you were with Sam and Maddie, I'll never forget that.
Brooke: I meant what I said, and I'll always love them.
Joe: So, what's on your mind?

Maria: Well, when we first met when you were running some tests on me in the hospital, you said that if there was anything I needed, I could call.
Joe: Hmm. And you need something?
Maria: Yeah, I -- well, I'm used to working in hospitals.
Joe: I know.
Maria: Well, I mean me, as Maureen I’m used to being a nurses' aide, ward clerk, that kind of thing.
Joe: Mm-hmm.
Maria: And I really miss it.
Joe: You mean on top of everything else you've got on your plate, you're now looking for a job?
Maria: Yeah, well, I need some independence, and to do that I need some money, I need a job.
Joe: Well, I'm sure Edmund understands that.
Maria: Oh, I can't take his money.
Joe: "His money"? Maria contributed quite a bit to their finances. It certainly wouldn't be charity.
Maria: That's true, but I feel like until I really get a gut feeling about who Maria is or was, I really just need to do things my own way. So I was wondering if you could maybe put in a good word for me at the hospital? I mean, you know, if not, I could -- I’ll hunt down the waitress over there and see if she's got a job opening here.
Joe: I think we might manage something.
Maria: Really? Working with kids? Is that okay?
Joe: Working with kids. It's going to be very, very nice to have you -- to have you with us.

[VANESSA’S HOTEL ROOM]
Chris: One more time from the top. Agent Shelton told me that Trey Kenyon came to visit you last night, and after a short period of time, you became agitated. What set you off? Nessa, Agent Shelton also told me that Trey said he would eventually find out the truth. The truth about what? Nessa, Trey didn't go home last night. He went after Erica Kane. You know why, don't you? Well, so do I. I just need your confirmation. So tell me what the two of you talked about before he stormed out of here. Vanessa. I've had enough of your Sybil personalities to last me a lifetime. Now you tell me about your connection to Richard Fields or I'm going to get ugly! Vanessa!

Kendall: Hmm. Smooth talker. What girl doesn't want to hear her father labeled a perv, that being his child is tantamount to being an untouchable?
Trey: I didn't say that.
Kendall: Right. You're revolted by the fact that you could be my father's child.
Trey: Yeah. Yeah, I am.
Kendall: Because you're such a stellar human being, a beacon of purity and goodness.
Trey: You hate it when I lie to you and you hate it even more when I tell you the truth, so what do you want?
Kendall: I want things to get easier.
Trey: Me, too. At least we have that in common. Look, Kendall, I don't mean to diss you, and I’m sorry if I've hurt you or that Ryan’s not here or that you're not wherever he is.
Kendall: Me, too.
Trey: And if I could bring him back, I would. And if I could be the son of two nice, dull people instead of a drug-dealing whack job and some rapist, well, sign me up.

Kendall: Well, I'm not exactly thrilled with my cosmetics mogul mama, but we can't choose our parents.
Trey: I always used to imagine a mom and dad who didn't resent the time and space that I took up.
Kendall: Oh, if I’m supposed to feel sorry for you, it's not happening.
Trey: You're not. But last night when you were talking about how Erica looked at you and how it made you feel, I get it.
Kendall: Oh, really? You do, do you? Huh.
Trey: We all think we're so unique. But you're just manipulative and cynical and self-serving.
Kendall: Oh, more flattery.
Trey: Just like me.
Kendall: So you think it's in our blood?
Trey: I think it's worth considering.
Kendall: I don’t. Erica said that she thinks I’m worthless because Richard Fields is my father. And if you're his son, well, then I have to say that Erica might be on to something. Maybe I'm just no good.

[Knock on door]
Erica: Mr. Kenyon, please open up. It's Erica Kane.
[Knock on door]
Kendall: I have one rule that I always live by and I never break. I do not run from Erica Kane. I don't let her intimidate me, I don't avoid her. She is one demon that I always face.
[Knock]
Kendall: Erica. How lovely to see you.
Erica: Hello, Kendall.
Kendall: Won't you come in? Oh, wait, I have to frisk you for heavy, blunt objects first.
Erica: Mr. Kenyon, I would like to speak with you alone.
Trey: Kendall lives here, too, Erica. You can't ask her to leave.
Erica: I see. And I suppose that I can't ask her to be polite and give us some privacy?

Trey: Look, Erica, I’m not going to press charges, so --

Trey: I wasn't up to anything.
Erica: Why did you come after me?
Trey: You make it sound like I’m a stalker.
Erica: Are you?

Kendall: See? She's always so entertaining.
Trey: I don't know if you really recall how it went, but I called your name and you assaulted me.
Erica: I'm terribly sorry that you were hurt, but sneaking up on someone in the dark isn't very smart. It's really your own fault.
Kendall: If I were you, I would rethink pressing charges.
Erica: What were you doing in my new apartment? I haven't moved in yet. No one knew that I was there. I was simply waiting to surprise Chris Stamp.
Kendall: With a blunt object?
Erica: You obviously talked you away through the security guard downstairs. So what was it? What was it? What was so urgent that it couldn't wait until morning?
Trey: I wanted to ask you something.
Erica: Something that you couldn't ask me on the phone or in my office? What? Then what is it? Ask me now.
Kendall: Doesn't she have the most amazing powers of persuasion? Really, mother, you know, if you joined the police force, they could toss --
Erica: You know, I wouldn't stoop to suggesting what you can do with your so-witty remarks. Even with your lack of imagination, I'm sure you can figure it out.

Erica: Oh, thank God Ryan escaped you.

Erica: What were you after from me last night? What was it? What was it you wanted to know so urgently? Was it about him? Was it about Kendall’s father? And what could you possibly want to know from me that you couldn't get from her?
Trey: I was simply representing my client, Vanessa Cortlandt.
Erica: This is not finished.

Kendall: What the hell was that all about?

Erica: What connection do I have to Vanessa?

Chris: Look at me. Look at me, damn it, and listen. Erica is suffering right now, and somehow you're mixed up in it. Well, I'm going to stop that pain, and you're going to help me do it, because if you don't, Vanessa, I'll make you wish you and your personalities had never seen the light of day, I swear to God. Now you tee. You tell me what you know about Richard Fields. Tell me!
Vanessa: Richard Fields. Richard. I wanted so many things out of life. I mean, not just things, you know. It's -- I mean, I wanted a life. Not a Kansas life, you know, I didn't -- I wanted a little magic, a little bit of Oz.
Chris: What? What does this -- you know, just talk to me in English. English.
Vanessa: Well, I mean, I -- see, I thought -- well, I wanted to wake you in the morning with a reason to live, I mean, something to look to forward to, more than just punching my daddy's cash register at the hardware store.
Chris: What? What does any of this have to do with Richard Fields?
Vanessa: Well, see, I thought -- I thought I could do anything to get what I wanted, what I deserved. And until that night, I -- I didn't really know what "anything" meant.
Chris: You know, Vanessa, Leo and Trey, they've been laying it on pretty thick. They've been telling me what a good, caring, giving woman you are. And you giving them the lead where Proteus stashed E stocks? That just -- Vanessa, it put them over the top. The boys, they're convinced that you're looking to set the record straight. And talking to me about Richard Fields would mean a lot. And maybe what you're holding inside is just tearing you up, eating you alive. If you were to talk to me about that, I'll listen. You help me, I'll help you. And I promise you -- I promise -- I’ll repay that favor any way that I can. So, why don't you talk to me about Richard, tell me about him.
Vanessa: But that's the one thing I can't do, ever. I mean, I could never discuss it.
Chris: Aw. Why not? I mean, what -- what did he do to you that night that was so painful, hurtful?
Vanessa: Well, until that night, see, I was just like everyone else. Well, everyone else in Hollywood, at any rate. But after what happened --

Edmund: Look, I know this is not the time for me to go kicking around the country, but I'm itching to do a piece on corporate ethics.
Brooke: Don't you honestly think it's just a little too soon?
Edmund: I'd welcome the distraction.
Brooke: I don't mean because of Maria and the kids. I mean working so closely with me after -- after everything.

[Jukebox plays the song Edmund and Maria dances to – for the first time]
Brooke: Edmund?
Brooke: Are you all right?

Beth: I didn't mean to upset you. You used to love that song.
Maria: No, I really don't care much for country western.
Joe: Maureen? You all set?
Maria: Yeah.

Edmund: How can she not remember?
Edmund: How can everything be such a blank?
Brooke: She's just on overload right now.
Edmund: I can understand how people forget names and faces, but feelings? They don't go away. They -- they just don’t.
Brooke: No, they don't. But what can you do?
Edmund: I'm going to do what I should have done. I'm just going to start writing. I'm going to do some research and I'm going to figure out everything there is to figure out about memory and I’m going to reach her. There's got to be a spark of something that she remembers of our love. And she's going to remember it and I'm going to find it. I'm going to find it, Brooke, because -- I'm going to find it if it kills me.

[ERICA’S PENTHOUSE – AIDAN’S BACK TO WORK]
Aidan: Ohn, ugh.
Maria: Hey, you, working too hard?
Aidan: Oh, man. Thank God you're all right.
Maria: Oh, yeah. Oh, no, I'm better than all right. I'm actually on my over to your place to pack.
Aidan: To pack?
Maria: Yep.
Aidan: Hey, you don't have to pack. You don't have to leave because of, you know, what happened last night. I --
Maria: Oh, no, this doesn't have anything to do with the last night or with you. It's just that I really need to get some independence, finding my own place is the way to start it.
Aidan: So that's where you were this morning? You were looking for your own place?
Maria: Well, yes. I'm moving to cubbyhole 17 at the luxurious Pine Cone Motel.
Aidan: So you're going to be just across the way, then?
Maria: Yes, I am. Well, with a whole knapsack to lug around, I went for convenience.
Aidan: So, then, if you ever need anything --
Maria: No, no, no, no. You're going with the "I need anything" thing again, so -- you know, last night when we kissed --
Aidan: Oh, no, don't tell me, I overstepped.
Maria: Oh, no, you didn't overstep. No, you didn't, you didn't. It's just that it made me realize that whatever I do or don't remember -- whatever comes next, this is my life and I've got to get in there and take charge of it. So I can't predict the future, but having somebody want to kiss me is -- is new. And having to not run anymore is a huge relief and having this family that's waiting for me to claim them is just beyond strange, but I am ready to surf whatever comes my way, so bring it on.
Aidan: Wow. Well, you sound ready to take on the world.
Maria: Yeah. That's kind of how I feel. And I just feel like I’m here, I'm going to stay here, and I'm going to get a job, I want to see my kids and get to know them better. I'm just going to start a whole new life and wait and see what life has to shovel at me. So it's -- it's all good. It's all -- it's all really good.

Kendall: Trey, I appreciate your manly protectiveness here, but I can handle Erica.
Trey: I know you can.
Kendall: Well, then when you're done, when you feel better, why don't you hunt her down and demand some answers?
Trey: If it's true, if Richard Fields is really my father, too, that's for us to know, and us only.
Kendall: Because you're ashamed?
Trey: No. That's not it.
Kendall: I thought that we were going to start being honest here.
Trey: That woman has made you feel like there's something wrong with you because Richard Fields is your father.
Kendall: Well, he's not around for her to trash and I am, so she dumps it all me. But it's ok. I can take it.
Trey: Well, you shouldn't have to. Erica Kane doesn't deserve to be any part of your life. Ever since I can remember, people have treated me like something stuck to the bottom of their shoe. They didn't hate me, but, well, they just wanted me gone. Until I dressed myself up with a fancy name and a pedigree -- James H. Kenyon III.
Kendall: It helped, huh?
Trey: Everybody treated me differently -- everybody. You know what I say? To hell with everybody. We don't need them.
Kendall: Well, you need answers.
Trey: And I can find them without having to bow or scrape to the high-and-mighty Erica Kane.
Kendall: Ok, don't get all worked up.
Trey: I do need help finding out who I am, but there's only one person that I’m going to ask to give me a hand.

Edmund: You must think I’m crazy, Brooke, that I didn't think of this, you know, weeks ago.
Brooke: No I mean, it never occurred to me, either.
Edmund: No, here I am waiting for some local shrink to just magically make Maria’s memory come back.
Brooke: Listen, do you think that you should check with Dr. McMillarst before --
Edmund: No, no, you know who I should check with? Some international experts, okay? I'm going to read every research paper on amnesia that ever existed.
Brooke: Can you be objective? I mean, you're so deeply involved in this.
Edmund: Brooke, my best work is personal, come on. If you don't have a fire in the belly, why even sit down at the typewriter?
Brooke: Can I ask you a favor?
Edmund: Sure.
Brooke: Can I lend you a hand?
Edmund: That would be asking too much.
Brooke: I'm the one who's doing the asking. And I want to be in it from the top.
Edmund: Ok. Ok. All right. But this is good. This is good. I feel like I'm plugged in. I got to get started. Excuse me.

Maria: So I don't really know what I’m getting myself into, but, you know, we'll see.
Aidan: But you do trust this guy, though, right?
Maria: Joe Martin? Yeah. Yeah, he just seemed to get how I feel. I just wanted to go have a cup of coffee with guy, and then I felt like I was beamed into the mad hatter's tea party or something. But anyway, he said that I’m going to probably get to work with kids at the hospital.
Aidan: Yeah, well, that is just so great. It's just so great to see you happy, too. But I think you got to promise me something. If you ever, ever need anything, just call me.
Maria: Hmm. Well, I have to tell you it's good to have you nearby, but I don't want to depend on you or anybody else. I got to do this by myself.
Aidan: Message received, loud and clear.
Maria: Ok, good. Good, good, because I want you for my friend. I don't want you to be a caretaker.
Aidan: Fine by me.

Kendall: Hello! There is a speed limit in here.
Trey: Dr. Martin?
Joe: Mr. Kenyon. You all right?
Trey: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I'm fine.
Joe: You here for a follow-up?
Trey: This is a completely unrelated matter. I have a question, and it's completely confidential.
Joe: Ok. What is it?
Trey: Who can Kendall and I see about getting a DNA test?

Chris: Why don't you give it to me one more time. Maybe I can pick up on something. Maybe I missed something.
Gary: I told you everything.
Chris: Tell you what, why don't -- why don't we have a cup of coffee. Maybe that'll help.
