ALL MY CHILDREN

APRIL 25, 2000

Edmund: Sleep well?
Alex: Yeah. I always sleep well at my mother's place. I guess the cold, damp air is perfect sleeping weather. Hello.
Edmund: Hi. Well, we can stay a few more mornings if you like.
Alex: Yeah, I would do that under different circumstances. But I have to go back to Bryn Wydd today.
Edmund: Well, if you're not ready, we can stay another day.
Alex: The sooner I see my medical records, the better, really.
Edmund: I don't think one day is going to make that much of a difference.
Alex: Yeah, it will. I need to find out what the hell they did with me in that awful place. Why that woman, the housekeeper, she called me Anna.
Edmund: Don't worry, we will very soon.
Alex: I keep thinking that Dr. Griffith said that he'd find my records just to get us out of there that day.
Edmund: Well, if he did, he's in trouble because I promised you that I would stay with you till we figured out all about your past, and I never break my promises to pretty ladies.
Alex: Maddie told me that.
Edmund: So you going to lay back and relax with me?
Alex: Well, I'm wide awake now. I mean, I don't feel like going back to sleep at all.
Edmund: Who said anything about sleep?

Stella: Miss Gillian, what are you doing?
Gillian: Hi, Stella. I thought it was your night off tonight.
Stella: Yes, ma'am, but I had to drop off Sam and Maddie at their Grandma Isabella's. And then your grandmother decided to visit some friends in New York, so I drove her to the airport. Can I help you with that?
Gillian: No. No. I have got it all figured out. See, I need to practice for when my husband comes home. So I just got one of Jake's lab coats, so I'm just going to start on this. Ok. The iron? Yeah, right. Ok. All right.
Stella: Are you sure you want to do this? Do you have some questions you'd like to ask me first?
Gillian: No. No, I've got it all figured out. Everything is under control. You go off and you enjoy your night off, ok? Good night, Stella.

Erica: You did it, didn't you? You -- killed Paolo.
David: Here. Your eyes are looking clearer.
Erica: For me.
David: The effects of whatever drug Paolo slipped you is starting to wear off. How do you feel?
Erica: How did you know that Paolo drugged me?
David: Because I know you, Erica. You refused medication after surgery even though you were in excruciating pain. Your recovery is much too important to you. You wouldn't throw it away over a glass of champagne, especially during an evening as important as this.
Erica: Absolutely. He did drug me, David. I swear I didn't do anything.
David: I know. I know. After I saw the two of you arguing, I started asking some questions about Paolo. Then Opal found me, and she told me the two of you were fighting in his room, so I went up to get you.
Erica: To rescue me. And that tape. Oh, David, the police could have used that to establish a motive. And now they can't do that, they won't do that because you took it to protect me. You did kill him, didn't you?
David: The less you know, the better.
Erica: Darling, don't you worry. No one will ever know.

Leo: You think that I killed him. Vanessa, I am telling you I didn't do it.
Vanessa: Leo, listen very carefully to me. I want you to sneak out through the kitchen. I want you to go to the airport, find Palmer's private jet. The pilot's already been instructed to fuel up and fly you north to Canada.
Leo: You want me to run.
Vanessa: Darling, Quebec is lovely this time of year. You can just lay low.
Leo: You think that I killed him.
Vanessa: Look, Leo, I am not judging you. I understand. Honestly, darling. I mean, the man was blackmailing you. God only knows what for, but enough to come after you for $30,000.
Leo: So it stands to reason that I killed him. Is that it?
Vanessa: Leo, all I'm saying is you had a motive. We found you standing over Paolo's body with blood all over your hands, darling. What am I supposed to believe?
Leo: Oh, I don't know, the cold, hard facts? Blackmailing wasn't the only motive, mother. You seem to forget that I -- I found you in bed with the guy.
Vanessa: All right, Leo.
Leo: What, I lost it, right? I was in a completely crazed state of mind, right?
Vanessa: Temporary insanity, I suppose.
Leo: Yeah, if that's the way you want to put it.
Vanessa: Leo, darling, I am so sorry. I'm so sorry you had to witness that stolen moment. Right now all we have to worry about is getting out of the country while there is still a chance. I'll visit you as soon as I can, darling. Now go. I want you to go, Leo.

Gillian: Ow. Ow. Oh, oh, oh.
Gillian: Oh, no. Oh, no, Jake's coat. What now? Um -- oh, no. I take it back! Oh. Um --

Gillian: Stella! Oh, that's right, she left. Oh, please, please be working. Please be working.
Gillian: Oh, thank you. Hi. Joe, this is Gillian. This is a message for Joe. I'm here at Wildwind, and I'm all alone. There's nobody here. The lights -- the lights have gone out, and it's just completely dark. I have no idea what happened. And if you get this message, could you just please come over to Wildwind right away? I'm in the study. Thank you.

Gillian: Scott, it's Gillian. Listen, I'm all alone here at Wildwind. If you get this message, just rush over right away, as soon as you can. Thanks. Oh.

Leo: If I run, mother, isn't that going to make me look guilty?
Vanessa: Darling, you are the number one suspect.
Leo: Oh, that's right. Thanks for reminding me. I'm both touched and humbled by your support.
Vanessa: Leo, I happen to be your mother. I would do anything in the world to save my baby.

Opal: Palmer?
Palmer: Whatever it is, Opal, I'm not in the mood.
Opal: Oh, hush up, you old coot. I come in peace. I'm worried about our girl Erica.
Palmer: Really? Why?

[Telephone rings]

Palmer: Just a moment. Yes. Flight plan? I have no idea what you're talking about. I most certainly did not authorize my wife to ready the jet.

Derek: Dr. Hayward. Can you tell me where you were at the time Paolo Caselli was killed?
Erica: He was with me.
Derek: Oh, really, Erica? And what time was that? I mean, how would you know what time Mr. Caselli was killed?
Erica: I don't. But he was with me most of the evening.
Derek: How convenient.
David: Erica, I can answer the questions myself.

Greenlee: Erica. Excuse me. Have you seen Ryan?
Erica: No, I haven't.
Derek: Excuse me, young lady. Young lady, I'm in the middle of something here.
Greenlee: So am I. I'm trying to locate my date. I checked the parking lot, but his car is gone.
Derek: Really? And who was your date?
Greenlee: Ryan Lavery. Do you know him?
Derek: Oh, yeah. How long ago was that?
Greenlee: I don't know. Why do you think I've been looking for him?
Derek: How long have you been -- what is your name, anyway?
Greenlee: Greenlee Smythe. And you are?
Derek: Lt. Derek Frye.
Greenlee: I'm not ready to put out an APB. Why are you giving me the third degree, anyway? It's not a crime to want to leave with the person you came with.
Derek: Excuse me. I'll get back to you in a second. Damn. Damn.

Alex: Edmund?
Alex: Edmund?
Alex: Edmund? Edmund?
Edmund: You rang? Hi. Hey.
Alex: I woke up, you weren't here.
Edmund: Oh, it's ok. I was just -- I was just outside in the back. It's ok. Why were you so scared?
Alex: Oh, I don't know. What do you have there?
Edmund: Oh, well, flowers for milady. What?
Alex: Nothing. They're lovely.
I love daffodils. Edmund: Whoa, whoa, whoa. What is it?
Alex: Dimitri gave me daffodils. I mean, it must be this time last year.
Edmund: Well, that was awkward. I didn't mean to --
Alex: Oh, please don't apologize. It was bound to happen sooner or later. If it wasn't flowers, it would be something else.
Edmund: So, now that it's happened, I guess we can actually be grateful. Alex, the last few days that I've spent with you have been extraordinary.
Alex: Yes, they have.
Edmund: And because they've been, it's time for you and me to talk about Dimitri and Maria and you and me.

Opal: Palmer, would you please pay attention?
Palmer: What is it?
Opal: Erica. Now, what do I say if Derek starts asking me questions about Paolo?
Palmer: Well, what has that got to do with Erica?
Opal: Well, maybe I know some things that wouldn't look so good for Erica.
Palmer: What are you going on about, woman?
Opal: I heard Erica and Paolo having this horrible argument, and she threatened to kill him. Palmer, do you think that maybe she really did?
Palmer: Well, that's preposterous.
Opal: Well, that's what I would think, too, except that when I asked her what happened when she came back down from his room, she said she took care of him. Now, what do you make of that?
Palmer: Nothing. Neither should you. Erica did not kill that man. I am certain of it.

Erica: David, I think maybe you should sit down. Sit down here. I think that maybe you're
in some kind of shock. David: Now you're taking care of me.
Erica: Yes, of course I'm taking care of you. You took care of me. David, Paolo was horrible to me, believe me. He threatened to go after Bianca. He threatened to actually go after Bianca. And he threatened me. And he threatened to go to the tabloids and tell them that I had fallen off the wagon, and heaven knows what else he was going to tell them, but he was out to ruin me.
David: Well, the man -- he's slime. You have nothing to worry about. You're safe. He got exactly what he deserved.
Erica: Well, still. Oh, that had to be so hard for you, David. I mean, you've taken a vow to save lives.
David: True.
Erica: You risked everything for me. I don't know how I'll ever be able to thank you enough.
David: You don't have to thank me. Having you safe is reward enough.
Erica: Well, I certainly owe you an apology. I mean, earlier, when you asked me could I please stop playing games, I should have just told you everything right then and there.
David: Everything?
Erica: Yes, about Paolo. I was just using him to make you jealous. And, look, it's a ploy that was totally ridiculous, totally foolish, and I'm so ashamed of it right now.
David: Well, so you say, but did see the two of you kissing.
Erica: David, you have got to believe me. I never wanted Paolo.
David: No? Then what do you really want, Erica?

Gillian: Why isn't this thing working?

[Door opens]

[Footsteps]

Gillian: Joe? Scott?

Gillian: Aah!

[Gillian hits Ryan with the flashlight]

Ryan: Ow!

Edmund: I didn't expect this to happen. You and me -- I mean, this is sort of spontaneous. It was instinctual.
Alex: I know. Let's not analyze it. I mean, I didn't expect it, either. I really think it was unplanned and wonderful.
Edmund: Yeah, it was. It was. And, listen, I don't want you to think that I didn't -- you know, I hadn't thought of it and I'd never wanted it.
Alex: Maybe this was too soon. You know, we probably should have stayed in a hotel, had separate rooms or something because it's so isolated here.
Edmund: No, no, no, Alex. What are you -- I'm not saying that we made a mistake, ok? Are you?

Ryan: An ironing board?
Gillian: Yeah. I'll explain it later. Why are you here?
Ryan: Oh, man. I got the message that you left Scott, you know? You sounded so frightened. I thought I should call 911, but I didn't know what to say, so I -- you know, I came over.
Gillian: Yeah, the lights went out. I'm going to get you an ice pack in the kitchen. Will you be ok?
Ryan: Yeah. Yeah, I'll be fine. Especially now that I know that you're ok.

Derek: How long have you known the deceased?
Opal: I don't. I don't know him very well. I mean, I met him in passing once.
Derek: Where was that?
Opal: Here, in the dining room. Look, I got to go call home and check in, you know. I got a new sitter with Petey, and I promised that I would be home a long time ago.
Derek: Just a few more questions, Opal.
Opal: Well, fine, fine. Then they're just going to have to wait until my attorney, Jackson Montgomery, gets here. And then your department can pay all the extra babysitting fees.
Derek: Wait a minute, now. Jackson's a damn sight more expensive than your sitter. But my questions can wait till later.
Opal: Well, fine.

Greenlee: Poor Paolo.
Leo: Poor Paolo? How about me? What about a little compassion for the prime suspect?
Greenlee: You? No way.
Leo: Yeah, tell that to the police.
Greenlee: I will if they ask. You couldn't be a killer, not in a million years.
Leo: You really mean that?
Greenlee: Yeah, sure. When you came to my rescue with Kenny the pool guy, I saw what kind of friend you are. You're a good guy. You're definitely no killer.
Leo: Thanks. Greenlee: You're welcome. Now, I figured out a way to get Ryan. I want to run it by you.

Palmer: Why aren't you upstairs packing?
Vanessa: Packing?
Palmer: I just had a call from my pilot. Apparently you're planning a trip without me.

Erica: I never wanted Paolo. David, if you don't believe me, why don't you just listen to the cassette? I mean, he was trying to scam me with some bogus real estate deal in the Mediterranean. But I got it all. I got it all on tape. And I was threatening to go to the police with that tape and have him arrested. And that's when he saw you and he kissed me.
David: Oh, so then it was all his idea?
Erica: Well, yes, because he knew that I was just using him to make you jealous. He knew that. And he wanted to get back in my good graces, so he thought that he could get back in my good graces if he kissed me in front of you. I mean, I'm sure that on some level he was hoping that I'd succumb.
David: But you didn't?
Erica: No, I did not. When I saw your face I knew that I had gone way too far with this whole thing. In fact, that's when I came up to try to explain things to you. But then you were so pigheaded and you were so rude. I mean, you were horrible to me, David. And then when you broke up with me just like that? And you treated me as if I were just some of an insignificant affair. I mean, that was really horrible of you, David. And you know something? This is really just as much your fault, if not more so. What? What?
David: Erica, you're brilliant. Somehow you've spun this whole thing around as if it's all my fault. How do you do it?
Erica: Do what?
David: How do you make me crazy and wild with desire at the same time?
Erica: I don't know. I guess it's just a gift.
David: Yes, it certainly is.
Erica: What? What is it?
David: How do I know you're not just doing this out of gratitude?
Erica: David. I have waited so long to be back in your arms.

Alex: No, I do not think we made a mistake.
Edmund: Your turn. It's not going to hurt me to talk about Dimitri, you know. I think about him all the time. I love him. He's my brother. And I miss him. And I know you do.
Alex: Well, I guess the shock of being without him has faded somewhat. But I tried to hold on to the person that I became with him -- his wife, the good doctor. I think that's why I fought so hard for the Andrassy Foundation. And ultimately that's why I stayed in Pine Valley -- because I felt I knew who I was under his shadow. But I think I'm losing that, too.
Edmund: Why?
Alex: Don't take this the wrong way. These last few days with you here have been wonderful. But I am completely adrift. I came here to find out who I was, and I feel like I'm losing who I've become. Does that make any sense?
Edmund: Ok, listen to me. Listen to me. You're not going to lose you, you're not going to lose Dimitri, and you are not going to lose me. Now, we came here to figure t your past, and that's what we're going to do. The future and the present, they can just wait.

Vanessa: Palmer, I'm not going anyplace without you. I was thinking about Erica.
Palmer: Erica?
Vanessa: Yes, this whole thing is going to look very bad for her, darling. I just thought we should be prepared, you know, in case she has to leave the country. I know she comes to you in moments of crisis.
Palmer: Well, there is no crisis here, Vanessa. And there's no need for her to leave the country because she's innocent. That's why I canceled the jet. Now, let's see if lt. Frye will let us go back up to our suite.

Vanessa: Lt. Frye -- I need to speak with you.
Derek: Have you seen your son David or Erica?
Vanessa: No, no. But I have just learned that Erica was overheard having another nasty argument with Paolo.
Derek: By you, per chance?
Vanessa: Me? No. It was Opal. And this time it wasn't in the Valley Inn dining room. It was in Paolo's room. When Erica -- I mean, when Opal asked Erica what happened, Erica said, "I took care of him."
Derek: Opal, huh?
Vanessa: Yeah, I think you should ask her yourself. I mean, it sounds ominous to me.
Derek: Yeah. Thank you, I will. I'll check it out just as soon as I find Erica.
Vanessa: Lieutenant, Erica's probably with David right now. She's probably trying to convince him to take the fall for her, you know. What is it you policemen say? Cherchez la femme.
Derek: We don't say that.

Greenlee: So there we were on that bench together, and it hit me. Gillian has some kind of hypnotic hold over Ryan. And if I can figure out what it is, if I can own it, Ryan will be irresistibly drawn to me.
Leo: You mean like on a subliminal level?
Greenlee: On every level. I'll study each nuance of Gillian's personality. I will take her apart carefully and reassemble myself. Just for Ryan.
Leo: Three words, Greenlee.
Greenlee: Hmm?
Leo: Give it up.

Gillian: Why do you suppose the lights went out?
Ryan: I got it, I got it, I got it. It's ok. Thanks. The lights? It's probably just a brownout, you know? I noticed the lights on the street were out in the area, too. It's no big deal. Why were you ironing?
Gillian: I was just practicing.
Ryan: For?
Gillian: Well, you wouldn't understand.
Ryan: You' probably right. I wouldn't understand why a beautiful woman would tear out of a party and race home so late to iron. Sounds a little pitiful, maybe even a little desperate.
Gillian: Maybe I am desperate. Maybe I needed a little distraction.
Ryan: From?
Gillian: From you. From the way you looked tonight or your eyes or the sound of your voice. I keep trying to get you out of my head, and I wish you would just stay out, but you won't.
Ryan: Well, maybe I should just leave, then. Ohh.
Gillian: Where does it hurt? Ryan? Where does it hurt, hmm?
Ryan: You know what? You know what? You know what? You know what? It hurts everywhere. Gillian, it hurts everywhere. It hurts my head. It hurts everywhere. And being near you isn't really helping very much. This is certainly not helping very much. Whether I'm near you or I'm away from you, it's all torture.
Gillian: I know.
Ryan: Well, if you know, then why don't you keep doing it to me?
Gillian: I'm not. I just know because I can't get you out of my head, either.
Ryan: What are you saying, Gillian?
Gillian: No, I can't.
Ryan: What are you saying, Gillian? Stay. Talk to me. Tell me. Please, just tell me what you're saying!
Gillian: I love you! I still love you.

Edmund: I have a confession to make.
Alex: Huh?
Edmund: I'm craving a cup of strong American coffee. I hate tea.
Alex: Oh, my goodness. You can get shot for that.
Edmund: You sound better. Are you better?
Alex: Yeah. I'm glad we had our little talk.
Edmund: Me, too. Well, I guess I better dig into these scones if I'm going to be tearing apart Bryn Wydd stone by stone.
Alex: Hopeless stubbornness -- I think it must be in the genes.
Edmund: There's nothing hopeless about it. We're going to get results, no matter what it takes.
Alex: How can I ever thank you?
Edmund: Be happy. Find peace. Teach me how to eat one of these.
Alex: It's easy, actually.
Edmund: [English accent] it's a scone.
Alex: It's a scone. All righty. First of all, we go in here. And then you can have some jam. Just put a little bit on the end here.
Edmund: [Normal voice] No wonder you guys have two-hour breakfasts.
Alex: And a lot of cellulite.
Edmund: There you go. Oh, yeah, you have lots of that.
Alex: Here.
Edmund: Mmm.
Alex: Oh, what a mess. Do you have a napkin?
Alex: All right. I'm going to have some of this now.

Guy: I've got them, and I can take them out at any time. Just say the word.

Greenlee: And you wonder why you don't have any friends.
Leo: Greenlee, I'm being your friend. What you're suggesting is ludicrous.

Vanessa: Leo. Leo, I need to speak with you to update us on our previous conversation.
Leo: Mother, I'm busy.
Greenlee: Not anymore.
Leo: Greenlee --
Vanessa: Let her go, darling. Look, you need to hear this. Things have changed.

Palmer: I may have need of the jet after all, so have it fueled and keep yourself on standby. Oh -- and if you ever take instructions from my wife again, you're fired!

Vanessa: So, darling, since the option of fleeing has gone, we are simply going to have to find you the best defense attorney available.
Leo: Oh, just one? I was kind of hoping for the dream team.
Vanessa: All right, Leo, can you be serious just once?
Leo: You want serious, Mother? Maybe you're the one that ought to be thinking about getting the hell out of Dodge. Your indiscretions may cost you more than a murderous son.
Vanessa: What do you mean?
Leo: Palmer's suspicions are raised. He already asked me if you were having an affair with Paolo.

David: Now, isn't this better than being apart?
Erica: Mmm. What took us so long?
David: I would say that we got ambushed by our fears, our petty jealousies, stubborn pride. But since the whole thing is entirely my fault, I guess I'll just have to work very hard on that.
Erica: Well, you're off to a wonderful start.
David: Good, because I'm a perfectionist, you know. And I can't rest until I get it just right.

[Pounding on door]

Derek: Dr. Hayward, Ms. Kane, it's lt. Frye. Open up -- now.

Gillian: Is that what you wanted to hear, Ryan? Are you satisfied now?
Ryan: That I nearly had to drag a declaration of your love for me out of you? No, that doesn't satisfy me, Gillian. It really doesn't, especially because the last time you told me you loved me you married Jake the next day.
Gillian: Then why'd you want to hear it?
Ryan: I want you to hear it. Gillian, I -- do you understand? I want you to know your heart.
Gillian: I know! I married Jake. I chose Jake.
Ryan: For all the wrong reasons, Gillian. You deserve so much better than this.
Gillian: I betrayed him. I'm the reason he left.
Ryan: No, no, you did not betray him, Gillian. You didn't. You showed him so much love. You went to the wall for him, and he can't even begin to fathom that kind of devotion, that -- that kind of passion because it's too reckless. But I do understand it. Gillian, I understand it because you showed it to me, too. You did. But I was too messed up to accept it. I couldn't believe that somebody so rare -- as rare as you -- could offer such an exquisite gift.
Gillian: All I ever wanted, Ryan, was you.
Ryan: I know. I know you said that to me, but I couldn't understand why. Gillian, I just knew that you deserved somebody better than the confused -- than the confused man that I was, but I'm a different man now, Gillian. I'm stronger now, I'm clearer, and I know what I want to do with my life, and I know who I want to spend it with, and it's you, Gillian.
Gillian: I've changed, Ryan. I've grown up. I want to be a better person. I want to be kind and caring and understanding.
Ryan: Well, you are. You are those things. Gillian, you're all those things. This is my fault. This. This -- you see, my confusion pushed you into a life, into a love that is so much smaller than you deserve. Gillian, it was me. It was never you. I wasn't fair to you, so don't go try and change who you are. Don't try and change who you are to prevent from being hurt again. Don't settle for a love that's less than the sun, the stars, and the moon. Gillian, you deserve -- you deserve it all. And I may be crazy if I think that I can give those things to you. I may be dreaming if I think that we can start over again. But you know what? I never let myself dream before, Gillian. I never did. And now it's all I do. Look at me. And you are in every single one of them.
Gillian: Oh, God. We've wasted so much time.
Ryan: Then let's not waste any more. I love you, Princess. And I want you back.

ON THE NEXT. . . . . ALL MY CHILDREN

Arlene: Adam, is that you?
Adam: You have to help me get out of here.

Leo: When's the last time you took a close at your husband? There's blood on his cuff.

Derek: My questions aren't for you. They're for Ms. Kane.
