ALL MY CHILDREN

AUGUST 10, 2001

David On TV: No, actually, I never gave up hope. I had complete confidence in our system of justice. Well, I always knew in my heart that the charges against me were ridiculous as well as false, so I'm happy to see that Judge Campobello was able to see that very clearly and very quickly, I might add.
Reporter: Is there anything you regret from this experience?
David On TV: Well, I guess if there's anything I regret, it's the fact that I was kept away from most of my patients who really need me.
Reporter: And how do you see your future from here on?
David On TV: Well, most of my adult life has been dedicated towards healing, so now that I've been totally exonerated, I'm looking forward to getting back to that at the earliest opportunity. I mean, this has been a very sad and disturbing chapter in my life. And I just want people to know that I hold no ill will or malice towards those who falsely accused me.

Tad: Falsely accused you --

[Glass breaks]

Agent: What happened here?
Tad: Too much sex and violence.
Agent: That's going to come out of my budget, you know.
Tad: Yeah. Tax dollars well spent. Look, I'm sorry, guys. I didn't even mean to do it. You know, I guess I don't know my own strength. Dixie? Dixie? Honey, are you here? She was just here. She's here one minute and gone the next. What the hell happened to my wife?

Mateo: Rick, you can't quit. You can't quit. You're my best bartender. Come on.
Rick: I'm sorry, Mateo, the offer was too good.
Mateo: Well, that's just it, I'll match it.
Rick: It isn't just the money.
Mateo: Then what is it?
Rick: In six months, I'll be managing their bar in LA.
Mateo: Well, I can't match that.
Rick: It was, you know, out of the blue.
Mateo: Good luck.
Rick: Thanks. You'll get another guy.
Mateo: All right.
Rick: Take it easy.
Mateo: All right. Leave the apron.

Chris: Hey, Mateo.
Mateo: Hey.
Chris: I hear you need a bartender.
Mateo: You can't replace Rick. He's an institution. He has a following. People come here just for him.
Chris: Why don't you give me a shot?
Mateo: You?
Chris: I'm available.
Mateo: What about BJ's?
Chris: I think I'd rather work here.
Mateo: You had the agency give Rick a job, didn't you?
Chris: Well --
Mateo: That's what you did, right?
Chris: It makes it easier for you to say yes, doesn't it?
Mateo: I don't want the FBI using my place as a cover. You understand me?
Chris: Listen up, Mateo. You're going to want us here as much as I need to be here.

Shannon: Hey, you.
Gabriel: What do you want?
Shannon: I know you're hung up on Rosa, so pay attention.
Gabriel: What about Rosa?
Shannon: Listen, if you don't want her to get hurt, get her away from Marcus now.

Marcus: What? What is it? I mean, this feels very right, don't you think? I love you.

[Liza remembers]

Adam: I slept with you once, but it will never, ever happen again.

Liza: It's over. It's over. I am never going to let you hurt me like this again.
Liza: Smoke. Oh, God, from Wildwind.
Liza: Oh, damn it. Oh, damn it. Damn it, Adam, damn it! How could you do this to me? How could you hurt me?

Ryan: Gillian?
Gillian: Ryan!
Ryan: Gillian, where are you?
Gillian: Ryan, I'm here. But you can't come with me. Not yet. Ryan, save yourself. Get up! Get up and go! Save yourself! Go!
Ryan: Gillian --

Tad: Come on, guys. The least you can do is let me call my wife.
Agent: Her phone is probably bugged. You could be traced here.
Tad: Well, if she's being shadowed by some kind of drug lord, then how could you just let her leave?
Agent: We had no reason to stop her.
Tad: Well, was she in a rush? I mean, did she say anything? Did she get a phone call?
Agent: I didn't hear the phone ring
Tad: Well, that -- that doesn't make any sense, you know? She just wouldn't get up and leave and not wake me up. Are you sure that nothing was strange?
Agent: We just thought that you were done here.
Tad: And what?
Agent: So she left.
Tad: I've got to get out of here, you know? This is not right. Either something to happened to her or I'm just getting cabin fever. I'm going stir-crazy being locked up in here with no way of contacting my --

Dixie: Hey, what's the matter?
Tad: Dixie. Thank God. Are you all right?
Dixie: What's going on? I'm fine. I'm sorry. I thought I -- I didn't want to wake you up.
Tad: Well, I mean, I thought that something had happened.
Dixie: Oh, no. Oh, Baby, I'm so sorry.
Tad: No, that's ok. It's all right. It's fine. Seriously. As long as, you know, you're all right.
Dixie: I'm fine. I'm ok. Really. I thought I would be back before you woke up. I have a surprise for you.
Tad: What is it?
Dixie: Don't move. You can come in now.
J.R.: Hey, Tad. You ok?
Tad: I'm a lot better now. Come here.

Mateo: Who says I want the FBI camping out at my place? I mean, I have a say, don't I?
Chris: Mateo, you got a nice place here. You cater to an upscale kind of crowd, money to spend. The kind of crowd that drug people like to target.
Mateo: There are no drugs here.
Chris: And you want it to stay that way, don't you?
Mateo: Come on, what are you telling me?
Chris: We're closing in on the major distributors. And my sources tell me there's going to be a connection made here at S.O.S. I want a presence.
Mateo: Do you know how much money I just spent renovating this place? Man, I can't have that kind of action here. Come on. You guys at every entrance, packing heat, guns --
Chris: That's not how we work. Look, you live here. Now, do you want to start making this a better place, or are you one of those kind of guys that want people to do things for them?
Mateo: I knew you were going to say something like that. All right. You made your point.

Mateo: Hey. What's going on, man?
Edmund: Mateo.
Mateo: Good to see you.
Edmund: Thanks. You, too.
Mateo: What's going on?
Edmund: Place looks great.
Mateo: Thank you. Thank you. You here to check on Gabriel?
Edmund: No. Should I be?
Mateo: No, no, everything's cool.
Edmund: Is he all right?
Mateo: Yeah, he's doing well. Can I buy you a beer?
Edmund: Yeah, sure. Come on.
Mateo: All right.

Edmund: He's new?
Mateo: Yeah. Hey, Chris?
Chris: Yeah?
Mateo: Edmund Grey, Chris Stamp.
Chris: Nice to meet you.
Edmund: You, too.
Chris: What are you drinking?
Edmund: Beer.
Chris: You got it.

Edmund: How's Hayley?
Mateo: Just fine.
Edmund: Yeah?
Mateo: I'd be going crazy if I was tied down like that.

Chris: Here you go.
Edmund: Thanks.
Chris: Enjoy.

Edmund: All right. Listen, I've got to get back and check on the kids. I just wanted to say hi.
Mateo: Ok. All right, great. The kids, huh?
Edmund: Yeah.
Mateo: I'll be saying that pretty soon.
Edmund: Yes, you will. Yes, you will. Thanks, man.
Mateo: It's on the house. Please.
Edmund: That's for him.
Mateo: Can I walk you out?
Edmund: You got it.

Shannon: What is wrong with you? Don't you care about Rosa?
Gabriel: Look, Rosa told me to leave her alone, and I have work to do.
Shannon: But I'm telling you, she's going to get messed up bad.
Gabriel: From Marcus? Is Marcus going to hit her like he hit you? I mean, Marcus is the one that hit you, isn't he?

Ken: Hey, Shannon, have you seen Marcus? I'm supposed to hook up with him here.
Shannon: Yeah, well, I haven't seen him.

Rosa: Wait. I'm sorry, I can't.
Marcus: Rosa, Rosa, Rosa --
Rosa: Marcus, I'm sorry.
Marcus: Look, just trust me. This is going to be our night. We're going to remember this forever.
Rosa: I can't. I'm sorry. It's just -- it's going too fast.
Marcus: Ok. But I'm sort of ready right now.
Rosa: I'm not.
Marcus: No, I mean I'm ready, like, right this minute. I'm sorry. I can't -- I can't stop it. So --
Rosa: I'm sorry, Marcus, I just can't. I'm sorry. I can't.

Liza: I'm not going to forgive you for this, Adam. I swear I'm going to make you hurt just like you've hurt me.

[Rustling]

Liza: Who's there?
Liza: Who are you?

Tad: Come on, J.R eat up. It's really, you know, not too bad.
Dixie: Actual, it's surprisingly not too bad.
J.R.: The fries are pretty good.
Tad: All right, I admit it, it stinks. About the best thing you can say about this hotel is that Uncle Sam is paying for it.
Dixie: Well, to heck with room service. At least the feds are looking after you. It's been really hard for both of us not knowing where you are.
Tad: Well, I'm going to be out of here in no time at all.
J.R.: Yeah. I know.
Dixie: Tad, the TV was not like this when I left.
Tad: Yeah, I know. I was aiming at David Hayward, and the tube got in the way.
Dixie: So you did this on purpose?
Tad: Yeah, I did it on purpose. What was I supposed to do? I wake up out of a sound sleep, and I have to listen to him on the television whining about how justice has been served, that he's been completely exonerated?
Dixie: Well, that's nonsense. He got off on a technicality.
Tad: Well, it's one hell of a technicality. I still can't figure it out. The DA's case was a lock.
Dixie: I think there was something wrong with the judge.
Tad: Besides the fact that she was a total idiot.

[J.R. remembers]

J.R.: What was he talking about? The judge will know. Dad?

Tad: Oh, to hell with it. You know what I say? David Hayward is no longer our problem.
J.R.: If you say so.
Tad: I definitely say so. Besides, we've got a lot to catch up on, right? I mean, how about your music? Have you done any -- what happened? What? What happened?
J.R.: I've missed so many rehearsals lately, the guys took a vote to get rid of me.
Tad: Oh, I'm sorry. That stinks. Well, you can always concentrate on your soccer.
J.R.: Tad, I'm still in the group. I won by one vote.
Tad: Well, that's good. That's great.
J.R.: I don't really care. I don't need to sing.
Tad: Yes, you do. You love singing. It's part of who you are.
J.R.: That was before, Tad.
Dixie: Listen, you are great. And that whole group would stink without you.
J.R.: Mom, that's not true.
Tad: Absolutely. Of course it's true. Listen, just go back to rehearsal, ok? Just pick up your routine, and eventually, it would be like nothing ever happened, you know? Seriously, I want you to go right from music to soccer to home, the way you always have. It's really, really important to your mom and me that what happened doesn't completely stop your life.
J.R.: Ok. I'll go back. Just don't sweat it, Tad. I've caused you enough problems already.
Tad: No. Look, we talked about this, ok? I accept responsibility for what's happened. You are not to blame. And it doesn't help me one bit for you to think that you are. What does help me is knowing that, you know, all three of you are at home waiting for me when I get out of this place. We're going to be a family again. Soon.
J.R.: When?
Tad: I don't know, but it's going to happen.
J.R.: But you're still here, and you have drug dealers after you because of me. And the cops are after you for killing Sweeney. You can tell me that I'm not to blame, but I know that it's still my fault.
Tad: If you screwed up, then I screwed up worse. And the best that either one of us can do is learn from our stupid mistakes, ok? There are more important things. You've got to let the past be the past and just do better.

[J.R. remembers]

Adam: Before you judge me, Son, hear me out.
J.R.: Dad, what you're doing is crazy and just wrong. And the fact that you're doing it for me makes everything worse.
Adam: J.R., I had to do it. Or else you would go to jail for one stupid mistake you made as a kid.
J.R.: Dad, what about Liza? What does she have to say about this whole plan to bribe the judge?
Adam: Liza won't know.

Tad: J.R., I know this is hard to believe, but we are going to get through this.
J.R.: I don't believe it, Tad. I don't.

Chris: Here you go.
Hey, Mateo.
Mateo: Hey. All right, look. I have family in this town. I have a kid on the way. And I'm not going to sit back and pray that bad things aren't going to happen. So whatever you need to help protect people here, I'll -- you got it.
Chris: Ok, then. We're in business.
Mateo: I'm not so sure you tending bar is going to accomplish that, though.
Chris: Well, wait and see.

Woman: I just heard Rick isn't working here anymore.
Mateo: Yeah, yeah, he had to move on.
Chris: Hi. I'm tending bar for Rick. For tonight. I'm Chris.
Woman: Brianna.
Chris: Hi. What can I get you? Wait. How about a Chardonnay?
Brianna: Yeah. Hey, Rick was a guru. I could always talk to Rick. About anything.
Chris: Why don't you give me a try.
Brianna: My fiancé.
Chris: Uh-huh.
Brianna: He doesn't want me to go for my degree.
Chris: Well, why not?
Brianna: He thinks I'm wasting my time.
Chris: You know, Brianna, that reminds me of my favorite quote from Eleanor Roosevelt -- "nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent." So what are you studying?
Brianna: Archaeology.
Chris: You're kidding. Did you hear about the latest findings in Lake Malanga in Honduras? Human skeleton or 200 years older than anything previously found.

Phil: Good evening, Mateo.
Mateo: Hey.
Phil: Hi.
Mateo: Philomena, right?
Phil: Yes.
Mateo: How are you?
Phil: Good. Is Rosa around? We're going to go see a movie after her shift's over.
Mateo: Yeah. Stay put. She's on her break.
Phil: Oh. Congratulations on your impending fatherhood.
Mateo: Thank you very much.
Phil: May I?
Mateo: Sure. That's what it's there for.
Phil: This is definitely my favorite masculine name.
Mateo: Christopher.
Chris: Yeah? You call me, boss?
Phil: Excuse me.
Mateo: No, no, she --
Chris: It's a great name.

Phil: Hey, Rosa. Hey, what's wrong?
Rosa: I just wish I was dead. I was with Marcus.
Phil: Oh, your blouse is all -- oh.
Rosa: Nothing happened, Phil.
Phil: Well, why are you so upset if nothing happened?
Rosa: Look, we can't be here. Come on, let's talk over here.

Ken: Why were you out in the parking lot?
Marcus: I wasn't. I was with Rosa at the beach.
Ken: Oh, so did -- did you do it?
Marcus: No. She ran off when things got a little hot.
Ken: See? I knew even the great Marcus couldn't get up that.
Marcus: Shut up, man. Next time I'm with her, I'm going to bag her. And she'll like it.
Ken: We'll see, we'll see. You're crazy, man.

Liza: No! Stay away from me!
Liza: Ryan?
Ryan: Gillian. Gillian.
Liza: Are you -- Ryan? Ryan. My God, Ryan.
Liza: Ryan? My God, what happened? My God, are you breathing? Ryan? Ryan? Ryan?
Liza: No, Ryan --
Ryan: Gillian, please don't leave me.
Liza: Ryan. Ryan, it's Liza. It's Liza. Look at me. It's Liza.
Ryan: Liza?
Liza: Ryan, just stay with me. What happened? What happened?
Ryan: Liza, what are you doing here? Where are we?
Liza: We're in the woods. We're near Wildwind. Ryan, I saw smoke. What happened? Is there a fire at Wildwind?
Ryan: The Turret. The Turret was on fire. I was waiting for her.
Liza: For who?
Ryan: She didn't come.
Liza: Gillian?
Ryan: There was a fire there. It's got to still be going.
Liza: I've got to call someone.
Ryan: Wait, wait, wait. She's gone. Gillian's gone. And she's not -- she's t coming back. Gillian's not coming back.

Marcus: Hey, Mateo. There's a good crowd tonight.
Mateo: Have you seen my sister?
Marcus: Um -- she said she was on her break. I think she's out back.
Mateo: No, I haven't seen her. Do you know where she is?
Marcus: She told me she wasn't feeling well, so I told her to take an aspirin and lie down, so --

Rosa: Whenever I'm close to Marcus, I feel better then I've ever felt in my life. Why couldn't I just do it?
Phil: Well, if you were really ready, you wouldn't be with me, Rosa, you'd be with Marcus. You did what was right for you.
Rosa: Yeah, but what about him? I mean, what if I've lost him now?
Phil: Well, I doubt you have if he's who you say he is.
Rosa: But, Phil, he wanted me there so badly. His arms were wrapped around me so tight. And I panicked. I freaked, and I ran

Gabriel: Can I speak to Rosa alone?
Phil: I'll be right outside.

Gabriel: What did Marcus do to you?
Rosa: Gabriel, he didn't do anything to me.
Gabriel: Then why are you crying?
Rosa: It's none of your business.
Gabriel: Why can't you see what Marcus --
Rosa: Don't ever touch me, Gabriel.
Gabriel: But I'm trying to look out for you.
Rosa: I told you that we could be friends and that's it. Don't try and grab me. Just leave me alone, ok?

Mateo: Hey, man, back off.
Gabriel: I'm just trying to help.
Mateo: Get out of here.

Mateo: What was that about?
Rosa: I don't know. I was just finishing up my break. I'm going to go back to work now.
Mateo: Marcus told me you weren't feeling very well.
Rosa: Yeah, no, I wasn't, but I feel better now.
Mateo: You don't look better. What's going on? Tell me. Rosa?
Rosa: No, it's just -- I guess it's just Gabriel. I feel like he's always around me, you know?

[Crash]

Mateo: Stay here.

Rosa: Gabriel, what is wrong with you?
Mateo: Get back inside. Get back inside! What the hell is wrong with you?

Gabriel: Man, I wasn't trying to hit you!
Mateo: What if my sister would have come outside, huh?
Gabriel: I never would have hurt Rosa!
Mateo: You could have hit her in the head. You wouldn't have hurt her?
Gabriel: No!
Mateo: What were you doing in the back room?
Gabriel: I was trying to get through to h!
Mateo: You can't push yourself on people. You understand me?
Gabriel: But I'm not the one who was trying --
Mateo: Listen to me. You're fired, all right? Don't come back. You're fired. I gave you a shot. I'm done messing with you, all right? You're too much trouble. I'll send your things to Wildwind. Just get out of here. And you stay away from my sister, or you'll have to deal with me.

Rosa: Teo, what did you do?
Mateo: I fired him.
Rosa: Teo, that's not what I wanted.
Mateo: No? You told me he was bothering you. Why don't you go, too, huh? You look terrible. I'll go home, and I'll check on you.

Tad: J.R., the people who are bringing Ecstasy into Pine Valley deserve to be behind bars. And if we have anything to do with putting them there, then I guess that's the reason we're going through all of this.
Dixie: Doesn't that make sense?
J.R.: I guess.
Dixie: It doesn't matter what happened. What matters is how you deal with it.
Tad: What matters is we were one of the all-time best families this world has ever seen, and we've just got to do a little work to get back there.
Dixie: Yeah, Tad gave me this necklace to remind me of what our family was like before all this stuff happened. And I swear I'm not going to take it off until all of us are living under the same roof again.
J.R.: You guys sound so sure that it is going to happen again.
Tad: That's because we believe in us. So do me a favor -- believe in us, too, ok?
J.R.: I want to.
Dixie: Well, that's a start. I'll go with that.
Tad: It kills me not to be able to get in touch with Jamie, you know, that I can't call him, that he doesn't know I'm ok.
Dixie: Oh, that's ok. I ran into Brooke, and I told her that she shouldn't worry about you, and she got it.
Tad: Got it, like, she knew you'd seen me and she knew I was ok? That kind of got it?
Dixie: Yeah, yeah, but she said that she was just going to tell Jamie.
Tad: How is he? Because you don't see him much anymore, huh?
J.R.: Not really, but he's good. He didn't go to science camp this year.
Tad: Yeah, I know, I know. Because of Laura's operation. Is she all right?
J.R.: I guess so.
Tad: You know, I remember last summer when you and Jamie were both going to camp.
Dixie: I remember that. I had you ironing all the name tags into the shirts.
Tad: I didn't know how good I had it at the time.

[Phone rings]

Dixie: Oh, it's your dad. Why don't you answer that.
J.R.: I don't want to talk to him.
Tad: No, it's ok. The call can't be traced through --
J.R.: No, it's not that, Tad. I just don't want to talk to him. Is that ok?

Liza: I called the fire department. They're probably going to want to talk to you. You should get some medical attention, you know, for your bruises and everything.
Ryan: It doesn't matter anymore, Liza.
Liza: Ryan, what happened at the Turret?
Ryan: I thought I could bring her back. I called for her, and I prayed. I was so sure she was going to come back to me.
Liza: Ryan.
Ryan: I wanted her -- I wanted her to come back so badly, Liza. But she's gone. I know that now. I'm never going to see her. I'm never going to see her again.
Liza: No, you're not.
Ryan: I was alone my whole life, and I was used to it. But now I know -- I know what it's like to have someone love you and care for you. I don't know what I'm going to do now.
Liza: I don't know, either.

Mateo: So, how's it going out here?
Chris: Not bad. Oh, Brianna is going to start bringing her archaeology class here every week.
Mateo: So that means I have to hire you now, huh?
Chris: Maybe.
Mateo: About that other thing.
Chris: Yeah?
Mateo: Whatever you need, I'm in, all right?
Chris: I heard you were a standup guy.
Mateo: Yeah, yeah, well --
Chris: Listen, that guy you introduced me to before -- how tight are you two?
Mateo: Edmund?
Chris: Yeah.
Mateo: Well, he's my brother-in-law.
Chris: Ok, just so we're clear, I don't want you telling him anything about me or why I'm here.
Mateo: Yeah, yeah, we're clear.
Chris: Good.

Rosa: Hey, Phil, I don't think I could handle a movie right now, if that's cool. I just want to go home.
Phil: Ok. What happened with Gabriel just now?
Marcus: What? With Gabriel?
Rosa: No, it was nothing. I don't want to talk about it right now, ok? I just want to go home.
Marcus: Rosa, listen, are you sure? Because I wish you would stay here with me.
Rosa: You do?

Mateo: Excuse me. I thought you were going home.
Rosa: No, I am. I was just saying good-bye to my friends, that's all.
Mateo: All right, good. I'll get you a cab. Come on.
Rosa: No, it's ok. I can do it.
Mateo: Ok.

Rosa: Hey, Phil, a rain check on the movie?
Phil: Sure. I'll call you in the morning just to make sure that you're feeling better.
Rosa: Thanks.

Marcus: Rosa, I just want to tell you that I hope you feel better, ok?
Rosa: Thanks. Bye. Good night, Teo.
Mateo: Good night.

Marcus: Rosa, thank you for waiting for me.
Rosa: Your note said that --
Marcus: Yeah, you believe me, don't you? Because it's true. You deserve so much better than how I've acted. You think we could maybe start tonight over again? Please?
Rosa: Yeah. Yeah, I guess this is what I want, too.

[Gabriel remembers]

Mateo's voice: And you stay away from my sister, or you'll have to deal with me!
Marcus' voice: Next time I'm with Rosa, I'll bag her. And she'll like it.

Tad: J.R., take it easy. You don't have to talk to Adam if you don't want to.
Dixie: There's some other reason that you're avoiding him, isn't there?
J.R.: I don't know. I just can't trust him. No matter what, he's always up to something, even if he says it's for my own good.
Dixie: Well, you know, you can tell us. You know that. What is it?
J.R.: I mean, you guys are saying that we should be together as a family again. It's true. I want to. But --
Dixie: But what?
J.R.: We can't if I keep on lying to you. I have to tell you the truth.
Dixie: The truth about what?
J.R.: About David Hayward. It's my fault the judge set him free.

Ryan: Liza?
Liza: Yeah?
Ryan: What's wrong?
Liza: Nothing.
Ryan: You're crying.
Liza: No. No, I'm stopping.
Ryan: What are you doing here? What happened?
Liza: Oh, nothing. Everything. Look, Ryan, my problems don't compare to what you're going through, but I just -- well, I just don't know that I want to live this way anymore. I don't -- I don't know what to do.
Ryan: Don't cry.
Liza: You know what I want to tell you? I want to tell you to have hope, that you're going to meet someone someday that's going to make life worth living. But I don't know. I mean, I actually believed that there were no two people in the entire world that loved each other the way that Adam and I did.
Ryan: But, Liza, you still love Adam.
Liza: I have to make it stop. I have to pull the man out of my heart because all he's done is lie to me and betray me, and I've let him.
Ryan: Don't be mad at yourself because you love him so completely.
Liza: He's killing me. And I can't let it go on anymore. I want the pain to go away.
Ryan: I wish I could make that happen, Liza. I wish I could make that happen.
Liza: You can't. Nobody can. You're sweet.

[Ryan and Liza kiss]

ON THE NEXT - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Dixie: Tad, promise me you'll just let it go.

[Noise]

Gabriel: Rosa, are you ok?
