Tad: J.R., What did you mean it's your fault?
J.R.: Nothing. Forget it.
Dixie: Sweetie, a judge is the one who decided to drop the case against David, ok? Why would you think that has anything to do with you?
J.R.: Mom, please.
Tad: Listen, your mom and I love you more than anything. You know that, right? I know a lot's happened and the things between you and me have been especially rocky, but if we just try to trust each other again, you know, as a family, we can get through just about anything. I mean it. J.R. --
Dixie: You know, maybe we just shouldn't push --
J.R.: Dad told me not to say anything. Let it go.
Dixie: J.R., If your father asked you to keep something from us, I hate to say this, but it's a pretty good reason why you should tell us. It's ok.
Tad: Really, it's ok.
J.R.: I did something pretty stupid.
Dixie: To David?
J.R.: A while back, I broke into his hotel room with a bunch of friends. Dixie: Why did you do that? J.R.: We took some drug samples from his medical bag.
Tad: Sweeney was there, wasn't he?
J.R.: Yeah.
Tad: Was it his idea?
J.R.: I just went along with it. I got us into the hotel by saying I was Adam Chandler's son. Sweeney kept most of the pills --
Tad: Wait, wait a minute. Wait a minute. This isn't the stuff that your friend Ken OD'd on, was it?
J.R.: Yeah. Mom, Hayward said that he's going to tell the police everything and wreck everything for me forever.
Tad: He threatened you?
J.R.: Not to my face. He went to Dad.
Dixie: What?
Tad: That's it. That's it. Hayward's blackmailing Adam.

David: Hey, Buddy, has Mrs. Martin come in yet?

Vanessa: Something tells me that you wouldn't be looking for Ruth, now, would you, Darling?
David: I'm expecting Dixie, Vanessa, so if you don't mind?
Vanessa: Ah. Well, waiter, would you mind bringing us two glasses of your finest champagne? And I do hope it doesn't come with a screw-off top.
David: Well, if trolling around a local club is beneath you, mother, I'd be happy to call you a cab.
Vanessa: Well, I would go anywhere to find you today, Darling, because we have a very unprecedented victory to toast.
David: "We"? I don't think so.
Vanessa: Oh, come on. I mean, months and months of wrangling with the lawyers, and then poor martyred trees -- enough to fill every tabloid south of Manhattan just to, you know, publish your plight? And then, lo and behold, the judge dismisses the case in three minutes flat. It's remarkable, isn't it, dear? Even I didn't think you were that good.
David: I had good lawyers and the commonwealth's case against me was circumstantial.
Vanessa: And you had that judge wrapped around your little finger, or somewhere closer in the anatomy scale -- closer to the back or something.
David: You know, a comment like that from a stranger is bad enough, but from the woman who gave birth to me? Yuck.
Vanessa: Relax, Darling. I'm in on the fun.
David: "Fun" and you don't belong in the same sentence.
Vanessa: Ok, David. Why do you do this to me? I'm only here to tell you that I really am happy that you finagled your release, no matter how. Why do we always have to bicker like this?
David: I don't know. I mean, don't you have a rich, old coot that you can do this with? You also have another son who you trained a hell of a lot better than me to tolerate you. So why don't you go run off to Leo, all right? Take your drinks with you.
Vanessa: I am not going anywhere, Darling, because tonight you shouldn't be alone.
David: I already told you, I'm not going to be alone.
Vanessa: You came here because Dixie left you a message at the hotel? Oops. That was me.
David: What did you just say?
Vanessa: When are you going to accept the fact that, Darling, I am the only woman you can really depend on?

Mateo: Yeah, Mom, I know. I just wanted to know if Rosa is still awake. I want to -- Mom, I put her in a cab a while ago. What do you mean she's not -- don't -- no, no, don't start to panic. I'll find her, ok? No, I mean it. I'll call you back. All right. Bye.

[Phone rings]

Edmund: Hello?
Mateo: Hey, Edmund, it's Mateo.
Edmund: Mateo, what's going on?
Mateo: Is Rosa there?
Edmund: No.
Mateo: How about Gabriel?
Edmund: I haven't seen him. Have you seen Gabriel? Has he gotten home from work yet?
Anna: Not that I know of, no.
Edmund: Do you think that Rosa's with Gabriel?
Mateo: I'm not sure. Listen, you know, I might as well tell you because he's going to tell you as soon as he gets home. I had to let him go.
Edmund: You fired him? Why?
Mateo: Yeah. You know, it wasn't working out. I tried. I really did.
Edmund: Yeah, I know. Can you tell me what happened?
Mateo: Well, he -- he seems to have a thing for Rosa, and, you see, she's seeing this other guy. He wasn't handling it too well and he just lost it.
Edmund: I'm sorry to hear that.
Anna: What's happened? What's happened?
Edmund: If I see Gabriel, I'll ask him if he's seen Rosa. Either way, I'll call you, Mateo.
Mateo: Great. Thank you.
Edmund: Listen, I'm sorry about this.
Mateo: Yeah. Yeah, me, too.

Anna: What happened?
Edmund: Hmm. Mateo had to fire Gabriel.
Anna: But why?
Edmund: Apparently, Gabriel was inappropriate or something with Rosa.
Anna: Oh, dear.
Edmund: Yeah. And now Mateo can't even find her.
Anna: Well, he doesn't think that Gabriel did something --
Edmund: I don't know, I don't know. Sounds like Gabriel just didn't want to take no for an answer.

[Grunting]

Gabriel: Rosa, are you ok?
Gabriel: Rosa.

Shannon: What are you doing, Dog Man? Marcus. You killed him!

Anna: What are you saying, that -- that Gabriel wouldn't take no for an answer?
Edmund: Well, Mateo wasn't specific, ok? It sounds like -- it sounds like Gabriel got jealous of Rosa's boyfriend and things got out of hand.
Anna: You know, he's so gentle in his heart, but on the outside he's just -- I know he's crazy about this girl. He probably didn't know what to tell her. So maybe he did say or do something inappropriate when she was with someone else.
Edmund: Yeah. He's been -- he's been abused and neglected all his life and -- and then there's loss. Lets 'just hope all it was was awkward.
Anna: You don't think he'd hurt Rosa?
Edmund: I hope not. But listen, I mean, we've seen how angry he can get and how fast he can get there.
Anna: That's because he is like a child. He acts on his instincts. I mean, he doesn't understand all these mind games the rest of us play.
Edmund: True, but it's these instincts and how they manifest themselves. If -- if it is more than just a lack of social graces --
Anna: You know what? I don't want to talk about this until I know the whole story.
Edmund: Anna, you're right. You're right, but here's the point -- I mean, if it's taken a violent turn --
Anna: Well, he's not going to be locked up again. That's for certain.
Edmund: If he needs help, we're the ones to find it, ok? Now, I can make some phone calls, and if you need --

Stella: I'm sorry. There's trouble.
Edmund: Stella, what is it?
Stella: Security just called. The Turret has gone completely up in flames.
Edmund: Come on.

J.R.: Dad basically told Hayward to go to hell. He said there was no way David could prove that I was in his room or stealing drugs with my friends.
Tad: But Hayward wouldn't let up?
J.R.: No. In fact, he tricked me.
Dixie: What do you mean he tricked you?
J.R.: He got me to come back and admit to everything -- breaking in, stealing drugs -- and somehow managed to get it all on tape. And then he showed it to my dad. He had me. He had everything on camera.
Tad: I don't believe this. I mean, I really don't believe --
J.R.: Hayward said that if Dad didn't help him out in court, that he would use that tape against me. I didn't even find this out till today -- I mean, what dad said. But he told me that he had Hayward under control. And when I found out that he got out of court, I knew he did something to make the case go David's way.
Dixie: The question is what.
J.R.: Look -- Mom, I'm sorry about all this.
Dixie: It's ok. It's really ok. I wish it hadn't happened, but I'm really glad you told us.
J.R.: Me, too. I mean, if I hadn't done anything wrong, Hayward would be in jail right now. He wouldn't be able to hurt us anymore.
Tad: He won't. He's never going to hurt us again, I promise you. Because I'm going to do anything and everything I have to to make sure he doesn't. That he doesn't come anywhere near my family ever again. You understand?
J.R.: Yeah. I understand. Is there any way you can throw him back in jail?
Tad: Don't you worry about it. I'll take care of our friend Dr. Hayward.
Dixie: Sweetie, you know, I want to talk to Tad alone for a few minutes if it's ok. Would you mind going down to the lobby and just waiting for me?
J.R.: Yeah. Sure.
Dixie: Ok.
J.R.: Look, Tad, I'm sorry you have to hide out with these feds. It's kind of my fault, too.
Tad: Stop it. Stop talking about fault, ok? It's not anybody's fault that this happened. Let's just move on and try to be a family again. Ok?
Dixie: I'll see you in a few minutes.
J.R.: Ok. J.R.: I'm really sorry, guys. I really wish things were different.

[Door closes]

Dixie: Well, I wish things were different, too.
Tad: What do you mean?
Dixie: I would like that look on your face to go away and never come back.
Tad: What look?
Dixie: Tad, don't do anything, ok? Please promise me you'll just let it go.

Vanessa: I wish so much we could be closer. I wish it wouldn't be like this.
David: What do you want? Huh? I mean, why don't you just say it? For once in your life, why don't you just say what the hell you really want rather than try in vain to be clever?
Vanessa: All right. I want to be your mother.
David: Oh, please.
Vanessa: No, I want a family. Why is that so difficult to understand?
David: Because it's ridiculous, all right? Come on, Vanessa, especially coming from you. I mean, look at us -- you, me, Leo -- each one of us out for ourselves. Just get over it, all right? You want to put yourself out of your misery, go run off to Palmer and his cronies. Hell, he has a little rugrat of his own, doesn't he? Petey? Try and convince that poor kid that you have a maternal bone in your body.
Vanessa: I don't want Petey. I want you and Leo.
David: Yeah, well, it's too late. You're the last person in the world we would trust. Ahem.
Vanessa: Well, you two seem to have gotten closer. I think that's a beginning for all of us.
David: Mother, you wanted to be the champion of grifters, right? Well, it looks like Leo -- he's beyond that now. And frankly, I was never interested in your schemes. So it looks like you're on your own. And you know this little plan of yours? You know why it won't work? Because neither one of us can stand the sight of you. So how do you expect us to get around that little roadblock? Hmm?

Mateo: No, no, that's ok, Philomena. Just call me if you see her or hear from her, ok? I don't care how late it is. Great. Thanks.

Mateo: Hey.
Gabriel: Mateo, I need to see your sister. Where is she?
Mateo: What are you doing here? I thought I told you not to come back.
Gabriel: Do you hear me? I'm trying to find your sister! Man, let me go! Come on!
Mateo: Shut your mouth. Shut your mouth. You hear me? What happened to your hand?

[Voices]

Edmund: What's up?
Anna: Hi, Ryan. Hi.
Edmund: Hey, Liza.
Anna: Were you in the fire?
Ryan: Is it out?
Edmund: Uh, yeah, the fire department's got control of it. How did -- how did you end up here with --
Ryan: Is -- is it gone?
Edmund: What?
Anna: Sorry?
Ryan: The Turret -- is there anything left?
Edmund: Uh, no. It's just -- just the walls. Ryan?
Ryan: Well, then, it's over.
Anna: What do you mean?
Ryan: It was my fault.
Liza: Ryan, wait --
Ryan: No, I started the fire. I didn't mean to. I was -- I was waiting for Gillian.

Dixie: I know you're angry.
Tad: Yeah, with good reason. David Hayward threatened our son. He lured him back to his hotel room for the express purpose of getting J.R. to self-incriminate on camera. I mean, it's perfectly obvious that J.R. was scared to death.
Dixie: I know, but he took it to Adam. I mean, he tried to get something out of Adam, not J.R.
Tad: What does that mean? Are you defending him?
Dixie: No. How can you say that?
Tad: Because it doesn't matter who he took it to. J.R. is just a kid.
Dixie: I know. I know that. I also know what's going on in your head. Come on, Tad, the bottom line is that -- that David wasn't after J.R. He wanted to clear his own name, and so he used Adam to do it through J.R. Let's not try to make this into something that it's not. I mean, come on, don't we have enough going on as it is? Look at me -- I'm running around town like a maniac, lying to all the people that we know about where you are. You're practically in a witness protection program hiding from some insane cop who thinks that you killed his drug-dealer son.
Tad: Yeah, well, you say that like it's a bad thing. You done?
Dixie: Tad, no. Promise me that you're not going to go run off like a madman and try to get even with David.
Tad: If I did, I don't know how you could blame me. It just never ends, Dixie. David Hayward never stops.
Dixie: I know.
Tad: And, personally, I do not understand why you aren't as outraged as I am.
Dixie: I am, but I can't afford to be. My first and only priority is to make sure that they catch whoever is after you. And then I want to make sure that your name is cleared, and then I just want you to come home with me and for us to be a family with the kids again, try to build back what we had. I don't care about David. I wish I never did. I wish the whole thing was over.
Tad: I do, too.
Dixie: Ok. Then just swear to me that you're not going to run off and try and hunt down David.
Tad: Dixie, you said it yourself. The FBI is right outside my door. I can't go anywhere, remember?
Dixie: Yeah, well, what if they weren't?
Tad: I will never do anything, ever, to risk you or the boys ever again. Trust me, ok?
Dixie: Ok.
Tad: I won't let you down.

Vanessa: But you do need me, David. You remember, you wanted me -- you asked me to help you with bribing the other judge.
David: Oh, yeah, oh, yeah. That was great, right. You lost every penny I gave you.
Vanessa: Yeah, well, I couldn't help it he died!
David: This is pointless. I need a massage and a good night's sleep, and that's exactly what I'm going to get. Pay for my drink, will you? I'm out of work and you're giving it up for Daddy Warbucks.

Vanessa: You'll be back, David. You always do come back.

Gabriel: I'm looking for Rosa, Mateo! I don't know where she is!
Mateo: I know, I know, I know. How did you get this on your hand?
Gabriel: I got to go!
Mateo: How did you get the blood on your hand? Huh? Where's the blood from? Hmm? What'd you do?
Gabriel: I didn't do anything! I swear to God, Mateo, I --
Mateo: Stay right here. Stay right here. Don't move.

Edmund: Thank you, Chief. I'll have the insurance people call you for a report in the morning. Ok, good night. Ok.

Edmund: The fire is out completely.
Ryan: I'll pay for all the damages, Edmund.
Edmund: No, you won't. It was an accident. I was sick of that damned Turret anyway.
Anna: It was your place, wasn't it, Ryan? Yours and Gillian's?
Ryan: You probably think I've lost it, saying that I was going there to wait for Gillian. I probably have. I guess I was just waiting to see if the impossible could happen again. I'm sorry.
Edmund: Ryan -- Ryan, don't apologize. Just listen to what I'm going to say. It doesn't ever go away -- the loss. It just gets diffused. But I'm not going to lie to you. I mean, there's nights that I wake up and I -- I swear I'm going to see Maria lying right next to me. And then I realize where I am and how much has happened.
Ryan: And then you wake up and realize nothing will ever be the same.
Edmund: That's it.
Anna: It was lucky that you were driving out this way tonight, Liza. Very lucky for Ryan.
Liza: Well, I just needed to get some air, and when I need air I drive. And I saw him, and I stopped.
Anna: His guardian angel. Oh, God, I'm sorry. I don't know what to say, Ryan.
Ryan: Anna, it's fine.
Edmund: Listen, I -- I'm going to get you some clothes to change into.
Anna: I'll ask Peggy to get some food for us.
Liza: No, I can't stay --
Ryan: No, I don't need anything --
Anna: Please, just stay. Let us take care of you for a few minutes. Please, just -- it's really good that you were there tonight.

Liza: I should really check my messages and make sure that Colby is doing well.

Adam's voice: Liza, my Darling, I hope your phone is off because your beautiful body is being salt-rubbed and seaweed-wrapped. I hope you're relaxed and comfortable and happy. I'm going to spend a little time with Stuart, and then I'm going to join you and we are going to make love all night long and dance under the stars. I love you. I always have. So sleep well, my Darling. I miss you.

[Liza throws her cell phone across the room]

Ryan: Tired of that phone?
Liza: Uh, I had a message from Adam telling me how much he loved me.
Ryan: You -- you said earlier that he lied to you.
Liza: Yeah. Well, I pretty much lied to myself when I married him. I wanted to believe --
Ryan: In the impossible? That's not so crazy. You-all told me so tonight. I'm sorry.
Liza: Don't be. I can handle it.
Ryan: No, I mean about what happened tonight. You know, with us. I shouldn't have been --
Liza: No, no, don't, don't. Don't. Just -- just don't.
Ryan: I was just a little out of control, Liza.
Liza: In the Turret?
Ryan: And when I found you on the road.
Liza: Well, you thought I was Gillian.
Ryan: Yeah, maybe for the first five seconds, but I knew what I was doing, Liza, and I shouldn't have brought you in like that.
Liza: So you're absolving me? Ryan, you didn't take me anywhere I didn't want to go.
Ryan: I just mean, how do we --
Liza: "Deal with this"?

Edmund so, I'll drop these off and come back.
Liza: No, no, I'm fine.
Anna: Everything ok?
Liza: Yes, I'm fine. Listen, I wanted to thank you so much for the offer of the food, but I really need to be getting home, check on my daughter.
Anna: Ok.
Ryan: I'll drive you.
Liza: I have my car.

[Phone rings]
V Edmund: Hello?
Mateo: Hey, man, it's Mateo.
Edmund: Did you find Rosa?
Mateo: Yeah. Yeah, I did. She -- she's ok, but I think you and Anna need to come down here. Gabriel's in a little bit of trouble.
Edmund: Is he all right?
Mateo: Yeah, he's not hurt or anything, but the cops are here. I think it's serious.
Edmund: We'll be right there.

Anna: What?
Edmund: Gabriel's in trouble. We have to go to the club.
Anna: Oh, what now? Are you going to be all right?
Ryan: Yeah, I'll be fine.
Anna: Ok. Good. Bye, Liza.
Liza: Bye-bye.
Edmund: We'll be in touch.

Ryan: Liza --
Liza: Ryan, I know that you feel like you should apologize or something. But please, don't.
Ryan: Ok.
Liza: Ok.
Ryan: I can still drive you home. You can come pick up your car tomorrow.
Liza: I'm fine to drive myself. You really should change your clothes.
Ryan: Liza, I --
Liza: Good night.
Ryan: Just wait, please?

Gabriel: Rosa, are you ok? What happened to you out there?
Rosa: Gabriel, I don't know.
Gabriel: Ok, I do. Don't say anything. Nothing. Do you hear me? Nothing.

Shannon: He's the one.
Rosa: He's -- he's the one what?
Shannon: I saw him leaning over Marcus' body with a bloody oar in his hands.
Rosa: Marcus' body? What are you talking about? Teo, what happened to Marcus?
Officer: You know the victim?
Rosa: Teo, what happened to Marcus?
Mateo: Someone beat him up at the boathouse tonight.
Rosa: Oh, God! Is he ok?
Officer: He was hit over the head. He's in a coma.
Shannon: He did it! Gabriel did it!
Officer: Tell me your name, your full name.
Gabriel: Don't listen to her.
Shannon: He hated Marcus. He's been threatening him for days! I'm telling you he had this bloody oar in his hands! Just look at his hand! Look at his hand!
Officer: State your name, son.
Gabriel: Gabriel Devane.
Officer: You're under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to have an attorney present. If you cannot afford an attorney but want one to be present, then an attorney will be appointed free of charge prior to questioning. Understand your rights?

Tad: You could bring me some magazines. You know, some cookies, helicopter.
Dixie: Baby, you just got to sit still. I know that's practically impossible for you, but I talked to them about bringing you a new TV. This one's a goner.
Tad: You know how many X-rated stations are on that thing?
Dixie: Do you?
Tad: Oh, yeah. I got a lot of free time in my hand.
Dixie: Well, read something. Or raid the mini bar, but don't sit around and plot revenge and don't go crawling out the window looking for David. I'm serious.
Tad: I'll be fine, ok? I'll eat bad room service and drink $8 bottles of water. It'll be a real party.
Dixie: Maybe it's a good thing that the TV is broken. The only thing that's going to be on tonight is David's case getting thrown out of court. How do you think Adam got to that judge?
Tad: Oh, who knows? You know, the mind spins.
Dixie: Yeah, I know.
Tad: I just don't like the idea of Adam ordering J.R. to lie to us.
Dixie: Well, I'm not condoning what he did, but I understand him not wanting that information to get out.
Tad: Yeah, and I hate the idea of J.R. being used like some kind of weapon. You know, between Adam and -- and Hayward, the poor kid can't win for losing. You know, you're right. Thinking about this is just going to get me on heart medication before my time. Do me a favor tonight, ok? Would you just take J.R. over to Brooke's and stay there and try to avoid the news for me?
Dixie: Yeah, I'll do that.
Tad: Good.
Dixie: Thanks for not making me crazy with worry.
Tad: Well, just try to stay calm, Honey. I'll be fine. Really. Really, I will. And J.R. needs us and obviously I can't be there, so you got to pick up the slack.
Dixie: I will. Did you see how he was with you? It was great.
Tad: Yeah.
Dixie: It was kind of like old times, remember?
Tad: The way I remembered it anyway.
Dixie: Yeah. Me, too.
Tad: Yeah. Well, you better get out of here, or I'll start making my own little rated-X movie.
Dixie: Good night, hot stuff.
Tad: Look who's talking.
Dixie: See you.

J.R.'S voice: Hayward said that he's going to tell e police everything and wreck everything for me forever.

Dixie: Hey, Sweetie, did I forget my date book? Tad? Tad? Tad? Oh, no, no. Mike? Please tell me that you actually forgot that Tad went out to the ice machine or whatever?
Mike: Are you kidding me?
Mike: The ladder of the fire escape's been let down. Stupid idiot. This is agent 67854 --
Dixie: Oh, Tad. Don't be a jerk. Please don't be a jerk.

David: Hey, Carrie. Listen, I need a really, really deep massage tonight, ok? So even if you have to walk on me with your two shoes on, it's ok because I need you to get as deep down as you possibly can, ok? Thanks.
Tad: If you ever come near me or mine again, I will kill you. You want to die? Huh?

Liza: I really should be getting home to see my daughter. I left her with my mother and --
Ryan: You don't want to talk about what happened?
Liza: We did talk about what happened. Right here.
Ryan: Not really.
Liza: What do you want me to say?
Ryan: Nothing. I just -- I haven't done anything like that since --
Liza: Before you were married?
Ryan: Yeah.
Liza: Neither have I.
Ryan: Yeah, I didn't think so.
Liza: You were in a lot of pain.
Ryan: So were you, Liza.
Liza: Your wife died.
Ryan: And your trust did. And I don't think one's any worse than the other. I just feel like maybe I -- I took advantage of you. I was in a daze, I was hurt, I started the fire, I was waiting for my dead wife to come back, and then I ran into you --
Liza: You did not take advantage of me. If anything, I did that to you.
Ryan: Why do you say that?
Liza: I -- I don't know. Liza: You know, I do know one thing. I don't regret what happened out there. I don't regret one thing about it.

Anna: Oh, Gabriel. Oh, no, what is -- what's happening here?
Gabriel: Let it go, please.
Anna: Will you tell me what's going on? Will somebody tell me what happened?
Mateo: Listen, Marcus and Gabriel had a fight, apparently, at the boathouse. Someone hit the kid in the head with an oar, and now he's in a coma.
Anna: Oh, God. My brother wouldn't do anything like that.
Gabriel: Anna, it's done.
Edmund: Gabriel, keep your mouth shut. Sir, has he had a phone call? He gets a lawyer --
Gabriel: Just leave me alone!
Anna: Are you saying that you did this?
Edmund: Not now, not now. Not now.
Anna: Gabriel, please --
Officer: Let's go. Excuse us, folks.
Anna: Could you just -- I -- I don't believe this. There has to something more to this story. Damn this town.
