ALL MY CHILDREN

AUGUST 17, 2001

Leo: So, how'd the sweep of the malls go?
Laura: Great. You want to see what I got?
Leo: Ah -- maybe later. I think you should probably take a nap, don't you think?
Laura: Leo, is my timing off?
Leo: No, I just -- you know, after a full day of shopping and maxing out credit cards, I thought that maybe -- I don't know -- I thought you might need some rest.
Laura: Is that what you're worried about -- my wild spending habits? My mom wanted to spoil me.
Leo: Yeah, well, I want to spoil you.
Laura: Well, soon we'll spoil each other. My mom told me she offered you a job at "Tempo." You going to take it?
Leo: Yeah. Entry level assistant -- whatever that is.
Laura: You know, if it doesn't sound right, she'll understand. You know, I don't think it'll hurt her feelings if you don't want to --
Leo: Laura, I took the job, ok? My decision. Nobody forced me into it.
Laura: Ok. As long as you're sure it's what you want to do.
Leo: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap.
Laura: It's ok.
Leo: No, it's not. I'm -- I'm -- I'm excited to be working for your mom. I get to learn a lot about magazines, the power of the press and whatnot. It'll be an adventure, right? Maybe I can become a restaurant critic or something.
Laura: Leo, if I ask you something, will you be honest with me even if you think it'll hurt my feelings? Where'd you go last night?

Greenlee: I'm sorry, Bianca, but now is not the best time for a girlfriend-to-girlfriend moment. And since we're not girlfriends, you won't mind if I blow you off.
Bianca: This is important, Greenlee.
Greenlee: So is my job. If I'm late back from lunch, your mother will send me to the file room for a week.
Bianca: So I'll write you a note.
Greenlee: My. Aren't we intense. Are we here on a mission?
Bianca: I just came from seeing Laura.
Greenlee: Ticker still ticking away?
Bianca: Her heart is fine, but her marriage is in trouble.
Greenlee: Why tell me?
Bianca: Because you're the problem.
Greenlee: So Laura sent you over here to scratch my eyes out by proxy?
Bianca: Laura has no idea that I'm here.
Greenlee: Ah. You just took it upon yourself to stick your honker where it doesn't belong.
Bianca: Leo is a friend of mine.
Greenlee: Then waste his time, not mine.
Bianca: Leo and I aren't so close anymore.
Greenlee: I can't say I'm surprised. You lost the toss for Laura.
Bianca: You know, he truly cares for her.
Greenlee: You don't have to sell me. I spent the afternoon listening to Leo sing his wife's praises. She's pure. She's fine. She's like morning dew on rose petals. I needed a shot of insulin when he was done.
Bianca: He cares for her, but he is in love with you. And you're in love with him.
Greenlee: Was. Here's the update. I gave Leo one last chance to make work with me, but he opted out, chose the early retirement plan with St. Laura by his side.
Bianca: He chose her for all the wrong reasons.
Greenlee: Whatever the reasons, Leo has moved on, and I've followed his act. My conscience is crystal clear. I'm not going to mess up Leo's perfect marriage.
Bianca: Why not?
Greenlee: "Why not?"
Bianca: If you love Leo, then why aren't you fighting for him, trying to get him back?

Erica: So send my best personal regards -- oh, and enclose my new signed glossy.

[Knock on door]

Brooke: Erica?
Erica: Oh.
Brooke: I'm -- I'm sorry if I'm interrupting.
Erica: No. No, no, no, Brooke. Really, we were just about to take a break, weren't we, Val?
Brooke: Are you sure?
Erica: Absolutely. This answering my fan mail -- this is a full-time job with me. I mean, you know that I answer everything myself personally.
Brooke: Very commendable.
Erica: Thank you. Ok, Val, we'll just -- we'll finish this batch later.
Val: Should I hold your calls?
Erica: Yes, please, please. Thank you. Ok. Ok, so, what can I do for you, Brooke?
Brooke: First of all, I want to thank you, you know, for all the help and support that you've given Laura and me these past few months.
Erica: Oh, no thanks necessary. How is Laura?
Brooke: Physically she's -- she's getting stronger every day.
Erica: Brooke, you hinted on the phone that there was a problem. In the form of Greenlee Smythe?
Brooke: Yes. Erica, I think you're well aware that Laura's had more than her share of bad breaks, and she does not deserve any more.
Erica: Are you saying that Greenlee Smythe is playing happy home wrecker?
Brooke: I don't know what she's doing. I just know that Laura is very vulnerable right now and she's feeling rather threatened about Greenlee's past with Leo.
Erica: And you think that Laura's marriage to Leo can't withstand that pressure?
Brooke: I'm not sure if Laura can withstand the pressure. And, of course, as her mother, I want to do anything to help protect her. I just can't do it alone.
Erica: What do you want from me, Brooke?
Brooke: I want you to get Greenlee as far from Pine Valley as possible, indefinitely.

Mia: Oh, God.
Ryan: Are you -- what happened? What was a lie?
Mia: Oh, just forget it. I just get like this when the moon's full, ok?
Ryan: That's the second time I've seen you going off on that bag.
Mia: Yeah, well, it's an outlet, Sigmund.
Ryan: Outlet for what?
Mia: It's none of your business, really.
Ryan: Ok. Ahem. Next subject. I don't know. You still leaning on Marian chandler for cash?
Mia: What?
Ryan: Liza's office. You blackmailed her mother for 5,000 to keep quiet.
Mia: Oh, boy, I picked the wrong shoulder to cry on.
Ryan: Hey, listen, Marian wanted me to get rid of you. I'm just saying I never found out what that was about.
Mia: Marian didn't want me to have what's mine. She wants me to pretend like I was never born. But you know what? I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere.
Ryan: So, what's Marian keeping from you? What's this big secret?
Ryan: Come on, Mia. I let you cry on my shoulder. The least you can do is tell me what's going on.
Mia: You know, you just -- you wouldn't get it.
Ryan: Try me.
Mia: You ever been lied to, Ryan, by someone who you thought you could trust with your life?
Ryan: Who are you talking about?
Mia: My mom.
Ryan: What, did you guys have a fight or something?
Mia: No. She's dead.
Ryan: Oh. I'm sorry.
Mia: Yeah. Me, too. She was a really cool lady, and she loved me.
Ryan: Was there a dad on the scene?
Mia: Absentee father. She said he was dead.
Ryan: Oh. That was a lie?
Mia: Yeah. Yeah.
Ryan: So he, like, deserted you guys or --
Mia: He left us. That's all that matters.
Ryan: Doesn't sound like a prince of a guy. Maybe you were better off without him. When I was growing up, believe me, there were many, many nights that I wish I was an orphan. See that punching bag over here? That was -- that's what it was like growing up in my house.
Mia: I'm sorry. You know, when we first met, I punched you. Will you forgive me?

Greenlee: I thought you flew over here to read me the riot act. You want to know why I'm not fighting for Leo.
Bianca: You guys were getting married. He still loves you. You still love him.
Greenlee: What about your precious Laura?
Bianca: She's not my Laura.
Greenlee: No, no, but she could be -- if Leo dumps her and comes back to me. Boy, oh, boy, oh, boy, oh, boy. And people think that I'm twisted.
Bianca: Laura's my friend, and she deserves better than this.
Greenlee: So you're playing the anti-marriage counselor, breaking up your best friend's marriage?
Bianca: It's already broken.
Greenlee: You know, if you really care about Laura, you should be trying to help her fix it. Go to Leo. Let him see that Laura makes your heart go pitty-pat.
Bianca: This is not about me, Greenlee.
Greenlee: Like hell it's not. You help smash Laura's marriage to smithereens, and there you are, her bestest, bestest friend, helping her pick up the pieces. Before you know it, LesBianca and Laura will be playing house, buying matching hers and hers towels.
Bianca: That is not who I am, Greenlee.
Greenlee: Oh, it's you, Babe. You are so your mother's daughter.

Erica: Do you really think that Greenlee Smythe is a threat to their marriage?
Brooke: Oh, I don't want to give you the wrong impression. Leo is devoted to Laura. He's totally faithful.
Erica: Well, then what on earth is the problem?
Brooke: I think primarily it's -- it's post-op depression for Laura. You know, she is upset a lot. She feels threatened. Any little thing sets her off. And no matter how Leo tries to reassure her, it doesn't seem to help. And, you know, she just can't seem to get Greenlee out of her thoughts.
Erica: I understand. You're saying that Greenlee has become an obsession with Laura.
Brooke: Yeah. I am sure that Leo and Laura can have a happy life together, but not as long as Greenlee is still hovering.
Erica: You think by taking Greenlee out of the picture that Laura's marriage will be happy?
Brooke: When Sarah's mother took her home to Boston, I know that Bianca was very distressed at first. But eventually she stopped dreaming of a future with her and Sarah, and then she found somebody else. But that someone isn't free. And they won't be as long as that person's marriage survives.
Erica: Well, I certainly will do everything I can to ensure that Laura's marriage is happy.
Brooke: And that problem?
Erica: Oh, that'll be handled by the end of this business day.
Brooke: I wasn't sure if I was overstepping.
Erica: Of course you are. But it doesn't really matter. Because no matter what our differences, we both will do whatever it takes to help our daughters.
Brooke: Thank you, Erica.

Erica: Val? Val. I'd like to see Greenlee Smythe just the moment she gets back from lunch. Thanks.

Leo: I took a walk, alone.
Laura: So your head's still all jammed up?
Leo: Yeah, I'm cool.
Laura: Really?
Leo: Really. Laura, you're worrying way too much about me.
Laura: Well, you're my husband. That's my job.
Leo: Yeah, well, it's not your job to make yourself even sicker than you are. That's what's going to happen if you keep stressing.
Laura: See, now you're worrying too much. Hey, wait here. I want to show you something that'll help both of us let off some steam.
Leo: All right.
Leo: Stop it.
Laura: Leo -- I bought this for you. What do you think?
Laura: I know I have a whole closet full of nighties you bought for me, but I picked this out specifically for you. What do you think? It's not too risqué?
Laura: Leo? What's wrong? You don't like it? It's the wrong color?
Leo: No. No, no, no, no, no. It's fabulous. I love it.
Laura: Really?
Leo: Really.
Laura: You know, there's a special feature with this nightgown. It slips right off. Ooh --
Leo: Oh, your bracelet. Is it ok?
Laura: Yeah, I probably just didn't fasten it properly.
Leo: Maybe the clasp is loose. Here. Let me see it.
Laura: What are you going to do with it?
Leo: I'm going to take it to the jeweler's. Maybe he can take a look at it.
Laura: You don't have to do it right now.
Leo: Well, this is your present, Laura. I want to make sure that it's flawless.
Laura: It is. And you can give me something better right now.
Leo: Laura, please, stop. Just stop it.

Bianca: I am looking out for Laura.

[Greenlee laughs]

Greenlee: Right. Tearing her marriage apart won't hurt a bit. Tell me something -- did Laura want your protection? I didn't think so. She can't face the fact that Leo doesn't love her.
Bianca: You know what? It was stupid of me to come here.
Greenlee: Why did you, Bianca? Did you really see the two of us forming a sisterhood?
Bianca: I told you why I came.
Greenlee: You're not the least bit embarrassed, are you?
Bianca: Embarrassed? About what?
Greenlee: This shameless ploy to get Laura all to yourself. I mean, look at you, pining away for someone who wouldn't love you if you were the last Lesbo on earth.
Bianca: Why are you so cruel?
Greenlee: Because you came over here expecting me to do your dirty work.
Bianca: This is not for me. Leo loves you. He wanted to marry you.
Greenlee: Leo lied to me about who he was. I can't trust him.
Bianca: Leo wasn't after your money, Greenlee.
Greenlee: Oh, right, right. Money means zip to Leo. See, he turned around and married a dying heiress.
Bianca: He didn't marry Laura for her money, either.
Greenlee: If he married her for love, you wouldn't be here. I saw Brooke give Leo a check and thanked him for the services rendered. Leo's been faking since day one.
Bianca: Why didn't you say something?
Greenlee: Who would I tell? Laura?
Bianca: It would have been so easy for you.
Greenlee: Maybe I don't want to get a man that way. Or maybe I'm tired of playing bad girl.
Bianca: It's a little late to be worried about your image, Greenlee.
Greenlee: Whatever. You're not going to use me to get Leo away from Laura. You want your dream girl to know the truth? You be the messenger.

[Phone rings]

Greenlee: Hello. Val, Val, I'm on my way.

Greenlee: Got a command performance with your mother.
Bianca: Can I ask you something, Greenlee?
Greenlee: Can I stop you?
Bianca: Doesn't it bother you to see Leo so unhappy?
Greenlee: The only person that can change that is Leo.

Liza: Ryan, I'm really glad I was able to catch up with you.
Ryan: Liza. Hey. You remember Mia.
Liza: Yes, the card hustler.
Mia: Yeah, well, that's just a sideline.
Liza: Does it pay the rent?
Mia: Well, sometimes. But, you know, if it doesn't, I just sort of fall back on my paycheck.
Liza: And how do you get paid?
Mia: Oh, I work here at the gym. I'm a trainer.
Liza: Well, that must keep you busy. Could I have a private word with Ryan?
Mia: Sure, yeah. You know, you should take one of my classes. I work wonders.

Liza: Charming.
Ryan: Yeah. So, did you calm your mother down?
Liza: I tried.
Ryan: How did you explain the kiss when she walked in on --
Liza: You know, I didn't apologize. I told her about Adam's adultery with the lady judge.
Ryan: Oh. Well, did you, you know, mention what happened with us in the woods?
Liza: No. No, no, no. I didn't go into detail, but she got the gist of it.
Ryan: Right. Well, she probably warned you to stay away from me and give Adam another chance.
Liza: Actually, my mother was very upset about Adam's behavior. She understood that I was hurt by it.
Ryan: But?
Liza: She thinks it's a mistake for me to join forces with you to get back at Adam, that it's a mistake that I will
Ryan: So, what are you saying? You want to call this off?
Liza: No way. I need you now more than ever.
Ryan: So you're not getting rid of me.
Liza: No. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't run into you after what Adam had done to me. I don't know what I would have done. I mean, I don't even remember getting in my car. I was walking around in a daze.
Ryan: Yeah.
Liza: I just know that I feel close to you. You -- you give me hope.
Ryan: Well, then, you're in deep trouble.
Liza: No, I'm serious. I think we both hit bottom at the same time, and hopefully we're going to come to the surface together.
Ryan: Liza, neither one of us know where the hell we're going.
Liza: No. No, we don't. But, you know, we just take it -- you know, you do what feels good and to hell with everything else.
Ryan: Does that mean you're leaving Adam to chance?
Liza: Oh, no. When Adam gets back from his fishing trip, I have a little surprise planned for him.
Ryan: He doesn't like surprises.
Liza: No, that's exactly why he's getting one -- because I want to see e look on his face. I want the look on his face to match the look that was on my face when I found out he broke every promise he ever made.

[Phone rings]

Liza: Hello. Adam. I was just talking about you. How's your fishing trip in Idaho? Oh, Maui is spectacular. Just -- no, just being lazy. Colby and I, we -- yeah, we miss you, too. I suppose.

Mia: Um -- did I just hear you correctly?
Ryan: What? Hear what?
Mia: Did you sleep with Liza?
Ryan: How did you hear that?
Mia: Is it true, though? I mean, did you sleep with her?
Ryan: Why do you care?
Mia: Because I thought you cared about your wife. How could you do this to her?

Greenlee: Erica, I'm here.
Erica: Greenlee, sit down.
Erica: Greenlee, you have been working at Enchantment for just under three months.
Greenlee: Seems longer. I mean, it feels like I've been here forever. Part of the team. Enchantment's my home away from home.
Erica: Yes. Well, I've been reviewing your quarterly performance. And it seems that you have some very good ideas. Original, edgy, imaginative. R&D is actually working up a prototype of White Narcissus, the fragrance that you designed, and actually they are quite enthusiastic.
Greenlee: Wow. So it's mostly good, huh?
Erica: Greenlee, when you took this job, were you aware of Enchantment's incentive program?
Greenlee: Doesn't sound familiar.
Erica: Let me tell you about it. Each year I select an employee and I reward him or her for their outstanding contributions. And this year, Greenlee Smythe, you are the winner. I hope your passport's in order because you're going to Paris tonight!
Greenlee: Say crois?
Erica: Yes, you're being transferred to the Paris office. You do parlez-vous francais, oui?
Greenlee: Oui.
Erica: Bon. Then go home and pack your bags, and you just be ready for my driver to pick you up at 8:00. He's going to have your itinerary and a list of contacts in Paris, of course, and also $10,000 in French francs.
Greenlee: $10,000?
Erica: Yes, that's your bonus. And I have an apartment on the Rue De Lac, which is yours until you find a place of your own.
Greenlee: You're moving me to Paris?
Erica: Oh, how I envy you. I mean, Paris, the city of lights, the makeup and fashion capital of the world.
Greenlee: I'd prefer New York. And it's a whole lot closer to home.
Erica: Greenlee, what are you saying?
Greenlee: I'm saying I don't want to go to gay Paris.
Erica: Greenlee, how on earth could you possibly be so ungrateful? I Mean, here I am. I'm offering you the chance of a lifetime.
Greenlee: I'm not being promoted. I'm being exiled. You want to get rid of me, Erica. I want to know why.

Brooke: Oh, Bianca. Hi. Come on in. Are you looking for somebody?
Bianca: Yeah, actually, I'm looking for Leo.
Brooke: Oh, Leo. He told you he was working here?
Bianca: He left me a message on my cell phone.
Brooke: Yeah. He hasn't started yet.
Bianca: Ok. I'll catch up with him later, then.
Brooke: Oh, you don't have to run off.
Bianca: Well, I know how busy you are.
Brooke: Well, I think I have a minute. Come on, sit down, sit down. How's your summer going?
Bianca: Pretty good. I'm not really doing much.
Brooke: Well, I guess school's going to be starting fairly soon.
Bianca: Yeah, don't remind me.
Brooke: Ok.
Bianca: Is Laura starting PVU this fall?
Brooke: Well, we haven't really discussed it, you know, because of the surgery and all.
Bianca: I just know how excited she was when she got in.
Brooke: Well, I know. It's -- it's just that her priorities have changed somewhat because she's married now.
Bianca: So, Leo's really going to work here, huh?
Brooke: Yes, he is. I think it's going to be great.
Bianca: Why do you say that?
Brooke: Well, because Leo is bright and he's quick and --
Bianca: He's bored and he's restless.
Brooke: I'm sorry?
Bianca: Are you? I really don't think you are, Brooke. I think that this is just a part of your plan.
Brooke: My plan?
Bianca: Yeah, Leo is getting jumpy, hanging around the house, feeling trapped. So you throw him a bone. You keep him busy. You distract him and hold on to him for Laura's sake.
Brooke: Bianca, I think that you are out of line.
Bianca: Good. It's about time somebody stepped out of bounds.
I mean, Leo's not going to -- not while he's chained to Laura.
Brooke: Bianca --
Bianca: Brooke, look, I don't blame you for trying to hold on to Leo. I know Laura loves him. She would be absolutely heartbroken if he left her.
Brooke: Leo is not going to leave Laura. What -- why would you even think that?
Bianca: Please. Let's not pretend that they're the world's happiest couple. You and I both know that's the biggest lie.
Brooke: Has Leo said that he's not happy?
Bianca: He doesn't have to. I can see it. So can Laura.
Brooke: Bianca, you can't really tell what's going on in a marriage from the outside. You can't. You know, and as far as that goes, Laura and Leo are still getting to know each other.
Bianca: If they had 50 years they wouldn't get it right because this -- this marriage is a deal brokered by you.
Brooke: What are you talking about?
Bianca: Brooke, I saw you giving Leo a check at their reception.
Brooke: I -- it was a wedding gift, Bianca. It was something just to help tide them over.
Bianca: Until when? Until Leo forgets about Greenlee? Until he's so indebted to you that he can't leave? Until he's so guilty for staying in a loveless marriage that his spirit is completely crushed?
Brooke: Leo is not indebted to me. It's the other way around.
Bianca: I know. I heard what you said at the reception. You said that Laura is alive because of Leo, because he told her that he loves her. How can he go back on that, Brooke? What's going to happen when Leo can't pretend anymore? How long before Laura realizes that her entire marriage is a lie? What's going to happen to her then?
Brooke: What's going to happen to Laura? Nothing. She's going to have a long and happy life with Leo.
Bianca: Brooke, I don't understand this. Why are you supporting this? Leo doesn't love Laura, not the way she needs to be loved.
Brooke: By who, you? You know, I don't want to be blunt, Bianca, but Laura doesn't want you. She wants Leo.
Bianca: So you bought him for her?
Brooke: No! I -- yes, I made Leo an offer, I did, when I was so desperate about Laura's heart condition. But he turned me down. And the wonderful thing that happened is that he found out that he had real feelings for my daughter. And he started to care for her, and he gave her hope, and he gave her the will to live.
Bianca: No. Nobody can do that for somebody, Brooke.
Brooke: Bianca, I saw it. I saw it with my own eyes. I saw Leo bring Laura back to life. Now, you tell me that that's not worth paying any price, no matter what it is. And who are you to judge? You know, have you ever lost a child? Would you do anything that you could, risk anything, to save somebody that you loved?
Bianca: I know what it's like to have my heart broken.
Brooke: So, then, how can you want that for Laura? I mean, you say you care about her? You know, you don't have a clue about what she needs.
Bianca: I know that Leo isn't right for her.
Brooke: You don't have any right to say that, and you don't have any right to interfere in her life.
Bianca: But you do because you love her, right? Well, you're not the only one.
Brooke: Leo is her husband. It's his job to love her, not yours. And if you have a problem with their marriage, you know, if you're jealous, it is your problem. It's not hers.
Bianca: I'm not jealous of their marriage.
Brooke: Bianca, the bottom line is that Laura is still recovering her health, and I am not going to have you making problems for them or -- or undoing the progress that she has made. If you cannot be happy for her, if you can't be satisfied with just being a good friend, then I think that you should get out of her life for good.

Laura: Leo, what'd I do wrong?
Leo: Nothing.
Laura: No, you just snapped at me. What was that about?
Leo: I feel --
Laura: You feel -- you feel what?
Leo: I feel like we're playing dress up! Pretending to be married, like it's not real.
Laura: Of course it's real. This is your house. I'm your wife.
Leo: How did we get here, Laura?
Laura: I don't understand.
Leo: That day in the park -- do you remember that? When we were goofing around, just before your transplant? You know, acting like little kids, playing on the swings, making sand castles. Do you remember that? It seemed like a million years ago.
Laura: I was so happy.
Leo: Because you were being you. You weren't pretending to be happy, Laura. You just were.
Laura: Did we lose that? Is that what you're saying? You want to get back to that? I'm getting stronger every day.
Leo: But it's not your job to keep things lively. You're not the entertainment committee, all right? Every single moment doesn't have to be about something. We don't have to plan everything.
Laura: Ok, I get it. I'm being too obvious. I'm coming on too strong.
Leo: No, you -- it's just not you. It's you acting like you're trying to be like Greenlee or something.
Laura: I can't compete with her.
Leo: I don't want you to, Laura. That's not what I want. That is so not what I want.
Laura: What do you want, Leo? Do you want me?
Leo: I want you and me to be like we were in the park, to take each day as it comes. I want the Laura that made every moment seem like it was her last. Joyous. Spontaneous. That's the Laura that I fell in love with.
Laura: This marriage bit is a little confusing.
Leo: Yeah, I know. It's new territory for the both of us.
Laura: We can try to get at it together.
Leo: Yeah, we can do that. But we have to let each other be free to be ourselves.

Erica: For heaven's sakes, Greenlee. Why would I go to all that trouble, all that expense, if I wanted to get rid of you? All I'd have to do is fire you.
Greenlee: Erica, our deal was if I messed up on the job, I had to leave town for good. But I haven't messed up. So you can't send me packing to Siberia.
Erica: Please. Paris is hardly the frozen tundra.
Greenlee: It's banishment in any language.
Erica: It's a golden opportunity is what it is.

Val: Excuse me, Erica. This call came in when you were in conference with Brooke English.
Erica: Thank you, Val.

Greenlee: A golden opportunity? For who -- Brooke? Is the whole world in on this plot?
Erica: Plot? What plot?
Greenlee: You know, I've never been popular, but all of a sudden everyone wants something from me. You want me to disappear, Brooke wants me deported, and Bianca --
Erica: Bianca?
Greenlee: She was the reason I was late. Your daughter wants me to fight for Leo, trash his marriage, so Laura can get in touch with her hidden lesbian.
Erica: Oh, that's enough, Greenlee. That is enough.
Greenlee: Enough? Oh, no. I'm just getting warmed up.

Ryan: Don't talk to me about Gillian.
Mia: Why not?
Ryan: Because you didn't know her.
Mia: Well, I didn't know my dad, but I told you about him, didn't I?
Ryan: I'm not talking to you about this.
Mia: Excuse me. I thought we were getting to know each other here.
Ryan: Well, that doesn't give you the right to judge me.
Mia: That's not what I'm doing. I know you're devastated.
Ryan: So, what does this have to do with you?
Mia: Nothing. I just think --
Ryan: You just what?
Mia: Well, I just think that, you know, maybe it's a little soon to be sleeping with someone else.
Liza: You told her?
Mia: Yeah. Yeah, he told me. What's it to you?
Ryan: No, I did not tell her. She overheard us.
Liza: So you were eavesdropping?
Mia: Yeah, yeah, that's it. My life is so empty, I have to fill it with other people's sad, little melodramas.
Liza: Who the hell do you think you are?

Marian: Oh, my God, I'm too late. Oh, Liza. Please forgive me. Please. I'm so sorry. I'm so -- I'm so very, very sorry.
Marian: Liza, I didn't want you to find out like this. I -- I know I should have told you the truth right from the start, but I didn't know how you were going to react when you found out that you had a sister. And I was afraid to tell you.
Liza: Sister? What are you talking about?
Marian: But --
Liza: That -- that's my sister?

Erica: Bianca and Laura are friends. They are just friends.
Greenlee: Believe what you want to, but shipping me out of the country is not going to keep Laura a happily married woman.
Erica: You have such an amazing amount of gall.
Greenlee: It's called self-preservation. I learned a long time ago that no one's going to take care of me but me. I'm staying right here.
