ALL MY CHILDREN

AUGUST 23, 2001

Greenlee: I told you to fix this, Leo. It's not fixed.
Leo: Greenlee, do your temper tantrums ever work with anyone?
Greenlee: I told you I was not going to take this transfer to Paris which suddenly out of the freaking blue materialized. Now you tell your mother-in-law to tell Erica not to do this to me, Leo.
Leo: Greenlee, this is the second time you've felt the need to storm me to see me about this and it's so not my problem.
Greenlee: You have to do something.
Leo: No, I have to work.
Greenlee: Work?
Leo: Yes, work. You know where the door is. You just burst through it, remember?
Greenlee: You're working here now? Oh, please. Did the little woman tell Mommy to give you a little job?

Marian: How are you, Darling?
Liza: Oh. I'd like a vodka martini.
Marian: In the middle of the day?
Liza: It's been a hell of a day.
Marian: Oh, did you see Mia?
Liza: No, but when I do see her, I'm taking her for a blood test to prove she's not who she says she is.
Marian: Why would she take a blood test if she isn't who she says she is?
Liza: $100,000.
Marian: What?
Liza: Mother, look, the money is not the important thing. Putting your mind at ease and mine? That is, and then she can just disappear.
Marian: This is outrageous.
Liza: Mother, no, it's not.
Marian: Liza, she really is --
Liza: Mother, I don't want to talk about it. Thank you. I just want to drink my drink.
Marian: You heard from Adam?
Liza: Uh-uh. You heard from Stuart?
Marian: No, they're at some valley in Idaho where the cell phones don't work.
Liza: Good.
Marian: Stuart calls whenever he gets near a pay phone. Doesn't Adam call you?
Liza: Oh, I conveniently miss his calls.
Marian: Isn't he getting suspicious?
Liza: I don't know. I don't care.
Marian: You're still going to go through with this revenge thing?
Liza: No, mother, Ryan isn't really interested.
Marian: In you?
Liza: He's not interested in much of anything. He reminded me, you know, that his wife has been shot and killed and that if I loved Adam or thought there was y future for our marriage that I should forgive him and I should move on.
Marian: With Adam? After what he did?
Liza: Don't you think it might be a good thing?
Marian: Oh, I don't know. I mean, I think it's easier said than done, don't you?
Liza: I don't know. You know, I was thinking about what Ryan said. I mean, what if Adam and I could push past this and we could have a life together? What if there is a future for the two of us?

Man: Well, what are you waiting for? I mean, I found the Devane kid and his tamale. I can do the thing we talked about right now.
Warren: Orrin, my friend, I just want you to sit tight. Both of these little brats come from families with connections.
Orrin: What kind of connections?
Warren: Powerful connections. I have to be very, very careful.
Orrin: All right, what the hell do you want me to do?
Warren: Pay attention.

Bianca: Before you guys ran off from the police, didn't they do background checks, talk to your family? I mean, nobody would really believe that Rosa was in on this.
Gabriel: No, but they would think Gabriel was.
Bianca: But you said that Edmund was there. He would've stood up for you and your sister.
Gabriel: It doesn't matter. Look, the police know what they want and what they want is me.
Bianca: Because you were the one who found Marcus? And Shannon saw you and told the police that you did it? Rosa, were you there? Guys, what am I missing here?
Rosa: Bianca, if I tell you something, you swear you won't tell anybody?
Bianca: Of course. I swear.
Rosa, I've known you for a really long time. You were my friend when I used to visit from Seattle to see my mom. I would never do anything to hurt you or tell anybody --
Rosa: Marcus -- Marcus tried to rape me.
Bianca: My God. Rosa, I'm so sorry.
Rosa: I wanted to, you know, at first. But then he changed. He turned completely different and -- I don't know how, I brushed him off and I ran. Gabriel knew that I had gone there with him, so he thought that I was the one that --
Bianca: Who hurt Marcus.
Rosa: Yeah. And that's how we ended up in this mess.
Bianca: Rosa, after what Marcus did to you, if you were the one who hurt him, that would be called self-defense.
Rosa: No, Bianca, Bianca, I didn't. I swear to you I didn't -- I didn't touch him. Look, will you do me a favor?
Bianca: Sure.
Rosa: Can you call the hospital and see how Marcus is?
Bianca: Did they say that there was a chance he wouldn't make it? You know, if he makes it, he can clear both of you guys of this.
Rosa: I hope he doesn't make it. I know that it's a sin, but I hope -- I hope he dies.

Edmund: Shannon, are you all right?
Shannon: I -- I'm -- Marcus -- he -- he came out of it? He's not in a coma anymore?
Edmund: That's what I said. And the first thing he said is that he wants to tell everyone what happened that night.
Shannon: Oh, God. Did he tell you?
Edmund: Yes, he told us, Shannon.
Shannon: Oh, no. I have to see Marcus -- like right now!
Anna: I'm sorry, you can't go in there.
Shannon: But Mr. Grey, he told me that Marcus was talking and I have to go in there and see him.
Anna: No, it's not possible. The patient is -- he's very upset and, well, I really can't allow it. I already explained that to Mr. Grey.
Edmund: Yes, yes, you did, Dr. Marick.
Shannon: What did Marcus say? I mean, why -- I mean, I know why he was upset. He was in a coma, but did he say, you know --
Anna: What happened the night he was attacked? Yes.
Shannon: Oh, my God.
Anna: I had to sedate him.
Shannon: You did?
Anna: But he will be able to give a statement to the police when they come here. So it's just as well that you stay, considering --
Shannon: I didn't mean to hurt him so bad. I just -- I didn't want him to die or anything like that. I -- be in a coma for, like, the rest of his life. You believe me, don't you?
Anna: Yes.
Edmund: Why don't you just tell us the whole story?
Shannon: Um -- I followed them to the boathouse. I knew Marcus was going to try to make a move on Rosa.
Edmund: So that made you jealous?
Shannon: He was just with me the night before. I mean, how could anyone do that to someone? But Marcus, he -- Rosa -- Rosa didn't want him that way. She's, like, really inexperienced. So she fought him off. Then she ran away and I went after him and I told him he was mean and disgusting. I was just so mad, I didn't know what I was doing.
Edmund: So you fought. And then you hit him with the boat oar?
Shannon: I had to. I mean, he was so mad at me for following him and probably so mad that Rosa fought him off. I knew he was going to start hitting me again. He'd done that a lot before. And grabbed me and he was hurting me. And I reached bend me and I grabbed this old oar and I -- I hit him as hard as I could. I didn't mean to hurt him so bad. I just -- I was so scared and -- I'm really sorry. I just -- I keep coming here because I feel so bad.
Edmund: Ok, ok. It's going to be ok. It's going to be ok, Shannon.

Bianca: Yes. Yes, thank you. Well, the nurse said that there was no change. So I guess that means that Marcus is still in a coma. You guys are safe for now.
Rosa: Safe? Look at us, Bianca.
Bianca: I guess I meant that relatively. Look, I'm sorry. I'm just trying to be positive for you guys.
Rosa: You know, if Marcus dies, they're going to charge us with murder.
Gabriel: We won't be here.
Bianca: Gabriel, I don't think it's a good idea for you guys to just take off. Besides, you didn't do it and that's going to come out. It has to.
Rosa: No, but my sister Julia, she didn't do anything. She didn't do anything wrong except she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. And now she's in the witness protection program. I never see her. My mom -- she cries constantly about her and Maria. You know, if something happens to me, too, I don't -- I don't know that my mom -- she could handle it.
Bianca: Do you want me to check on her, Rosa? It's ok, don't worry, I'll be careful. And besides, I'm a friend of the family. It's not going to look strange or anything.
Bianca: Rosa, can I get you something? Ok. Well, I should get going. If I don't get back to the things that I'm supposed to be doing, people e going to start to wonder.

Gabriel: Yeah, you should go. Look, I'll take care of her.
Bianca: Watch her, Gabriel. She's really not handling this well, and now that I know what that pig did to her, I just --
Gabriel: Yeah, I'll be careful with her, Bianca. Thank you for everything you've done.
Bianca: It's no problem. Just don't do anything sudden.
Gabriel: Like what?
Bianca: Like -- like try to run off or something. You're fine here for now, ok? Ok.

Bianca: Rosa, I'm going to take off now.
Rosa: Please tell my mom I'm fine.
Bianca: I will.

Gabriel: Do you want me to run you a hot bath or something?
Rosa: Yeah, sure. Gabriel: Ok, I'll get it
started for you.

Liza: I don't know. Maybe I can't forgive him. It's just too --
Marian: Too hard?
Liza: Yeah.
Marian: Maybe it's easier to stay angry, Liza.
Liza: Don't you think I have a right?
Marian: Oh, Darling, of course. You've got a right to be absolutely furious. But if you love him, as you just said you did, you think it's wise to throw it all away because of your pride?
Liza: I think this is a little bit more than j just my pride.
Marian: Oh, is it?
Liza: Mother, he's a liar. His word means nothing. Those are loyal qualities in a husband.
Marian: Liza?
Liza: Yes?
Marian: There's something I want to give you.
Liza: Hmm. A magic wand to make this disaster disappear?
Marian: Well, it could do something along that line. Here.
Liza: This is the angel pin.
Marian: Yes. Liza: I remember this.
Marian: Do you remember why he gave it to me?
Liza: No. Not really.
Marian: You were still a baby and my mother had died and I was absolutely devastated. Nothing anybody could say made me feel any better. I just missed her terribly. And Larry was at a loss as to what to do to help me. So one night he was walking by a jewelry store window on his way home and he saw it in the window and went in and bought it, even though he didn't have money to afford it, and he came home and he said, "Marian, every time you look at this, I want you to realize your mother's looking down on you and smiling and protecting you." You know, my heart just about burst, and he was right, it really did help me. And now I want you to have it. I want you to remember your father that way because that's the way your father was.
Liza: Thank you, Mama.
Marian: You're welcome, Darling. Oh, it just kills me to see you in so much pain.
Liza: Do you mind if we cut this short?
Marian: Of course not. Where you going?
Liza: I'm going to go and see Ryan.
Marian: Why?
Liza: Well, he was the one who encouraged me to keep the door open to talk to Adam and I gave him a hard way to go and I want to tell him I was wrong.
Marian: Liza, please be careful, will you please?
Liza: Mother, he is a good friend. I mean, I know you can't see that because, you know, he and I --
Marian: Darling, you have both been deeply wounded. Please, please just be careful, ok?
Liza: Thank you for the pin. I'll take care of it.

Mia: I want to talk to you.
Marian: My God, have you been eavesdropping?
Mia: No, I said I want to talk to you.
Marian: What's there to say, Mia?
Mia: A lot. And it's important.

Leo: Out. I mean it, Greenlee. Get the hell out of here.
Greenlee: You know, I am not going to Paris because Brooke thinks you can't be faithful to Laura if I'm on the west side of the Atlantic.
Leo: Do you know how lucky you are? Do you know how many people would kill for an opportunity like that?
Greenlee: What, you want me to go?
Leo: I want this constant arguing to stop!
Greenlee: So you don't want me to go?
Leo: I want you to go away, yeah.
Greenlee: From here now or to Paris?
Leo: Greenlee!
Greenlee: Leo --
Leo: Just get off my back! Go to Paris, don't go to Paris! I don't care!
Greenlee: I'll go when I want to go and not before, ok?
Leo: I don't care!
Greenlee: Oh, you care. You want to know how I know you care?

[Leo sighs]

Leo: Fine, Greenlee. Tell me how you know.
Greenlee: Because you're miserable. You made dumb choices and now you're stuck with them and you hate them, and you're too proud to admit it to me because you can't handle that I've moved on.
Leo: Oh, this is "moved on"? God, I'd hate to see "stuck in a rut."
Greenlee: I'm not going to be told what to do by Brooke English.
Leo: Well, then talk to Brooke English, Greenlee. But please leave me out of it.
Greenlee: No. No, I'm not going to do that because you're right smack-dab in the middle of it, Leo, and I'm not letting you off the hook. Am I making myself clear, you little chicken?

Mia: Thank you for not going.
Marian: I'm just curious about one thing.
Mia: What I want to talk to you about?
Marian: No, how can you look at yourself in a mirror, knowing you have extorted money from me and my daughter?
Mia: I'm not extorting. Your daughter offered to pay me.
Marian: Liza is very upset right now. And when she finds out that you are her sister, it's going to tear her apart.
Mia: You know, my father didn't do anything to Liza. If anything, he betrayed you.
Marian: No, he betrayed both of us -- Liza and me. Now he may have had a good reason for what he did, but the repercussions could be damaging.
Mia: Marian, how come you never asked me to take a blood test?
Marian: Because from the moment I saw you, I knew it was true.
Mia: How?
Marian: You have his eyes, you have his smile.
Mia: I never smile.
Marian: Not very much. But it's really remarkable, really, the resemblance. The way you hold your head, the look you have in your eyes right now.
Mia: How do I look now?
Marian: Lost, just like Larry did most of the time because of me. So, what do you want to talk about? I assume you want more money.
Mia: It's not about money.
Marian: Oh, really? That's quite a refreshing change, coming from you.
Mia: I -- I want to know things.
Marian: About your father?
Mia: Yeah. Like -- I don't know. Well, am I like him or is he -- I mean, not just genetically, not my eyes or my smile, but am I like him inside? Please, Marian, just tell me.
Marian: All right, Mia. What's going on now, hmm?

[Knock on door]

Ryan: Not now, Steven. You're back.
Liza: And I'm not Steven.
Ryan: Nope.
Liza: I just wanted to come by to thank you for your perspectives on love and relationships and for not being so black and white with me.
Ryan: Well, I kind of went off on you and I'm sorry about that. It's -- it's just I'm always thinking about Gillian and about all the time that we've lost together and I can't wrap my head around walking away from something that works at the core, if not on the -- if not on the outside, you know?
Liza: I know. That's why I'm going to talk to Adam when he gets back from his trip with Stuart.
Ryan: Going to give him a chance to explain?
Liza: Yeah, I'm going to listen. I don't know how I'll take what I hear, but --
Ryan: Well, that's good.
Liza: You're amazingly strong, with everything that you've had to deal with, experiencing such loss.
Ryan: It's not strength, Liza. I just -- I don't feel anything anymore.
Liza: Oh, I think you do. I think you're afraid you're not supposed to. I really care about you.
Ryan: I care about you, too. Even though I said I wanted you out of my life before, I -- I didn't mean that.
Liza: I know. No, I know I -- my mother gave something about 15 minutes ago and I thought that I would give it to you instead.
Ryan: Well, what is it?
Liza: My father gave it to my mother after her mother died and he said that every time she looked at it that she would know that her mother was looking over her. And so my mother gave it to me and I thought that I would give it to you.
Ryan: Liza, are you crazy?
Liza: I hope not.
Ryan: Well, I can't take that. It's a family heirloom or something.
Liza: No, no. Neither one of us needs it. But I think that you do. You've been a good friend to me. Just let me do this for you.

Mia: I know you don't have a lot of reasons to trust me, Marian, but I want to be on the level about this. I want to know what my father was like.
Marian: Didn't your mother tell you about him?
Mia: No. The pain of his death was too much for her to handle.
Marian: Must have made you very angry.
Mia: Yeah, wouldn't it make you angry?
Marian: Yes, but I think your mother had a reason. She was trying to protect you, just like I was trying to do with Liza. Also, I feel that I caused part of this to happen.
Mia: You mean with the affair.
Marian: Yes, I wasn't much of wife to Larry much of the time. I don't know why I'm telling you all this.
Mia: Because you're a good person. Maybe you're hoping I am, too.
Marian: I haven't made a decision about you either way, Mia. But it must have been very difficult for you, knowing that your father chose to live with another family over living with you. You deserved better than that.
Mia: Oh, Marian, it's starting to sound like you don't really hate me.
Marian: I don't hate you
Mia: Then why are you trying to ph me out of town ever since I found you?
Marian: For the same reason your mother kept the truth from you -- to protect my child.

[Phone rings]

Mia: Uh, give me a sec.
Hi. I thought you were fishing.
Adam: Forget about me. Where are you?
Mia: I'm at the S.O.S. Are you back already?
Adam: Too crowded there. Meet me -- where are you staying?
Mia: I'm staying on the Fidelity, but I --
Adam: Oh, good grief, has the grieving widower moved you in already? Anyway, I'm on my way back and want a full report on your little homework assignment.
Mia: Which one?
Adam: Don't be coy with me, Mia. Your only priority is working off your gambling debt by going after David Hayward the way I told you to.
Mia: Actually, there's been a little change in plans.
Adam: Excuse me? You owe me a $100,000, young lady.
Mia: I know. I'm going to pay it to you when I see you, in full.
Adam: Meet me at the Fidelity in 10 minutes.
Mia: No, I can't do that.
Adam: You will do that.

Mia: Bill collectors. Very diligent people these days.
Marian: Well, I suppose you have a lot of those.
Mia: Not anymore.

Rosa: What are you reading?
Gabriel: I found it in the drawer in the nightstand.
Rosa: It's the Bible.
Gabriel: Yeah, my mom used to read it to me. I remember that. It always made me feel safe. Do you want me to read you some?
Rosa: Yeah, ok.
Gabriel: Ok. "The lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures. He leadeth me beside the still water. He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me in the path of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death --"
Rosa: "I will fear no evil."
Gabriel: I won't let anything happen to you, Rosa. I promise you, I will not leave you.
Rosa: Ok.
Gabriel: Do you think you're going to be able to sleep tonight?
Rosa: Yeah.
Yeah, I should try.
Rosa: You won't leave, will you? You promise?
Gabriel: I'll be right here.

Jack: Ok, let me see if I've got this straight -- you're saying that Shannon there has admitted to attacking Marcus?
Anna: Mm-hmm.
Edmund: He was abusing her, Jack. Can you help her with that?
Jack: Well, maybe if I can get a straight answer out of the girl. Now, has she agreed to recant the story she told the cops about Gabriel hitting Marcus?
Anna: She said so, yeah.
Jack: Let me see what I can do. Hello, Shannon. You remember me, right?
Shannon: You're Bianca's uncle, the lawyer.
Jack: That's right. And from what I understand, you just might have need of a lawyer.
Shannon: You hate me. Why would you want to help me?
Jack: I don't hate you. I hate what you did to my niece. But even more than that, I hate what I understand was going on between you and Marcus. If you're honest with me, I think I can help you.
Shannon: I really wasn't trying to kill him.
Jack: That's a good start.
Shannon: I just didn't want him to mess me up again. I -- Marcus used to hit me all the time, Mr. Montgomery. It just -- I knew it had to stop, so I stopped him.

Christine: Warren? That tramp is implicating our son. Shannon. I'm at the hospital. She's telling some man that Marcus beat her and that she's the one who hit him. It sounds like self-defense to me. Yes, come quickly. And bring a lawyer.

Anna: No telephones permitted in the hospital, Ma'am.
Christine: I'm so sorry.
Edmund: Who needs a lawyer, Mrs. Dunn? Your son?
Christine: Excuse me. You are?
Anna: Gabriel Devane's sister.
Edmund: You seemed pretty nervous about legalities, Mrs. Dunn. Your son's in there fighting for his life. I should think that would take precedence.
Christine: You have no idea what I'm going through. And now I hear somebody else lying about my son, Marcus?
Shannon: Mrs. Dunn, I'm not lying, I swear.
Christine: Shannon, you shouldn't even be here.
Shannon: I know you don't want to hear this, Mrs. Dunn, but Marcus -- he was slapping me, punching me for months.
Christine: Shannon, you have been lying since the day you learned how to speak. And -- and my son broke up with you very peacefully and you seem unable to accept it.
Shannon: He woke up and he told them all what happened.
Christine: Marcus woke up?
Anna: Oh, no. I'm sorry, Mrs. Dunn. He didn't.
Christine and Shannon: What?
Shannon: You tricked me?
Edmund: Shannon, the truth had to come out.
Christine: How could you have done this? And you're a doctor. Obviously, she has been forced to speak out of fear.
Shannon: I hate that they lied to me, but it's true, Mrs. Dunn, he did hit me.
Christine: Shannon, keep quiet right now. Excuse me.

Rosa: Marcus, I'm sorry. Marcus, I don't think that I can do this.
Marcus: Rosa, relax. Please relax.
Rosa: I'm sorry, I just got way ahead of myself.
Marcus: Just come here.
Rosa: Wait, I don't want to -- Marcus --
Marcus: I said come here.
Rosa: Marcus, wait. Marcus --
Marcus: Just lie back. It's ok.
Rosa: Please, Marcus, what are -- oh, please, Marcus, I don't want to do this, please!
Marcus: Don't worry.
Rosa: Don't, Marcus, please! No, no, no, no!

Gabriel: It's ok. It's ok. It's ok. It's ok. It's ok.

Leo: You know, Greenlee, this particular hissy fit that you're throwing today has nothing to do with Laura, or me for that matter. It's all about it you. Which is no surprise because everything in your universe is about you.
Greenlee: What?
Leo: You want to blame me because you signed your life away on some contract where Erica actually has the right to send you to Paris? Or Bora Bora or Bosnia if she wants to? You're just mad because you were so stupid to sign it in the first place.
Greenlee: What did you call me?
Leo: Stupid. And weak and totally dependent and a poser who acts like she has this wonderful career when she actually has nothing.
Greenlee: What does that make you?
Leo: An idiot for ever thinking that I could love you.
Greenlee: Thinking? Like you didn't? Like you don't?
Leo: Greenlee, how could I love you? You're pathetic.

Ryan: Liza, thank you. Thank you for this pin and -- well, for this, you know.
Liza: Ryan, it's ok. I don't want anything from you. I don't even want you to help me get back at Adam.
Ryan: Just I -- I care about you.
Liza: We're friends.
Ryan: Yes.
Liza: And I suppose if we had met at a different time --
Ryan: Different place.
Liza: Mm-hmm. Who knows what we would be to each other.
Ryan: We could've ended up hating each other.
Liza: Mm-hmm. Or not.
Ryan: Or not.
Liza: Yeah. I should go.
Ryan: And you're sure you want me to have this pin?
Liza: Yes.
Ryan: Thank you. I mean it, thank you for everything. You're an amazing woman.

Greenlee: You know what I have on you. You think I won't use it to mess up this phony fairy tale life you're leading?
Leo: Greenlee, in order for you to have any power over me, I'd have to care.
Greenlee: And you don't?
Leo: Not one bit.
Greenlee: You are so full of it.
Leo: And you're so desperate, it's embarrassing.
Greenlee: I'm not desperate. But you are -- for me.

Anna: How can you stand yourself?
Christine: You don't know anything about me at all.
Anna: Your son is violent towards women and you're aware of it.
Christine: I'm aware of no such thing.
Anna: And then you attack this girl that you've known her whole life for something that your son did. I don't get it.
Christine: You don't get much.
Anna: Well, I'll tell you one thing -- my brother isn't taking the rap for any of it.

Shannon: Mr. Dunn.
Warren: Shannon. You changed your story, didn't you?
Shannon: I was tricked. I -- I didn't mean to --
Warren: Do I have to remind you that your father's livelihood depends on me? What do you think you and the rest of your parasitic family would do without my help?
Shannon: I didn't mean for it to come out. It just did. I --

Warren: Shh, shh, shh. Don't say anything, Shannon. Just be quiet and listen to me. Do exactly as I say and everything will be just fine.

Gabriel: It's ok. Just go to sleep. Just go to sleep. Just go to sleep. Everything's going to be ok.

Officer: Get your hands in the air!
Rosa: Gabriel --
Officer: You're under arrest.

Mia: Well, I got to go.
Marian: But I thought you wanted me to talk to you about your father.
Mia: I know, but this phone call -- I got to follow up with it. So will you talk to me again?
Marian: I don't know. Liza's going through a very rough time right now.
Mia: Yeah, I know her husband cheated on her.
Marian: So you really were eavesdropping on us.
Mia: No, I really don't care. I mean, her husband screwed her over, her father let her down, and I'm supposed to think that gives her an excuse to not act like a human? I'm her sister. She has to deal with that, and with me.
Marian: Don't you dare judge Liza. You don't even know her.
Mia: She's judging me and she doesn't know me at all.
Marian: Look, she's going through a very difficult time right now. Maybe if she and Adam work this thing out, she'll probably get right back to herself again.

[Adam walks in on Liza and Ryan in bed]

ON THE NEXT - - - - ALL MY CHILDREN Hayley: I've got some news about the baby.

Greenlee: I'll kiss you again. I'll wear down your resistance. I'll do it in front of your wife.

Mia: Let's put you out of your misery.

Liza: Ryan didn't seduce me. I wanted him.
