ALL MY CHILDREN

DECEMBER 24, 1999

Jake: The tornado destroyed everything, including all the family heirloom Christmas ornaments that Tad and Tara and I made when we were kids. Mom cries every time she thinks about it.
Gillian: Make new memories.

Eugenia: I'm so happy that Jake is part of Gillian's life. It will help her immeasurably to get her health back.
Jake: Be right back. Dad, I'm going to run off and get Colby. I'll be right back.
Joe: Ok.
Ryan: Hey.
Jake: Hey. Ryan: I was just at the hospital. They said that Gillian was here.
Jake: Yeah, yeah, she is. Come on in.
Ryan: I'm not going to be staying long.
Jake: That's all right. Just make yourself at home.
Ryan: All right. Thanks.
Joe: I smell something good. Ruth and Becca are baking some of grandma Kate's famous sugar cookies. Would you care to help decorate them?
Eugenia: I would love to.
Joe: Ok, they're right in the kitchen.
Eugenia: This way?
Joe: Yes.

Ryan: I guess if you're here, it means that you're ok.
Gillian: Yeah. Um -- test results were all negative. I'm going to be ok.
Ryan: That's great, Princess. It's great. Makes a guy believe in Christmas.

[Music plays]

Woodruff: Are you expecting someone? Ryan Lavery, perhaps?
Greenlee: I'm waiting for Leo Du Pres. There he is.

Vanessa: Oh, Palmer, darling, you really should take your scarf off. I don't want you getting overheated.
Palmer: Oh, scarf on, scarf off.
Vanessa, I'm not an invalid, you know.
Vanessa: Really, darling, it's your first trip out of the hospital. I don't want you having a relapse. That would kill me. It really would.
Leo: Look who's here.

[Telephone rings]

Vanessa: David at church on Christmas Eve. Well.

David: Where are you now?
Erica: Somewhere high over the eastern seaboard.
David: Any chance you'll get back here in time for the service?
Erica: Only if I hitch a ride on Santa's sleigh.
David: Well, it's a good thing you got to see Bianca. Just get back safely, all right?
Erica: Well, I'm doing my best. Merry Christmas, David.
David: Likewise.

Alex: Dimitri told me that there was such a special atmosphere here at Christmas. Edmund: Family meant everything to Dimitri. Hello, Rosa.
Rosa: Hi, Edmund.
Mateo: Hey.
Alex: Hi.
Rosa: How are you doing?
Alex: Very well, thank you.
Rosa: The music's lovely, Edmund. This was Maria's favorite. It makes me feel like she's really with us again.
Alex: I know how you feel.
Mateo: Sit down.

Adrian: Hey.
Mateo: Hey. I thought you were going to the Martins'.
Adrian: Actually, I'm on my way. I thought you were going to see Max in Texas.
Mateo: Yeah, I'm taking the redeye. I wanted to escort my sister to the service.
Adrian: Yeah. Maybe you'll see Hayley here.
Mateo: I'm not going to see Hayley here. Why would I?
Adrian: Because she knows that you always come here for Christmas service.
Mateo: Well, she doesn't want to see me. Anyway, listen, I left all the numbers at S.O.S. --
Adrian: I got all the notes. I'm cool on everything. All right? You just have a good Christmas. Enjoy yourself.
Mateo: You, too.
Adrian: Merry Christmas.
Mateo: Merry Christmas.

[Music plays]

Hayley: God, grant me the strength to change the things I can.
Amanda: Can you believe me? I almost forgot it.
Hayley: What?
Amanda: Tim called and asked if we'd hung the Christmas angel, and we haven't.
Hayley: Oh, well, I know how important that angel is in this house.
Amanda: Whoever hangs it gets to make a wish, and then it comes true for sure.
Hayley: For sure, huh? What are you going to wish for this year?
Amanda: This year, you're going to make the wish.
Amanda: Now, you can't tell anyone what you wished for until it comes true.
Hayley: Well, Amanda, you will be the first to know. Hey.
Trevor: Hey.
Hayley: Where's Janet?
Amanda: She volunteered to help clean up at "The Nutcracker."
Trevor: Yeah, I wonder what's keeping her so long, huh?

Janet: Amanda's the most important thing in the world to me. She looked so happy, so pretty up there. I couldn't let you hurt her. I had to stop you. What else could I do? I didn't mean to hurt you. Janet: Oh, my God. Oh, my God, I've killed you. Oh, no. I'll never see Amanda and Trevor again. They'll put me away forever.
Janet: I can't let them do that.

Carolers: Glory to the newborn king
Junior: Dad, are you ok?
Adam: [As Stuart] Oh, I'm not your dad, junior. I'm your Uncle Stuart.
Junior: But I --
Tad: It's ok, pal. It's an honest mistake. Merry Christmas, Stuart.
Dixie: Yes, Merry Christmas.
Brooke: Merry Christmas.
Dixie: Where are you going with Colby?
Adam: Oh, well, we were just going outside to look at the lights on t house. I never realized what they cost every year to put up. Well, it's worth it because they're fun to look at.

Jake: Merry Christmas!
Brooke: Oh, Merry Christmas.
Jake: Hi, my little munchkin. How are you?
Adam: What are you doing here, Jake?
Jake: Didn't Liza tell you? Colby's going to spend her first Christmas with the Martins. You can come over, too, if you want. You're more than welcome.
Dixie: Yeah.
Junior: Yeah, come on, Uncle Stuart.
Jake: Call up Marian. She can come over, too.
Adam: No, no, no. I, uh -- I don't know where Marian is. Ok. Ok, I'll come. I'll come with you and Colby and Junior.

Ryan: Remember when I told you I was going to bring something back for you from New York
Gillian: Beagles?
Ryan: Right beagles. Ah, beagles. Lots of them. Here you go.
Gillian: I meant "bagels."
Ryan: Yes, I know you did. And I got those, too.
Eugenia: Gillian. Gillian, darling, you must try one of these. They taste exactly as if they were baked by our pastry chef in Vadzel.
Becca: Oh, I'm so sure.
Ryan: Oh, my, I think I'll have one of those, too.

[Doorbell rings]

Becca: Oh, I'll get it. Hey.
Scott: Merry Christmas.
Becca: Merry Christmas to you.
Scott: Hey. Merry Christmas.
Joe: Merry Christmas.
Ryan: Merry Christmas.
Scott: Merry Christmas. So, you ready to go?
Becca: Oh, yes.
Scott: Great.
Becca: I just got compared to a European chef, so I'm leaving on a high.
Joe: Aren't you going to stay for eggnog?
Scott: Thank you, but actually, we're heading over to a service at Wildwind.
Joe: Oh.
Scott: So we can't.
Joe: Well, Ruth will be disappointed. But give our best wishes to Edmund and to Alex.
Becca: Oh, thank you so much for your hospitality.
Joe: Well, it was wonderful having you.
Becca: Thanks.

Ryan: Yeah, well, I guess -- I guess I better hit the road, too.
Becca: Oh, hey, Ryan, do you want to go with us?
Ryan: Yeah. Yeah, it's a good idea. Why don't I?
Becca: Ok.
Gillian: Merry Christmas, Ryan. Thank you for my presents.
Ryan: Uh -- [speaking Hungarian]
Eugenia: That means "Merry Christmas, Princess," in Hungarian.
Ryan: Yeah, sort of. I remember from last year.
Becca: Bye.

Edmund: You know what? Santa has been spotted in town. You know what that means? That means you got to go to sleep right now. Come on.
Stella: Come on, little cherub. Let's get you to bed.
Edmund: Yeah.
Stella: Huh? Say, "bye."
Edmund: I'll come tuck And tuck you in. Say hi to your sister. I can't wait to see their faces tomorrow morning.
Alex: So sweet. So lucky to have them.
Edmund: Listen, I want you to have something. It's -- it's Dimitri's ring. It's got the Marick family crest on it. It's been with us for generations.
Alex: But he left that to you.
Edmund: I want you to have it.

Rosa: Mateo?
Mateo: Yeah?
Rosa: I found this in my prayer book. It's addressed to you.
Mateo: In your prayer book?

Trevor: You missing Mateo?
Hayley: Here you go. You know, I knew that this day would be tough, but now that it's here --
Trevor.: It ain't over till it's over.
Hayley: I've managed to get through worse.
Trevor: Well, you don't have to get through it. You just call Mateo. He's just a ring-a-ding-a-ling away. Call him. Wish him a Merry, Merry.
Hayley: That would make it worse. You know? Because then I'd hear in his voice that he doesn't care and --
Trevor: Oh, come on. How can you be so sure of that?
Hayley: Believe me.
Trevor: Well, you know where I stand on the subject. But I'm just your Uncle Porkchop who loves you. There's no reason to be listening to me. But you could be listening to your heart

Janet: Fingerprints. My fingerprints are going to be all over this.
Janet: Amanda. Oh, Amanda

Vanessa: David? How long has it been since we've shared a Christmas Eve service together?
David: Oh, I don't know, Vanessa. How about never?
Vanessa: I'm sure you're wrong, dear. What are you doing here?
David: I was supposed to be meeting Erica, but she went to see her daughter and her flight got delayed.
Vanessa: Oh, dear. Well, I've heard her use that excuse a number of times before when she starts to tire of someone. Listen, darling, you don't have to sit here all by yourself. You can join our little family.
David: Oh, thanks, but no thanks. I don't want to take a chance of sitting next to you when you start singing Christmas carols. I'm sure you'll be struck by lightning. Merry Christmas, Mother.

[Greenlee laughs]

Leo: I know Grandpa's watching, but aren't you laying it on a little bit thick?
Greenlee: Do me a favor. Go tell Grampy all about Christmas in Milan.

Greenlee: Hey.
Ryan: Oh, hey.
Greenlee: I'm so glad to see you. I was afraid you wouldn't get my note.
Ryan: I didn't get your note. I just tagged along with Becca and Scott.
Greenlee: I'll take my Christmas miracles where I can get them.
Ryan: Why are we hiding?
Greenlee: My grandmother found out about you and me in the hot tub at home. She wasn't amused.
Ryan: Oh. So we can't see each other anymore?
Greenlee: No, you're just forbidden fruit. Even more delicious.
Ryan: It's a church, Greenlee --
Greenlee: Ok, ok, ok. I'm going to sneak out when I get home. Join me. I have something for you in desperate need of unwrapping.

Dixie: Hello. Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas.
Joe: Merry Christmas.
Dixie: Hi.
Jamie: Dixie, can we go play video games?
Dixie: Sure, but you should say hi to Grandma Ruth first.
Joe: She's in the kitchen.
Jamie: Ok.
Tad: And don't break anything.

Jake: I invited Stuart. He couldn't bear to be away from Colby for Christmas, so --
Joe: I don't blame him. She's a remarkable child. And I don't say that just because she's my own flesh and blood.
Adam: [As Stuart] Oh, I know you don't. Oh!

Opal: Ooh, hello there. Let us in. Merry Christmas.
Dixie: Hey.
Opal: Hi, Stuart. Good to see you.
Joe: Welcome, welcome.
Opal: Oh, Joe, you must be just bursting with joy, having a brand-new grandchild to share her first Christmas with you. I swear, Jake, she looks more like you every day.
Jake: She does?
Opal: Yeah, look at her.
Joe: Well, why don't we all sit down, hmm?
Jake: Maybe it's the hairy forearms.
Opal: Oh, my goodness. And you, young man. I see that you brought a date for Christmas Eve. That's wonderful.
Adrian: Well, as I mentioned earlier, she is not a date. She's an employee. She just didn't have anywhere else to spend Christmas Eve.
Opal: I see. Well, whatever you call her, she's very attractive.
Adrian: Thank you very much.

Joe: I'm not going to have to persuade her to study medicine. She's going to make that choice all by herself.
Tad: Oh, sure she is, Dad. But you know what? I think Jake is going to ask Stuart to give her painting lessons. Stuart, what do you think? Hasn't she got artistic fingers?
Adam: Oh, well, she's a little young. I think you can't really tell how -- what kind of talent she's going to have later on.

[Doorbell rings]

Adam: Don't you think?
Joe: Excuse me. Hi, Liza. Welcome.
Liza: Hi.
Joe: Welcome.

Image: Hey, hey, hey! Not so fast.
Janet: Shut up. Shut up, shut up!
Image: Janet, honey, get a grip. It's Christmas Eve. And Amanda's safe because of you.
Janet: She wouldn't go away. I begged her to leave my family alone.
Image: Sophie got exactly what she deserved. She threatened to hurt your little girl.

Trevor: Babe, is that you?

Image: And wipe that guilty look off your face. Trevor's going to know something's wrong.

Trevor: Hey, where you been?
Janet: Oh, it just took me a little longer to clean up than I expected. Where is everybody?
Trevor: Hey, hey, hey. What's wrong? Looks like you think your mother's coming for Christmas.

[Waves crash]

Hayley: Mateo? Mateo: I got your note.
Hayley: My note?
Mateo: Yeah. My sister found it in her prayer book. I guess Adrian must have put it there when I wasn't looking.
Hayley: Adrian just happened to be nearby?
Mateo: No. We were at the service at Wildwind chapel.
Hayley: I think we've been set up.
Mateo: Set up?
Hayley: I got a note from you, too. I found it at my Uncle Trevor's house. At least, I thought it was your handwriting.
Mateo: I didn't give you a note.
Hayley: Yeah, I didn't give you a note, either. I guess Uncle Trevor must have planted it when my back was turned or something. I -- I believed it was from you. Should have known better.
Mateo: Why?
Hayley: You didn't write a note. I didn't write a note. We were tricked into coming here. I'm sorry you had to come all this way.
Mateo: I'm not.
Hayley: You're not?

Janet: On the way back here, I started watching people. Happy people, you know -- families surrounded by their friends and loved ones. And then I started to see the ones who were alone to them, tonight's just another dark, lonely night.
Trevor: Yeah. It's a tough night to be alone.
Janet: I had to make due with so little in the past. I can't do it again. I just can't.
Trevor: Hey, you're not going to have to. You got me. You got Amanda. We love you. It'll be ok. It's not going to happen.
Janet: I know.
Trevor: Go upstairs, take a warm bath. And when you come downstairs, we'll have some eggnog, the grownup kind, and we'll get into the Christmas spirit.

Janet: Everything I've ever wanted, ever dreamed of is in this house.
Image: You're right. You couldn't have it better than Trevor and Amanda, and you just made sure you'll never lose them.
Janet: But what if they find Sophie's body? They're going to connect it to me.
Image: It's the holidays. No one's going to touch that dumpster till next week.
Janet: What happens if they do?
Image: Who's going to go through week-old garbage? They'll empty its contents. They'll burn it, they'll compact it, whatever they do.
Janet: You really think so? You think it might all go away?
Image: Janet, relax. The only one who could blow it is you.

[Homeless woman finds Sophie in the dumpster]

[Woman screams]

Joe: Liza. Come in, come in. I'm so happy you could join us.
Liza: Oh, well, I can't stay. I just have the stocking that I made for Colby's first Christmas. You said you would hang it.
Jake: Yeah. Well, why don't you stay and have Christmas with us.
Dixie: Yeah.
Tad: Yeah, absolutely, Liza. Come on.
Liza: No. No, thanks. I'm going to go.
Joe: Liza, where is Adam spending Christmas?
Liza: I don't know. And frankly, I don't care. Come on. Yeah. I love you. Merry Christmas, everybody.
Opal: Oh, Merry Christmas, honey.
Liza: Bye-bye.
Opal: Bye.

Tad: Can you believe it? She's in tears, and it's Christmas. Would someone please tell me what the hell women see in Adam Chandler? Every time he marries one of them, they end up regretting it.
Dixie: Tad, now's not the time, ok?
Tad: Yes, it is. She is in pain, and it's his fault. And he did the same thing to you and to Brooke and to Gloria. If there's any justice in this world, Adam Chandler is going to die a miserable, lonely old man.

Hayley: You're glad this happened?
Mateo: It's a beautiful night. It's clear. There are worse places to be than here tonight.
Hayley: I like the beach in the winter. You get the whole place to yourself.
Mateo: You always come here to think, huh?
Hayley: This is a special place. This is where I met you. That's why when I got your note -- well, what I thought was your note --
Mateo: Well, what did it say?
Hayley: "In the beginning, there was you and me and an ocean of love. I'll be waiting for you. Teo."
Mateo: You thought I'd say something like that?
Hayley: You would say something like that. I mean, when -- you know, when you're trying to, you know --
Mateo: You want to hear yours?
Mateo: "I went to the beach to lose myself, but I found you. I'll be waiting for you. Hayley." You se that's -- that's easy to believe because that's actually what happened, you know. You're shivering.
Hayley: No.
Mateo: I've got a blanket here. You want to share it? Come on. Please? Here you go.
Mateo: Oh.
Mateo: I miss you.
Hayley: I miss you.
Mateo: You know, I wish I could stay, but --
Hayley: I know. You have to go see Max. That's right.
Mateo: Yeah. The redeye, you know?
Hayley: Well, you don't want to be late for your flight, not with that great present you got for him and everything.
Mateo: Hey. This was a great present -- getting to see you on Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas.
Hayley: Merry Christmas.

Joe: Tad, Christmas is a time of family and love and forgiveness. Probably the only time of the year that Adam Chandler can add up all that he has and feel that he's a poor man. He needs our compassion.
Jake: Our compassion? Adam?
Dixie: No, Joe's right. I mean, look at us. Here we are, all surrounded by family and friends. And where's Adam, you know? He's off somewhere, who knows where, alone probably, feeling wronged, sulking, planning his next revenge. I mean, I actually hope that someday he gets to feel a little of the love and family that we all have now.
Adam: [As Stuart] I'm sorry to butt in, but I can't help it. Adam is my brother. And he loves Liza. And he loves Junior and he loves all his daughters. So maybe you shouldn't be so hard on him.

Jamie: When are we going to eat?
Junior: Let's eat!
Jamie: Let's go!
Junior: Come on, you guys! Let's eat!
Dixie: Whoa! I'm going to the kitchen! Everybody, help, help!
Joe: I think so.
Adrian: Food.
Opal: Get a little something to eat. I'd like that.

Tad: Are you sticking up for Adam now?
Adam: Well, he's my brother.
Tad: Well, I know, Stuart, but all this time, you've been impersonating your brother, you've been giving his money away. Matter of fact, the other day, you said you were doing all of this for Colby. And what was that supposed to mean?
Adam: I -- I love Colby.
Opal: Hey, we sure could use a couple of strong guys to open some jars out here. Any help?
Tad: I'll be right there, Mama.
Opal: Ok.
Tad: Ah, never mind. You just keep doing the good job you're doing.

Adam: [Normal voice] so you knew all along that Stuart was pretending to be me. You're going to pay for that one.

Edmund: Ladies and gentlemen, I want to put you in the Christmas spirit. This is CeCe Winans, my guest at Wildwind. She's going to sing "O Holy Night."
Cece: Thank you.

[Music plays]

CeCe: O holy night the stars are brightly shining it is the night of the dear savior's birth
long lay the world in sin and error pining till he appeared and the soul felt its worth
a thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn
fall on your knees o hear the angels' voices
o night divine o night when Christ was born
o night o holy night o night o night divine

Trevor: Hayley and Mateo are out on my porch, and it doesn't look like they're hating it.
Adrian: Well, that's great, but I didn't do anything.
Trevor: Well, somebody did something to get them together.
Adrian: Yeah, something. But not me.

Hayley: Well, thank you for walking me home.
Mateo: Thank you.
Hayley: For what?
Mateo: For believing that I actually wrote that note. "From the beginning, there was you, me, and an ocean of love." See you.
Hayley: By the way, I like your hair.
Mateo: Yeah? Thanks.

Hayley: Ahem.
Trevor: So, where you been?
Hayley: Like you don't know.
Trevor: Hmm? Hayley: I got your note. I went to the beach to meet Mateo just like it said.
Trevor: What, you think I forged some note?
Hayley: You didn't?
Amanda: I told you your wish would come true.
Janet: Hi.
Amanda: Read to us, mommy.
Janet: Ok.
Trevor: Come on, Tink. Come and sit by me.
Trevor: Merry, merry.
Janet: "'Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse."

Eugenia: This is the best Christmas we've had in a long time.
Gillian: In a very long time.

[Doorbell rings]

Jake: Well, we hope you guys are having a great time.
Joe: Stuart, you're back.
Stuart: Back?
Joe: Yes. I thought you went home. Oh, you've got a new sweater.
Stuart: Oh, yeah. It's pretty new.
Joe: Oh, my. Very, very festive.
Stuart: I just wanted to say "Merry Christmas" to the Martins.
Joe: Well, thank you, Stuart. Merry Christmas to you.

[Car approaches]

Marian: Oh, hi, darling. How are you?
Liza: Hi.
Marian: It must have been awful for you leaving Colby there with Jake tonight.
Liza: Yeah, it was. But the best place for her, under the circumstances.
Marian: Well, you're right there.
Liza: You know, this was not the Christmas that I imagined. I imagined that I would spend it with my husband and my daughter.
Marian: Oh, Liza, don't go getting sentimental on me, ok? I mean, don't waste one ounce of Christmas spirit on Adam because he doesn't deserve it.
Liza: You know, I'll tell you what he deserves -- he doesn't deserve me. He doesn't deserve Colby. I didn't see this.
Marian: What is it?
Liza: It's an invitation to the world television conference in Monaco.
Marian: In Monaco?
Liza: Yeah.
Marian: How fabulous. Oh, Liza, it starts January 1. Darling, this is providential. I think you should just take Colby and go. You won't even have to think about Adam for days and days.
Liza: Well, that's beginning to sound good.
Marian: Liza, don't think. Just go, ok?
Liza: Well, I have to put in an appearance at the Crystal Ball, but I guess I could leave from there.
Marian: Well, that's great, darling. It's perfect. You realize this is the best piece of luck that we've had in a long time, darling. A long time.

Adam: See you in Monaco, sweetheart. Get ready for a great new year.
