ALL MY CHILDREN

FEBRUARY 3, 2000

Janet: It must seem a little silly to see a grown woman talking to her reflection.
Brooke: Are you ok?
Janet: Some people sing in the shower. I talk to myself in the mirror. I've explained it to you and to Amanda. I mean, there's nothing wrong with giving yourself a little pep talk when things get bad.
Brooke: It didn't sound like a pep talk.
Janet: Were you eavesdropping? I mean, give me a little privacy.
Brooke: Come on, Janet. You know, it's not like that.
Janet: I'm fine. You don't need to hover.
Brooke: You know that Trevor and Amanda are worried about you.
Janet: Well, they shouldn't be. I'm coping. And you and Jamie can go home.
Brooke: I still think there's some reason to be concerned.
Janet: You think I'm crazy?
Brooke: No, of course not. I just think it wouldn't be a bad idea to get some help.
Janet: I told you I'm not sick anymore! I'm not!

Alex: Why would anyone seal my medical records? I mean, a nervous breakdown hardly qualifies as a state secret.
Edmund: Obviously the British government thinks there's a very good reason.
Alex: And no one would tell you why?
Edmund: No, nothing.
Alex: Oh, well, that's it, then. I can't remember, and the government forbids me to read my own records. It's bloody ridiculous.
Edmund: We're not giving up, Alex. We're going to find the truth. You deserve to know.
Alex: Thank you.

David: Aw, puppy love. How touching.

Leo: You want me to seduce your sister-in-law?
Adam: She's also my mother-in-law. Don't bother. I've heard all the jokes.
Le I'm not laughing. You have anything specific in mind?
Adam: Oh, yes. I want Stuart to walk in on you and Marian in a compromising position.
Leo: In flagrante delicto.
Adam: Yeah.
Leo: That's harsh.
Adam: It's the only way I can make Stuart see the truth about the shrew he's married to.
Leo: Seems like an awfully cold thing to do to your own brother.
Adam: I've always looked after Stuart's best interests. He knows that. In time, he'll understand.
Leo: This Marian will still be your mother-in-law.
Adam: I can handle her. He can't.
Leo: Maybe he loves her.
Adam: Maybe he does. That's none of your business.
Leo: This is out of my league.
Adam: But corporate espionage isn't? Your fingerprints are all over this thing. Now, what do you think your stepfather will think when he finds out that you stole his Y2K business plans for me?
Leo: You're threatening me.
Adam: No, no, no, no. We're negotiating. You do what I want, and I won't ruin your life.
Leo: I'm not that attached to Pine Valley.
Adam: But your mother is. Would you like to reconsider?
Leo: I was rash. But now that I've had time to think it over, I'll help you save your brother from Marian.

Marian: Darling, Jackson is very sharp. I'm sure he'll come up with a bucket full of ideas to stop Jake.
Liza: Adam is using Jake's love for Colby to bring this to a custody hearing. Adam wants everybody to know that he's Colby's father. He's hoping that somebody gets on the stand and reveals the truth under oath.
Marian: I won't. I'll simply take the fifth, darling.
Liza: Mother, don't do that. That's not going to serve Jake or the judge, and if he becomes suspicious --
Jack: Hello, ladies.
Liza: Spoken to Jake's lawyer? Where do we stand?
Jack: Well, it's the old saying, Liza. I've got some good news, and I've got some --
Liza: Bad news.
Jack: Bad news. Yeah.

Joe: Hello.
Jake: Hey, Dad.
Gillian: Hey.
Dixie: Hey.
Joe: Hello.
Jake: Oh, boy. Famous Martin coffee cake.
Joe: Not only do I have the cake, Ruth gave me the recipe to give to Gillian. She'll be along later. We don't want to wait up for her.
Tad: Oh, well, that's official. You get the secret family recipe, you're in.
Gillian: Thank you. Let me just put this down.
Dixie: Where's Eugenia?
Jake: She's off to Budapest.
Joe: Budapest?
Jake: There's no stopping her.
Gillian: Well, it's just a quick trip. She'll be back in time for the wedding, and I promised her to tell her everything that happens tonight. I mean, she's an honorary Martin now, isn't she?
Joe: She certainly is.

Jake: I'd like to propose a toast.
Everybody have a glass?
Joe: Yep.
Jake: To two women who have made my life complete -- Gillian and Colby. You're my dream come true.
Tad: Good one.
Jake: I have a gorgeous wife -- or I will have a gorgeous wife -- I have a beautiful daughter and a wonderful family. I'm a very lucky man.
Joe: Hear, hear.
Tad: Cheers.
Gillian: Cheers.

Waiter: Excuse me.
Jack: Thank you, sir. Been asking around. This Leslie Coulson, is a lawyer who likes to play hardball.
Liza: How do we end this?
Jack: Liza, as you probably know, most family court judges tend to award custody to the birth mother.
Marian: Well, then that's it, then. Liza wins, right?
Jack: Unless the evidence that the father presents is compelling and supports his claim.
Liza: Like what?
Jack: My guess is they're going to come out and attack your lifestyle.
Marian: Oh, well, he wouldn't dare. Liza's a fabulous mother.
Liza: Mother, please just let him speak. What could they have about the way that I live?
Jack: You're going through a divorce. I think that's the angle they're going to take.
Liza: But I'm doing this for Colby.
Jack: I think Leslie Coulson will try to show that your home is unstable and not a fit place to raise a child.
Liza: You can't ask me to reconcile with Adam.
Jack: No, no. You don't have to do anything that drastic.
Liza: Well, then what?
Jack: I think we need to remind the court that Jake Martin volunteered to be a sperm donor and nothing more.
Liza: No, I won't.
Jack: Why not, Liza?
Liza: Because he's a perfect father.
Jack: Well, this perfect father is trying to take your child away from you.
Liza: It's not an option, Jack. Jack: I got to tell you you're tying my hands here.
Liza: I am not going to badmouth him, Jack. I won't.
Jack: Ok. Ok, well, then I suggest you settle this as soon as you possibly can. You do whatever it takes.

David: Well, don't let me interrupt.
Edmund: I meant what I said before. Listen, I'm going to Wildwind, Jake and Gillian's engagement party. You going to come later?
Alex: Yeah, as soon as I finish this.
Edmund: Ok, good. See you then.
Alex: Ok.

David: I always thought that the Marick dynasty was famous for its sense of humor. Obviously it skipped over the illegitimate son. Not as much joie de vivre there.
Alex: Invoice for lab equipment. Sign it, please.
David: Great.
Alex: What is this?
David: Karen's release form.
Alex: What are you doing?
David: I am trying to release a healthy patient.
Alex: You don't have the authority to approve her leaving the hospital.
David: Of course I do. You asked me to assist. I'm on record as being one of her attending physicians.
Alex: You had no right to do this without consulting me. She's not ready
David: There is absolutely no reason to keep this child in this hospital, Alex.
Alex: Yes. The girl's safety.
David: Medically speaking, she's perfectly sound. We can't hide a healthy child in a hospital because you think there might be a problem. We've done our job, Alex. It's time to release Karen's case to the proper agency.
Alex: No. I won't let you ruin this girl's life.

Janet: I didn't mean to blow up at you. I really appreciate you being here.
Brooke: It's all right. Really.
Janet: It's just I -- I just couldn't stand the idea of my daughter and my husband going to you and then saying that I needed to see somebody.
Brooke: We're practically family. They came to me because they love you and they want to help you.
Janet: Well, I should be helping them. My little girl needs me.
Brooke: Janet, you're not going to be able to help Amanda if you don't help yourself first.
Janet: What are you saying, cause I talk to myself in the mirror I can't take care of my own daughter?
Brooke: No. No, of course not. You know, you did say that you would think about talking to Dr. Jaffe.
Janet: I didn't make any promises.
Brooke: Look, so much has happened. You know, the stress has --
Janet: You think I'm cracking up.
Brooke: I think it hasn't let up. You know, there are reporters that are still camped outside.
Janet: And you think I should see a shrink?
Brooke: I think that you should talk somebody that you can trust and who you know is going to be on your side.
Janet: Oh, Brooke, Trevor's out there somewhere. And it's all my fault. And Amanda's still so sad. And that's my fault, too. And there' nothing I can do to fix it, except to make sure that I'm there for my daughter, that she doesn't lose her mother, too.
Brooke: And that's not going to happen if you take care of yourself.
Janet: That's right. I'm not going anywhere.
Brooke: Look, I know that talking to Dr. Jaffe is very scary for you. I just think if you don't do it for yourself, do it for Amanda. Please, please, Janet, talk to somebody who's going to help you.
Janet: I've got to go get the laundry out of the dryer.
Brooke: Janet, listen, I --

Adam: Marian's past has been littered with whelps of your sort. No matter how solid her marriage is, she'll never be able to resist a boy toy who seems enamored of her.
Leo: "Boy toy." Well, that's the role of a lifetime.
Adam: One that I'm sure will come easily to you.
Leo: Isn't there some other way that we can save your brother without destroying his marriage?
Adam: I can't imagine what that would be.
Leo: Well, if they're as devoted as you say they are, this is going to hurt him.
Adam: Marian is a malignancy in his life. The sooner she's cut out, the better for everyone.
Leo: Oh, and he'll thank you for this.

Stuart Adam? You here?
Adam: Get behind the sofa.
Leo: Are you kidding me?
Adam: Get behind the sofa now! Quick!

Stuart: Adam, I'm glad you're here.
Adam: What is it, Stuart?
Stuart: I just feel awful about the way I treated you. I can't get it out of my head.
Adam: Well, you did say some terrible things. I accept your apology.
Stuart: Oh, I didn't come here to apologize. Everything I said was true.
Adam: Well, then why are you here?
Stuart: I just want to make things right between us again.

Liza: Settle? I mean, settle? He wants full custody. I'll end up with visitation rights.
Marian: Yoo-hoo! Oh, excuse me. Does everybody want another round?
Jack: No, I'm good.
Liza: Mother --
Marian: Oh, well, I'd like another one. I'll be right back. Excuse me.
Jack: Yeah. Liza, I'm not going to lie to you. It could very well go exactly that way.
Liza: Well, then tell me the truth. What are my chances if this goes to court, honestly?
Jack: Honestly, it's very tough to say. There aren't many precedents regarding sperm donor's rights.
Liza: So translation is that it's not good for me.
Jack: Let me ask you a question. What do you think the chances are of you and Jake sitting down and trying to solve this, you trying to convince him to change his mind? I mean, you two have always had a good rapport. Yes, you both have Colby's best interest at heart. That's got to be a good start.
Liza: So all you're asking for is a miracle.
Jack: That's all lawyers ever ask for. We settle for less, but we ask for miracles. I tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to go call Leslie Coulson and see if I can't set up a meeting, get everybody in the same room. But when we do, I want you to promise me you'll let me do the talking. I'll see you later.

[Liza imagines what it would be like if she told Jake the truth]

Jake: Adam switched his sperm with mine. How could you not tell me?
Liza: I didn't know myself.
Jake: When?
Liza: Until right before Christmas. And I know how much you love Colby. I couldn't find the words.
Jake: So now what?
Liza: I want you to still be her father.
Jake: And Adam?
Liza: Adam is just a donor. You are her father. You are her father. And I am divorcing him, and Adam is going to have nothing to do with raising Colby.
Jake: How can I believe that? Every time you say you're running away from him, you go right back to him. His hold on you is too strong.
Liza: I am not addicted to Adam. The only thing that kept us bound was this secret. This secret. And the secret is no longer, and I can choose what I want. I want you and I to parent this child as it was before all this mess.
Jake: Oh, Liza. To keep this a secret from me --
Liza: Jake, please forgive me.
Jake: He kept it from both of us. I don't blame you. Colby's my daughter, blood or not, and nothing's going to change that.
Liza: So you'll drop the suit?
Jake: Yeah. Yeah. With Adam out of our lives, we'll raise Colby together, you and I and Gillian.
Liza: You've made me so happy. Thank you. Thank you so much.

Marian: Liza, where are you off to?
Liza: To do what I should have done a long time ago, mother.
Marian: What's that?
Liza: Just tell Jackson that I had to leave, ok?
Marian: Ok.

Alex: Well, god knows what'll happen to Karen now.
David: I will continue to periodically monitor her heart condition.
Alex: You assume that someone will actually bring her in for a checkup.
David: Well, yes.
Alex: You assume a lot. She was traumatized. You knew that.
David: My field is cardiology, Alex.
Alex: How can you be so heartless? Do you actually have a pulse? Her father may be guilty of abuse.
David: There was no concrete evidence of that.
Alex: Because she can't speak! She's been traumatized!
David: Child services will investigate. If they see that there was a problem, they will take the appropriate action.
Alex: It was our job to protect her until she felt safe enough to confide in us.
David: I'm sorry to disappoint you, Alex, but this is not murky old England. Government doesn't pay for hospitalization while we wait for Karen to name the person who may or may not have abused her.
Alex: So this all about freeing up bed space, is it? Oh, the government would be proud.
David: We're not releasing Karen to some monster. We're letting her go to foster care. It is a perfectly legitimate response.
Alex: You know very well given the circumstances she will be returned to her family within a matter of days, and that will destroy her.
David: You've let yourself get too involved in this case.
Alex: She's a child.
David: And you're a doctor. Where's your objectivity?
Alex: Where's your compassion? There's no actual advantage to being heartless, you know.
David: Our objectivity saves lives. You've identified so closely with this patient that your emotions have taken over. It's a dangerous precedent.
Alex: Oh, don't patronize me.
David: You are dead wrong about this, Alex, but you're too close to see it. You're totally irrational.
Alex: You're off the case.
David: There's no need to overreact.
Alex: I don't want you near that child.
David: You can remove me from the case. But you know something? It's not going to change your problem. We still have to work together.
Alex: Well, then I will move this foundation out of Pine Valley.
David: You can't do that. Dimitri's will specifically states that you can't.
Alex: I don't care. I will break it. I don't want anything more to do with you.
Erica: Well, I think that can be arranged.

Brooke: Listen, I'm --
Janet: I'm sorry.
Brooke: I'm really sorry.
Janet: I mean --
Brooke: Go ahead. Go ahead.
Janet: I had a chance to think during the spin cycle. And I didn't mean -- I don't think that you're trying to turn my husband and my daughter against me.
Brooke: You know, they're worried about you, Janet. We are all.
Janet: Well, maybe it's not the worst idea for me to see a spy-- a doctor and -- and to try to get some help. I don't want Amanda to lose faith in me.
Brooke: You know what? You won't regret it.
Janet: And what's the worst thing that could happen? So they tell me, "oh, plenty people talk to themselves." I could live with that.
Brooke: I think it's the right thing to do. And you know what? It's -- I mean, you know, doctors like Dr. Jaffe -- that's what they're there for. You know, they help people with problems that they can't, you know, solve on their own.
Janet: I'll call her tomorrow.
Brooke: You know what? I could call her right now -what time is good for you?
Janet: Anytime.
Brooke: Yeah? Ok.

Brooke: Yes, hi. I'd like to make an appointment with Dr. Jaffe. Yes, it's for a friend of mine -- Janet Dillon. Well, as soon as possible. Yeah, that would be great. All right, thanks very much.

Brooke: Ok. You have an appointment tomorrow morning, so I left the number and the appointment time there on the desk, ok?
Janet: Ok. I'm really sorry I lashed out at you.
Brooke: I'm really sorry that I upset you. You know, I -- I think that you'll be glad you did this.
Janet: I think you're right.

Erica: Aren't you going to welcome me home, Alex?
Alex: Welcome home.
Erica: She didn't miss me. How about you?
David: Welcome home.
Erica: Your shoulder.
David: No, I'm fine now that you're home. How was your trip?
Erica: I missed you. So did Bianca.
David: I have to tell you, Pine Valley was a wasteland without you.
Erica: I see you found a way to entertain yourself.
David: Just a day in the life.
Erica: What happened?
David: Alex can't tolerate any other view other than her own.
Erica: You mean all that anger was all about a professional disagreement?
David: Well, it started out that way, but then it disintegrated. I called her on being -- losing objectivity with a patient. I told her that she was being irrational, and she lost it.
Erica: Well, of course because the truth was much too much for her to bear. You look worried.
David: Unstable or not, she has the power to remove the foundation or even kill it if she wants to if I keep pushing her. I got to do something to get this woman out of here.
Erica: Maybe I could help you.
David: Oh, really? You have a one-way ticket to Katmandu?
Erica: Something much more permanent. I promise you, David, Alex is not going to be a problem for us ever again.

Jake: You look content.
Gillian: I am.
Edmund: And even more gorgeous, if that's possible.
Joe: Excuse me. Well, now that Edmund's arrived, I would like to propose a toast to his lovely cousin.
Gillian: Oh.
Jake: Oh, now it's dad's turn.
Dixie: Oh, toast time.
Joe: When Jake gave us a grandchild last year, I thought our lives could not be any richer. But now he's given us a beautiful daughter. Gillian, we couldn't be happier that he's found you. Welcome to our family.

Tad: To the dame that finally snared my baby brother. I hope to God you know what you're getting into.
Dixie: I'm so sorry that my husband has no sense or propriety or timing. But that doesn't run in the family, thank goodness.
Jake: Hear, hear.
Edmund: Hear, hear.
Joe: Hear, hear.
Gillian: I just want to thank you all for being here today. It means so much to me. And I know it's not Sunday morning, but shall we have some of Grandma Kate's coffee cake?
Joe: Good idea. Good idea.
Edmund: That's good.

Tad: No, you don't. Come here. You've got to give me the chance to congratulate you.
Jake: Can you believe it? Me marrying a gorgeous creature like that? What? And if we're lucky, Colby will be with us very soon.
Tad: No, no, no. Wait a minute -- that's what I want to talk to you about. Listen, are you absolutely sure about this custody thing?
Jake: Absolutely sure. I want Colby to be part of moments like this, and I'm afraid if I don't do anything about it right now, she never will be.
Tad: But what about Liza? Jake, if you win, then she's going to be heartbroken.
Jake: Nothing is as important to me as Colby. Well, except Gillian.

Gillian: No, don't do that!

Jake: Hey. What are you doing the next couple days?

Tad: Nothing. Why? Jake: I want you to pull out that monkey suit of yours and press it, be best man. You're going to a jamboree.
Tad: Come here. You banana.
Jake: Thank you.

Gillian: Move in, move in. All right, smile. Beautiful.
Edmund: Posterity?
Gillian: It's for Colby.
Edmund: Ah.
Gillian: I want her to see how happy I am tonight and how much I love her daddy. Here, take one.
Edmund: Ok. You're in deep trouble here. Here we go. On your mark, get set --
Gillian: Smile.
Dixie: Yay!
Joe: Hey, I knew he could do it.
Edmund: Oh, boy, am I good at this.
Dixie: Well done.
Gillian: All right, and now I want to hear the famous Martin yodel.

[Doorbell rings]

Tad: You've been bragging again. It's not a yodel. It's a greeting.

[Dixie yodels]

Tad: No, it's -- hello-oo! You see? It's nothing. Hello-oo!
Dixie: Hello-oo!
Tad: Come on, everybody. Hello-oo! See ya...

Stuart: I'm not sorry for the things I said, but I'm sorry that I lost my temper. I just got mad. The things you said to Marian, the names you called her. Something in me just sort of blew up.
Adam: I thought you were going to hit me.
Stuart: Me, too. I should've waited till I was calmed down some, but, well, I wanted to hurt you because you hurt Marian. And that's wrong.
Adam: I didn't want to hurt you, Stuart.
Stuart: But you do, Adam, when you hurt Marian. I love her. What she feels, I feel, too.
Adam: It'll never happen again. We never used to argue. Ever since you married Marian --
Stuart: Now, don't start anything.
Adam: The woman has changed you, Stuart.
Stuart: Maybe I changed myself. Did you ever think of that? Maybe I learned something. Maybe I learned what it's like to be you. And maybe I'd rather be me.
Adam: Stuart --
Stuart: Just because I don't talk loud is no reason not to listen to me. Adam, everything I'm saying is true. You've got to stop being so selfish or you're going to lose everything you love.

Leo: Tell me again why I should be proud to wreck that man's marriage.
Adam: Because I said so.
Leo: He loves her.
Adam: If he stays with her, he will become as conniving as she is.
Leo: I can't do this.
Adam: Well, if you don't, I guarantee you your mother will be on the street and you will be behind bars. The one sin Palmer Cortlandt cannot ever forgive is disloyalty.
Leo: I knew that there was a compelling reason. But I'll do it my way, huh?
Adam: Fine. Spare me the details. But do it. And make it sufficient. Don't forget, we've never met. I'll never see you again unless you screw this up. You better pray that doesn't happen.

David: Does this information have anything to do with the fact that you were impossible to reach? You did go to Switzerland, didn't you?
Erica: Well, of course I did. Yes. I just took a little side trip.
David: So where were you when you called me?
Erica: Taking care of business.
David: Enchantment?
Erica: Yours.
David: What did you do?
Erica: Wales is beautiful at this time of year.
David: If you like it cold, dark, and dank. What did you do?
Erica: I saw the sights, including a certain mental institution.
David: You didn't.
Erica: Somebody had to.
David: You promised that you would stay out of my business.
Erica: David, I promised you that because it made you so happy. But I certainly had no intention of sitting on te sidelines and wringing my hands. You know that's not my way.
David: So you'll say whatever I want to hear, t you'll do pretty much as you please.
Erica: I'm a woman of action.
David: Does honesty and truthfulness mean anything in this relationship?
Erica: Oh, David, come on. You know that our relationship is so much more evolved than that. I do a lot more than stand by my man. And he better be able to keep up.
David: You know, I don't know whether I should kiss you or swat you.
Erica: Well, do you want to play Neanderthal, or do you want to hear my news?
David: Why is it the more grief you give me, that more I love you?
Erica: I don't know. But right now you really should sit down and listen because you won't believe what your co-director has been hiding.

Liza: I lied to --

Alex: Hello. Hi.
Jake: Hi.
Alex: Sorry. Am I too late?
Jake: No, no. Champagne is over there by my gorgeous wife-to-be.
Alex: Oh. Ok. Thank you.

Jake: Ok. Hey. Hey, come to daddy. How you been, huh? How you been?
Liza: Jake, I need to --
Dixie: Hi! How's my little angel? Can I take her for a little while, please?
Jake: Ok, for a little while.
Dixie: Oh, thank you. Oh, thank you very much. Oh, yes.
Jake: There we go.
Gillian: Liza, would you like some cake?
Joe: I've got to get a camera, get some pictures of the youngest Martin.

Jake: So, what's going on?
Liza: You know that I have -- you are the only father that I've wanted for Colby. But it's not that simple.
Jake: It will be simple once I have custody.
Liza: Jake, why can't we go back to the way things were? Why can't we work something out?
Jake: Liza, this isn't a whim.
Liza: But a custody battle, Jake --
Jake: It wasn't easy for me to make this decision. It wasn't. Colby's future is at stake, and nobody is going to stop me from protecting her -- not Adam, not you.

Dixie: Hey. What's going on?
Jake: She's scared. She knows I have a strong case to get Colby.
Dixie: Come on, you're doing the right thing. We all just feel bad for Liza, right?

Liza: I've got to stop Jake. I've got to.

Image: Janet, Janet, Janet. When are you going to learn?
Janet: What?
Image: You're playing right into babbling Brooke's hands.
Janet: What are you talking about? I just said I would see a doctor.
Image: A shrink who's going to say you're crazy and lock you up.
Janet: That won't happen.
Image: You'll be making potholders, and Brooke will have it all -- your husband, your daughter, everything -- right down to little Smokey.
Janet: No, that's not true.
Image: It's so transparent. Like glass. And all that phony concern. You're letting her railroad you right into the funny farm.
Janet: I am not. I'm doing this for Amanda.
Image: You heard Brooke. She's practically family. As soon as she gets you into a straitjacket, she'll be family and you'll be forgotten.
Janet: I can't let that happen.

Janet: Hello. Yes. This is Janet Dillon, and I'm afraid there's been a misunderstanding. Brooke English made an appointment for me to see Dr. Jaffe. That's right. I'm sorry, I'm going to have to cancel. No, there's no need to reschedule. Thanks.

Jack: Let me see if I've got this straight, Marian. You have no idea where Liza went?
Marian: She just flew out of here, said something about doing what she should have done a long time ago.
Jack: I've got to get back to my office. Look, would you please ask her to call me if there's any news, any news at all?
Marian: Yes, of course I will. Oh, and Jackson, thank you so much. Really, thanks.
Jack: My pleasure, Marian.

Leo: Hey, Paulo. How you doing, buddy? This is Leo. How are the ladies treating you? You up for some fun? I wouldn't call unless it was worth your time. Ok. You'll meet me later? All right, I'll see you then. All right. Bye-bye.

Liza: Adam?
Liza: You're still here.
Adam: Yes. Almost finished how was the meeting? Did it go as you wished?
Liza: No.
Adam: Jake's determined to go through with the custody suit?
Liza: What do you think?
Adam: I'm sorry.
Liza: I tried to talk to Jake. The Martins are such a force. There's no talking to them.
Adam: I'll -- I'll be at the Valley Inn.
Liza: Adam?
Liza: I need to postpone the divorce. I need your helping in fighting this.
Adam: I will do everything I can to keep our daughter where she belongs.

Gillian: Bye. Thank you so much.
Jake: Bye.
Tad: All right, that's enough. Come on, move aside.
Dixie: Next.
Tad: What about your new brother? Give me some sugar. Come on.
Jake: Hey --
Gillian: Bye-bye.
Tad: See you later.
Joe: Give my best to Eugenia, and have a safe trip home.
Gillian: I will. I will. Bye-bye. Thank you.
Jake: Bye.
Gillian: Bye. Bye.
Jake: Whoo!

Alex: Hello.
Edmund: Well, congratulations again.
Jake: Thanks, Edmund.
Alex: You make a lovely family.
Jake: You want to hold the little doodle dug?
Alex: Do you think she'll come to me? Hi, sweetheart. Will you come to me?
Gillian: She's very sleepy.
Jake: Edmund, thanks again for having the party for us.
Edmund: Oh, listen, consider Wildwind your home.
Gillian: I've never had an evening like tonight.
Edmund: Well, you two are going to have thousands more like it.

David: So you knew for a fact that Alex was a patient there.
Erica: Absolutely. Even though no one on the staff was willing to say so.
David: Well, the hospital has a fiduciary responsibility to honor Alex's privacy. They wouldn't be eager to share that information with a stranger.
Erica: That's when I went to London.
David: Not for the fish and chips.
Erica: I wanted to find you the perfect present that would let you know exactly how much I missed you.
David: So, did you find what you were looking for?
Erica: I made some calls, I dropped a few names.
David: Including your own, I'm sure. Erica: And I found some people who were willing to talk.
David: Ok, out with it. What did you find?
Erica: According to several very reliable sources, Alex wound up in the insane asylum right after an important dignitary disappeared.
David: Go on.
Erica: David, his name is Geoffrey. Geoffrey Ashford.
David: Erica, she called me Geoffrey. I told you that.
Erica: Yes, you did. I know. When she pushed you down the stairs. How can I put this delicately? Apparently, Alex was the last person to see Mr. Ashford alive.
David: Are you saying she killed him?
