ALL MY CHILDREN

JANUARY 17, 2000

Gillian: Jake, why -- why did you do all this?
Jake: This is an apology for pushing things too fast.
Gillian: Oh, that's ok. You were just, you know, worried about Colby.
Jake: My daughter's my life, but so are you.
Gillian: But Colby means more.
Jake: Colby will be fine with Liza. She'll be safe, just like you said. I want to make things right with you.
Gillian: First we need to talk.
Jake: Well, we can talk. We can talk all night. I'll tell you how much you mean to me -- or maybe we won't need to talk at all.
Jake: Hey. All I ask of you tonight is just to be with me.

Alex: Hi.
Edmund: Hey.
Alex: Ooh, hi. It's freezing. Come in, come in.
Edmund: Thanks.
Alex: Ooh, do you want a brandy?
Edmund: No, thanks.
Alex: Oh, come on, it'll warm you up. I'm having one.
Edmund: Ok, fine.
Alex: What are you doing out? It's so cold.
Edmund: I -- thanks. I was just, you know, going up the drive and I saw the light on.
Alex: Yeah. Research grants for the foundation. What's up?
Edmund: I, uh -- well, I went by S.O.S. To look for you and I didn't see you.
Alex: Yeah. Gillian and Jake -- they were so into each other, I felt like a chaperone, so I left, got a cab.
Edmund: Well, I had an interesting chat with Erica.
Alex: What was all that about?
Edmund: I got to warn you, she's up to no good, her and David.
Alex: Well, they always are.
Edmund: No, this is not business as usual. Alex, they're -- they're digging into your past. Erica -- well, she claims that a friend of hers in London passed on some information about you.
Alex: A friend or a paid informant?
Edmund: Doesn't matter. She wants to use this information to oust you from the Andrassy foundation.
Alex: Well, I knew I couldn't keep it secret any longer. I stole from the collection box when I was 5.
Edmund: It's not a joke.
Alex: You know what? She's been after me since the beginning, and I just don't care. I don't have anything to hide.
Edmund: It's not a matter of public record, Alex. And if it comes out, there could be some serious repercussions.
Alex: What? What has she got on me? What?
Edmund: Alex -- ahem -- Erica claims that you -- you spent several years in Wales in a mental institution. Is that true?

Joe: Any change since the call-in?
Paramedic: Tremors. They're shock-related. Her pressure and heart rate are steady.
Second paramedic: She was knocked unconscious.
Adam: My God, what happened? Answer me, damn it! Is she going to be all right?
Joe: Most likely she's suffering from smoke inhalation, possible concussion. Take her into the cubicle.
Mateo: Doc, can I go in with her?
Joe: I want to make sure that she's stabilized. And I want you to get checked out, too.
Mateo: I'm fine. Just make sure she's ok, all right?
Joe: Yeah.

Adam: Santos. Santos, what happened? Tell me what happened.
Mateo: I don't know any more than when I called you on the phone.
Adam: Damn it, I want details.
Mateo: Look, I don't know at started the fire or why she was there. All I know is that thank God I got her before the warehouse went up.
Adam: What warehouse?
Mateo: The one on Hillspoint Road.
Adam: What the hell was she doing in that part of town in the middle of the night?
Mateo: Listen, I know you're worried about Hayley, all right? All I know is that she thought Janet was in some kind of trouble and she went there to find her.
Adam: Wait a minute -- Janet, Janet? Dillon?
Mateo: Yeah. Why, does that mean something?
Adam: Janet Dillon asked me earlier today for $1 million in cash.
Mateo: Why?
Adam: I don't know. I don't know. Some -- some charity. She heard that money was flying out of my pocket.
Mateo: Did you give her the money?
Adam: Of course not. The hell with Janet Dillon. All I care about is Hayley.

Derek: Where is he, Jackson?
Jack: I have no idea. But as his lawyer, even if I did know --
Derek: Don't you give me that client privilege crap. If I find out that you helped him in any way, so help me, Jack -- so help me --
Jack: I have no idea where he is, Derek, and that's the truth.
Derek: What is it, Tommy?
Tommy: Sorry about your bust, sir. I tried to block the perp when he cut and ran, but he slammed my jaw and cut out the back way. Like he owned the joint.
Derek: Hmm. All right. Thanks.
Jack: Well, now, at one time, he did own the joint, now, didn't he?
Derek: Trevor Dillon was the best damn cop in the house.
Jack: Don't you forget that.

[Telephone rings]

Derek: All right, tell me something. Don't tell me that. Yeah, I want Trevor Dillon found and brought back here unharmed. Yes, he is my friend. But he's also a murderer and an arson suspect with an APB out. on him. So proceed with -- proceed with extreme caution.
Janet: Trevor escaped?
Derek: Running makes Trevor look guilty as sin, and he knows that.
Janet: But he didn't kill Sophie. I did.
Jack: That's not what Trevor's saying.
Janet: Yeah, well, he's lying.
Derek: Are you willing to swear to that? Swear that your husband signed a false confession? That my friend, Trevor Dillon, is an innocent man?
Jack: You don't have to answer that question. You haven't been charged with a crime.
Derek: What are you talking about? She confessed to killing Sophie --
Jack: I don't recall hearing you read my client her rights.
Derek: I thought Trevor was your client.
Jack: Well, I happen to be counsel to the whole Dillon family as of right now, and I don't want you to say another word.
Derek: Well, there's a warrant out for Trevor and I can get a warrant to search the house.
Jack: Fine, Derek, you do that. In the meantime, I'm taking Janet home.

Janet: I can't turn my back on Trevor. You know, we never even got a chance to say good-bye.
Jack: Now you listen to me -- listen to -- Trevor wants you to be safe. That's why he's doing this. That's why he's taking the law into his own hands -- for you and for that little girl. Now, things are going to get rough. But when they get rough, I want you to think "what would Trevor want me to do," and then you do that thing without question. You follow me? Good. Janet, listen, the first thing he would want you to do is to put yourself in my hands, to do whatever I tell you to do. Now, can you do that?
Janet: Ok.
Jack: Good. The first thing I'm going to tell you to do is don't speak to anyone, and I mean nobody, about this fire or Sophie or how she died. I want you to promise me.
Janet: I promise.
Jack: Good. Very good. I'm going to take you home. I'm sure your daughter's worried about you. Come on.

Gillian: Jake?
Jake: What?
Gillian: You don't know the truth.
Jake: About you? I know everything about you. And I know a little something about me, too. When I first came back to Pine Valley a while back, I was -- I was towing a sailboat and a made-up name, and all I really wanted to do was just kind of sail around and look for things, look for new places, new experiences, new people. But what I found here was something beyond my imagination.
Gillian: What did you find?
Jake: I found an intriguing, wacky, Hungarian girl whom I couldn't really quite understand too much -- for more than one reason. Then I discovered a princess who lost her heart and then found it. And she gave it away again. She gave it away to a guy who swears by the stars to value her trust and her love, her innocence. Because he -- he loves her very much. Gillian, you have brought me home -- for good.

Edmund: Alex, what Erica said -- is it true? I mean, were you a patient in a mental hospital?
Alex: Oh, you know, sometimes an inkblot just doesn't look like a butterfly, do you know what I mean?
Edmund: Yeah, I do. I do. And let me tell you something -- if you were sick and you got some help, I applaud that. Really. Remind me to tell you one time about how I kidnapped Erica and tied her up in a wine cellar in Hungary.
Alex: You don't have to humor me.
Edmund: I'm not. I did it and I wrote about it. People expect writers to be a little bit schizy.
Alex: What's your point?
Edmund: My point is if Erica is trying to attack you personally and professionally, just tell me the truth and I will help you fight it. Just tell me what it is and, I promise, I won't hold it against you. Trust me.

Jake: Hey, what's wrong? Did I upset you?
Gillian: No. You put me first in your life.
Jake: Yeah. Of course I put you first. My dad put my mom first, and they're -- honey, you are it for me. You are number one.
Gillian: No, Jake, Colby -- Colby's number one.
Jake: Colby -- I love Colby. I love you, too. I need you both to make my life complete.
Gillian: And if you had to lose Colby?
Jake: What, because of Adam? Well, honey, that's not going to happen. I know I'm upset. Liza took Colby away and I don't know where they are, but that's just -- that's me. They're going to be fine. She's going to be home soon and everything will be ok. I believe that. And I also believe that -- that trust and honesty and love -- these are the right things that get us through times like this. You taught me that. I know that the beginnings of things are scary. I also know that you and I are going to have a lot of happiness in our lives. I know that in a very deep part of me.
Gillian: I love you, Jake. I love you so much.

Adam: Doctor, how is she?
Joe: It's as I thought -- no burns. It's a mild case of smoke inhalation. She's got sore throat, some congestion in the lungs, no sign of concussion.
Mateo: How about her leg?
Joe: Bruised, but no break, no sprain.
Adam: When can I take her home?
Joe: I'm going to keep her here overnight for observation, just to be on the safe side.
Mateo: Wait -- is she ok, though?
Joe: Yeah. Yeah. You did all the right things, Mateo.
Mateo: Thank you. Can I go in?
Adam: No. You don't have any claim over her. None. Just stay away from her.
Hello, sweetheart. Here I am. I'm right here. Thank God you're all right. Sweetheart, what -- what were you doing in that warehouse in the middle of the night?
Hayley: Dad --
[Hayley gasps]

Adam: Shh, shh, shh. Don't. I'm sorry. No, I shouldn't have brought that up. You don't have to think about that now. Just concentrate -- concentrate on resting and coming home with me.
Hayley: Mateo --
Adam: No, no. Don't -- don't worry about Mateo. I got rid of him.
Hayley: I want to see him. Please?
Adam: Why?
Hayley: He saved my life.
Hayley: Mateo knew I was in trouble. He -- he did my breathing for me.
Adam: Ok. All right, sweetheart, I'll -- I'll be right outside if you need me. Is there anything I can do?
Hayley: Kiss. I want to be alone with Mateo.
Adam: Ok. I'll be close by.

Joe: You're a very fortunate young woman.
Hayley: I know.

Janet: Is Amanda asleep?
Tiffany: Well, it took some doing, but she finally conked out a little while ago. She wanted to wait up for you and Mr. D.
Janet: I'm not sure when Trevor will be home.
Jack: Did Trevor stop by here, by any chance?
Tiffany: Uh-uh. Excuse me for saying this, but you don't look so good. Do you want me to make you some tea or something?
Jack: Uh, Tiffany, right? Could you come here a second, please? Listen, it's getting kind of late. Why don't you -- why don't you go ahead and go on home, ok?
Tiffany: Thanks.
Jack: Sure.
Tiffany: You know, Mr. Montgomery, you really out to stop by the glam sometime for a manicure. Your cuticles are a cry for help.
Jack: All right. I will do that as soon as I can. Thank you very much. You drive safely, now.
Tiffany: Thanks. You take care, Mrs. D.

Janet: Where did he go, Jack? Where could he be?
Jack: I don't know where Trevor is, Janet. And I have no idea what the hell's going through his head right now. Sit down. Please. Trevor wanted you back here to keep Amanda safe. Keeping you two out of harm's way -- that's his top priority. I think it should be yours, too.
Janet: But what about Trevor? I mean, what if he runs into some rookie cop that wants to make a name for himself, that tries to be a hero? You know how Trevor is.
Jack: Yeah.
Janet: You push him too hard, he pushes back.
Jack: I know, I know.
Janet: He could get killed.
Jack: Trevor's going to be ok. He can take care of himself, ok? Listen, will you be ok if I leave you here alone for a couple hours?
Janet: Where you going?
Jack: I think maybe back to the police station, just in case.
Janet: You think Trevor might come back there? You think he might turn himself in?
Jack: And send the mother of his child to prison for the rest of her life? I don't think so.
Janet: Why did he do it?
Jack: I think you know why.
Hey, kiddo.
Amanda: Mommy?
Janet: Sweetheart. What are you doing up?
Amanda: Where's daddy? Why's Mr. Montgomery here?
Janet: Your father had to take care of something, and Mr. Montgomery's here to bring over some legal papers.
Jack: Right.
Amanda: Is everything ok?
Janet: Yeah.
Amanda: I heard loud voices before. Do you and daddy still love each other?
Janet: Oh, sweetheart, your daddy and I love each other very much. You'd better get back to bed.
Amanda: I want to sleep down here and wait for daddy to come home. Janet: You w
ant me to make you some hot cocoa?
Janet: Sleep, my angel. Dream sweet dreams. Your daddy's safe. And he loves you with all his heart.
Trevor: You got that right, babe.
Janet: Trevor, I --
Trevor: Shh.
Janet: Why did you do it? Why did you make that phony confession?
Trevor: That dead body was tied to you. And I don't want my daughter's mother spending the rest of her life behind bars.
Janet: Well, what about her father? You know, disappearing isn't going to solve anything.
Trevor: It'll keep the cops from sniffing around you. Play a little dodge ball, stay low. Keep them running as far away from you as possible.
Janet: How long will you be gone?
Trevor: I don't know.
Janet: A week? Two?
Trevor: Look, uh, they're changing shifts at the Pine Valley police department, so it's going to be a couple of minutes before Derek starts staking out the place.
Janet: I can't let you go.
Trevor: Got to, babe. Look, you didn't trust me with the dope on Sophie, but you got to trust me now with your life and with Amanda's life.
Janet: I wanted to tell you about Sophie. I was afraid. She said she'd hurt Amanda. She said she was going to come after you with a crowbar!
Trevor: Hey, hey, it's over. She can't hurt you now. She can't hurt you now, babe. If I'd have known what was going down, I'd have handled it. Keeping you safe, watching over you -- that's my job. And you were doing your job -- looking out for our little girl. And you got to keep doing it. You got to be strong for Amanda, be brave for Amanda.
Janet: But what about you? What will you do? Where will you go?
Trevor: Don't worry about me.
Trevor: I got to get moving.
Janet: No. I can't let you go. I can't let you go!

Jack: So, any word on Trevor?
Derek: Don't be cute, Jack. You and I both know what's going down here.
Jack: Yeah, I know exactly what's going down. He's playing out the only option he has, Derek.
Derek: You don't believe that.
Jack: I tell you what I believe -- the same thing that Trevor said right in front of you -- you do what you got to do and he's going to do what he's got to do.
Derek: You know me, Jack. I'm going to do my damnedest to bring him in.
Jack: Never going to happen, Derek. Trevor knows how to disappear. He's not going to be found till he wants to be found.

[Telephone rings]

Derek: Talk to me. Where? You have an eyewitness?

Edmund: Dimitri knew, didn't he? About your illness.
Alex: I saw no reason to keep anything from him. He was wonderful about it. He really took it in his stride, as I knew he would.
Edmund: You know, my brother had a habit of rising to the occasion.
Alex: He had a book he loved -- "The Go-Between." You know it? L.P. Hartley?
Edmund: Uh-uh.
Alex: Well, the first line of it is really pretty shattering. "The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there." He felt that that applied to everyone, that we're like tourists revisiting places in our lives. But the only place that we can actually live is now, the present. You know?
Edmund: He believed that. But he also knew that the past shapes us.
Alex: I was in a hospital several years.
Edmund: I won't ask why you got there.
Alex: Good, because I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I remember being there. I can see myself sitting next to a window with a cardigan on my shoulders. And I remember my hands. My hands. They were always like -- my nails were chipped, like I kept biting them. The smell. That stink. That disinfectant -- but I don't know why I was there or how long I was there. That's pretty rich, isn't it? I'm a trained neurologist, and I have no idea how I lost my own mind. Or how to get my memories back.
Edmund: Then you've tried?
Alex: Yeah. Yeah, recently.
Edmund: Ok. You know, the -- the flashbacks you've been having? The clocks chiming maybe there's a connection.
Alex: Yes! The man, this Geoffrey -- why I pushed David down the stairs -- I'm constantly -- I'm anxious all the time because I feel like I'm losing it again.
Edmund: You're not losing it again. Alex, you are not crazy, ok? But I know what it's like to have something from your past come back and bite you. Now, maybe we can catch it before it grabs a hold.
Alex: "We"?
Edmund: Yeah. Yeah, we. You want to solve this mystery? I'm your man

Hayley: You risked your life to save mine. And like my dad said, wasn't the first time.
Mateo: Look, don't -- don't make me out to be some kind of hero, ok?
Hayley: You are my hero.
Mateo: No, listen, I -- I got there. I saw your car. I mean, I saw the place was on fire. You know the cop outside said the place was empty?
Hayley: You didn't believe him.
Mateo: No. I knew it. I knew you had to be in there.
Hayley: Thank you. Thank you. I thought it was over. I thought I was going to die alone in there. I said a prayer, and an angel came to me. And the angel was you. And I saw everything so clearly. I saw myself next to you. And I was holding your hand. There is no me without you. And there's no you without me. That's the miracle of us. We live for each other.

Alex: What exactly do you have in mind?
Edmund: I just want to help you.
Alex: How?
Edmund: Talking. Get a stream of consciousness going and just see what floats up to the surface.
Alex: This man -- this --
Edmund: Geoffrey? Anything else you might have repressed?
Alex: He's the key, right?
Edmund: Maybe. Alex, maybe -- maybe you suffered some kind of trauma early on, somebody, someone hurt you. Hurt you real bad. So bad that you just buried it in your subconscious.
Alex: Yeah.
Edmund: Yeah. Look, I'm a writer. That makes me an amateur shrink. You know, I live so much of the time in my head, I -- it's an occupational hazard. But what I'm trying to tell you is that I've been there and I've grappled with some demons, and I wouldn't wish that hell on anybody -- least of all my brother's wife. So what do you say? You want to come with me on this journey? You want to search for the truth, you and me, together? And I swear to God, I won't let you down.
Alex: No. No. The past is best left where it is. I don't want to go there. It's not safe.

Jake: Welcome home.

Janet: I can't let you go. You're my whole life. You're what I live for.
Trevor: Your life is snoring little baby snores right on that couch. Now, look, someday, somehow I'm going to get the Dillon family back together. But until then, your life goes on, you hear me?
Janet: How?
Trevor: It just does. I'll be out there on the road. I'll be checking in on you. When it's 7:00 In the morning, I'll know you and Amanda are out there walking the dog. When it's 7:00 At night, I'll know you'll be sitting down and helping her with her math homework. When the clock strikes 11:00 And you're putting your head down on the pillow, I'll come and give you a kiss good night. Got to keep me in there, babe, warm and safe until I get home. You hear me? Hmm? You got that?
Janet: Yeah.
Trevor: Now, look, I called Tim in Paris. He knows what's going down. He knows not to make a move until I give him the green light.
Trevor: Hey, Amanda. Boy, she's some piece of work, isn't she? Kid's got lot of moxie. Got a double shot from the both of us. And that's good. But it's not going to be enough. You got to be strong for her. You hear me? You promise me?
Janet: I will be strong. I give you my word.
Trevor: Oh. Hey, sweetheart. Your daddy loves you.
Trevor: Ok. This is it. Got to go.
Janet: I love you, Trevor Dillon.
Trevor: I love you, Mrs. Dillon. What a babe.

Adam: That's unbelievable.
Joe: What?
Adam: I just talked to Derek Frye to get an update on that fire that almost killed my daughter.
Joe: And?
Adam: There is an armed manhunt ongoing for Trevor Dillon. Derek says that he killed a woman and then set the fire to destroy the evidence.
Joe: I don't believe that.
Adam: There's a witness placing him at the scene. And he's running. He's a wanted fugitive. I think I'll issue an APB myself with a bounty attached.
Joe: Look, hold on. Don't under any -- don't tell this to Hayley. She's under enough stress.
Adam: Oh, come on, I'm not a monster.
Joe: Yeah.
Adam: The needs of my children come first with me, doctor.
Joe: Fine, fine. I mean, but just when she does learn about it, it's going to be a big shock, so I rely on your discretion.
Adam: Oh, well, do you trust me to kiss her good night?
Joe: Don't take too long, though. She needs her rest.
Adam: Uh -- I'm sorry to interrupt. I just wanted to say good night. Sweetheart, are you all right?
Hayley: I'm better than I have been in forever.
Adam: Mateo, the doctor cautioned she still needs her rest.
Mateo: Yeah. I'm not ready yet. I'm not letting her go.
Hayley: I'm never going to let you go.
Mateo: You know, I mean that. You're stuck with me.
Mateo: I love you.
Hayley: I love you.

Adam: Oh, Gillian, Gillian, Gillian. My beautiful coward. You just couldn't tell smirk boy the truth, could you? That Colby isn't his little princess. She's mine.
Gillian: How can I break his heart? We love each other.
Adam: Oh. That's too, too touching. Until the day comes when he realizes you've been keeping a nasty little secret. How much do you think he'll love you then?

Edmund: You know, my life has been filled with rejection. And I'll accept yours gracefully. But just so you know -- the offer stands, ok?
Alex: No.
Edmund: Just in case you want.
Alex: I don't want.
Edmund: It's your call. Good night.
Alex: Edmund? It's not that I'm being ungrateful.
Edmund: It's not that I don't care.

Amanda: Mommy?
Janet: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you up.
Amanda: Don't cry. I had a dream. Daddy was here. He said we're going to be ok. Not exactly like that. He said, "no worries, kid."
Janet: That sounds just like your father.
Amanda: He loves us very, very much. And he said no matter what, we're going to be a family forever and ever.
