ALL MY CHILDREN

JANUARY 19, 2000

Marian: It's got to be here somewhere. Where'd he put it?
Adam: What are you doing, Marian?
Marian: Oh! Oh. I was looking for a paper to leave a note for you.
Adam: Really? About when Liza's coming home?
Marian: No, about Stuart and I borrowing your golf clubs for this afternoon.
Adam: It's 30 degrees outside.
Marian: We're going to dress warmly.
Adam: You are a miserable liar, Marian. If only I could've locked you in that safe room. You'd be nothing more than an annoying memory by now. When is Liza coming home?
Marian: I have no idea, darling.
Adam: I think you do. I think she would've told you before she told the Martins.
Marian: The Martins?
Adam: That's right. I learned from them that Liza's coming home today.
Marian: Oh, really?
Adam: Really. So, you tell me, why shouldn't I grab you by the neck and squeeze and end your lies once and for all?

Leo: Glass of wine, Millicent?
Millicent: Oh, no, I couldn't. This tea is perfect. I'm saving myself for Vanessa's dinner party tonight.
Leo: Is Greenlee looking forward to this evening?
Millicent: Well, of course. You two make such a handsome couple. Not to mention that other gorgeous son of yours, the cardiac genius, who I'm looking forward to seeing tonight. We do have such splendid offspring. N'est-ce pas, cheri?
Vanessa: Oui, oui. And Palmer, too. You know, I did ask him to fly in his daughter, Nina, who's a darling girl -- oh, from what I've heard. But, alas, she has the flu.
Millicent: Oh, what a pity. Well, maybe you'll do it again when she's feeling better.
Vanessa: Oh, I certainly hope so.
Millicent: I nearly forgot. I have something for you for the party.
Vanessa: Really? What?
Millicent: Oh, you'll see. I have it in the trunk of my car. Actually, I couldn't manage on my own to bring it in. Leo, would you be a dear and help me bring it in?
Vanessa: Of course he will.
Leo: Avec plaisir, Madame.

Vanessa: David. I didn't see you come in.
David: Well, that's because I came in before you. Vanessa. Did you say something?
David: I thought it was to my advantage to wait and see, and evidently I was right. You promised my presence at your little soiree tonight without asking me?
Vanessa: Well, I was going to leave you a message right after --
David: I'm sorry to disappoint you, mother, but I wouldn't show up if your dress was on fire and I had the last glass of water in town.
Palmer: Hey. Ooh, sorry.

Ryan: Oh. That's on me. Thank you, Bill.
Bill: Thank you.
Ryan: And you can hold onto these rates.
Bill: Terrific.
Ryan: I have a feeling you'll be calling me real soon.
Bill: Look forward to it.
Ryan: Thanks. Drive safe.
Bill: Thanks.

Greenlee: You just scored another client for WRCW?
Ryan: Hey.
Greenlee: Hey.
Ryan: Yeah. I think he liked the rates I offered him.
Greenlee: Oh, really? You're really good at what you do, aren't you?
Ryan: Well --
Greenlee: But you're even better at a lot of other things.
Ryan: Hmm. So, how was your day so far?
Greenlee: Horrible. Terrible. Hayley never showed up for work.
Ryan: What?
Greenlee: She -- I don't know. She didn't even call in sick or anything. Pretty irresponsible if you ask me. And --
Ryan: I'm sure --
Greenlee: My trainer broke his leg. And the car that I was supposed to get is not going to be delivered because the ship it was on ran aground or something and it's coming from Germany.
Ryan: Aw.
Greenlee: So, I thought that since you're here and I'm here that maybe I could cheer myself up with a little afternoon delight.
Ryan: Oh, really?
Greenlee: Yeah.
Ryan: Well, I have stuff to do at the studio, so maybe we can hook up after work.
Greenlee: No, I -- I can't. I promised Gran I'd go to some stupid dinner party the Cortlandt's are throwing at the Valley Inn.
Ryan: Oh.
Greenlee: But would it be any incentive if I told you I have a little present for you? Something that you can't open here.
Ryan: You don't have to buy me presents, Greenlee.
Greenlee: I couldn't resist. Please? Meet me at the loft in 10 minutes?
Ryan: Oh, I got to make some phone calls. What do you say -- 30 minutes? Here. Take these and let yourself in.
Greenlee: Wow. So very trusting.
Ryan: That's me.

Janet: Who was I talking to?
Amanda: Uh-huh.
Janet: You must have heard the radio from the kitchen.
Amanda: Mommy, you always told me it's wrong to tell a fib, and I think you're fibbing right now.
Janet: Well, I -- I --
Amanda: And don't bother making up another story because I actually know what you were doing.
Janet: You do?V Amanda: You were talking to that mirror.
Janet: You think I talk to the mirror?
Amanda: And I know why.
Janet: You do?
Amanda: You're so used to having daddy around to talk to about grown-up stuff. And now that he's gone, you still need somebody to talk to. So you talk to yourself in the mirror. Am I right?
Janet: You're right. Pretty silly, huh?
Amanda: I don't think so. I do it all the time.
Janet: How come you know so much?
Amanda: You and daddy taught me.
Janet: I love you so much. Do you know that?
Amanda: I know, and I love you, too, mommy. But if you ever need somebody to talk to, I'm always here. Because, you know, mirrors don't talk back. Right?
Janet: Right.
Amanda: And I know I'm just a kid and all, but I can help out with some things.
Janet: I think you can help out a lot. You're very wise for your years.
Amanda: Thank you.
Janet: And you're very brave and very courageous. And you must have a billion questions about your daddy.
Amanda: Remember when I told you he came to me in my dreams? And he said he could take care of us forever, and I believe him because daddy never lies to us.

[Doorbell rings]

Amanda: I'll get it.
Janet: Amanda --
Amanda: Don't worry. I know what to do. Who is it?
Brooke: It's Brooke and Jamie.
Jamie: Hi.
Brooke: Hi, sweetie.
Janet: Hi. Did I forget about a play date?
Brooke: Oh, no. Listen, I'm sorry. I really should've called first. You know, if this is a bad time, it's --
Janet: No. Actually, I'm sure Amanda would be glad to have a friend over. Why don't you and Jamie go in the kitchen and have some of those chocolate chip muffins we made?
Jamie: Yeah. Then can we play with Smokey?
Amanda: Sure.
Janet: Just be sure and stay in the back yard. And stay bundled up.
Amanda: Ok.

Janet: Oh. Where's your stuff?
Hayley: My stuff?
Janet: Yeah. I just figured since you and Mateo were getting back together, you'd be moving into the condo.
Hayley: We talked about that, and I just -- well we thought that it would be better if we, you know, didn't rush into anything.
Mateo: Yeah. Just going to take it easy, you know?
Hayley: Do you mind if I stay here a little while longer?
Janet: Not at all. I'd appreciate the support.
Mateo: Listen -- I got to go to the club, set up.
Hayley: Yeah.
Mateo: I'll see you later?
Hayley: You bet.
Mateo: Ok. Bye.
Hayley: Bye.
Brooke: See you, Mateo.
Mateo: Bye-bye.

Brooke: Listen, Janet, I'm really sorry about what happened.
Janet: So am I. Oh, Trevor --
Brooke: He called me this morning. That's why I came over.

Vanessa: Couldn't you at least just put in an appearance tonight? I mean, call it a special favor to me.
David: Why would you even want me there, Vanessa?
Palmer: Well, what do you think? You don't have to enjoy yourself. Just show up. Family obligation at that.
David: You don't honestly think that we're going to sell that piece of fiction to the Greenlee's, do you? They may be on the verge of senility, but even they're not going to buy that.
Vanessa: Oh, David. David, like it or not, you are my son and Leo happens to be your brother and my blood does roam through both your veins.
David: No, I would say it roams a little bit more in his veins than mine. Especially by the way that you spoil him, Vanessa. Do you really think that you're doing him a favor? The kid is shallow. He's opportunistic --
Palmer: Now, just hold it --
David: He's got as much --
Palmer: Now just -- I mean, can't you put your grudges aside just for one moment and be a little gracious? Vanessa is the first one to admit that she's made mistakes. But, I mean, as to rectify them -- she's trying. Aren't you, darling?
Vanessa: Yes.
Palmer: Why can't you?
David: Don't you have any pride, Vanessa? Begging me to make nice to some dowager idiot and some dimwitted husband of hers?
Vanessa: You know, David, even I can remember being so arrogant when I was young and how easy it was. But when you get to be my age, my dear, you realize how important it is to become a part of the community.
David: Oh, please. Spare me the campaign speech, will you?

Vanessa: Oh, and what is this?
Millicent: I had my gardener put it together for your centerpiece.
Leo: Where would you like this, mother?
Vanessa: Oh, my, I -- I don't know. Ask the maitre d', darling, and ask him where he'll be setting up the table. Oh. Oh.
Millicent: I'm so looking forward to talking to you tonight, Dr. Hayward. I want to hear all about the wonderful work you'll be doing with Dr. Marick on the Andrassy foundation.

Scott: What's that?
Greenlee: Oh! God -- Scott. Why aren't you at your surprise party?
Scott: Huh?
Greenlee: Oops. I think I just l the kitty out of the bag. Becca will kill me.

Marian: I'll give you two good reasons why you can't choke me, Adam -- Liza and Stuart -- because they'd never forgive you. Course, Liza's already chosen never to forgive and forget anyway.
Adam: You don't know that.
Marian: Oh, yes, I do. Just like I knew she was coming home today.
Adam: I have every right to know her comings and goings. I'm Colby's father, damn it.
Marian: Not legally. You have nothing to do with that little girl. And if you don't believe me, ask Barry Shire.
Barry: Ask me what?
Marian: Oh!
Barry: I'm sorry to interrupt, but Adam asked me to meet him here.
Marian: It's not important. Anyway, I've got a client to meet at the Valley Inn. Excuse me.

Adam: Damn that woman. Damn her. She's the reason I'm in this mess.
Barry: Oh, I don't think I'd go that far. Well, you're the one who switched the sperm samples, Adam.
Adam: That woman -- everything would've been fine if she hadn't locked me in that safe room. I would have my wife. I would have my daughter. My own brother wouldn't have turned against me. That meddlesome witch -- she's cost me everything I hold dear.
Barry: So -- have you figured out how you're going to take away what she loves most?
Adam: Not just her. Not just Marian. I told you --
Barry: No, I know, I know. Tad, Jake -- the whole list.
Adam: Yeah, well, let's start with Marian. That's why I called you here. We both know that Marian's weakness is sex. In her past -- her past --
Barry: It's legendary. Yes, I know. But that was before she met Stuart.
Adam: She hasn't changed. We just have to put temptation in her path.
Barry: You want to destroy her marriage?
Adam: Oh, yes, I do. And you, Barry, are the bait.
Barry: Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no, no. Count me out.
Adam: Barry, Barry, Barry, come on. She's not that bad-looking. Well, she's not my type, of course, but -- with all her experience, she must be a tigress in the bedroom. You of all people should know that.
Barry: Adam, I have done a lot of things at your bidding that I am not proud of, but I draw the line here.
Adam: What's gotten into you? First you refuse to break into David Hayward's office, and now this? When did you develop a conscience?
Barry: I like Stuart. He's a good man. I feel bad enough about helping you swindle him out of his WRCW stock. I am not about to break up his home.
Adam: Stuart will be better off without her.
Barry: That's another reason why it wouldn't work. I mean, Marian wouldn't give me second look now. She's furious with me.
Adam: Oh, come on. Don't sell yourself short. You can be almost charming when you set your mind to it.
Barry: Flattery will not change my mind, either. Now, look, Adam, I am sorry. Fire me if you want. But count me out.
Adam: Fine. I'll just have to find somebody else to do it. She said she was meeting someone at the Valley Inn.
Barry: I believe she mentioned a client, yes.
Adam: Yes, follow her. Who knows? Maybe she's having an affair already.
Barry: No, no, no, you -- don't look at me. You're on your own with this one.
Adam: Oh, I see. Fine. I'm deeply disappointed in you, Barry. Don't cross me again.

David: Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you, Millicent, darling, but as much as I would love to talk about the Andrassy foundation tonight, I do have to get back to the hospital.
Millicent: Oh, of course. I know you're very much in demand. Don't let me keep you.
David: Good evening. Enjoy your affair.

Palmer: Oh. All right. Millicent, please.
Vanessa: Sit.

Palmer: You. Got to talk to you.
David: Don't bother following me, Palmer. I have no intention of playing trained monkey to further Vanessa's social aspirations.
Palmer: I'm not suggesting that you do that, but at least you could try to act like a brother to Leo.
David: Why bother? It's not as if Vanessa thought it was necessary to tell me the kid existed until a few weeks ago.
Palmer: Yeah, I'm aware of that.
David: I mean, what -- what influence could I possibly have on this kid, Palmer? Vanessa's spent a lifetime forming him into her likeness. I mean, he's slick. He's insincere. He's totally without ambition -- unless, of course, it's to spend other people's money.
Palmer: Yeah, I agree with you there. That's why I want your help -- hey -- before it's too late.

Vanessa: Honestly, honestly, I swear you have your own topiary man, probably.
Millicent: Well, I do, I do.
Vanessa: No. No, really?

Waiter: I'll go find the maitre d'.
Leo: All right.
Marian: Oh! Oh, I'm so sorry. How clumsy of me. I'm terribly sorry.
Leo: No, I'm the clumsy one. I once bumped into a duke and knocked the poor old guy into a three-foot wide bowl of trifle.
Marian: Oh, you're kidding?
Leo: Leo Du Pres, a votre service.
Marian: Oh, I'm Marian Chandler. How do you do?
Leo: Oh, enchante.
Marian: Oh, dear, I got water all over you. Please come on over and sit down. Let me at least try to dry you off. I'm so sorry. What a clumsy idiot I am. Oh, you're really wet. I'm so sorry.

Mateo: Hey.
Ryan: Hey.
Mateo, how's it going?
Mateo: Good. Good. I wanted to come by and tell you that -- you know how you told me -- I was waiting for Hayley last night and you told me that she went to go see Janet at that warehouse?
Ryan: Yeah.
Mateo: And I thought the whole thing sounded kind of weird, so I went there -- you know, I took off to find her?
Ryan: Right.
Mateo: Well, when I got there, the whole place was up in flames. The cops were there. They found a body inside and, you know, nobody had seen Hayley.
Ryan: What? Was she in there?
Mateo: She was in there. She was trapped under a shelf -- it was of paint or -- anyway, I saw her car outside. And if I hadn't, I wouldn't have put two and two together.
Ryan: Thank God you went over there.
Mateo: Yeah. And, well, you know, you're the one who told me about it, so --
Ryan: Hey, listen. You're the one who went into a burning building. I don't get any credit here.
Mateo: Yeah. I'm just trying to say thanks.
Ryan: You're we
lcome.
Mateo: Ok. Ryan: But she's all right? She didn't have to go to the hospital or anything?
Mateo: Just overnight -- you know, precaution, stuff like that. She's going to be fine.
Ryan: Wow. Sounds like you got there just in time.
Mateo: Yeah, I guess so.
Ryan: You know, I knew she shouldn't have gone there alone. I feel kind of responsible.
Mateo: Come on. You know Hayley. Like you can tell her to do anything.
Ryan: Yeah, well, I'm sure she's very grateful.
Mateo: Yeah. I guess, you know, we see things more clearly now. You know, kind of makes all that stuff that went down between us -- I don't know -- irrelevant.

Hayley: He called you? From where?
Brooke: I don't know. Some gas station somewhere.
Janet: What did he say?
Brooke: He just called because he wanted to check and make sure that you and Amanda were ok.
Janet: I guess he's afraid to call here.
Hayley: Well, yeah. I'm sure he thinks that the phones are tapped.
Janet: He's so unselfish. Brooke, Amanda and I are ok, really.
Brooke: I tell you, it's just a hard thing to grasp. I mean, I know Trevor was a mercenary at one point in his life, but, you know, to think that he killed that woman with a crowbar.
Hayley: I'm sure it was in self-defense. Don't you think, Janet?
Janet: I -- I really would rather not talk about it.
Brooke: Janet, I -- I'm -- I'm really sorry.
Janet: It's ok.
Brooke: I didn't mean to be insensitive.
Janet: I'm just -- I'm going to check on the kids.

Hayley: Something doesn't add up here.
Brooke: You feel that, too?
Hayley: Well, Uncle Trevor's been saying for a while now that he's really concerned with the way she's been acting.
Brooke: Well, he said that she's been very stressed ever since Derek first asked her about the woman that was found dead.
Hayley: Sophie, her old cellmate.
Brooke: The thing is Trevor would never have tangled with this Sophie without informing the police, would he?
Hayley: I don't think so. But that's not the only thing. Here's the thing -- he didn't set up the meeting at the warehouse with that woman.
Brooke: He didn't?
Hayley: Uh-uh. Janet did.
Brooke: Well, how do you know that?
Hayley: Because I accidentally -- I have this voice-activated tape recorder that picked up her whole conversation with that woman.
Brooke: So, then, how did Trevor end up there?
Hayley: I left him a message.
Brooke: You know the thing that's the strangest thing is the -- is the crowbar. I mean, why would -- why would he have a crowbar?
Hayley: Maybe he didn't bring the crowbar.
Brooke: Do you think he's protecting her, protecting Janet?
Hayley: I hate to say it, but it makes perfect sense.
Brooke: Well, it's obvious that, you know, she's not going to tell us what happened.
Hayley: Well, I think that there -- there could be a way of getting her to talk.
Brooke: Like how?
Hayley: Well, I mean, we all know that, you know, Janet -- Amanda and Trevor are her whole life. I mean, she loves them like nothing else.
Brooke: Yeah.

[Door closes]

Hayley: So -- shh. Ok. Don't say anything. I'll do all the talking. I'll get her to open up.

Janet: Amanda's showing Jamie her pogo stick she got for Christmas.
Brooke: Oh, great.
Janet: I don't think it's really sunk in yet, what's happened.
Brooke: How much does she know?
Janet: She saw the morning paper with Trevor's picture plastered all over it.
Brooke: Oh. What did you tell her?
Janet: That her daddy's trying to protect us. And then Hayley and Mateo showed up before I could really get into it.
Hayley: You know, I wish I knew who whacked me when I walked in that warehouse.
Janet: Well, it must have been Sophie.
Hayley: Yeah, but -- but you were supposed to meet her there, right? So, where were you?
Janet: I decided not to go at the last minute.
Brooke: So, you mean, Trevor went instead?
Janet: No.
Hayley: So, you had no idea he was going there?
Janet: No. I had no idea. I -- look, I -- I really -- I can't talk about this.
Hayley: I'm sorry. I'm just trying to put it all together in my mind.
Janet: It's all my fault. If I hadn't gone to prison in the first place, never would have met Sophie and then she never would have singled out this family to stalk and harass!
Hayley: So he knew?
Janet: About what?
Hayley: About the stalking and harassing. Is that what drove him to do this?
Janet: I didn't say anything like that.
Hayley: You didn't have to. I'm sorry. I just -- I thought I knew my uncle. It turns out I never knew him at all.
Janet: What is that supposed to mean?

Ryan: So, I -- I hear you and Hayley are working things out? I'm happy to hear that. I'm happy to hear that, you know, you guys are happy.
Mateo: Yeah. You know, we have a lot of work to do, but I think it's going to happen.
Ryan: Good. I mean, I know it -- it sounds a little weird coming from me, but I always -- I always knew in my gut that you guys, you know, we're going to --
Mateo: Yeah. Yeah, you're right. It sounds kind of weird. So let's just t -- you know --
Ryan: Yeah. Ok.
Mateo: Yeah.
Ryan: How is she dealing with this whole Trevor thing?
Mateo: Oh, she -- she thinks he's innocent. You know?
Ryan: Makes sense.
Mateo: Yeah, but what doesn't make sense is that -- you know, Trevor would never do something like that. I mean, what -- he confesses to the murder and then he just takes off.
Ryan: After doing a stint in jail, I can understand that.
Mateo: Yeah, I know that, but it's not like him, you know? He's -- he's a lawyer. He was an ex-cop.
Ryan: Didn't he used to be a mercenary?
Mateo: Sure, but he has a family. Doesn't that change everything? I mean, why would he want to leave his family?
Ryan: Oh. You know what, man? I would love to talk, but I really --
Mateo: Right. Yeah, yeah, sure.
Ryan: I got to go see somebody.
Mateo: Sorry -- sorry to keep you. Ryan: N
o, not at all. I'm glad we had a chance to --
Mateo: Right.
Ryan: Talk.
Mateo: And I just -- I wanted to say thanks for -- for everything, you know.
Ryan: Take it easy.
Mateo: Yeah.

Scott: So, Becca's throwing a surprise party for me?
Greenlee: I'm sorry. I can't believe I just blurted that out.
Scott: No, you're not.
Greenlee: Not what?
Scott: Sorry. You meant to do that.
Greenlee: Why is it that you always think the worst of me?
Scott: Well, because it's usually an accurate way to read you.
Greenlee: Well, then, it's just as well that I dumped you.
Scott: Excuse me?
Greenlee: All right, I didn't dump you, but I definitely don't want it getting out that I lost you to that human quilting bee.
Scott: You never lost me because you never had me.
Greenlee: It depends on how you define "had."
Scott: You never had me. I never had you. So no one got dumped.
Greenlee: So that's your story and you're sticking to it?
Scott: You got it.
Greenlee: Actually, I should be buying you a present, too.
Scott: What, you mean that's not for me?
Greenlee: No. It's for Ryan. But if you hadn't made a play for Becca, I wouldn't have been free to hook up with him, and, frankly, he and I are much better suited than you and I ever were. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he popped the question come Valentine's Day.
Scott: Really?
Greenlee: Why do you seem so surprised?
Scott: Well, because he -- he told me you guys were pretty much just bed pals.
Greenlee: Of course he's going to say that. He's just trying to make you jealous.
Scott: And why would he want to do that?
Greenlee: You know, you're really wasting your time playing 20 questions.
Scott: Uh-huh.
Greenlee: And Ryan should be here any minute, so --
Scott: Yeah. No problem. I'm leaving. But if it's all the same to you, I'm going to pretend you never told me about the party, ok?
Greenlee: What party?

Marian: Oh, there. It's a little bit better. I'm so sorry. I just --
Leo: You have the most beautiful hands.
Marian: Oh. Well, I did before I broke my wrist.
Leo: I can always tell a lot about a woman from her hands. Yours seem to be gentle and artistic.
Marian: Well, I don't do dishes, if that's what you mean, and my husband does all the gardening.
Leo: Why is it the good ones are always taken? You know, if I were 10 years older, I'd give him a run for his money.
Marian: Oh, really?
Leo: Yeah, really.
Marian: Well, you could try, but I don't think anyone could break me away from my darling Stuart.
Leo: Oh, that's too bad.

[Marian laughs]

Adam: He'll do.

Leo: Oh, here comes the maitre d'. I better get going. It was wonderful meeting you, really.
Marian: You, too, darling.
Leo: Ok. Bye-bye.
Marian: Bye. I'd better go find my client.

Adam: Excuse me. You know who I am?
Leo: Well, of course. You're Adam Chandler, the guy who doles out millions to the masses.
Adam: Well, you're half right. I was wondering if we could have a little chat. I have a good feeling about you.

Ryan: Greenlee?
Greenlee: Ahoy, Matey. Give me a kiss or I'll make you walk the plank.
Ryan: Ah. What's with all this?
Greenlee: It's a theme day.
Ryan: Ah -- theme day.
Greenlee: Mm-hmm.
Ryan: And what's the theme?
Greenlee: Doesn't the cap give you a hint?
Ryan: No.
Greenlee: Batten the hatches? I forget what the yardarm thing is.
Ryan: I have no idea what you're talking about.
Greenlee: It's escape from Pine Valley day.
Ryan: Oh, escape from Pine Valley day.
Greenlee: Yeah.
Ryan: Oh.
Greenlee: Remember that dream that you told me about?
Ryan: No.
Greenlee: The one that you said you wanted to sail around the world and leave all the bad stuff behind you?
Ryan: Yes, I do, vaguely.
Greenlee: Well, now's your chance. Open your present. Hmm?
Ryan: What -- all right.
Greenlee: Just lift it up.
Ryan: What?
Greenlee: Just lift it up.
Ryan: Like --
Greenlee: Yeah.
Ryan: Ok.
Ryan: Greenlee, this is -- how cool is that? It's a sloop, right?
Greenlee: Yeah. Note the number of portholes. The master stateroom is up here. There's another stateroom, sleeps two. A dining salon, fully-equipped galley, all teak decks, twin Volvo penta engines.
Ryan: This is -- this is so nice. Now, why is there no name on the stern?
Greenlee: Well, I thought you should name it since it's yours.
Ryan: You know what I'm going to do is I'm going to take it down to Willow Lake in the springtime and see if it actually floats.
Greenlee: It floats. So, do I get that kiss, or do I make you walk the plank?

Millicent: Well, I have to dash, darling. I'm expected at the hairdresser's.
Vanessa: Oh, yes, of course. Well, until tonight, then.
Millicent: Yes. And the sweetest part is that Greenlee will be coming with your lovely son.
Vanessa: Oh.
Millicent: We had a very close call. You know, that Lavery boy was accused of rape.
Vanessa: Yes, I did hear all about it. Oh, dear. Let me walk you out.

Palmer: So, as much as I disagree with the way Vanessa's raised Leo --
David: You would like me to befriend him, guide him toward a more productive lifestyle?
Palmer: Yes, if you could.
David: Well, frankly, Palmer, I don't think anybody could. The kid seems set in his profligate ways.
Palmer: He seems to want to settle down here in Pine Valley. I mean, that is a change.
David: Oh -- ok. Now I get it. You're worried that he might become a liability to you. Is that it? Cause some scandal? Perhaps even embezzle from your company?
Palmer: Crossed my mind.
David: Hmm. So you want me to be a watchdog for you, huh? Now, isn't that priceless?
Palmer: Not really. You know, I helped you in your desire to become the co-director of the Andrassy foundation. Now it's time for you to repay that favor.
David: Really?
Palmer: Yes, really.
David: Hmm.
Palmer: You know, Leo is used to, well, taking advantage of people who are sucked in by his superficial charm. Well, I don't want him crossing me and forcing my hand and upsetting Vanessa.
David: Well, let him know where his loyalty lies.
Palmer: Mm-hmm. Well, I think it would be more effective if it came from you.
David: I'll just tell him to follow your lead, Palmer. I'm sure, given the right amount of cash, baby Leo would be very much cooperative.
Palmer: Yes, I'm sure. However, I don't -- I don't think I could ever become a role model for Leo -- no -- even if I wanted to. But you? No, you're different. I think you could at least make some kind of effort to be an older and a wiser brother.
David: Did Vanessa put you up to this, Palmer?
Palmer: No, no, no. Not at all. I just think you could set a good example for him. After all, you are ambitious, you are driven, and you're successful. Leo is going around in circles. God knows he'll never make anything of himself this way. So it's up to you and me to guide him in the right direction. And it sure the hell isn't the direction of Adam Chandler, and you know what I mean.

Adam: Chandler Enterprises is always looking for people like you.
Leo: And what am I, exactly?
Adam: Well, you're bright, personable, adventurous. I'll bet you like taking risks. Am I right?
Leo: For the most part.
Adam: Yes, I thought so. Here. Call my secretary. Make an appointment. We'll talk about this in greater detail when I have more time. All right?
Leo: Absolutely. Thank you.
Adam: Of course.

David: Better count your fingers, kid. Make sure you still have all 10.

Hayley: I never thought that Uncle Trevor would be capable of murder. I just thought that those days -- his mercenary days -- were behind him is all. I didn't think he would be capable of taking another life is all I meant.
Brooke: And also after he made such a wonderful home here with you and Amanda and Tim.
Hayley: You would just think that it would change a person.
Brooke: It's just strange to think that he could do something like that to Amanda, you know? I mean, she's going to have to go to school and, you know, see her friends, see her teachers.
Hayley: Maybe it's some kind of posttraumatic stress thing that made him snap.
Brooke: I know it's a terrible thing to take a life.

Image: Janet -- cover your ears. Don't listen to them. Get rid of them before they make you tell.
Janet: No!

Ryan: Greenlee -- whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait, wait, wait, wait. You know what? This really isn't such a good idea. I got clients I got to call and stuff. I really do.
Greenlee: What? This is the thanks I get for making your dreams come true?
Ryan: My -- it's a beautiful model boat. It really is. But come on.
Greenlee: What if -- what if I told you one there was -- there was one bigger and just like it at City Point Marina? Say, about like 40 feet or so?
Ryan: What?
Greenlee: I know is after Christmas, but consider it an early Valentine's Day present.
Ryan: You bought me, like, a boat?
Greenlee: It was just a small portion of my trust fund. My stocks did really well last month, so I had to do a little profit-taking anyway. Come on, come on. Uh -- it -- open that dinghy --
Ryan: What --
Greenlee: Lifeboat thing.
Ryan: This?
Greenlee: Yes.
Ryan: What -- keys.
Greenlee: Dock one, slip A.
Ryan: I can't believe this.
Greenlee: Well, she's all yours, captain. And now you can sail the world to your heart's content whenever you want.
Ryan: There's got to be a catch here. You just don't buy somebody a 40-foot boat.
Greenlee: Well, I don't know if I'd call it a catch, but there is one condition -- you need to take me along as first mate.
Ryan: No. No, no. Greenlee, this -- this is definitely not going to work.

Leo: You're just jealous because the great Adam Chandler sees my potential.
David: Stay away from him, Leo. He'll swallow you whole.

David: What time is your dinner party tonight, Vanessa?
Vanessa: 7:00. Why do you ask?
David: Because I've decided to come.
Vanessa: Really? Well, that's wonderful, darling. What made you change your mind?
David: The Greenlee's are major contributors to the hospital, so I feel I have a responsibility to the foundation to be there. Besides, it'll give me an opportunity to get to know baby brother Leo better.
Palmer: Splendid.
Vanessa: Oh.
David: This dinner feels like a boat ride across the river Styx, but I'll give it my best shot.

Adam: I have just the young hunk to take Marian down. And when that happens, I'll get my wife back with no interference from that harridan.

Marian: Oh, darling, you made it!
Liza: Hi!
Marian: Oh, how was your trip?
Liza: Oh. Good.
Marian: Oh -- and where's Colby?
Liza: Oh, Winifred is helping her out of her snowsuit.
Marian: Oh.
Liza: Where's Adam?
Marian: He just went out.
Liza: Good, because I have a homecoming present for him.

Brooke: Janet, what are you trying to say -- that Trevor didn't kill that woman?
Janet: I can't. I just can't do this anymore.
Hayley: Janet, Janet --
Janet: You don't understand what I'm up against. Doesn't matter what I do or what I say -- she won't stop.
Brooke: What do you mean? Who won't stop?
Janet: The woman in the mirror.
