ALL MY CHILDREN

JANUARY 22, 2001

Gillian: Ryan.
Ryan: How's my little working girl?
Gillian: Oh, I'm tired, but 10 more minutes and I will have made it through my first working day.
Ryan: And to celebrate, can I interest you in a romantic evening on a yacht, preceded by a hot bubble bath?
Gillian: Mmm. That sounds heavenly.
Ryan: I think you should quit right now.
Gillian: Ryan! What -- put me down! What about my boss?
Ryan: Oh, he can have a bubble bath of his own. See you later.

[Gillian laughs]

Gillian: Ryan.

Tad: Hey, kiddo. How you doing? How's the term paper going?
Junior: Oh, I -- I quit working on it. It's not due till next week.
Tad: I don't understand. I thought that was the sole reason that you didn't go over to Brooke's with Jamie.
Junior: I don't know. I just felt like hanging out here.
Tad: Oh. Uh -- well, you know, we still got a couple of those Kung Fu movies that were supposed to go back to the video store, and they're charging us a couple of bucks a day, so, you know, maybe, you know, if you want, you can go squirreling up on my bed and pop one in the machine and stuff.
Junior: Do you want to?
Tad: Uh -- no. I -- I got to stay down here. I was just thinking maybe, you know, if you didn't have anything better to do that you would want to.
Junior: Where's Mom?
Tad: I don't know.
Junior: Is she coming back?
Tad: Yeah, she's coming back.
Junior: She's with Dr. Hayward, isn't she? Something's really wrong, Tad. Tell me.

David: Hey. I didn't know you'd come back.
Dixie: I didn't come back. I'm having some coffee. I'm trying to get warm.
David: Where'd you go?
Dixie: I just walked around.
David: All day? Dixie: I went to a movie.
I walked around some shops downtown. I went by the Glamorama, but the thought of seeing Opal -- so I -- just walked around.
David: So what are you going to do now?
Dixie: I don't know. I should go home. But I'm afraid.
David: Then don't go. Just stay here with me.

Adam: Lieutenant, it's a beastly night out there. Could I offer you a cup of hot cocoa? I know better than to offer you anything stronger, although the bar is open.
Derek: No, I'm fine, thank you. Mateo, I need to ask you some questions.
Adam: How about your men out in the squad car?
Derek: Forget my men. Thank you. Now, it's come to my understanding that your house was broken into last night.
Mateo: Yeah, it was.
Derek: And that your neighbor, Tina Harding, was hurt. And yet, Mateo, you failed to call the police. Now, why is that? What kind of game are you two playing?
Adam: Lieutenant, I don't -- I don't quite understand --
Derek: Well, you know who broke into your house and you know who hurt Tina. It was Arlene. Why are you trying to protect her?

[Music plays]

Bud: You know what I like about you, Arlene?
Hayley: What's that, Bud?
Bud: You smell as good as you look, and you look as good as you feel.
Hayley: Hmm. Well, I guess that just leaves the way I sound and the way I taste. Bud: I was thinking about just that thing.
Hayley: What, you mean about the way I sound?

[Bud and Hayley laugh]

Bud: What do you say we sit the next one out, huh? Hayley: Oh, but this is so much fun.
Bud: Yeah, but everybody's looking at us.
Hayley: That's what makes it so much fun.
Bud: But what I have in mind -- much better. Arlene, you haven't had a single drink all night. Bartender, two vodka rocks.
Hayley: How did you know that was my poison?
Bud: Classy girl like you, it's got to be ice cold vodka.

[Music plays]

Hayley: I wish they could see me now.
Bud: Who? Hayley: My family. They think I'm a lush who can't say no to a drink. But see? Don't need it.
Bud: You sure about that?
Hayley: Yeah, I can -- I can take it or leave it. I had a life-altering experience, and I started over in Amsterdam.
Bud: Amsterdam, huh?
Hayley: Mm-hmm. Bud: I hear that's a pretty wild place. Some kind of red-light district. I mean, not that I would know.
Hayley: I wouldn't know. I only stayed in the fanciest hotels. I had a real good divorce settlement.
Bud: Really? Ahem -- that's good to know.
Hayley: Hmm. Yeah. Don't -- don't say anything, but you're looking at the ex Mrs. Adam Chandler.
Bud: Adam Chandler?
Hayley: Mm-hmm.
Bud: The Adam Chandler?
Hayley: Mm-hmm. I wish you could've seen him crawling on his hands and knees, following me to Amsterdam, begging me to sign the divorce papers. I had him right where I wanted him. I could've made him sweat, but instead I decided I'd take my time. I am in no hurry to dole out my revenge.
Bud: Revenge?
Hayley: Yeah. You got a problem with that? Bud: I -- I don't know, Arlene, you know.
Hayley: Hey, Bud, you ever see "Wave"?
Bud: What?
Hayley: "Wave." You know, "wave," the show?
Bud: Never heard of it.
Hayley: No. Of course you haven't.

[Hayley laughs] Hayley: She thinks she's such a star, and she's nothing.
Bud: Who are we talking about now?
Hayley: Hayley Vaughan Santos, the star of "Wave." She's my daughter. She hates me because she caught me in bed with her husband.
Bud: Wait a minute. You're old enough to have
a daughter who has a husband? Hayley: I know. I don't look it, do I? Actually, we -- we look more like sisters. We are a lot alike, though. Poor Hayley's about to find out how alike we really are.
Bud: Whatever you say, Arlene.
Hayley: But, hey, I mean, come on. Why are we talking about that old stick-in-the-mud? To hell with Hayley. I want to have some fun.
Bud: Arlene, you are off your rocker, but you sure are hot.
Hayley: Let's dance.

[Bud laughs]

Adam: Lieutenant, I'm not trying to protect Arlene. As far as I know, she's still in Amsterdam. As a matter of fact, you insisted on contacting the police there, if you recall.
Derek: Oh, I recall. They never saw her, nor her passport.
Adam: Oh.
Derek: How about you, Mateo?
Mateo: Huh?
Derek: You think she's in Amsterdam?
Mateo: No. No, I -- she's here. At least I think she's here.
Derek: What makes you think that?
Mateo: Well, we -- we had another break-in before this one, and -- Hayley and I just think that she's responsible for it.
Derek: Any particular reason?

[Mateo sighs]

Mateo: Well, first of all, nothing was taken. And -- you know, we never go very long without Hayley's mom causing trouble for us and -- it's a family thing. That's -- that's why we didn't call you. We didn't want to trouble the police. We want to keep it in-house.
Derek: Yeah, well, tonight was different, Mateo.
Mateo: I know.
Derek: Somebody got hurt.
Mateo: I know.
Derek: She got hit in the head, knocked out.
Mateo: But before, nothing happened. It was just, you know, stuff that was ruined. And I understand that Tina was hurt, and I apologize for that, and I totally understand why she contacted you.
Derek: Yeah, well, ms. Harding has every intention of pressing charges.
Adam: What, you mean against Arlene? What proof do you have? What -- what evidence?
Derek: That is what I'm looking for, Adam!
Mateo: Well, you know, the thing is, Derek, is that we -- we don't have proof that it was Arlene. That's --

[Derek laughs]

Mateo: Yeah.
Derek: Look, where -- where's Hayley? I -- I'd like to ask her some questions.
Adam: Hayley -- I've already told you, she's getting some much-needed rest. She hasn't been sleeping well lately.
Derek: Oh, why, because her mother's been vandalizing her home?
Adam: You police want to complicate everything. This is a simple breaking and entering. That's all there is to it. Nothing more.
Derek: Oh, so I am wrong in trying to look for Arlene?
Mateo: No, Derek. I mean, we want you to find Arlene. And it'd probably help if you talked to her because if she's breaking into people's houses, then obviously she's mentally unstable.
Adam: Obviously, if she's breaking into people's houses, it means she's not in her right mind. And we, as her only family, can take care of her.
Derek: Oh. Oh, so now you're worried out Arlene's mental health, huh? Well, you know what? I'm not buying this.
Mateo: What?
Adam: You're not buying what?
Derek: What is going on with you people and Arlene? She's got something on you, doesn't she?

Dixie: I'm not going to stay with you, ok? I shouldn't even be here talking to you.
David: Dixie, you're shivering. You're upset. Do you really think you're in a place to make major decisions about what you want?
Dixie: I have to fix things, David, ok? Tad doesn't understand. There's just been a very major misunderstanding.
David: What? What is?
Dixie: At he saw. What he thinks.
David: Dixie, come on. You have to face facts. Tad understands perfectly. He found us together in my room. He knows what happened. We made love.

[Dixie sighs]

David: There was no hiding that.
Dixie: But I hurt him so terribly.
David: You have no reason to feel guilty. Tad is the one who strayed. He's the one who broke your marriage vows.
Dixie: That's not true. I did, too. You know what he said? He said that I was looking for an excuse to sleep with you. And I think he's right. I wanted to sleep with you.
David: I know you did. And that's not all there is between us, Dixie.
Dixie: Oh.
David: We're not through yet, and you know it.
Dixie: Oh, yes, we are. We are -- we are through. Sorry.
David: You are not going to get what you're looking for from Tad. He's going to judge you. He's going to make you pay.
Dixie: That is not true.
David: Yes, it is true. He is going to hurt you all over again. I'm just trying to spare you that.
Dixie: Well, I'm very sorry, ok? But in spite of everything, Tad and I belong together, and he knows that.
David: Tad will never treat you the way that I would or love you the way that I do. Please, Dixie, wait. Just give me a chance to prove it to you.
Dixie: I'm sorry. I -- I can't. I can't. I -- I don't -- I can't think when I'm with you. I don't -- I don't even know who I am.

Tad: There's nothing wrong, AJ.
Junior: Then how come you' so anxious for me to go with Jamie over to Brooke's?
Tad: What's the problem? You go over there all the time.
Junior: I haven't seen my mom since yesterday. I've been trying to get a hold of her. Where was she?
Tad: We're going to work everything out, ok?
Junior: Oh, so then it's true. Something is wrong. Something's going on. It has to do with Dr. Hayward and Mom. How could she do this to us?
Tad: Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute. You wait just a minute, ok? Your mom did not do anything to us. You got to know how much she loves you. She would never do anything to hurt you on purpose.
Junior: You don't even know if she's coming back, do you?
Tad: Of course she's coming back.
Junior: And then what?
Tad: I don't know.
Tad: You know something? I know you're a little too big for this, but I could use a hug, so you just consider this for my sake, ok?
Junior: What's going to happen to us, Tad?
Tad: Well, one thing's for sure -- your mom and I are going to have to do a lot of talking in private. That's kind of why I wanted you to go over to Brooke's in the first place.
Junior: You going to leave us?
Tad: You know, you're almost a grown man. You're certainly too big for me to start telling you stuff that's not true. So, come on, have a seat. The truth is your mom and I are having some real problems. And it's not her fault. It's as much my fault as it hers maybe more. This has to do with both of us.
Junior: I know whose fault it is. It's that creep Hayward.
Tad: I'm trying to tell you that we both have to deal with our responsibility in this situation, and it's complex and it's going to take a lot of time and a lot of patience to straighten things out.
Junior: So you are moving out?
Tad: I'm sorry. I can't promise you that I'm staying.
Junior: What's going to happen to us, Tad? Are -- are Jamie and I still going to be brothers? What's happening to this family?
Tad: You know one of the secrets of life? You can't sweat stuff like this until it happens. You sure are getting big. You know I held you in my arms when you were a week old? You were so cute, you used to make me giggle because there's nothing else I could do. I love you as if you were my own flesh and blood. As far as I'm concerned, you are. And that goes for your brother, too, just like your mom. We are all going to love you forever.
Dixie: Tad's right.

Gillian: You didn't have to carry me all the way home!
Ryan: For your first day on the job, anything. Absolutely anything.
Gillian: Hmm.
Ryan: You just tell me right now what it is, what you want, and I will give it to you.
Gillian: Ok. But you're in for a surprise.

Adam: Lieutenant, I'm trying to cooperate with you, but I -- I just don't know what you want us to say.
Derek: How about the truth, Adam? That would help. How come I can't get a straight answer from you about Arlene?
Adam: We've told you what we know.
Mateo: Derek, Derek, if you find her, we'd love to talk to her.
Derek: And press charges?
Adam: Well, we're not going to -- we're not going to make any unwarranted charges. After all, she is -- she is Hayley's mother. And Hayley's very concerned about her.
Derek: Yeah, well, you won't let me see Hayley.
Adam: It's not that we won't let you see her.
Mateo: It's bad timing, really. She's sleeping.
Adam: Yes, sleeping.
Derek: Oh, she -- all right, then. I'll come back. Maybe then will be a better time. You know where you can find me.
Adam: Of course.
Derek: Yeah, but in the meantime, there's still -- there's still a warrant out for Arlene.
Mateo: What for?
Derek: For the stolen pearl necklace. You know, if she is in Pine Valley, we will find her. And maybe then we'll find out what you people are trying to hide. I'll show myself out. Good night.
Adam: Thank you, Lieutenant.
Mateo: Bye, Derek.

[Door closes]

Adam: What the devil are you thinking about? Why even admit the possibility that Arlene's in town?
Mateo: She is in town. And if he finds her, then Hayley will be safe.
Adam: Until Arlene starts talking, and then we're all going to jail, Mateo.
Mateo: She's nuts. Arlene is crazy. And we'll all be better off if she's in custody.
Adam: No, she's not nuts! She wants money and she wants attention -- the same as always. So we have to find her and give her some money and get her out of town before the police find out that she strangled her mother.
Mateo: Well, your time to accomplish this little deed is running out, Adam.
Adam: No. We'll see about that.

[Music plays]

Bud: You know, it's awfully hot in here. And this is so nice and cool and --
Hayley: Hmm.
Bud: Wet.
Hayley: You know, I know what it is that you want, Bud, and you don't have to get me drunk to get it.
Bud: I don't?
Hayley: No. So put that glass down. This is the only vodka you're going to taste until afterwards.
Bud: Afterwards? Well, Baby, what are we hanging around this dump for?
Hayley: There's nothing like a gorgeous man in a bar to get Arlene's juices flowing.

[Music plays]

[Bells ring]

Bud: Hey, what is it? What is it?
Hayley: My -- my daughter.
Bud: What, your daughter the TV star?
Hayley: I -- I have to go right now, Sweetie. There's -- there's some unfinished business between us.
Bud: Yeah, but -- hey, hey, hey. You know, it's late. It's cold outside, and, you know, we're having a really nice time here, really nice.
Hayley: All I ever wanted was for her to love me, and I follow her around like a stinking puppy dog. Well, that's not going to happen anymore. This time I'm going to settle things with her for good.
Hayley: But that doesn't --

[Bells ring]

Hayley: That doesn't mean that I don't think you're the hottest thing on two legs.
Bud: So I'll get to see you again?
Hayley: Yeah, Baby. Just keep your mouth shut about seeing me, and I'll pay you back any way you want.

[Bells ring]

Bud: Mum's the word.
Hayley: You know it, Sweetie.

Gillian: 59, 60, 61, 62, 63. 10, 20, 1, 2, 3 -- $63.24. Isn't that great?
Ryan: That is fantastic. Just don't get too used to it.
Gillian: Why? I don't mind my feet hurting a little bit. Besides, I like bringing home bacon.
Ryan: The bacon. Yeah. But I know what you meant. Well, you're going to be able to quit your job pretty soon.
Gillian: Why?
Ryan: Because I've been working on an investment opportunity that's going to have us rolling in bacon.
Gillian: You're a fantastic businessman, Ryan. And you are going to be very, very rich.
Ryan: Oh --
Gillian: One day soon. It's just it doesn't matter to me when.
Ryan: Well, it matters to me. We got a wedding to pay for.
Gillian: Would you stop worrying about that? I don't want a fancy wedding.
Ryan: Well, maybe you don't, but I do. I want to have a big cathedral. I want to have exotic flowers flown in from the Amazon and a guest list in the thousands, and I want an orchestra playing the wedding march.
Gillian: You know what?
Ryan: What?
Gillian: I want something even more impressive.
Ryan: Really? Like what?

Junior: You know, Jamie and I live here, too. And we have a right to know what's going on.
Dixie: Course you do. It's just that Tad and I have not really gotten a chance to discuss everything yet, so -- we're going to do that, I promise you, and we're going to work through all of our problems.
Junior: Let me just get something straight. I'm not going back to Pigeon Hollow.
Dixie: Of course not. We're not moving anywhere.
Junior: I have my music group. I have a hockey team that's this close to getting into the finals. And I could kiss off getting into some good university because I have to go to some hillbilly high school.
Dixie: We're not moving anywhere, ok? We're going to stay right here in this house, I promise you. You just have to wait. Everything is going to be fine. Just realize that. Everything is going to be ok. All right? We love you.
Junior: I know you love me, Mom. I'm not worried about you guys not loving me. But do you love each other?
Tad: Yes.
Dixie: Yes, Junior, we love each other very much.
Junior: I'm going to go over to Jamie's.
Tad: I'll drive you.
Junior: I need my bike for hockey practice tomorrow.
Dixie: It's dark out.
Junior: It's a mile away, Mom.
Dixie: It's very cold -- just bundle up, ok? Call me when you get there?
Junior: I will.

Tad: I told him he was almost a grown man.
Dixie: Well, just now he was acting like a little boy. How could we do this, Tad? How can we do this to the kids?
Tad: A little late to start asking ourselves that question.
Dixie: I'm glad you're still here.
Tad: I just stuck around for Junior's sake. You know, I wanted to make sure that -- that you would come home.
Dixie: Well, of course I'm going to come home. What'd you think I was going to do?
Tad: I have no idea, Dixie.
Dixie: What are you doing? Are you leaving?
Tad: You told me to, remember?
Dixie: I was wrong. I don't want you to go.
Tad: What are we going to do? We going to walk around, pretend like none of this ever happened just because the boys found out about it?
Dixie: You could stay in the guest bedroom. You don't have to leave the house. Think about the kids, you know. Think about how confused they would be.
Tad: Dixie, they're already confused. They're very bright boys. What are they going to think when all of a sudden we're sleeping in different rooms and we're tiptoeing around, not talking to one another?
Dixie: I don't know. We could talk. We could talk. We could just talk. We'll work things out. We love each other.
Tad: I know. I know. I know we do. Ok? But I think it's high time we examine what that's about because you don't trust me. I told you the truth -- what happened, why it happened, how much I regret it -- and you didn't believe me.
Dixie: You didn't believe me, either. You thought the worst of me when all I had done was kiss David.
Tad: But I was right.
Dixie: No, you weren't right. I didn't do anything wrong. And maybe I wouldn't have if you had just been on my side! You think I'm blaming you? I'm not blaming you. I'm not blaming you. I take responsibility for what I did. But I'm not the only one to blame here. You have to take responsibility for what you did, too.
Tad: I have. I was drugged. I never would've gone near Leslie if it hadn't been for that. You still don't believe me.
Dixie: We've just kind of been down this road before, you know?
Tad: Yeah, I know, and that's the problem, isn't it? Because somewhere deep inside you, you resent me. You can't forgive me for what I've been. This whole Leslie thing just brought it all back.
Dixie: I want to forgive you. I do. I really do want to forgive you. I just -- you -- you've got to understand that I can't erase the past out of my head.
Tad: So what's going to happen? Every time you perceive I'm guilty of an indiscretion, some infidelity, you're going to go out and have one of your own?
Dixie: No. No. That is not why I slept with David.
Tad: No, it isn't. Why did you?
Dixie: It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter now. I don't want to see him. I don't want to think about him. I don't want to be with him!
Tad: Now I'm the one who doesn't believe you. What's really frightening is I don't think you believe you, either.

Gillian: I'm thinking of a beautiful, expansive estate with a well-manicured lawn and a world-famous rose garden cultivated by a sweet, sweet lady.
Ryan: Not the Queen Mum?
Gillian: No. And in the one corner of this estate is a dark, romantic place. It's a tower, the remains of an old castle, where it's known for lovers to meet each other and share secret, passionate moments.
Ryan: Wow. Must be lots of places like that in Hungary.
Gillian: And this beautiful place is nestled in a valley with a lake on the one side and sloping hills on the other side.
Ryan: This place you're talking about, is that in Italy?
Gillian: And the sloping hills are covered with pine trees.
Ryan: Pine trees? In the valley?
Gillian: Yeah. Maybe that's where it's got its name from.
Ryan: Pine Valley. The place you're talking about is Wildwind, and the rose garden is Eugenia's.
Gillian: And the tower is our turret where we used to meet each other when body could
know that we were lovers. Ryan: Is that all you really want?
Gillian: "All"? Ryan, you are the strongest, kindest, most passionate man. You're the man who's going to be the father of my children, and you're the man who's going to sit with me like this and be with me 50 years from now.

[Music plays]

Duffy: So you have seen her?
Man: No.
Duffy: But you said before that you did.
Man: The hair threw me. But no.
Duffy: Are you sure?
Man: Never seen her. Looker, though.
Duffy: Thanks. Let me know if you do see her.
Man: Ok.

Adam: Well?
Duffy: Nobody's seen your ex-wife.
Adam: She's in town. I know she is.
Duffy: If she is, I will find her, Mr. Chandler.
Adam: Good. When you do, there's been a change of plans.

Hayley: Hayley, where are you? Get down here! We're going to settle this once and for all.

Gillian: Oh --
[Gillian moans]

Ryan: Hey -- Princess, you all right?
Gillian: Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. I -- I guess I'm just exhausted from working all day. Either that or your love positively makes me dizzy.
Ryan: Hmm. Probably both.
Gillian: Probably.
Ryan: Come here. Come here.

Tad: I'll call you just as soon as I land someplace, ok?

Junior: Dr. Hayward.
David: Junior? If you're looking for your mother, she --
Junior: You stay away from my mother! I'm warning you. Stay away from her.

Duffy: There's no need to change your plans, Mr. Chandler. You hired me to find your wife and bring her to you. I will do that.
Adam: I need you to find her before the police do. Here's the change of plans -- I don't want ever to see Arlene's face again.
Duffy: You want her out of town?
Adam: No, I'm saying I don't want anyone to ever see Arlene's face again.
Duffy: Mr. Chandler, I'm a legitimate private investigator.
Adam: I know. I thought you'd never find Arlene alive. But if you prove me right, I'll add $100,000 to your fee. Do we understand each other?
Duffy: Completely, Mr. Chandler.
Adam: That's good. Go on.

Mateo: Hey.
Hayley: Hmm --
Mateo: Sweetie? Hey -- come on, you don't want to sleep here. Let's go upstairs.
Hayley: How long have I been out?
Mateo: Couldn't have been for long. Your dad and I were just here talking.
Hayley: It's the strangest thing.
Mateo: What?
Hayley: I -- I think Arlene was here. I could swear I heard her calling my name.

ON THE NEXT - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Laura: Leo, you're the best.

Hayley: Your mama's going to teach you a lesson you'll never forget.

Tad: I've been waiting for you.
