ALL MY CHILDREN

JULY 12, 2001

Ryan: I don't want your lectures --
Liza: Ryan!
Ryan: I don't want your opinions or your face anywhere near me, so get out!
Liza: Are you crazy? Are you ok?
Adam: I'm fine. He could use some help.
Ryan: Why are you still here? I told you to get out!
Adam: This is my yacht! He's -- he's lost it! He's letting this company go -- he's letting this company go down the tubes because he's sick with grief, and I'm supposed to stand by and let at happen? I have a business to run here!
Ryan: Kill your business, Adam, sell the yacht, sell the company. I don't care. I don't care about anything.
Liza: Ryan, take it easy.
Adam: You think you're in hell? Well, get this straight, young man -- you ain't even seen purgatory yet!

Rosa: Did I come through for my big brother or what?
Mateo: Oh. You did a great job, Rosa. Thank you.
Rosa: Thank you. All the girls are from my old school -- you know, prison?
Mateo: Yeah.
Rosa: I told them that all they had to do was come down here and help you clean and set up for the BBMak show and they could stay and watch for free. They freaked! Totally flipped.
Mateo: Well, thank you for your friends.
Rosa: Oh, no problem.

Marcus: Ladies, I am at your beck and call. What next? What next?

Rosa: Thank you. I'd feel like such an idiot if I would have dropped that right now -- Gabriel! What are you doing here?

Dixie: Tad? Maybe he went to see Jamie. So do you want to talk about it?
J.R.: I'm not really supposed to. The counselor said I didn't have to tell anybody about what we talk about.
Dixie: No, he's right. He's right. You don't. I just want you to know that I'm here for you, you know, if you need to talk about it.
J.R.: Are there any doughnuts left?
Dixie: Yeah. I think there are.
J.R.: Good.

[Knock on door]

Dixie: Oh, Jake.
Jake: Hey, there.
Dixie: Hey.
Jake: Well, that lazy husband of yours is supposed to go for a run with me.
Dixie: Oh. Well, that's why he's MIA. Come in.
Jake: Oh, ok. Thank you. Hey. Everything ok?
Dixie: Oh, sure, yeah.
Jake: Yeah?
Dixie: I just expected Tad to be here when J.R. and I got back.
Jake: Oh. Well, yeah, actually, I was a little surprised that he wanted me to pick him up here. I wondered if that meant that the two of you were talking more or --
Dixie, what is it?
Dixie: I'm sorry. It's nothing. I just -- I'm a little worried what Tad is doing right now.
Jake: What do you mean?
Dixie: I mean -- I think he went after the guy who sold J.R. some drugs.
Jake: What?
Dixie: I'm a little worried about what he might do.

[Sweeney talking on the phone]

Sweeney: Yeah. No, ok. I hear you, all right? Look, you know, I totally hear you, all right? Jeez, just lay off, all right?

[Noise]

Sweeney: Who the hell's that?
Tad: Mr. Sweeney. I hear you can sell me some Ecstasy.
Sweeney: Who are you?
Tad: Just a customer.
Sweeney: How do you know my name?
Tad: You ever hear of me?
Tad: You sold drugs to my boy. A nice little Ecstasy necklace. You remember, huh?
Sweeney: What do you want from me?
Tad: You really want to know?
Sweeney: Yeah. What do you want?
Tad: I want satisfaction, Mr. Sweeney. And you're going to give it to me.

Dixie: You know, I've seen him mad. I've seen him revengeful. But I've never really seen the look in his eye like I did when he thought he knew the kid that sold J.R. the drugs.
Jake: Well, did he go after him?
Dixie: I --
Jake: I -- I guess he didn't say. Well, the first thing, Dixie, you can't just jump to conclusions here. Maybe he's out asking some questions and calling in some old PI favors or something.
Dixie: He was pretty wild, Jake.
Jake: Ok, well, I can only imagine. I know how much he loves J.R.
Dixie: I'm just worried about what he might do.
Jake: Wait a sec. He's not going to do anything stupid. We know that.
Dixie: You didn't see him, Jake.
Jake: Well, you think he's going to confront this guy, this dealer?
Dixie: What if he does? What if he has already? What if it's too late to stop him from making a horrible mistake?

Tad: You sold J.R. the Ecstasy?
Sweeney: What, Chandler told you that? Oh!
Tad: Did you sell him the drugs?
Sweeney: Yeah.
Tad: Good. That's real good. Now you're going to give me what I want.
Sweeney: What do you want, drugs?
Tad: You're a jerk!
Sweeney: Ugh!
Tad: I want some names.
Sweeney: Oh, man. No.
Tad: I want the name of your supplier, Sweeney, and I want the name of his supplier and I want the name of the guy all the way at the top that thought it would be a really, really good idea to do business with children.
Sweeney: Look, man --
Tad: That's what I want.
Sweeney: No!
Tad: That's what you are going to give me.
Sweeney: It's a really bad time right now. Look, if I give you the names, they could -- they might --
Tad: What, kill you? Kill you, Mr. Sweeney? Do you really, really for a minute think I care?
Sweeney: You don't mess with these guys. Look, you don't understand. You don't just give names, all right?
Tad: You do. You do, Mr. Sweeney. And you're going to give them to me.

[Crash]

Ryan: Adam, I buried my wife last week. What could you possibly say to me that would have any impact on me at all? Just go, both of you. Please, just get out.
Adam: Ryan, I'm not your enemy. I had faith in you. I know you know that. I gave you bundles of money and trust and sent you out to succeed. I'm not going to let you throw that all away and your life along with it because of a personal loss. You got to be a man! Move on.
Liza: Adam, you can't -- you can't tell Ryan just to move on. I mean, are you forgetting what you did, how you treated your family after you thought your brother had died last summer?
Adam: Liza, Liza, I'm asking you very nicely to stay out of this.
Liza: Well, don't patronize --
Ryan: Just forget it! Forget it. I'm out of here.
Adam: Fine. Fine. Pack your bags and get off of my yacht!
Liza: No, no.
Adam: Maybe if I'd just --
Liza: No! I am going to lock you both in this room until you both shut your mouths and you listen to me. Am I clear?

Marcus: What, now you're trying to take advantage of her in public? Getting brave, huh? Mr. Santos, why isn't this guy in jail?
Mateo: Why don't you go help your tables?
Marcus: What?
Mateo: Get out of my face. What part of that didn't you understand?

[Marcus sighs]

Marcus: Look, this guy hurt Rosa and you weren't there.
Rosa: No, he didn't hurt me. I just -- I didn't know that it was him behind me and -- Gabriel, what are you doing here?
Gabriel: I work here.
Rosa: What?
Marcus: You hired this guy?
Mateo: Yeah. Got a problem with that?
Marcus: He punched out a cop.
Mateo: Charges were dropped. He pretty much saved this place from going up in flames last night.
Rosa: Wow, I am totally confused.
Mateo: Don't be. See, tonight we're going to have a great time. We're all going to have such a good time. BBMak's here. It's exciting, right? We're not going to be looking at each other like we are right now -- no fighting, no trash-talking. No trouble. You got me? Good! I say we go in the back and you help me load up some boxes. Come on. Marcus.

Gabriel: I'm sorry.
Rosa: For what?
Gabriel: I didn't mean to scare you. I just wanted to help. That's all. That's it.
Rosa: Ok. Hey, listen, thanks for helping my brother last night, you know, with the fire. This place really means a lot to him.

Liza: This just needs to calm down. I know you need time. I know you need Ryan's help. But you have to wait.
Adam: Liza, Liza, this company that Ryan is neglecting, that exists because of my financial outlay, doesn't have time. It's falling apart.
Liza: One week.
Adam: One week what?
Liza: I am telling you to give Ryan a week. If he doesn't want to run incredibledreams.com after a week, replace him. And if you don't want to do it, then you live by your decision, but don't give it away. Give yourself some time.
Adam: Excuse me. I said I don't have time.
Liza: Yes, you have time, because you know what? This isn't about your company. Give Ryan a week to get himself settled. This is all about your personal stress and your conflict about J.R.
Adam: No, you leave my son out of this. I can separate work and family.
Liza: You cannot. Neither can anyone who is going through a personal crisis. Do you hear me yet?
Adam: One week. That's it.

Ryan: Well, Madeleine Albright, aren't you going to go after your husband?
Liza: I'm so sorry. I am so sorry for your loss.

Jake: Don't assume the worst. All right? I'm sure that Tad was on fire before he found out about this dealer and --
J.R.: Hey, Jake.
Jake: Hey, J.R. How you doing, huh?
J.R.: Good, I guess. So I guess you heard the good news, right? I'm in therapy.
Jake: Yeah. Yeah, I think it's great that you're talking to people that are willing to listen, right? Your mom and Tad, everyone else, and me included -- we're all here for you. Hope you know that.
J.R.: Yeah. Thanks. I just want to say I'm sorry about Gillian. I know you cared about her a lot.
Jake: Yeah, I did. Thank you.
Dixie: How were those doughnuts?
J.R.: They were pretty stale, actually.
Jake: Well, I guess Tad chickened out on me again. I'm going to -- I think I left him in the dust the last time we ran. Listen, I'm going to take off before it gets too late.
Dixie: Ok. I'll walk you out.
Jake: Ok. J.R.? You can do this. Just don't shut out the people who love you, ok?

[JR dials his cell phone]

J.R.: Damn it, Sweeney! Where the hell are you? Look, this is J.R. I really need to talk to you. My parents found out about the X necklace. I didn't tell them where I got it, but we still need to talk. I'll meet you in an hour at the boathouse.

[Sweeney groans]

Sweeney: Please! You're choking me! I -- I won't --
Tad: Won't sell drugs to my kids. You betcha. Well, you bet you won't. You've got one chance to make up for what you've done. Who's your supplier?
Sweeney: No, look, I can't -- I can't tell you anything! I -- I can't!
Tad: You can. And you will, Sweeney, or so help me God, I will kill you.

Ryan: Liza, I -- I appreciate your concern, I really do, but I don't need it.
Liza: I just know that you must be in horrible pain. I can't even imagine how you must feel.
Ryan: It feels like nothing -- nothing matters anymore, so this arbitrary week that you're giving me to make up my mind about the company? That doesn't matter, either. You see, I don't have the only thing that matters, so nothing else does.
Liza: I just don't want to see you throw your life away while you're in mourning. Just --
Ryan: Just what? Just give it time? There isn't enough time in the world, Liza.

Marian: Boy, that girl can sure talk, can't she? I should know. She's my daughter.
Ryan: Marian, what are you doing here?
Marian: Ryan, I need your help. I have a job for you to do.
Ryan: What? What? I don't want to work for anyone!
Marian: No, no, no, no. This is different, and, please, Ryan, you have to help me.
Ryan: What is with you people? All of this "you have to" and "you should"? Don't you have anything better to do with your time?
Marian: This is very important, Ryan.
Ryan: Not to me, whatever it is.
Marian: But it's everything to me. And one more thing -- Liza can never know about this -- ever.

J.R.: So did uncle Jake make it to his car ok?
Dixie: I had some things I needed to talk to him about.
J.R.: About me?
Dixie: Actually, no. You don't believe me.
J.R.: I'm just tired of everyone having to pry into my personal business.
Dixie: Well, everyone really isn't interested.
J.R.: Well, I'm listening to whatever you guys are telling me to do, right? I mean, that counts.
Dixie: Of course it counts.
J.R.: I mean, everyone at the community center likes me.
Dixie: Honey, of course they do. You know, your supervisor called and he told me how much he liked you.
J.R.: He called just now while you were outside with Jake. In fact, he's a little low on volunteers and he's having an open house for any visitors that want to stop by.
Dixie: He called and he asked you to come over?
J.R.: Well, yeah. I mean, can I?
Dixie: Well, sure. Sure. I think it's great that you want to help out.
J.R.: All right, great. Don't worry. I won't be long.
Dixie: Hey, J.R. I know the last six months have been really hard. I do. I hope you know I love you.
J.R.: I love you, too, Mom.

Rosa: Hey, we are supposed to be helping my brother.
Marcus: Well, I can't keep my hands off you when we're this close.
Rosa: Well, you better because Mateo is going to hang you from the ceiling by those hands.
Marcus: Ok.
Rosa: Not good.
Marcus: I'll be good. I want your brother to like me.
Marcus: Can we be alone later?
Rosa: Alone how?
Marcus: Rosa, do I have to draw you a picture?

Shannon: Marcus. You've been ignoring me. I hate that. Where are you taking me tonight after BBMak plays?
Marcus: I didn't know I was taking you anywhere. Did you, Rosa?
Shannon: Rosa, would you mind leaving me alone with my Marcus? Thanks.
Marcus: Oh! Whoa. So now I am your Marcus?
Shannon: She's still here, Marcus.
Marcus yeah, well --
Shannon: Make her go away.
Marcus: Rosa's with me, and I have plans with her after the show tonight. Don't I?
Rosa: Yes, you do. I have to go see my brother.

Shannon: You are so not into her, please.
Marcus: What if I am?
Shannon: Marcus, she's like some convent school girl. What, you get off on that or something? Are you for real?
Marcus: We are over, you know that, so get a life. What?
Shannon: You gave me a ring.
Marcus: You think that means something?
Look, Shannon, I bought that at a street vendor in front of the mall. What'd you think it was, real? What's your problem? I'm not with you. We totally don't connect.
Shannon: You owe me. You know you owe me, Marcus.
Marcus: What do you think I owe you for, Shannon, huh?
Shannon: For what you did.
Marcus: What?
Shannon: I never told anyone what you did to me, Marcus. But what if I did?
Marcus: Hmm.
Marcus: Are you crazy, Shannon? You think saying all this junk to me is going to make me want to be with you again or something?
Shannon: You can't do the things that you did to me and say the things that you said to me.
Marcus: Are you going to drop this or do I have to shut your mouth for you?
Shannon: It isn't right -- what you said, what you did to me.
Marcus: Well, here's the thing -- I didn't do anything to you that you didn't ask for or deserve, and you know it. Somewhere inside of you, underneath all that glam and all that stuff that you show everybody else, you know you're not worth anything.

Marian: Ryan, I'm willing to pay you for what I'm asking you to do.
Ryan: Marian, I'm not in the incredibledreams business anymore. It's a joke. It always was. I just didn't know it until now.
Marian: Ryan? I felt the same way you do right now when I thought I lost Stuart. I truly did, but, you know, keeping busy helped me deal with my grief better. And you're so good at doing what I want you to do that -- I --
Ryan: Listen, Marian, I can't help you, ok? I can't make dreams come true. I can make some phone calls and I can order some nice flowers and some expensive champagne, but I'm no dream maker. I don't have any, and I can't make them. Ok?
Marian: Ok.
Ryan: Ok, great. Thank you. So at the risk of being rude, I'd really like to be alone with my scotch right now.
Marian: Look, I am not asking you to create a dream. I'm asking you to remove a nightmare.
Ryan: You're not letting this go, are you?
Marian: Look, Ryan, if you do this for me, I'll be forever in your debt and it'll be a good thing for you to do karmically as well.
Ryan: "Karma," great.
Marian: But there are two conditions.
Ryan: Fine. Whatever.
Marian: No one can ever know about this -- ever.
Ryan: Fine.
Marian: Especially Liza -- most importantly Liza. Is that clear?
Ryan: Yes! I said yes already.
Marian: And when you've done this, Liza will be in your debt forever as well, only she just won't know it. And when you're finished with that, burn it. All right? I'll be in touch soon.
Ryan: Ahem.

Tad: Thanks for coming.
Man: Yeah, why did you call me and make me come here? I haven't heard from you in years.
Tad: Well, thankfully, I haven't needed your kind of help in years. You understand my message?
Man: Yeah, and don't leave that kind of thing on my voicemail, man.
Tad: Relax. Ok? I always took care of you. Back in the day, nobody made more money for ratting out their friends than you did.
Man: I know, but now you're asking me to finger the top guys. I can't do that. I would have to move to Thailand or something.
Tad: That's not my problem.
Man: I can't give you the names, Tad.
Tad: Yes, you can and you will or I'll make your life a misery. You won't be able to pass off a dime bag to some aging hippie at the food co-op without getting busted. And considering everything I know about you, if I were you, I'd want to keep me happy. Now, there's a lot of Ecstasy coming into Pine Valley. I want to know who's doing it and how he's doing it.

Derek: It's a funny smell over here, Tad. Smells like a well-known speed freak and a drug courier that my entire department is all too familiar with. Is there any particular reason you were hanging out with a lowlife like that?
Tad: I'm not hanging out with anybody. I'm just saying hi to somebody I knew as a PI. That was it.
Derek: Hmm. Well, besides that scuzzy lowlife, is there anybody else from the old days that you're reconnecting with?
Tad: What is the problem here? What, you think I'm still scratching around for information? Is that it?
Derek: I think you are out of your mind with worry about your stepson, and I'm wondering if you're poking your nose into places where you ought not to.
Tad: Now, why would I do that? You told me to stay out of it. I heard you.
Derek: And clearly, you disregarded me, Tad. These people are dangerous. This is not petty cash. This is real, it's significant, and they don't mess around with people who ask the wrong questions.
Tad: Well, I appreciate your concern. But I'm fine -- just fine. You are off base.
Derek: I don't think I am. And I think you've already done something you shouldn't. Am I right?

J.R.: Sweeney? Sweeney, you here yet?

[Phone rings]

J.R.: Hello?
Adam: J.R., it's Dad.
J.R.: Hi, Dad.
Adam: Where are you?
J.R.: I'm at the community center.
Adam: At this hour?
J.R.: Yeah. They needed some extra help, so I --
Adam: No, no, that's good. That's very good. I just want to check in with you. I understand you saw your counselor for the first time tonight. How'd it go?
J.R.: It was fine, really.
Adam: Anything important happen?
J.R.: No, nothing important. I didn't mention anything about David Hayward blackmailing you.
Adam: J.R., I don't care anything about that. I just want you to be happy. I worry about you. I want to make sure you're taken care of and looked after.
J.R.: Mom drove me to my appointment, and everything's fine.
Adam: Good. You know Liza and I are here for you.
J.R.: I know, ok? You don't have to tell me every five minutes.
Adam: J.R., I just -- I want you to know how much you mean to me, how much you matter to me -- more than I can ever tell you.
J.R.: Dad, I got to go. Things are busy here, all right? Bye.

Liza: How's J.R.?
Adam: Fine. You -- what are you having?
Liza: How was his appointment with the drug counselor?
Adam: Fine. Are you having the veal, or am I?
Liza: Why are you shutting me out?
Adam: I'm having dinner with you, Liza. Why is that shutting you out?
Liza: You know, Adam, you're going to deal with this. You're going to share your feelings with me, or you can just have dinner by yourself, you can check into the hotel because you're not coming home with me, not with this attitude stuck to your brain. You got it?

J.R.: Sweeney, I know you're here. You check your messages every two minutes. You had to have gotten mine. Look, I have no time for games. We're in a lot of trouble.

Adam: I don't enjoy being harangued by my wife over cocktails.
Liza: I am not haranguing you. I just want you to calm down.
Adam: I am perfectly calm.
Liza: You're a live wire.
Adam: Well, I get that way when the people I pay to make me money lose it.
Liza: Ryan is in mourning. How many times do I need to explain that to you till you understand?
Adam: No, you don't because that would make you seem domineering and me infantile. Is that what you're gunning for?
Liza: Why are you being so obstinate?
Adam: Why are you being so contrary?
Liza: Honestly, you know, sometimes you make me wonder.
Adam: Do I? What exactly do I make you wonder about, Liza?
Liza: Oh, where the man I love is hiding.
Adam: I'm right here.
Liza: Are you?
Adam: What do you want from me?
Liza: Your heart. Your compassion. You.
Adam: I have a lot on my mind right now.
Liza: I know. J.R.
Adam: J.R.'S in serious trouble.
Liza: I know he is. He's getting the help he needs.
Adam: Is it enough?
Liza: I hope so.
Adam: I've lost touch with him. I'm afraid he's lost touch with himself.
Liza: Adam --
Adam: And now my wife is grilling me, judging me for trying to take care of my business interests.
Liza: Well, I think you're being unfair.
Adam: Am I? Do you have any idea what I'm going through right now?
Liza: Some. Not enough.
Adam: That's my fault, too, I suppose.
Liza: You don't talk to me. I have to guess a lot.
Adam: Doesn't this tell you anything?
Liza: No, it doesn't. I'm trying to make you see that.
Adam: Well, all I can see right now is that my son's life is on the line and my business interests are on the brink and my wife doesn't understand any of it.

[Adam calls JR again]

Adam: Come on, J.R., answer, damn it.

[Phone rings]

J.R.: Stop calling me, Dad. Sweeney. Sweeney. What the hell is going on?

Liza: I just don't understand why you're fighting me on everything.
Adam: I was about to ask you the same question.
Liza: You know, I'm not fighting you. I want to help you with your son.
Adam: Do you have any idea how it makes me feel when you challenge me in front of another man.
Liza: I wasn't challenging you. I was hoping for a bit of your compassion for Ryan. His life has come down around him the last couple of weeks. He just married Gillian, and he's lost her forever. And you want a new business plan. You want him to start making money for you right away. The poor guy can't even dress himself.
Adam: Again, you've challenged me in front of another man.
Liza: If this is about your fragile ego being bruised, I can't even handle that.
Adam: No. My fragile ego isn't bruised, but I'll tell you what is -- my faith in you.
Liza: What?
Adam: I love you and only you, but I'm starting to wonder if you and I are on the same side of anything at all.

Ryan: There goes your nightmare, Marian. Your big secret from Liza. Everybody's stupid, shortsighted incredible dreams.
Ryan: It's all a crock, all of it.

Shannon: Hey, can I have a diet soda, please?
Bartender: Sure.

Gabriel: Can I talk to you? What did Marcus do to you?
Shannon: What? What do you mean?
Gabriel: I was working and heard him say some pretty awful things to you, and I heard you say that you never told anyone about it. I just want you to know that I know how it feels to be powerless against someone who thinks they have control over you. It's a terrible way to feel.
Shannon: You shouldn't have heard that.
Gabriel: But I did. What did Marcus do to you? Did he hurt you?
Shannon: I deserved it. You heard that, too, didn't you? Didn't you?

Tad: Listen, these people, whoever they are, if they're doing business with the likes of Sweeney, then they're cowards, and you know it.
Derek: Cowards with money, power, and guns, Tad.
Tad: Who are selling drugs to children. They're pushing junk on my boys. Now, do you think they ought to be allowed to get away with that?
Derek: Nobody's allowing it. We're doing everything we can every single day.
Tad: What if that's not enough?
Derek: Now, don't go getting Charles Bronson on me, Tad, because it doesn't help and it doesn't work and in the long run it doesn't make the situation any better.
Tad: I don't see how the situation could possibly get worse. Jake tells me that in the ER they get a dozen underage OD's a week. A week, Derek.
Derek: I know.
Tad: So what do you want me to do, huh? You want me to sit at home waiting for the phone to ring so somebody at the hospital can tell me that it's J.R. or Jamie? This insanity has to stop. It's got to stop now before some stupid kid --
Derek: What is it, Tad?
Tad: It's nothing. Just let it go.
Derek: Let what go? What are you hiding?

J.R.: Sweeney, what the hell are you doing? You had me totally freaked out. You know how many times I called your cell phone? How come you never picked up? And stop it with this silent treatment. What are you doing? Sweeney. Sweeney?

[JR gives Sweeney a push and realizes he's dead]

J.R.: Oh, my God.

ON THE NEXT - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Mateo: Put your hands together one time for BBMak.

[Applause]

Greenlee: We can have what we've always wanted -- each other.

David: Looks like somebody's having a bad day.

Derek: How did you get blood on your shirt, Tad?
