ALL MY CHILDREN

July 26, 2001

Gillian: Opal, you kissed him! No! You weren't supposed to do that!

Ryan: Why did you do that?
Opal: I don't know.
Ryan: Well, you had too much to drink.
Opal: No, it's like I was looking at you with different eyes.

Gillian: Yes -- mine!

Opal: If I hadn't kissed you when I did, I -- I think I would have died.
Liza: Opal, why don't you go home? You came here with Dixie, right?
Opal: Dixie?
Liza: Well, we haven't seen her in a while, but we could call you a taxi.
Ryan: That's a very good idea. Why don't you just wait here.

Gillian: No!

Opal: No, Ryan, don't go. There's something I have to tell you. Ryan, I love you.
Ryan: You love me?

Gillian: No. I love him!

Opal: Did I just say that? I don't know. Something is happening to me, something that is definitely wrong. I think I need some air.
Liza: Opal -- wait. Don't.
Opal: Oh, I'll be fine. Oh.

Gillian: I've got to get through to her.

Adam: You always had a peculiar sense of humor, Kaye.
Kaye: So do you, under the right circumstances.
Adam: Yes, well, you're -- you're having fu with me right now.
Kaye: Well, we could have a lot more fun.
Adam: Frankly, this behavior doesn't become you.
Kaye: Oh, I see. You'd respect me more if I accepted money to make sure that David Hayward's trial came out a certain way.
Adam: We're both sensible people. We were having a friendly chat. It's not too late to go back to that.
Kaye: Adam, can we speak plainly? You came here to bribe me so that I would look favorably on David Hayward. Why I can't possibly imagine, nor do I care. But, yes, we can come to an understanding. The thing is I don't want your money. I have money. What I want is you.
Adam: You're serious about this, aren't you?
Kaye: Well, I find you very attractive, Adam. As a matter of fact, I've never noticed how piercingly blue your eyes are.
Adam: My wife says that our daughter has got my eyes.
Kaye: No need to be so subtle. I know Liza's possessive. Why wouldn't she be? There are very few men in the world like you.
Adam: I'm delighted you noticed.
Kaye: Good. You know, I've always enjoyed our conversations at the country club, even the small talk. Haven't you?
Adam: Oh, yes, of course. You're a very perceptive woman, Kaye.
Kaye: And I've held my own talking about the economy and the election when all I could be imagining was "I wonder what it would be like to have Adam make love to me again."
Adam: Kaye.
Kaye: So you can imagine my surprise when I found out there was something I could do for you. Because there's definitely something you can do for me.

David: Is something wrong, Dixie?
Dixie: No, no. Nothing's wrong.
David: Is it Tad?
Dixie: Why do you ask?
David: Well, I heard on the news that he escaped from jail. There's a manhunt for him. You must be very frightened. So I'd like to help, Dixie, if I can.
Dixie: You can just leave me alone, ok? That's all I want from you.

Mateo: Man, don't forget the jacket.
Tad: Mateo -- I don't know what to say. You've really come through for me.
Mateo: You sure you know what you're doing?
Tad: Hell, no. I'm making this up as I go along.

[Knock on door] Dixie: Mateo, open up! It's me!
Tad: It's ok.
Dixie: Hey. The chicken fingers.
Tad: That's my girl.
Mateo: Listen, guys. I'm going to keep a lookout, but if you're going to go, you better go.
Tad: It's ok. It's all right. We won't be long, I promise.

Dixie: We don't have that much time, do we?
Tad: No, we don't. Before I leave, there's something I got to tell you.

Mateo: You lost?
David: No, I'm not lost, Mateo. I was looking for Dixie. She seemed upset about something.
Mateo: Probably from seeing you. Come on.

Tad: You realize there's a good chance we're not going to see each other for a while.
Dixie: What are you going to do first?
Tad: No, you don't. It's better f if you don't know.
Dixie: What?
Tad: No. Listen, it's got to be this way, Dixie, ok? Please don't argue with me. We're dealing with some very dangerous people. There's no way Sweeney could have written that note. It had to come from the people that killed his son.
Dixie: Well, those are the people that are probably running the drugs. What makes you think that you can get to them?
Tad: Because I got the best reason in the world. I'm just trying to keep you safe. I'm sorry. But that's where you can help me.
Dixie: How? How can I help you?
Tad: I want you to stay close to Derek, as close as you possibly can. And you make sure he's got an armed guard on that house 24 hours a day. And you're the one that's got to look after J.R.
Dixie: I will, ok? I will. I'll do everything I have to to keep us safe.
Tad: Ok. Because, you know, that's all that matters.
Dixie: It's not all that matters. You matter, too. You have to look out for yourself, ok? Promise me that you're going to look out for yourself. Promise me.

Mateo: What are you drinking?
David: Vodka on the rocks.
Mateo: Great. Vodka on the rocks for Dr. Hayward. And if he tries to leave from his chair, let me know.
David: Thank you so much for your hospitality.
Mateo: Oh, well, we like for everyone to have a good time at SOS and you will if you leave Dixie alone.

Ryan: That was very weird, even for Opal.
Liza: Well, I think that Opal was probably upset about Tad. She had a drink on an empty stomach.
Ryan: I'm sure that's it. It's just -- I don't know -- the weird thing is that I -- why did I feel something?
Liza: When she kissed you, you felt something?
Ryan: No. When she said she loved me. I don't know. It was like part of me -- for a split second, I just didn't -- I wanted to believe her. It didn't sound like Opal to me. It -- it sounded like somebody else. Why do I keep doing this to myself, Liza? Just when I think I'm in -- you know what? Don't worry about it. It's not even worth talking about, all right?
Liza: No, you can talk to me. You know that.
Ryan: Thank you. I appreciate that. But I'm making this about me. And you're right. It's not about me. It's probably just Opal going nuts worrying about Tad. That's all it is.
Liza: Yeah. I mean, I still can't believe it. Tad has been accused of murder. He's running from the police. I hate to even think what's going to happen next.

Adam: Kaye, you're a beautiful woman. And of course I'm touched that you have these feelings about me.
Kaye: You should be.
Adam: But as you know, I love my wife.
Kaye: Well, I've been married three times, and I loved all my husbands at one time or another. We're not talking about love, Adam.
Adam: Certainly not. Well, we've both been around the block a few times and, believe me, your -- your overture would be very welcome under different circumstances. But the fact is Liza and I have had kind of a rough patch of it lately. And as appealing as your proposition is, I can't jeopardize my marriage.
Kaye: Well, Liza doesn't really need to know about this, Adam. But I can take no for an answer. No harm done.
Adam: No, certainly not.
Kaye: Good night, then. Give my best to Liza.
Adam: Kaye, I came here for a reason. I want you to listen to what I have to say.
Kaye: I took no for an answer, Adam. I hope you can.
Adam: The fact is I can't. David Hayward's trial is very important to me. I realize I'm -- I'm taking a risk even continuing this conversation, but please, please indulge me.
Kaye: This matter must be very important to you.
Adam: It is crucial to my family's happiness. I'm sorry I can't tell you more. And I certainly appreciate the fact that you're not interested in money.
Kaye: Huh.
Adam: But a few million dollars can always make life a little more pleasant for you.
Kaye: How much were you planning on offering me,
Adam -- two million, three million?
Adam: You name it.
Kaye: Well, what's your worth? Aren't we talking billions?
Adam: Yeah. Just give me a figure.
Kaye: What if I said I want it all -- I want all your money?

[Adam laughs]

Adam: There's that sense of humor again. I have no way of knowing what my net worth really is.
Kaye: That's right -- $2 to $5 billion is just an arbitrary number that measures the amount of power you have.
Adam: Yes, I suppose so.
Kaye: But there's a tried and true way of measuring that. And that's what I want, Adam.
Adam: Kaye, be smart.
Kaye: Well, you're used to getting what you want. So am I. You want David Hayward to go free. Well, I can do that. My price -- one night with you. Take it or leave it.
Adam: I can't give you an answer right now. Could we -- could we meet again, talk some more?
Kaye: All right. I'll make a reservation at The Country Inn tonight. We can talk all you want. But don't keep me waiting because I may take it out on the next defendant that walks into my courtroom. Excuse me.

Ryan: Liza? You ok? You thinking about Tad?
Liza: Oh. Well, I should be. I was thinking about Adam.
Ryan: Why don't you call him?
Liza: Uh-uh. No way. You don't understand. When we fight, I can't show any sign of weakness. He would take advantage of it. I mean, I have to keep myself angry at him so he knows I'm upset with him when what I'd really like to say is "thanks for the flowers."
Ryan: You two sure waste a lot of time. You do, Liza. When Gillian and I first got married, we used to play by those stupid rules. We used to throw things, slam doors, or go off on our own and sulk, wait for an apology, when all we should have been is together.
Liza: I know you're right.
Ryan: Well, then, call him.
Liza: No. No, I -- I can't. You don't understand. I can't apologize to him when he's at fault. I will never stop paying.
Ryan: Aren't you paying enough already?
Oh, my God, Liza, if there was a phone for me where I could actually reach Gillian, could you -- well, you know what? There isn't, so don't listen to me.
Liza: Where you going?
Ryan: I'm going where I go when I want to just forget about everything.
Liza: That sounds good. Can I come?
Ryan: Suit yourself.

Opal: Oh, what is happening to me?

[Eerie sounds]

Opal: Oh -- I really am going crazy. It's like -- like something is busted in my head.

[Sounds stop]

Opal: Oh, there, that's better. Oh, man. My feet.

[Opal sighs]

Opal: I kissed him full out on the lips. I kissed him. I didn't want to stop there, either. I wanted to undress him, piece by piece, just breathe him in. To lie down with him and feel the smooth, hard flesh of his arms, his chest, his belly, his -- where are these feelings coming from?

[Eerie sounds]

[Sounds stop]

Opal: I have got to get myself home and lock myself in before I do something that I feel sorry for.

[Eerie sounds]

Opal: Oh, my sweet Lord. Could it be I'm not crazy? I'm not alone here, am I?
Opal: Hello? Is there someone else here?

Dixie: So where -- where are you going to go?
Tad: I don't know. Right now Mateo's got to come up with a place for me to hide. You just remember what I said about that armed guard. You always make sure he's there.
Dixie: I will, ok? I have -- Derek has a policeman following me around constantly. He's out in the parking lot by my car. I'm not worried about me, Tad.
Tad: Good. Well, that's good. That's ok. Just tell the boys that I'll be back as soon as I can and I'm always, always thinking about them.
Dixie: I will. We'll always be thinking about you, too.
Tad: I am always with you. Always. All you ever have to do is reach down and grab the star around your neck, and you'll know that I'm right there. I'm right beside you, always.
Dixie: Ok. Here. You keep this. Come back to me.

Mateo: Back alley's clear. Come on.
Tad: Ok. Ok.
Tad: We've got years left. I promise.

Dixie: Where did Opal go?

David: Dixie, why are you so upset? What happened?
Dixie: I was in Mateo's office. I was calling the police to see if there was any information about Tad.
David: And was there?
Dixie: No. No one knows where he is. No one.
David: You really shouldn't be driving in this condition. Let me take you home.
Dixie: I have a police officer assigned to me. I'm sure I'll be able to get home without getting into a traffic accident.
David: All right. If you're sure. I'm just worried about you, that's all.
Dixie: Well, don't be.
Dixie: Excuse me. I have to go.
David: Dixie -- look. I know you don't want to hear this right now, but I still think of you. And even after everything that's happened, it upsets me to see you like this. Now, I know that Tad is your soon-to-be ex-husband, but I also know that he's still a part of your life. So I'm sorry that this has happened to him.
Dixie: You know, that's kind of funny. I think you can't believe your luck.
David: I understand why you would think the worst of me. But just know I really just want your happiness. That's it.
Dixie: I don't know where you get your information from, but Tad and I are back together and we love each other more than we ever have before, ok, despite all the mistakes we've made. So why don't you just leave me alone.

Adam: It's over.

Liza: The community center? I mean, this is where you go to forget all your troubles? I thought maybe you'd take me to the top of a mountain or to watch the tide come in.
Ryan: I wasn't taking you anywhere. You asked me if you could tag along.
Liza: Well, you know, I know I'm supposed to feel sorry for you because you're grieving and all, but you really are pretty rude.
Ryan: Come on, Liza, let's do it. What do you say? One-on-one?
Liza: You want me to play basketball?
Ryan: Yeah. You work up a little sweat and fall down dead tired.
Liza: Oh, well, doesn't that sound inviting!

[Liza chuckles]

Ryan: It's the only way I can get some sleep without a bottle of scotch, Liza. What do you say? And I promise I won't take it easy on you because you're a girl. In fact, I'll wipe the floor with you.
Liza: Well, as much as I enjoy a challenge, I don't necessarily like challenges that make me sweat.
Ryan: Well then, could you please get out of my way and cheer me on? Hey. No problem with this basket.

[Liza chuckles]

Opal: Who's there? Is someone making contact?

[Voice-like sounds]

Opal: Oh! I'm right. There is someone there. Who are you? Tell me your name.

[Voice-like sounds]

Opal: You can trust me. I've done this before, you know. Well, it felt a whole lot different than this time, but -- oh, my sweet, sweet daughter Jenny has contacted me from the beyond, and, in fact, I felt her presence several times. And it's not at all scary, you know. In fact, it's -- it's very wonderful. And so if there really is someone here and you have something that you want to tell me, you --

[Voice-like sounds]

Opal: Oh, oh, what was I thinking? I never do this alone. I need outside help, so -- oh, here. I'm just going to -- see, I'm going to call Frederick, yeah. He is a genuine psychic. I go to him for all of my extrasensory needs. Oh, damn. Voice mail. Wouldn't you know. Yeah, Frederick, listen, it's Opal here, and I am in dire need of your special talents. So could you please get back to me pronto? Yeah that means ASAP, right. Ok -- well, I'm sure that Frederick will be able to help us here.

[Agitated Voice-like sounds]

Opal: Oh, oh! It hurts! Now, listen, I am trying to cooperate here, ok? And you're just rattling around in my brain like a box of broken china!

[Voice stops]

Opal: That wasn't very nice. Are you still here? Well, are you mad? Oh, Lord. Maybe I am crazy after all. Might be easier. I don't even know if you're real, ok? So you have to try a little harder to make yourself understood or just find somebody else to contact.
Opal: All right. Ok, all right. Look, I'll count to three. And if you have not made yourself known to me in that amount of time, then I will have to assume that this was just some absurd figment of my imagination and just try to forget the whole thing ever happened. All right. Are you ready? All right, one.
Opal: Two.
Opal: Are you a princess?

Voice: Opal, it's me. Yes, I'm a princess!

Opal: What? What did you say?

Voice: Think! Think, Opal!

Opal: I got to think. I got to think. Let's see now. What happened tonight? Well, I went nuts, and then I walked over to Ryan and kissed him for no reason at all. Then I told him that I loved him.

Voice: Opal, who loves Ryan? Who loves Ryan?

Opal: "Who loves Ryan?" Oh, I can really feel you now. Yeah. Well, the person who loves Ryan would be his wife. His wife. Oh! It's you, isn't it?

Gillian's voice: Yes, Opal. It's me.

Opal: Oh!

Ryan: Come on. Want to give it a try?
Liza: Well, you know, is there any way to make that a little more interesting?
Ryan: Like?
Liza: Well, I mean, is there any way that people bet money on basketball?
Ryan: Yeah. You can bet money. In fact, I'll bet you $10 that you can't make a shot from 10 feet.
Liza: Why are you such a cheapskate? I mean, I pay you a good salary.
Ryan: I just don't want to take all your money, Liza.
Liza: Well, maybe you wouldn't take all my money. Maybe I have hidden talents.
Ryan: I bet you do.
Liza: Maybe I would surprise you.
Ryan: And I'm willing to be surprised.
Liza: Ok. Well, then, how much would you pay me if I tried to make it from center stage?
Ryan: I think you mean mid court.
Liza: Yeah. Yeah, that's what I meant.
Ryan: Yeah.
Liza: How much would you bet if I tried to make it from there?
Ryan: I'll give you $100 if you could sink a shot from mid court.
Liza: $100?
Ryan: Yeah.
Liza: Well, that looks easy. I don't want to break a nail or anything.
Ryan: No. You know what? $100 Is nothing. Let's make it 200.
Liza: $200?
Ryan: Yeah.
Liza: Ok.
Ryan: What?
[Liza makes the basket ]

Liza: Show me my money.
Ryan: I can't believe this!

[Liza laughs]

David: What's over?
Adam: Our deal.
David: Have you gone to see Judge Campobello?
Adam: Yes. I did my damnedest to bribe her. She doesn't want my money. I tried. I've lived up to my end of the bargain, and I expect you to live up to yours.
David: Forget it, Adam. Our deal is on. You have to try harder, offer her more.
Adam: No -- the woman cannot be bought with money.
David: Then you have to find something that she wants.
Adam: I promised that I would do my best to get you off. I risked millions here, anything. But not my marriage.
David: Your marriage? What the hell does your marriage have to do -- no. You can't be serious. Oh, no, Adam. No, this is good. What, she offered you -- you offered her money and she turned you down? She wants you instead?

[David laughs]

Adam: It'll never happen. The woman is insane.
David: Oh, this is rich. What, she -- she wants your sexual favors, is that it? Oh, Adam, I can't believe this.
Adam: Be careful. You'll go too far.
David: Oh, not me, Adam. Looks like you're the one that's going to have to go all the way.

Mateo: You got enough cash?
Tad: Yeah, more than enough.
Mateo: Ok, you know where you're headed?
Tad: Yeah.
Mateo: You going to call me?
Tad: Yes.
Mateo: You know how to get a hold of me?
Tad: Yes.
Mateo: Ok.
Tad: One last favor to ask, ok? Look after my family.
Mateo: Of course. Of course. Be careful, all right?
Tad: Matt -- thank you.
Mateo: Just go.
Tad: Yeah.

Tad: I love you, Dixie.

Dixie: I love you, too, Tad. Come back to me.

Adam: There is no way in hell I will give that woman what she wants.
David: Oh, on the contrary, Adam. All right, look, I know you came here for our ritual, ok, so let's do it again. I have proof that your son stole drugs. I can also place him at a murder scene. Unless you fix my trial, Adam, I'm going to ruin J.R.'S life. So is that what you needed to hear?
Adam: That was not the deal we made.
David: I know. I know you would have preferred to just hand the old broad a few million dollars -- no sweat. Well, this, however, is going to require a little sweat, Adam. But you're going to do it, and you know why? Because there's nothing you won't do for your family. Even this.
Adam: I have to think of Liza.
David: Liza doesn't have to know. Oh, come on, Adam. You're a master at keeping secrets. And this one is -- well, it's a doozy.
Adam: Don't think for a minute you've won anything, Hayward. Not a thing. When this is all over with, even if you walk away a free man, you've made yourself a very powerful enemy.

Ryan: 160, 180, 200. You played me.
Liza: You were easy.
Ryan: Where did you learn how to do that?
Liza: My dad, hour after hour after hour in the driveway.
Ryan: Shooting hoops?
Liza: Hmm. He used to say, "when the defense gets tight, you go to the hole." I try to do that in real life.
Ryan: Well, how old were you?
Liza: Oh, I was 14, I think, or 15. He wanted a son, I think, but it made me tougher.
Ryan: All right. Well, how about a real game?
Liza: Hmm. I don't think you can afford it.
Ryan: Well, I can't go home yet. I'm not tired enough.
Liza: You never stop thinking about her?
Ryan: Come on. I know where we can go next. Come on.

Opal: Gillian? Is it you?

Gillian's voice: Yes, it's me.

Opal: Oh, my! Oh, my! We did it, we did it! And without Frederick!

Gillian's voice: I thought we'd never understand each other.

Opal: Oh, but we do now! Oh, you poor little thing. I -- I am so sorry for what happened. But why -- why did you choose me to contact? Well, I mean, I'm proud and -- and I'm honored. Is there something I can do to help you, Honey?

Gillian's voice: Opal, yes. I need your help. It's about Ryan.

Opal: Oh, I can hear you so clearly now, much clearer than I ever heard Jenny. You must be very close. Have you not passed over yet, Honey? Where are you?

Gillian's voice: Turn around, Opal.

[Opal turns around - sees Gillian - and faints!]

ON THE NEXT - - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Marcus: Outside, now.

Opal: Your prayers have been answered.

Marian: I am warning you. You stay away from my daughter.

Liza: What is Adam up to now?

Kaye: Adam. Just like old times.
