ALL MY CHILDREN

JUNE 16, 2000

[Music plays]

Hayley and Tina: La la la
Hayley: Ok, now that the celebratory hair dance is done, we can stop acting bizarre. Let me just check my makeup.
Tina: Oh, stop. You're just fidgeting now. You look -- you look perfect. You're glowing. You don't need anything else.
Hayley: Compliments of sheer, unadulterated bliss. Oh, please! I'm in my robe!
Tina: The candid pictures are always the best. Unless you want to strike a pose.
Hayley: Thank you.
Tina: That's the one you're going to frame.
Hayley: Yes.
Tina: Just watch.
Hayley: Thanks for helping me get ready today.
Tina: Thanks for asking me to be your bridesmaid. You know, I've never been one before.
Hayley: And for this you're thanking me? Wait till you rack up a few more hideous, never-to-be-worn-again bridesmaids' dresses in your closet.
Tina: No, this is all worth it. Seriously, I've never been in a place long enough to form lasting relationships. This means a lot to me.
Hayley: I'm glad we're friends, too. Besides, you're not just standing up for me, you're standing guard for me, and for that I am eternally grateful.
Tina: You know, when I met your mom, I thought -- I thought she was looking out for you. I had no idea she was so much trouble.
Hayley: We, she just wanted something from you. She can't be trusted. I'm really shocked that Arlene hasn't sent me a poison apple or a box of chocolates laced with rum by now.
Tina: Well, don't worry. I've got everything under control.
Hayley: I know you do.

[Knock on door]

Woman: Got something for Hayley.
Tina: Uh-huh. I see. Ok. I think this one's ok to let in. I'll be waiting outside.

Marian: Oh, Hayley, you make a stunning bride.
Hayley: Thanks.
Marian: I'm sorry to interrupt you on your wedding day.
Hayley: No, Marian. Sit, please.
Marian: Thank you. I was going to leave this on the gift table for you, but I thought you might want to see it before the wedding so he could be with you today. Stuart started this the moment he heard that you and Mateo announced your wedding plans. He was going to give it to you as a wedding present. He would have framed it, of course, but he hadn't finished it yet.
Hayley: Oh. It's the beach where Mateo and I met. He's the best.

Esther: Would you like some coffee?
Stuart: Oh, no. You know, I think -- you ever thought of trying chamomile tea? I think I'd like that. Do I like that?
Esther: You're not picky. You like a lot of things. How you doing with that cactus I brought you?
Stuart: Oh, great. I just love sketching, now that I'm getting -- remembering how to do it. I hope this is just the beginning because now that I'm remembering how to draw, maybe I'll start remembering the rest of my life.

Alex: Hi.
Edmund: Hi. I figured you might be here.
Alex: Did you see my note?
Edmund: Yes, I did. That's why I rode out here. How long you been out here?
Alex: Since dawn. Saw a beautiful sunrise. I didn't worry you, did I? I just thought that I needed to get out and ride and try to clear my head.
Edmund: What is on that pretty mind of yours?
Alex: Oh, everything.
Edmund: I figured. Dimitri?
Alex: You think things happen for a reason, and, like, there's no coincidences?
Edmund: Yeah, I do.
Alex: So then Dimitri came into my life at exactly the right time.
Edmund: These are deep thoughts for so early in the morning.
Alex: It's true, though, because before I met Dimitri I was completely closed down. I wasn't even practicing medicine. I was too afraid to trust anyone. I was just hidden away in my research. And now everything has changed.
Edmund: I am extremely grateful to him for that.
Alex: Me, too. You know, I used to feel that I had to keep my time at Bryn Wydd hidden away like a nasty little secret. Wow. Dimitri would be really shocked to find out there'd be such ramifications.
Edmund: Dimitri knew about Bryn Wydd?
Alex: Yeah. I mean, not the way that we do. I mean, he knew that I was in a private sanatorium. He didn't know why I was there exactly.
Edmund: Interesting.
Alex: I had to tell him. You know, we were about to be married. He had a right to know about my past, or lack thereof.
Edmund: Did he ever mention anything to you about checking into your history? You know, anything like that?
Alex: No. We were completely focused on his illness and trying to find a cure. What is it?
Edmund: I just know my brother. I know him. He's like me. He's extremely protective of you and also a bit of a hothead.
Alex: Yeah? What's your point?
Edmund: My point is he wouldn't -- he wouldn't just let it go. He would look into your past whether you had knowledge of it or not.
Alex: I don't see how he could have.
Edmund: He had far-reaching sources, and he was determined.
Alex: Yeah, but -- no, I don't think so. I mean, I don't think he would've gone digging around at that particular time. What?
Edmund: The housekeeper at Bryn Wydd -- didn't she say that we weren't the only people checking into your hospitalizing? Maybe Dimitri was looking into your past, too.
Alex: No. If Dimitri would've started his own investigation, don't you think he would have told me?
Edmund: Maybe. I don't know. Maybe he wanted to protect you, not get your hopes up.
Alex: Yeah, well, he couldn't have gotten very far, and I hope that he didn't because he had enough on his mind without taking on Bryn Wydd.
Edmund: You mean, like fighting for his life?
Alex: Yeah.
Edmund: Yeah. Hey --
Alex: Hmm?
Edmund: Did you notice how easy it was just now talking about Dimitri?
Alex: Yeah. Should be. We should be able to speak our minds freely.
Edmund: And to take care of each other.
Alex: And we do.
Edmund: Yeah, we do.
Edmund: And? What else? What else?
Alex: I really don't know what to make of those fingerprint results. I mean, I -- I don't see how it's possible that my fingerprints could be an exact match for Anna Devane's. I don't believe that at any point in my life I've spent time as another person.
Edmund: We'll get to the bottom of it.
Alex: And then what? You know, I was up half the night trying to piece together what I know about Anna and Robin. What if I was to turn up in that little girl's life again? She thinks her mother's dead. I mean, that would just create utter turmoil for her. I'm not going to do that. Oh, God. This is such a bloody mess.
Edmund: Hey, will you have some patience? You're not going to figure it all out in one horseback ride.
Alex: Why not? I better get Scorpio back. He's probably thirsty.
Edmund: Hey -- we will figure this out.
Alex: You have considered the possibility that I may not be the person that you think I am?
Edmund: I don't care what your name is? You're the woman I love. You got that?
Alex: My life could be based on a lie, you know.
Edmund: Believe this -- I love you and I trust you.
Alex: I love you. I trust you.
Edmund: Ok. Want to go to a wedding with me?
Alex: Yeah. What time is it? Oh, my God, I'm never going to be ready.
Edmund: I'll race you home.
Alex: You have to catch me first.
Edmund: Ok. Oh, your hat.
Alex: Oh, you cheat!

Eliot: Brooke.
Brooke: Uh --
Eliot: Is everything all right?
Brooke: Yes, I'm fine. Weddings. They just -- they get me every time.
Eliot: Thought it was the flowers. You look lovely.
Brooke: Oh, thank you. Thank you. You look very -- uh -- casual.
Eliot: Well, you know, a quick game of basketball helps to loosen me up before I actually have to say the words, "thereto I plight thee my troth."
Brooke: Oh, you're kidding.
Eliot: Yes, actually, I am. We don't say that anymore.
Brooke: Oh, good.
Eliot: What's with the sentry out front?
Brooke: Oh, actually, there's one out back, too. Adrian and Mateo hired security. They just wanted to keep any unwanted elements away from the wedding -- IE., Arlene Vaughan.
Eliot: Wow. You guys don't mess around.
Brooke: Well, you've met the woman. Right?
Eliot: I get your point.
Brooke: Sorry.

Erica: Brooke?
Brooke: Yes?
Erica: I'm looking for Hayley.
Brooke: Oh, well, I think she's a little busy right now.
Erica: Hello, Rev. Freeman. It's so nice to see you again.
Eliot: Likewise.
Erica: Thank you. Where is Hayley?
Brooke: She hasn't arrived yet.
Erica: Oh. I need to see her.
Brooke: Maybe I could give her a message for you.
Erica: No, thank you very much. It's private. However, I do also have a present for her. I had the chemist at Enchantment actually formulate an entire personal fragrance for her.
Brooke: Oh, that's very lovely. I could take it to her for you. I'm going to pick her up any moment.
Erica: No, you most certainly could not. I will delivery it to her personally. Really, Brooke, I think you're pushing this matron of honor thing a little bit too far. Maybe you ought to concentrate more on being the bride.
Brooke: You know, Erica, Hayley is busy today. She's getting married. And as many times as you have been married, I would think you would understand that.
Eliot: Ms. Kane, the bride's room is right off the vestibule. If you care to go wait for Hayley there, I'll let her know the moment that she arrives.
Erica: Thank you. Thank you very much. That is so considerate of you. Thank you.

Brooke: Where have you been all my life? Are you giving master classes?
Eliot: Yes.
Brooke: Oh.
Eliot: I better change into something more officious before I have to come back and say the words "love, honor, and obey."
Brooke: Ok.

Marian: You know, that's probably the last thing that Stuart drew before --
Hayley: I love it. It's beautiful. Thank you so much.
Marian: I'm so glad you like it.
Hayley: Are -- are you going to be ok today?
Marian: Oh, yes, of course. I mean, I love seeing two people deliriously happy and in love like you and Mateo are. Stuart would've, too, you know. He loved you very much, Hayley. Oh, dear. You keep this up, you're going to have to redo your makeup.
Hayley: I don't mind.
Marian: I'm not -- I don't want to make you late, so I'll see you at the chapel. Congratulations, and many, many blessings to you both.
Hayley: Thank you. Thank you.
Marian: Good-bye, darling. Oh, excuse me.

Tina: Oh, hold on. Where do you think you're going?
Mateo: I got to tell Hayley something.
Tina: No. No. No, you don't.
Mateo: Yes. Yes, I do.
Tina: No.
Hayley: What's going on out there?
Tina: Don't worry. Mateo's just trying to sneak in. But I have it under control.
Mateo: I'm not trying to sneak in anywhere. I just want -- I just want to say -- you know, kiss my bride and tell her I love her.
Tina: I'm sorry. You're just going to have to keep your lips to yourself, Sir.
Mateo: Ok, I know. Listen, you get points for, you know, trying to guard Hayley. It's very nice, but I want to go --
Tina: I don't think so. You know you're not supposed to see the bride on the wedding day.
Mateo: Oh, come on.
Tina: And why aren't you dressed?
Mateo: Please. Don't tell me you're superstitious, huh? That old tale --
Hayley: Mateo?
Mateo: What?
Hayley: Honey?
Mateo: Yes?
Hayley: With our track record, do you really think we should tempt fate?
Mateo: You're right. Can I talk to her through the door at least?
Tina: Sure.
Mateo: Yeah? Ok. Alone?
Tina: Ok.
Mateo: Mm-hmm.
Tina: Don't sneak in. I'm going to be right over here.
Mateo: Ok.

Hayley: Try not to be too hard on Tina. She's just looking out for me.
Mateo: I know. I missed you last night.
Hayley: I missed you, too. Did you have a good time with Max?
Mateo: Yeah, the best. You know, he really wanted to be here. Thank you so much for setting that whole thing up.
Hayley: Anything for my husband.
Mateo: I like the sound of that. You know, it's going to be official soon, baby.
Hayley: I know.
Mateo: I just wish I could make everything perfect for you, you know? I know it must be tough to have so many loved ones missing.
Hayley: It's tough on all of us.
Mateo: But we have each other, Hayley. Forever and ever.
Hayley: Amen.
Mateo: This is it. Our time, our shot, Hayley.
Hayley: I've waited for this for so long, Honey.
Mateo: Yeah, me, too. Listen, I just wanted to come by and tell you that -- not to worry, that I'm going to take good care of you, and, you know, I'll keep you safe and make you happy. You know that, right?
Hayley: You don't even have to ask, Mateo, because I'm going to devote my entire life doing the same for you. You bring out the best in me. I don't even know where I would be right now if I had never met you.
Mateo: Oh, please. I took one look at you and I knew how to get my act together. I said, "here's a woman who deserves it all, and I'm going to be the one who gives it to her."
Hayley: You have. You've given me everything. There's no way I could ever pay you back for all you've given me.
Mateo: Sure you can. Do me one favor.
Hayley: Anything.
Mateo: Marry me. Today.
Hayley: I will. Today and every day, for the rest of our lives.

Gillian: This is very important. The cake is not to come out until we call for it. Mateo is very adamant about that.
Maitre d': I'll alert the staff.
Scott: Gillian, how much longer? We really got to get to the church, huh?
Gillian: Just one more minute. Can we talk to whomever's bringing out the cake? I don't want there to be any mix-up or confusion.
Maitre d': Absolutely. Follow me.
Gillian: I'll be one minute.
Scott: Ok. I'm going to take this stuff out to the car. I'll meet you there.
Gillian: Ok.
Scott: All right.

Scott: Marian? Are you all right?
Marian: Oh, yes, I'm fine. It's just been a very emotional day.
Scott: It's been hard on you, huh?
Marian: Well, I was doing really quite well until Opal brought a psychic over the other night.
Scott: Not Frederick?
Marian: You know him?
Scott: Yeah.
Marian: Well, anyway, she thought I should try to get in touch with Stuart somehow
Scott: I think Edmund and Maria used him once.
Marian: Really?
Scott: Yeah.
Marian: It shouldn't even tell you about it but -
Scott: But what? Go on, you can tell me. Dad believed in psychics.
Marian: Well, I don't know how credible this man was, but he said he couldn't reach Stuart. But he made contact with your mother instead.
Scott: My mother? What did he say about my mother?
Marian: He said that Cindy told him that Stuart wasn't with her, that we were looking for him in the wrong place.
Scott: What's that supposed to mean?
Marian: I don't know, but I got so upset I just told him to leave. You don't think there was anything to this, do you?
Scott: Well, I don't know. What else did he say? Do you remember anything else?
Marian: No. Oh, yes, one thing. But then, I don't think it really meant anything.
Scott: What? What?
Marian: Well, at one point the house started smelling like gardenias. It was very, very distinct. It was almost intoxicating.
Scott: Gardenias. That was my mother's favorite flower. She used to wear a perfume called Gardenia Passion.

Esther: That's not a cactus. It's a flower.
Stuart: Yeah, I know. It's a gardenia. Isn't it great? I remember it.
Esther: But I brought you a cactus.
Stuart: Yeah, I know. But I saw this flower in my mind. I can almost smell the fragrance of it. Can't you?
Esther: I can't smell anything. Especially gardenias.
Stuart: Ok.

Judd: Hey, y'all. It's almost a scorcher out there already. Look what came in this morning. Your missing car part.
Stuart: Oh, that's nice.
Esther: Where's Marilyn?
Judd: In the kitchen, I reckon.

Esther: Marilyn!
Marilyn: What?
Esther: It's here! The car part. You can fix it now.
Marilyn: Is this what you're screeching about?
Esther: Mm-hmm.
Marilyn: I'll get it after breakfast. I'm just getting set up back there.
Esther: No! I'll take care of things. You go fix the car.
Marilyn: Why are you in such a rush? You've been here weeks already.
Esther: No, I want you to fix the car right now. Come on, please!
Marilyn: Here, wait, wait, wait a minute. Wait, wait.

[Knock on door]

Hayley: Tina?
Brooke: It's Brooke.
Tina: I can vouch for that.
Brooke: Hi, there!
Hayley: You look so beautiful.
Brooke: Oh, you -- listen, I'm very sorry that it took me so long, but I ran into Erica -- oh, never mind.
Hayley: What?
Erica: Anyway, a heads-up -- she's going to be waiting for you in the bride's room next to the vestibule.
Hayley: Sounds ominous. Any idea what she wants?
Tina: You would know if you were at the church.
Brooke: She has a point. We really should get going.
Hayley: Yes, I know.
Tina: Listen, I'll go tell the limo to wait outside.
Brooke: Ok.
Hayley: Ok! Ooh!
Brooke: Ooh! Have to stop making that sound!
Hayley: I know. I can't stop myself.
Brooke: Are you ready to do this?
Hayley: I am so ready.
Brooke: All right. Let's get your dress and get you married, ok?
Hayley: Ok. Let's go.

Edmund: There's no turning back now. Sure you want to go through with this?
Mateo: Yeah, I'm sure. The moment I laid eyes on Hayley, I knew there'd never be another woman for me.
Edmund: Well, in that case, why don't we find Rev. Freeman and have ourselves a wedding.
Mateo: Come on.
Scott: Why would Frederick talk about my mom?
Marian: Well, they have a way of finding out about people. I mean, maybe he read about Cindy's foundation in the paper.
Scott: Yeah, yeah, but the gardenias.
Marian: There's a gardenia bush right outside the door of the gatehouse, and maybe there was a breeze that night. Anyway, I'm sorry I brought it up. Just forget about it because I will, too. Can I help you carry some things to the car?
Scott: No. No, it's all right.
Marian: I'll walk you.

Ryan: Hey, hey, hey, hey --
Gillian: Hey.
Ryan: How are you? No, no, no -- listen, I want to scoop you up into my arms, but I can't because Greenlee's right outside, so --
Gillian: Oh, is she following you now?
Ryan: No, no. I asked her to be my date tonight.
Gillian: Oh, she's your date now.
Ryan: Yeah. What better way to throw her off our trail?
Gillian: But to date her?
Ryan: Well, you said appease her, so, you know --
Gillian: Yeah, I said appease her, not tease her. My English is not that bad.

Greenlee: Hey. Sweet dress. We better hurry. We don't want to be late. Why aren't you at the church?
Gillian: Oh, I had a few last-minute things to take care of.
Greenlee: Oh. Well, I'd offer you a ride, but I only brought the two-seater.
Ryan: Yeah, Greenlee drove.
Gillian: Oh, well, that's fine because I'm getting a ride with Scott.
Greenlee: Great. See you there.
Ryan: See you.

David: What are you doing here?
Leo: Haven't you heard, big brother? We sinners are encouraged to come to church.
David: This is a private affair, Leo. I didn't think that you would stoop to crashing weddings.
Erica: Oh, no, I invited Leo as my guest.
David: Why would you do that?
Erica: Well, he needed to get out of the house and he needed to be around positive people in a really happy atmosphere. And I don't know -- can you think of any more happy occasion than this wedding?
David: Did you tell Hayley about your meeting with Adam?
Erica: No. No, I didn't. I decided that that could wait. I mean, it's her day, and I just thought that might bring her down. So, ok, how about it, you two? You promise to love, honor, and behave yourselves?
Leo: Mm-hmm.
Erica: Well, all right, then. Shall we?

Tad: Still no sign of Adam.
Dixie: Yeah, this is sort of unbelievable. I thought he would still show up. Who's going to give Hayley away?

Liza: Well, Eli, the ceremony is getting ready to start. Well, just talk to George and then get back to me.
Tad: Late-breaking story?
Liza: Stock split.
Tad: Ah.
Liza: He can let me know listen, I'm sorry, but did I hear you say that Adam isn't here yet?
Dixie: It appears you did.
Liza: Well, I wouldn't worry. I mean, he may not get here in time to give her away, but I don't think that he would disappoint Hayley on her wedding day.
Tad: Oh, there's Dad. Would you excuse us?
Turn off your cell phone.

["Bridal March" plays]

Mateo: You look beautiful. Are you ready?
Hayley: Mm-hmm. Are you?
Mateo: Yeah. Yeah, I was born ready for this. Ok.

Eliot: Dear family and friends, welcome to this joyous and eagerly anticipated event. The marriage of Hayley Vaughan and Mateo Santos. Those who know you say you both exemplify love, so it is with great pleasure that I say-- dearly beloved, we have come together in the presence of god to witness and bless the joining together of this man and this woman in holy matrimony. Marriage is not to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently, deliberately, and in accordance with the purposes for which it was instituted by god. Into this holy union, Hayley Vaughan and Mateo Santos now come to be joined. If any of you can show just cause why they may not lawfully be married, speak now or forever hold your peace.

[Congregation laughs]

Eliot: I had to say that. Hayley, will you take this man to be your husband, to live together in the covenant of marriage? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and keep him in sickness and in health, and, forsaking all others, be faithful to him for as long as you both shall live?
Hayley: Yes, I will.
Eliot: Mateo, will you take this woman to be your wife, to live together in the covenant of marriage? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her in sickness and in health, and, forsaking all others, be faithful to her for as long as you both shall live?
Mateo: I will.
Eliot: Hayley, Mateo, our role as witnesses is to share in your happiness and rejoice in your triumph. Those here today have watched the two of you survive tremendous obstacles, recover from heartache and pain. These are the signs of true love. We were inspired by your love. Not only in its abundant and obvious joy, but by the way you've borne its sometimes pain. Life consists of both and all the moments in between. Who we are and who we become reflect these moments. This is evident with Hayley and Mateo. All they have shared has sealed their love and made them stronger. Will all of you witnessing Hayley and Mateo's promises do all in your power to uphold these two persons in their marriage?
Congregation: We will.
Eliot: Mateo, will you take Hayley's hand?
Mateo: In the name of God, I, Mateo, take you, Hayley, to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness, in health, to love and to cherish till death do us part. This is my solemn vow.
Hayley: In the name of God, I Hayley, take you, Mateo, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish until we are parted by death. This is my solemn vow.
Mateo: Hayley, I give you this ring as a symbol of my vow. With all that I am and all that I have, I honor you in the name of God.
Hayley: Mateo, I give you this ring as a symbol of my vow. And with all that I am and all that I have, I will honor you in the name of God.

Esther: That looks done. Why don't you draw the cactus now?
Stuart: Oh, well -- ok.
Marilyn: Car's all set. It's as good as new.
Esther: Oh! Thanks, Marilyn! Come on, Stuart. If we leave now, we can make Vegas by sundown.
Judd: Sure has been good having you folks around. I'm going to miss you.
Esther: Well, we'll send you a post card. Come on, Stuart!
Stuart: I don't want to leave now. I don't want to go.
Esther: Oh, you're hungry. We haven't had our breakfast yet.
Stuart: No, no. It's not because I'm hungry. I mean, I'm hungry. Yeah, I am. But that's not the reason I don't want to leave. There's something -- there's something about this place -- The Queen of Hearts -- that seems right.
Esther: Well, our car broke down here, Stuart. That's why we're here.
Stuart: I know, but we could stay a while longer. I like it here. You said that you wanted to wait here until we had the money to get married again.
Esther: Oh, well, we don't need a lot.
Stuart: But you want to do it right when we do it. So why can't we stay?
Esther: Sure. Ok. We'll stay.
Stuart: Good. Ok. Well, I'll make us some breakfast.
Judd: Sounds good to me. I'll give you a hand.

Marilyn: Temper, temper. What's the matter? Don't you like it here?
Esther: It's ok.
Marilyn: Then why are you in such a hurry to split? I mean, you're married already, right? Why are you in such a rush to say "I do" again if you already did?

Eliot: Now that Hayley and Mateo have given themselves to each other by solemn vows, with the joining of hands, and the giving and receiving of rings, I pronounce that they are husband and wife. Those whom god has joined together, let no one put asunder.
Congregation: Amen.
Eliot: Now, by the power vested in me by the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, I pronounce you husband and wife.

ON THE NEXT - - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Hayley: Dad! Oh, I knew you wouldn't forget my wedding.

Gillian: Room 619. I'll see you there.

Erica: Dimitri's barely dead and she's all over his brother.

Dimitri: Alex.
