ALL MY CHILDREN

JUNE 29, 2000

Singer: Latin lover Latin lover cool Latin lover Latin lover

Gillian: What are you doing here?
Ryan: Greenlee invited me, so I just decided to play along. You remember this song? We danced to it a long time ago.
Gillian: We'll dance to it again someday soon.

Singer: And now I've got my eyes set on you

Ryan: Tad's here. Tad's here, ok? I got to go. I love you. Ahem.

Greenlee: Were you talking to Gillian?
Ryan: Hmm? No, she was just picking out a song.
Greenlee: Really?
Ryan: Yeah.
Greenlee: Hmm.
Ryan: You want to -- you want to dance?
Greenlee: Yeah.

Singer: Let me be your cool Latin lover tonight I'll be your cool lover Latino yeah, hey

Jack: Sigma phi, right? We were fraternity brothers, right?
Eliot: Sorry. I've never been much of a joiner.
Jack: I know I know you. And, Brooke, you know me. I don't forget a face. Oh, it's just driving me absolutely crazy.
Brooke: Just so you know, he was already certifiable.
Jack: Did you ever box in college? Could we have ever met in the ring?
Eliot: Nope.
Brooke: Jackson, leave the man alone.
Jack: I will, I will, just as soon as I find out who you are.
Eliot: Well, let me know. I've been trying to find that out for years.
Jack: Oh. Whoa. Before this gets too existential, I've got a summary adjudication to finish.
Brooke: Take a cookie.
Jack: I will, thank you. It'll come to me.

Eliot: What?
Brooke: You fix boilers. You make jokes about your job. You wrest knives from juvenile delinquents. You love professional wrestling. You inspire homeless boys to go to college. I can't connect the dots.
Eliot: So enjoy the dots. Oh, hey, I just remembered something. Look, this is an essay that Evan wrote for English class. Now, this has a lot of information on him. You can give it to the reporter. It'll give him some insight if he agrees to the article.
Brooke: What's it about?
Eliot: Oh, you know, just some of the things that Evan's been through, his expectations for the future. It's great.
Brooke: You know, maybe we can publish some of this in the article. You really have helped change of this in the article. You really have helped change his life.
Eliot: Oh, he's changed mine.
Brooke: Listen, hold on a second, all right? I'm going to make a copy of this. That way, you know, nothing will happen to the original.
Eliot: Ok.
Brooke: I'll give you this back.
Eliot: Great.
Brooke: I don't believe this. What is he doing?

Alex: You've given me so much, Dimitri -- your love and now a future with Edmund. My mother doesn't think I ever got over you and that my feelings for Edmund aren't real. Well, she's right about one thing -- I'll always love you. You'll always be part of who I've become. My love for Edmund is real. I feel so close to you, as if you were a breath away. And yet I love your brother completely.
Edmund: Listen to her, Dimitri. Listen to her. It's not fair. It can't go on like this. She deserves to know that her husband is alive. Come on, let's do it -- now.
Dimitri: Don't you think I want to tell her, sweep her up into my arms and never let her go? Everything has changed, Edmund.
Edmund: Dimitri, there's no reason for you not to tell her. Come on. We can make this work.
Dimitri: It's too dangerous.
Edmund: We can tell her you're alive and still keep her safe.
Dimitri: And what about the shock of learning that her husband is back from the grave? You heard her just now. Let her live the life she's chosen.
Edmund: Dimitri, you got to tell her.
Dimitri: And when -- where -- where does this stop, Edmund? Do I tell her I was kidnapped by her mother, that the woman she calls "Mum" is ready to sacrifice her at any moment? For her safety and yours, she can't know.
Edmund: So, what are you sang? We tell her, she tells Charlotte, then we're all in danger?
Dimitri: As long as Charlotte is a threat, I don't exist. Where's Charlotte now?
Edmund: At the house.
Dimitri: Edmund, you promise me again -- do not let Alex alone with Charlotte for a second.

Alex: Is that you, Edmund?

Dimitri: Promise me.
Edmund: I promise.

Alex: Who are you talking to?
Edmund: Myself.
Alex: Oh, full moon.
Edmund: Hmm. Yeah, I was -- I was promising myself that I wouldn't let anything happen to you.
Alex: You don't have to follow me everywhere, you know.
Edmund: Maybe I want to.
Alex: Oh.
Edmund: I just -- I don't think you should be alone.
Alex: I don't feel alone out here. I don't. I feel comforted. Especially tonight. How did you know I'd be here?
Edmund: Uh -- we were talking about Dimitri, and it seemed like a natural choice.
Alex: You miss him so much, don't you?
Edmund: Let's get you back to the house where it's safe.
Alex: I feel safe with you.

Eliot: Who's doing what?
Brooke: Tad, my ex-husband. This is an internet news service. It says, "Tad Martin, former producer and talk show host, has been named co-chief executive officer of Chandler Enterprises. He will be sharing the position with Liza Colby, former wife of Adam Chandler."
Eliot: You're not happy.
Brooke: No, I'm happy for Tad, I mean, if this is what he wants. I just would have preferred a little more advance notice so I could, you know, sort of prepare Jamie.
Eliot: Oh, that's right. You and Tad share custody, so --
Brooke: Oh.
Eliot: Complicated?
Brooke: Well, you know, it could be a little more complicated now. I mean, Tad has always made time for Jamie, I mean, no matter how busy his schedule is. It's just that, you know, running a corporation like Chandler Enterprises -- it's a different thing. I mean, I -- the demands on Tad's time are going to be a lot greater.
Eliot: How do you think Jamie will take the news?
Brooke: Oh, you know, I think he'll be all right, you know, as long as tad has time to, you know, hang out and read stories, in-line skating, you know, all that important stuff.
Eliot: So, besides some minor adjustments, you have nothing to worry about, then.
Brooke: There's more to the story. Tad is sharing this position with Liza Colby. And as you notice, she has dropped Adam Chandler's last name.
Eliot: That's typical in a divorce.
Brooke: Yes, well, and I'm not telling tales out of school, but Tad and Liza have a history.
Eliot: You -- so that they shared the position in a biblical sense?
Brooke: Uh, yes. I mean, they have worked together since then at WRCW, but that's -- you know, that's different than running a company like Chandler Enterprises. And Dixie -- you know, Tad's wife -- has always been very supportive of Tad. But I don't think she's going to be very happy about the two of them working together.
Eliot: You close to Dixie?
Brooke: Well, we weren't always close, but, you know, we are now. And I just think that Tad and Liza working together is for her. So --
Eliot: Boy. You take care of a lot of people. You're the editor of a prestigious magazine, you have a son who's happy and well-adjusted, and you still find time to be an angel of mercy to half the people in this community. I think if Tad can juggle his priorities half as well as you, your family will be fine.
Brooke: I hope you're right.

Singer: Latin lover ooh, Latin lover

Tad: I got to tell you, I miss Dixie and her honey-do's already.
Gillian: Her melons?
Tad: Those, too. I was talking about what she would say to me -- "honey, would you do this? Honey, would you do that?"
Gillian: Oh.
Tad: Yeah. Now that my wife and kids are gone, I don't know what to do with myself. Thanks for calling me.
Gillian: Oh, I had no plans.
Tad: Oh. You must be lonely without Jake.

Tina: Excuse me.
Tad: Ah. Thank you, Tina.
Gillian: Thank you.
Tina: You're welcome.
Tad: A toast -- to my bodacious wife and the two most wonderful boys in the world. May they have an exciting and adventurous summer and come home happy -- happy -- it's really that good -- happy and healthy and sooner than later.
Tad: Your turn.
Gillian: What?
Tad: A toast.
Gillian: To Jake. May God protect him.
Tad: And bring him home safe and sound. And to me, the new co-CEO of Chandler Enterprises.
Gillian: Congratulations.
Tad: Thank you, really. Thank you. Thank you very much. Just goes to show you -- one day you're unemployed and the next day you're a whip-cracking power honcho on Wall Street. Liza said she couldn't do it without me. Who was I to disagree? Either way, it's going to be a heck of a summer job. What is it with those two?
Gillian: Who?
Tad: Adrian and Tina. Excellent. Some major chemistry there, but it's the clumsiest courtship I've ever seen.
Gillian: Too bad.
Tad: Now, those two on the other hand -- I'd say they know exactly what they want. He still gets to you, doesn't he?
Gillian: Who?
Tad: Ryan.

Jack: Excuse me, but I've finally got it. Law school -- you were two years behind me. Am I right? Am I right?
Eliot: No.
[Brooke laughs]

Jack: Damn! I was so sure I was right.
Eliot: No.
Brooke: You know, once you get to know Jackson, you'll find out he's an OK guy. You just have to get used to his quirks.
Eliot: Oh.
Jack: And you'll be dazzled when I remember, believe me. Back to my briefs.

Brooke: Well, I think that things will go a lot easier with you if you just give Jackson an unabridged, completely annotated story of your life from the day that you were born.
Eliot: Did you know that Evan has kept a journal for years? Sometimes he would write it out on scraps of paper because he didn't have anything else to write on.
Brooke: Would you like some coffee?
Eliot: No, thanks.
Brooke: You know what I would think would be nice -- if Jamie met Evan after he comes back from camp.
Eliot: Camp? Aha. So that's it.
Brooke: What?
Eliot: Well, the takeout, your working late tonight.
Brooke: Oh. Well, you know, the truth of the matter is, the more I get done work-wise while he's gone, then the more time I have with him when he -- when he's, you know, back with me.
Eliot: It's admirable.
Brooke: It's selfish. You know, Jamie and Laura are both my miracles in life. You know, Laura will always be my little one, always, you know? She'll never be a day older than the day she died. And -- and I guess that's why I get greedy about Jamie. It's just to watch him, you know, grow up into this wonderful person. It's like a gift to me, you know? And I don't want to miss any of it. I'm sure you have a zillion things to do other than to listen to some mom get sentimental over her son.
Eliot: Don't apologize for loving your child.
Brooke: I love him so much I think sometimes I'll smother him.
Eliot: There's no such thing as too much of that kind of love. Jamie is lucky to have a mother like you.

Gillian: What Ryan and I had is over.
Tad: You know, if you want to talk, I'll listen.
Gillian: Thank you. But, I mean, it's obvious that he's with Greenlee now, and it's fine with me.
Tad: Well, if that's the case, then why is it that he can never take his eyes off you and you haven't heard a single word I've said?
Gillian: Yes, I have! I have. You -- and I agree with you. I agree. Tina and Adrian -- they seemed like a couple at Hayley and Mateo's wedding, and -- and now it's almost like they can't stand each other.
Tad: Well, sometimes true love needs a little nudge. So if you coach Tina, I'll take care of Adrian. What do you say?
Gillian: I guess. Sure. It's true, you know -- sometimes even true love needs a little help.
Tad: All right, then. Stoke that fire before it goes up in smoke.
Gillian: I'm just going to go get some romantic music -- pick it out.
Tad: That's a good idea.

Gillian: I think Tad's suspicious. Maybe if you and Greenlee looked more like a couple.
Ryan: Really?

Singers: Feel it your soul feel it on your body

Greenlee: Here you go. Ryan?
Ryan: Ahem -- oh! Hey, you didn't have to get me this.
Greenlee: Well, I invited you. Remember?
Ryan: Yeah.
Greenlee: Hey, what's up?
Ryan: Nothing. Just work, I guess --
Greenlee: No, no, no, none of that, none of that, ok? The office is closed. Unless there's something else going on.
Ryan: There's nothing else. Greenlee, I'm -- I'm all yours. It's just you and me tonight.

Singers: All day long the rhythm just won't stop

Charlotte: Where is she?
Alex: Hi.
Charlotte: Oh.
Alex: Were you waiting for me?
Charlotte: Well, I was just worried. I didn't know where you'd got to.
Alex: Oh, I just went for a walk --
Edmund: We just took a walk, yeah. And she's exhausted now, so I think a good night's sleep is just what the doctor ordered.
Alex: Yes.
Charlotte: Well, I was hoping that maybe we could have a nightcap and catch up. What is it they're called -- "girl talks"?

[Alex laughs]

Edmund: Uh -- that sounds great, but I'm sorry to disappoint you. I just had a new alarm system installed here, and, well, I can't turn it on until you, you know, leave the room.
Charlotte: What? You're kicking me out of my daughter's room?
Alex: That's a bit extreme, Edmund.
Edmund: Look, I'm -- did I say "kick"? Look, there have been several attempts on Alex's life, seriously, and -- and whoever did it is still at large. So until we've taken care of whoever that is, I'm setting that alarm every night. So I hope you understand. I'm sorry.
Charlotte: I have an idea. We'll have a slumber party, and then I don't have to leave. How about it, Sash? Hot toddies, some of that Turkish delight that I brought you from England. What do you say?
Alex: Actually I'd prefer it if you did go.
Charlotte: What?
Alex: I know, it -- I want to spend some time with Edmund.
Charlotte: Oh. I understand. Ok. Well, we can have plenty of time for catch-up.
Alex: All right.
Charlotte: Good night, Edmund.
Edmund: Good night, Charlotte.
Charlotte: Good night, sweetheart.
Alex: Good night.
Charlotte: Sleep well.

Alex: Mm-hmm. I will. What's happened between you and my mother?
Edmund: What do you mean?
Alex: "What do you mean?" No. What has she said? Has she said something to you?
Edmund: About what?
Alex: About us.
Edmund: Yeah. I think she's annoyed that I'm prodding you about your past, and she thinks I'm a tad overprotective.
Alex: Well, she has a point.
Edmund: Hey.
Alex: Actually, she said something to me about us.
Edmund: Really?
Alex: Mm-hmm.
Edmund: What'd she say?
Alex: She doesn't think I love you really and it's an infatuation because you're Dimitri's brother. I told her that for all her intelligence, she doesn't know real love when she sees it. Besides, I'm a bit of a contrarian. You know, when she told me not to play with matches, I set a bonfire. And then when she told me not to go out in the rain, I went out stark naked.
Edmund: You were a handful.
Alex: I still am. Every time she warns me against you, I just want to do this.

Charlotte: I need to see you now. No, that -- we don't have time for that. We have to act immediately or we'll risk losing everything, and I don't want that to happen. Clever man, but not that clever.

Quinn: You couldn't get Alex on her own?
Charlotte: Not with that fellow of hers glued to her side. I thought it would be easy to separate Alexandra from Edmund. But unfortunately they're genuinely in love. And love produces heroes.
Quinn: And martyrs.
Charlotte: I don't want to kill Edmund. Well, not unless it's absolutely necessary.
Quinn: What are you going to do?
Charlotte: I'll get what I want. Lovers who are awash in emotion are easy to manipulate.

Alex: What is it?
Edmund: Charlotte -- she's quite a character, isn't she?
Alex: What? Yeah. Eccentrics are one of England's biggest exports.
Edmund: She's very protective of you.
Alex: I suppose so. I mean, that's all relatively new, you know. It was always my dad that tucked me in at night, and then, when I got older, he gave my boyfriends the third degree. I mean, love was all very well and good for her, but it took her away from her main objective which was work. My dad was a big old softie. She didn't have time for all that nonsense, you know.
Edmund: So don't you think it's odd that she's so keenly interested now?
Alex: Yeah. I admit it's a bit of a surprise. But it's not horrible.
Edmund: Mm-hmm. Just why the sudden turnaround?
Alex: I guess as she's grown older she's learned what we've known all along -- that love is what is important.

Charlotte: Alexandra always was a difficult creature. Oh, this is a mess. Do you have anything else for me?
Quinn: You were right about Adrian sword.
Charlotte: I knew the name was familiar. What have you got?
Quinn: Dossier's being compiled. What will you do with him?
Charlotte: Well, first of all, I want to find out how Mr. Sword is linked to Alexandra and Edmund. Then I'll decide.

Adrian: My love life is off-limits from you, all right?
Tad: You don't have a love life.
Adrian: Look, not that it's any of your business, but Tina and I are --
Tad: Absolutely nowhere. I've been watching you for the last couple months. It's like looking at a puppet show. By now you should know what she likes in her coffee in the morning. What the hell's wrong with you?
Adrian: Why don't you ask her? I mean, she flashes all these signals like she's interested. Then bang, out of nowhere, I'm a snob. I don't know what I want. I'm this, I'm that. I'm everything, but I'm not right.
Tad: But that's not true. She's completely into you, and everybody knows it. All you got to do is get down, get busy. Yeah, take her back to your place, dim the lights, put on a little Marvin, see what happens.
Adrian: Listen, Tina hasn't had very much stability in her life, all right? And to be quite honest, I don't want to be held responsible if this thing doesn't work out and she ends up getting hurt.
Tad: So you're not going to do anything? You know what your problem is? You think too much. She's into you, you're into her. That's all you have to know.
Adrian: Thank you, Dr. Ruth. I have customers.
Tad: Do you think she's attractive?
Adrian: Well, what do you think?
Tad: Do you think she's smart?
Adrian: Yes.
Tad: Sweet?
Adrian: Yeah.
Tad: Does she make your yin yang?
Adrian: You know, you've got problems.
Tad: Nope. That's all you have to know. You just keep it that way.

Tina: It's just so complicated.
Gillian: It doesn't have to be. You like him, don't you?
Tina: Totally. But he doesn't get the message.
Gillian: Well, have you told him how you feel yet?
Tina: W can I? I don't know where he's coming from. One day, he's romantic. The next day, he's like a stranger. And it didn't help that I played hard-to-get and told him I was leaving with BBMak. It totally backfired.
Gillian: Before, I used to play games with men.
Tina: Did it work?
Gillian: Sure. But it didn't last and it wasn't real. When it's real love, you don't have to force it. It'll just -- it'll just happen.
Tina: When? I'm beginning to think Adrian and I are never going to be together.
Gillian: Being apart from the man you love -- that's the worst thing in the world.
Tina: So, what's the answer? Is it totally hopeless?
Gillian: True love's never hopeless. Sometimes you just got to help it along a little.
Tina: I know, but what should I do?
Gillian: Be honest.

Tad: But not too honest. Dixie still thinks I like her meat loaf.

Gillian: Tell him how you feel.

Tad: Don't be afraid to let her know you're crazy about her. Go ahead. Make a fool out of yourself. It works, trust me. Take it from the love weasel. It's my specialty. And another thing -- ever since I fell in love with Dixie, my life has changed for the better. I want that for you, too.

[Greenlee laughs]

Tad: How'd it go?
Gillian: Tina's crazy about Adrian, but she's scared. She's afraid to care too much.
Tad: Well, they have a lot in common.
Tad: This should be interesting.
Gillian: Mm-hmm.

Adrian: Pretty big crowd, huh?
Tina: Yeah. Great tips.
Adrian: Yeah, I was -- was wondering if you were busy right now.
Tina: Um -- I was just about to take --
Man: Excuse me?
Tina: Another round to table three. Excuse me.

Edmund: Maybe I should check --
Alex: Oh, what is it?
Edmund: I'm just worried.
Alex: Stop it! There's nobody in the house except family and security. And you're here to protect me.
Edmund: With my life.
Alex: Do you love me?
Edmund: Yeah.
Alex: Then show me.

Brooke: Hi. Sorry it took so long. Our copier can be rather temperamental. Listen, thank you before for listening -- again.
Eliot: What?
Brooke: I worry sometimes about Jamie that I -- you know, that I'm not able to provide him with -- with a traditional family.
Eliot: Hey, a lot of traditional families don't nurture their children well. I mean, so what that you're a single mom? You put your heart on the line every day, a lot of times for people you don't even know. Mean, that's very courageous. And what better example to set for a child?
Brooke: Tad has to take a lot of credit for it, too. I mean, his father abused and abandoned him, and so he's determined to be a great father. He's so kind. He's so patient, you know? He never backs off from telling Jamie how much he loves him.
Eliot: It's too bad more people don't understand how important it is for a boy to have a father like that.
Brooke: Well, you seem OK. You know, your father must have been a good guy.
Eliot: Well, my father -- now, he had high expectations of himself and -- well, and his children. He had a lot of trouble showing love, but I guess he did have a certain affection for us. He was from the "spare the rod, spoil the child" school.
Brooke: You're so compassionate. You know? Usually a tough father creates a tough son.
Eliot: Oh, I was tough. I was a real rebel and proud of it.
Brooke: And what happened?
Eliot: I guess I realized that I didn't really like the person that I'd become.
Brooke: And you changed.
Eliot: I worked real hard to try to become the kind of person that, well, I admired.
Brooke: And now what?
Eliot: Aren't we all works in progress? Why the Cheshire cat grin?
Brooke: Oh, it's just nice to know something about the man behind the collar.
Eliot: Well, time to get back to the Bible beat.
Brooke: You're the most irreverent Reverend I have ever met. Really. What do your bosses think?
Eliot: I respond to a higher authority.
Brooke: I have to go. I will call tomorrow to schedule an interview with Evan?
Eliot: Good.
Brooke: And I promise you, no photographers.
Eliot: Hey. Bless.
Brooke: Ok.

Jack: Rev. Freeman, I -- I remembered where I've seen you before.
Eliot: Really?
Jack: Yes. It was Statesville -- Statesville prison.
Eliot: Statesville prison? What were you in for?
[Jack chuckles]

Jack: I was in there to see some clients, but that is where I saw you.
Eliot: You're right. I was at Statesville for a while, but I don't remember seeing you. Did we speak?
Jack: No. No, I don't believe we did. What were you doing there?
Eliot: Well, some good, I hope.
Jack: I hope so, too. Why were you there?
Eliot: I had a brief stint as a chaplain. You wouldn't believe the amount of men who are willing to bear their souls while they're doing time.
Jack: Chaplain. Of course. Why didn't you say so?
Eliot: What, and ruin your fun?
Jack: See you later.
Eliot: Ok.

Tina: Table three's all taken care of. What were you going to ask me?
Adrian: Um -- I wanted to -- come on. I want to do this.

Tad: Score one for the love weasel. I'd say our work here is done.
Tad: The weasel's a-shedding.
Gillian: What?
Tad: Just checking. Admit it, honey, please -- it's killing you to see Ryan with Greenlee, isn't it?
Gillian: Tad, it's nothing. I really don't care about Ryan. I have to go. I have to go check on Grandmama. She had a really long day with Alex's mom.
Tad: How? I drove.
Gillian: Take a cab. Good night.

Greenlee: Ahem.
Ryan: You know, it's getting -- it's getting really hot in here.
Greenlee: Exactly what I was thinking. Will you take me home? I want to spend the night with you.

Quinn: What do you want me to do about Adrian Sword?
Charlotte: Nothing at the moment. I have a more immediate concern. Edmund's attitude toward me has changed. He's become suspicious. We're going to have to act quickly.
Alex: What's wrong?
Edmund: Nothing. Nothing.

Alex: Don't you love me tonight?
Edmund: With all my heart.
Alex: Then make love to me.
Alex: Have I done something to upset you?
Edmund: Of course not.
Alex: Is it my mother?
Alex: What is it, Edmund?
Alex: Is it about Dimitri?
Edmund: Yeah. It's about my brother.

ON THE NEXT - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Greenlee: There's nothing sudden about this. It's long overdue.

Tina: You need a private tutor to teach you how to use your hands.
Adrian: When can you start?

Arlene: You give in to me and you embrace the man you can be.

Alex: Oh! What are you doing?
