ALL MY CHILDREN

JUNE 20, 2001

Judge: We are gathered here to celebrate one of life's greatest moments and to recognize the worth and beauty of love and to add our best wishes and blessings to the words that shall unite Laura and you. Who brings this woman to this man?
Brooke: I do.
Judge: Laura and Leo, life is given to us as individuals, yet we must learn to live together. Love is given to us by our families and friends. We learn to love by being loved. Learning to love and living together is one of the greatest challenges of life and is the shared goal of a married life. Leo, do you take Laura to be your wife? Do you promise to love, honor, cherish, and protect her, forsaking all others, in good times and bad, in sickness and in health, as long as you both shall live?
Laura: No.
[Guitarist stops playing]

Laura: I can't do this.

Alex: Letting her go -- that's the only option?
Joe: Yes, I'm afraid so. At least she's not in any pain. That's some comfort.
Alex: Very cold comfort.
Joe: Her doctors did all they could.
Alex: But it wasn't enough, was it, for Gillian? And for Ryan.
Joe: Alex, are you all right?
Alex: No, I'm not. I don't think I'll ever be all right again.

[Pager beeps]

Alex: Oh. Excuse me. Do you have a call? Dr. Marick?
Nurse: Mm-hmm, line one.
Alex: Yes, this is Dr. Marick.
Anna: Alex, it's Anna. We just got back and we heard about Gillian. Tell me she's going to be all right.
Alex: No. It's all over. The doctors did everything they could, but -- well, there's no brain activity.
Anna: Oh, God. Oh, God. I'm coming to the hospital.
Alex: No, Anna. This is the last place you should be.

Ryan: Jake? Is Gilly awake? Is she asking for me?
Jake: Ryan.
Ryan: Just -- you know what a warrior my wife is. She'll fight through this. There's not going to be any permanent damage, is there, from -- from the bullet? After rehab, she's going to be all right?
Jake: I wish --
Jake: I wish that I had better news.
Ryan: We're still going to be able to make our Honeymoon, aren't we? I mean, I think it'd be good for Gillian. I think if she goes home, I think that'll be good for her.
Jake: I need you to listen to me, Ryan.
Ryan: Just tell me. Just tell me my wife's going to be all right. Say it, Jake. Say it. Tell me Gillian's going to make it.
Jake: I'm sorry, Ryan. She won't.
Ryan: No. I know why you're saying this. You took Gillian from me once. Well, never again, Jake! You will not take my wife!
Ryan: You take back what you said about Gillian.
Jake: I wish to God I could.
Ryan: It's -- it's not true, Jake. She can't -- she can't be.
Jake: I'm sorry, Ryan.
Ryan: You're lying! This is so obvious! It's so obvious this is payback because she chose me! She didn't choose you, Jake!
Jake: No. I'm a doctor, Ryan. I would never lie about a patient's condition.
Ryan: She's more than a patient to you, Jake. You loved her. You still love her.
Jake: I wish I could tell you she's going to recover. She won't.
Ryan: You are lying, Jake! You're -- you're saying this to -- this is payback. That's why you're saying this.
Jake: Ryan, this has nothing to do with how I feel about Gillian.
Ryan: It's time for you to face reality, Jake. Gillian is out of your life forever. Do you understand that? She's never going to look at you the way she looks at me. Never going to wrap her arms around you. You'll never hear the words "I love you" from her. She's dead to you, Jake, but she's not dead to me.
Jake: She never recovered from the surgery. She's on life support, and she has machines that are breathing for her, and they're keeping her heart beating. And the Gillian that you knew -- she's not here, Ryan. She's gone.
Ryan: You go to hell.

Brooke: Honey, are you feeling worse?
Laura: No. I just need to talk to Leo alone. Please?
Leo: Sure. Sure. Let's --
Leo: Hey, don't go anywhere. This wedding's going to happen. All right?
Vanessa: Leo, Darling, don't despair. I'm sure it's only wedding jitters.
Bianca: We'll be right outside if you need us, ok?
Leo: Ok.
Leo: You, too, Zora Dora. Amscray.

Leo: Hey, hey, hey, hey. Breathe. Breathe into this. Nice and slow, nice and slow. In and out. One more. Better? Ok. I was getting a little lightheaded myself, Laura, waiting for the JP to ask if there's anybody who had any sort of cause to stop this wedding, but I didn't think the bride would chime in. Look, you know all about my wicked ways. But you agreed to marry me anyway, so I'm wondering if there's anything else that I did to make you stop the wedding.
Laura: It's not you, Leo.
Leo: Then what? I thought you loved me.
Laura: I love you so much it hurts. That's why I had to stop the wedding. That's why I can't marry you.

Bianca: She's probably just nervous like Mrs. Cortlandt said, right?
Brooke: Maybe.
Bianca: You know, Leo is, like, the greatest thing that ever happened to Laura. He loves her almost as much as --
Brooke: As you do?
Bianca: I -- I want Laura to be happy, whatever it takes.
Brooke: I'm going to have a word with Judge Robinson.

Erica: Oh, Bianca, thank God! Thank God you're all right!
Bianca: Mom, of course I'm all right. Why wouldn't I be?
Erica: Oh, Honey. You haven't heard about the shooting at Wildwind?
Bianca: Shooting? No. Have you -- have you spoken to Dimitri?
Erica: No, no. I just heard that a young woman was brought in here by an ambulance with a gunshot wound. I -- I thought it might be you.
Bianca: Oh, my God. Why did you think it would be me?
Erica: Well, because of the description -- I mean, long, dark hair, and I know that you ride at Wildwind.
Bianca: Dimitri asked me not to go riding there anymore, not till he said it was ok. Oh, my God. I wonder if this -- this is why. Well, who was hurt? Is Alex ok?
Erica: I don't know, I don't know. I was just so relieved when it wasn't you. Oh, I started shaking when I heard.
Bianca: Oh, Mom. It's ok. Just take it easy.
Erica: When I look at Brooke and I think that she's facing the real possibility of -- of losing another daughter, I just don't know if I could ever survive if anything happened to you.
Bianca: You're not going to lose me, Mom.
Erica: Who is that with Brooke anyway?
Bianca: A justice of the peace. Judge Robinson. Laura's getting married. I mean, at least that was the plan.

Vanessa: Well, I do hope Laura and Leo work things out.
David: Yeah. A fat trust fund's a terrible thing to waste.
Vanessa: I wasn't thinking of Laura's money.
David: Money is all you ever think about, Vanessa. I bet you wish it was Palmer in there dying of heart failure.
Vanessa: Don't be so ghoulish.
David: Oh, that's right, I'm sorry. What was I thinking? He hasn't written you into his will yet. Well, you can't have the old coot die off without your financial future being secured, right?
Vanessa: Honestly, David, I don't know why I put up with you.

David: Sure you do, Vanessa. We're all we have.

Leo: Ok, I'm not getting this. You love me but you don't want to marry me?
Laura: No, it's not fair to you, Leo.
Leo: What's not fair?
Laura: I can't be a real wife. I can't give you those things a wife gives a husband.
Leo: Laura, you give me love. What -- what else is there?
Laura: Children. A house, future -- everything.
Leo: We have each other.
Laura: For how long?
Leo: For as long as it lasts. Listen, Laura, the reason I asked you to marry me is because I want to be with you. I want to give back to you everything that you've given to me, as much as I'm able to. You -- listen, you love so completely, so openly. I want to love like that, too. And I don't give a damn if it lasts five years or five minutes. It's enough for me. It's more than I expected, and believe me, it's far more than I deserve. So, please, Laura, honor me. Be my wife.
Laura: I guess the wedding's back on.

Leo: Folks, Judge Robinson, the wedding's back on. We better hurry before the bride changes her mind again. All right.

Bianca: Mom, do you want to join us?
Erica: Oh. No. No, no, Sweetheart. You go ahead. You go. I'm going to wait out here.

Laura: Sorry for the delay.
Brooke: Oh, no problem, Honey.
Laura: This wedding happened so fast, I didn't have time to write anything. But I'd like to say something to Leo.
Laura: When I was a kid, I thought that happiness only belonged to people in the sitcoms, that it wasn't real. I had to grow into it. And I made a lot of mistakes on my way here. But look. I made it, thanks to you. And whatever else happens, I have this moment. Thank you. I love you, Leo, more than words could say.
Leo: My turn? My turn. Uh -- most people see what they want to see, what you let them see. I got pretty good at disguise. I was adept at hiding behind my various reps. But from day one, Laura, you saw straight through me, right to my heart, right straight through to my soul. You saw the good in me. And I want to live up to that, Laura. You give me hope, and I love you for that. And I love you for your courage and for your beauty and for everything that you are and everything that you want to be.
Judge: When we love, we can look at each other's life and say, "I touched his life" or "I touched her life. I was a part of this life, and it is a part of me and I'm forever changed by it." May all your changes be for the best. Let's start again.

[Guitarist plays]

Judge: Leo, do you take Laura to be your wife? Do you promise to love, honor, cherish, and protect her, forsaking all others, in good times and bad, in sickness and in health, as long as you both shall live?
Leo: Yeah, I do.
Judge: Laura, do you take Leo to be your husband? Do you promise to love, honor, cherish, and protect him in good times and bad, in sickness and in health, forsaking all others, as long as you both shall live?
Laura: I do.
Leo: Whew.
Judge: The rings.
David: Oh.
Leo: Oh, David?
David: Yes, yes, of course. The rings. Here.
Leo: All right.
Judge: Wedding rings are the sign of an unbroken circle of love signifying to all the union of this man and this woman in marriage. Leo?
Leo: Oh. Uh, here, this one's for you. I -- I, Leo, take thee, Laura, to be my wife. And with this ring, I pledge my love and my fidelity.
Judge: Laura?
Laura: I, Laura, take thee, Leo, to be my husband. And with this ring, I pledge my love and my fidelity.
Judge: Laura and Leo, insomuch as the two of you have agreed to live together in matrimony, have promised your love for each other by these vows, the giving of these rings, and joining hands, I now declare you to be husband and wife. Congratulations. You may kiss your bride.

[Applause]

David: Congratulations, Leo.
Vanessa: Congratulations, Darling.
Bianca: You ok, Leo?
Leo: Of course.

Dimitri: All right, so -- so what do you do now, Joe?
Alex: That's up to Ryan, isn't it?
Joe: As I understand it, Gillian did not leave a living will. But she did sign a donor card giving permission to use her organs for transplant.
Dimitri: Ok, so -- so, what, are you going to go ahead with that?
Joe: We can't go ahead with anything until Ryan gives his consent.

Ryan: Joe? I want you to run more tests on my wife.
Joe: Ryan, we've already run all the tests --
Ryan: Just run the damn tests!
Dimitri: Ryan, you can't get Gillian back. She's gone.
Ryan: It's not true. It's not true because I would feel it here. I'm going to prove it to you.

Ryan: Gilly? Princess, it's me. I want you to open your eyes. Please, baby, prove everyone wrong. Please, baby. Please come -- come back to me. Wake up. Wake up, baby. WAKE UP!

Erica: If you're thinking of ruining Leo and Laura's wedding, you're too late.
Greenlee: Leo and Laura are married?
Erica: As if you didn't know.
Greenlee: I wish them well.
Erica: Do you? Really?
Greenlee: Absolutely. My life is so perfect. I want everyone to be as happy as I am. Anyway, I was looking for Jake Martin. Have you seen him?
Erica: No.

[Wedding party laughs]

Greenlee: I'll -- I'll go look for him, then.

[Greenlee stops and watches the happy group in Laura's hospital room]

David: All right, here you go.
Guitarist: Thank you.
David: I would like to propose a toast to the bride and groom. Leo, Laura, here's to life worth living and fighting for.
Bianca: Hear, hear.
Zora: Aw.
Leo: "Aw."
Brooke: Very nice. Oh, Leo, I -- I want to welcome you to the family. And I want you to promise me you're going to take very good care of my little girl.
Leo: You have my word. Laura will be safe with me always.
Brooke: Ok.
David: It's getting kind of late, everybody. Why don't we let the newlyweds start their Honeymoon.
Leo: All right. Thank you, everyone.
Brooke: That's a good idea.
Leo: Thank you for coming.
Guitarist: Congratulations.
David: Take care, Bro.
Leo: All right. Thank you, David.
Bianca: Congratulations.
Brooke: I'll see you in the morning.
Laura: Ok.
Leo: Bye, Mom.

Erica: It wasn't the wedding you had planned for your daughter, was it?
Brooke: None of it was what I had planned, really. Nothing seemed to work out. You know, don't get me wrong, Erica. I'm -- I'm so grateful that Laura was able to have a wedding day. It's just that I hurt for her when I think about all the things that a -- that a husband and wife have when they start out. The wonderful things -- where to live, you know, what furniture to buy. Laura being carried over the threshold. You know, burning her first dinner, having a fight and making up again, starting a family, holding a baby in her arms, and falling in love with the life that you've been blessed with, scrapbooks that you fill to pass on. And -- I can't stay here. I'm sorry.
Erica: Brooke --
Brooke: I'll be in the chapel, all right, if Laura needs me.

Anna: Oh. Charlotte did this. Ugh.
Edmund: We have the shooter in custody. We could go see her.
Anna: Why? She's not going to live long enough to testify. Charlotte will see to that.
Edmund: Charlotte is not infallible. Ahem. We will find a weakness, and we will take her down together. What?
Anna: You. I know how much Gillian meant to you. But you remain strong for me, for all of us, like nothing can knock you down.
Edmund: I don't want my children to grow up believing the bad guys win. I'm going to bring down Charlotte. I am going to take her out, and I'm not going to stop until I do. I owe that much to Gillian.

Ryan: Do you remember our wedding, Princess? You were such a beautiful bride. It was the happiest day of my life. You always have been and you always will be the best part of me. I thank God for you every single day, and I'm not looking back. I'm going to face the future with you. Ok? So you got to come back to me.

Alex: Oh, I can't bear this.
Dimitri: I should phone Vadzel, let Eugenia know what happened.
Alex: Yeah, all right. I love you.
Dimitri: I love you, too.

Alex: What are we going to do to help Ryan through this? I'm so afraid for him.

Greenlee: Ugh!

[Screams and starts breaking things in Jakes loft]

Greenlee: Damn you, Leo du Pres! Damn you!

Greenlee: Ugh! Hop back on your broomstick, Vanessa. I'm not in the mood.
Vanessa: Uh --
Greenlee: What do you want?
Vanessa: Greenlee, I want the same things you do -- Leo's happiness.
Greenlee: Leo can go to hell for all I care.
Vanessa: Well, you do care. You care deeply. And Leo's love is as strong as ever for you.
Greenlee: Hello? Leo's married. He exchanged vows. He is now Mr. Laura English.
Vanessa: And you know why he married Laura?
Greenlee: Because he loves her?
Vanessa: You know, for a very bright girl, sometimes you're incredibly dim. Think, Greenlee. Just think. He married her in a hospital wearing a very non-conventional IV unit and exchanging wedding vows while gasps for oxygen were taking place. It was an act of compassion, granting a dying girl's wish. You can't fault Leo for trying to make her last days as pleasurable as possible.
Greenlee: You're forgetting something, Vanessa.
Vanessa: What's that, Dear?
Greenlee: I don't give a rat's whisker what Leo does or why he does it.
Vanessa: Fine. You deny it all you want, but I know my son. And Leo feels pity for Laura. And when she dies -- which is sad but inevitable -- well, Leo will stand to inherit a tidy sum, and then he can come courting you as a man of independent means. Now, there's something a girl can pin her dreams on.
Greenlee: Get out of here, Vanessa.
Vanessa: I just want you to consider --
Greenlee: I said get out!
Vanessa: I -- I did strike a nerve, though, didn't I? I'm afraid I'm losing my touch. I'm going.

Leo: Hi, wife.
Laura: Hey, husband.
Leo: So what do you want to do for our honeymoon?
Laura: Oh! Grab my purse. Check it out. It's my collection of sugar packets, stolen from the finest eateries in Pine Valley.
Leo: I didn't realize I was marrying a sugar thief.
Laura: No. Look at the pictures on the back. See? Pike's Peak, Yosemite --
Leo: Niagara Falls?
Laura: No, that's corny. Everybody goes there.
Leo: All right, here we go -- the Grand Canyon.
Laura: Yeah.
Leo: Let's do it.
Laura: Ok.
Leo: All right? Scoot over. All right. Ahem. Ok, here we go. Ok, close your eyes.
Laura: Ok.
Leo: All right. Ok. We're at the north peak, looking right down into the canyon. The colors are incredible. It's like red rock everywhere. The sun is going down. It's like this great big fireball, this -- whoosh -- right down into the -- and then the stars come out. And we lie on our backs and we count them.

Zora: Hey, you guys. I'm sorry, but Mrs. du Pres needs to take her meds.
Leo: Aw. Zora, do you mind? We're sort of in the middle of our honeymoon.
Zora: I know, I know, I know, but Laura's still under my care, and it's my job that she stays on schedule.
Leo: Well, I suppose we can pretend it's room service.
Laura: Yeah. They don't have room service at the Grand Canyon.
Zora: No, we aim to please at the Grand Canyon Hotel.
Laura: Well, I'm a little tired. I wonder if room service wouldn't mind leaving.
Zora: Say no more. Look, enjoy your stay here at the Grand Canyon. If you honeymooners need anything else, I'll be right outside the door, ok?
Leo: All right. Thank you, Zora Dora.

Laura: I love you, Leo. You make magical things happen.
Leo: The magic's only just begun.

Jake: Dad? We need to approach Ryan about testing Gillian as a possible heart donor for Laura.
Alex: Well, there isn't really a right time, is there?
Joe: No. No. But time is crucial. Laura's condition is very grave. She can't survive without a transplant.
Alex: Yes, but Ryan needs time to mourn the woman he loved so much.

Vanessa's voice: It was an act of compassion, granting a dying girl's wish. You can't fault Leo for trying to make her last days as pleasurable as possible.
Vanessa's voice: And Leo feels pity for Laura. And when she dies -- which is sad but inevitable -- well, Leo will stand to inherit a tidy sum, and then he can come courting you as a man of independent means. Now, there's something a girl can pin her dreams on.

Greenlee: Laura's rich. Leo marries Laura. Laura dies, Leo's rich. What's wrong with this picture?

Leo: Do you have enough room? Laura: Yeah, too much. Get closer.
Leo: Better?
Laura: Yeah. Way better than I had dreamed. I have everything I ever wanted right here.
Leo: Hey. I was supposed to say that.

Joe: Ryan, there's something we need to discuss.
Ryan: You can forget your machines and your tests. Gillian's -- she's still with me. She's still alive.

[Brooke prays in the chapel]

Brooke: You know I would trade places with Laura. But I know that's not how you work. So I'm here to ask you -- I'm here to beg you -- to send a miracle and save my daughter. I know maybe I don't deserve one, but I know that Laura does. And if you could just do something -- if you could just send someone to do what the doctors can't do and save my daughter's life --

Brooke: Oh, Erica, I -- I can't deal with you right now.
Erica: You'd better deal with me. I've found a heart for Laura.

ON THE NEXT - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Liza: You think JR's really gone that far?
Hayley: There's really only one way to find out.

Adam: You don't have a thing on J.R.
David: Fingerprints don't lie.

Leo: I feel like she's starting to slip away, and she is, isn't she?

Brooke: I think that my daughter might have a chance! They brought somebody into the ICU.
