Leo: What, are you going to quiz me now, too?
Becca: No, no, I --
Leo: He is such a punk.
Becca: At least you only have one older brother. Mine go in shifts to tease me.
Leo: Becca, you do not understand. Now that David knows that math is my weak point, he won't let up. Despite what David might think, I am not the village idiot, ok? My mother and I moved around quite a bit when I was a kid. I was never settled into one school long enough to even learn basic math.
Becca: So you want to go through your whole life without knowing it? Leo, you are a bright guy. You can learn math.
Leo: Yeah, and maybe if I'm a very good boy, I can learn how to tell time next month, too.
Becca: Don't, Leo. You have an opportunity here.
Leo: What, to learn how the second-graders live?
Becca: Fine. You want to stay ignorant, it's your choice.

Hayley: Hey.
Ryan: Hey, Hayley, how are you doing?
Hayley: Good.
Ryan: Not the usual crowd tonight, huh?
Hayley: No, no. We closed the place. Private engagement party for us.
Ryan: Oh. I'm sorry. I'll get out of here. I didn't --
Hayley: No. Oh, no. Stay. Come on. Sit down.
Ryan: Are you sure?
Hayley: Yeah, yeah.
Ryan: Oh.
Hayley: You don't look so good.
Ryan: Oh.
Well, I just got through lecturing Jake.
Hayley: Not about Gillian.
Ryan: Yeah, yeah. I mean, obviously he thinks that Gillian should have told him that Adam was Colby's father. But the weird thing is -- the weird thing is -- is that he thinks that it was, like, her first choice or something to keep the truth from him, and he just can't get by that.
Hayley: You told him it wasn't like that, right? I mean, you explained to him that she just didn't want him to lose Colby, right?
Ryan: I did, I did, I did. But, believe me, it sounds a lot better coming from you.
Hayley: Why? What did you say?
Ryan: Well, I mean, there I was -- I mean, I was telling him to hold on to her, to love her, to forgive her, and most of all not to walk away from her. Hayley, that's exactly what I did.

Gillian: Don't you love me, Jake?
Jake: Yes, I do. I do. But I don't think I've been very fair to you. Would I have married you if it wasn't for Colby and trying to have a family for her and a mother? I -- I don't know the answer to that, Gillian. I just don't.
Gillian: Jake -- I know your whole world is falling apart, but we have each other, and we can take it from there.
Jake: No, I -- I've been too trusting. I've been blind and seeing thin through Colby's eyes, and I should have -- I should have known better.
Gillian: Jake, that's not true.
Jake: Everybody knew -- everybody knew that she wasn't my daughter. Everyone -- except me.
Gillian: No, it wasn't like that.
Jake: Yes, it was. Adam knew, Liza. Erica Kane, Ryan Lavery, David Hayward. Did Eugenia know? Did your grandmother know? Tell me.
Gillian: Yeah, but I only told her because --
Jake: Because -- the people that I love, the people that I trust -- the two people, my brother and my wife -- they knew.
Gillian: Jake, you know why we couldn't tell you. Jake: Why? Because you didn't want to hurt me? What? Gillian. You were going to let me build a life around Colby, plan a future with her, when it just -- it wouldn't have worked.
Gillian: Jake, I wanted Colby to be in your life. She deserved to have you as her daddy.
Jake: Your problem -- this isn't your fault. This is -- this is not because of you.
Gillian: No --
Jake: But I need time to figure out where I stand with things, starting with us.
Gillian: Are you leaving me, Jake?

Dixie: Hi. Tad: Any word from Jake?
Joe: Oh, I think we'll hear from him once he's had time to sort things out.
Dixie: Ruth, what are you doing?
Ruth: Oh, I'm -- I'm gathering up Colby's things to send back to Liza.
Dixie: So soon?
Joe: Well, Dix, we thought the sooner, the better. Having all of them around is just going to -- we need to make it as easy as we can on Jake.
Tad: This stinks. If having children were based on the merit system, Jake would have 10 children.
Sweetheart?
Dixie: This is just -- this is terrible. I mean, when we lost the baby, Colby just became so -- I don't know -- she was a great comfort to me. I grew so attached to her. How are we just going to let her walk out of our lives?
Tad: She's not walking out of our lives. Adam Chandler is stealing her away.

Adam: Oh. How's Colby?
Liza: Sleeping.
Adam: Well, that gives us a moment together. There's something I would like to give her beautiful mother. Sort of a token of things to come. Your heart, my heart, Colby's heart, entwined together forever.
Liza: It's very asymmetrical.
Adam: Is that all you have to say?
Liza: No. I have a present for you, too.
Adam: Really?
Liza: It's to express my hopes for the future. Go ahead. Open it.
Adam: Divorce papers.
Liza: You don't have to act so surprised. They're already the ones I gave you.
Adam: Liza, everything's changed. Everything. Our family was restored in that courtroom. I know I went a little crazy, but when you said you were going to end our marriage --
Liza: You know, Adam, you might want to check with Barry, but I'm not sure that you can plead insanity in divorce court.
Adam: Liza, you and Colby are the only things that matter to me in this world. When I lost you, I realized I would move galaxies to get you back --
Liza: Please don't.
Adam: To bring our family back together.
Liza I don't want you lecturing me on family values, Adam.
Adam: Damn it! I did all of this because I love you.
Liza: Love me? Love me? I don't want to hear that word coming from you ever again. I don't want any more lies, any more scheming, any more delays. You are going to sign that divorce petition, and you are going to get out of my house.

Joe: Liza's got a good heart, Dix. I'm sure she'll let you see Colby as often as you like.
Dixie: Well, you know, it's not really Liza that I'm so worried about. It's Adam. I mean, do you really think that he's going to let us visit Colby?
Tad: Adam's not going to have any say in Colby's future. I'll make sure of that.
Ruth: How?
Tad: What do you mean, how? Are you kidding? The man faces a raft of criminal charges for what he's done to Liza and Jake. All I got to do is make sure that she follows through.
Dixie: Honey, and then what? I mean, I'm a little worried about how this is going to start to affect the kids.
Joe: It's not a good time to be going after Adam.
Tad: Wait a minute. Wait a minute. It's the perfect time. If we let him walk, it's condoning what he did, ignoring what he has done to us. And everyone in this room knows the only thing that Adam respects is cold retribution.
Joe: Well, Tad, I mean, what is this about? Getting Adam's respect?
Tad: No. It's about payback. You want to know why he kept that secret so long? Because he knew someday we'd be doing this. He knew that we would fall in love with that baby. He did it because Jake is a martin, and he wanted to make sure that he hurt and humiliated this family in the worst possible way.
Joe: I know, I know. But I'm not interested in Adam chandler's motivation. I care about you. You know, if you start mud wrestling with this guy, it's going to be hard to tell the difference between you fellows.
Tad: I'm sorry, Pop, but this is something I got to do. Dix?
Dixie: Well, you have to do whatever you think is right.
Joe: Tad --
Ruth: No. No, Joe. No, no, no, no, no. Let him go, sweetheart. Just let him go. You know, he's -- he's suffering for Jake. He's got to do something that he hopes will make things better. Anyway, it's not Tad I'm worried about right now. It's Jake -- Jake and Gillian.

Jake: Am I giving up on you or our marriage? No, I'm not.
Gillian: Then -- then why -- then why can't we do this together, Jake? Please, Jake, don't leave me. We can -- we can -- we can work this out.
Jake: When I found out Colby wasn't my child, my whole life changed. My -- my -- I don't know where I stand on anything. I can't be a husband to you until I know.
Gillian: I know. I understand that. But you can lean on me for now.
Jake: What I need -- what we both need is some time and some space to figure things out, figure out our marriage and what we both want.
Gillian: What's going to happen to me, Jake?
Jake: You'll be fine, Gillian. You' grown so much in the time that I've known you. You're a remarkable woman. You're strong, you're tender, and you're loving.
Gillian: Jake, I need you. How am I going to -- how am I going to do this alone?
Jake: You have your grandmother. You have Alex and Edmund. You have my family. They love you very much.
Gillian: Do you have to do this alone?
Jake: Yes, I do.
Jake: Concentrate on yourself. Take care of yourself. And don't worry about me. Just don't worry about me. You stay strong, ok?

Ryan: Oh. You know what? Enough -- enough about my problems, all right? I want to tell you about something that I'm actually excited about.
Hayley: Hmm.
Ryan: A whole new career change for me, Hayley. You know how the country's going through this financial revolution right now with the dot-coms and the internet? Everything dot-com. Everything, right?
Hayley: Yeah, yeah.
Ryan: It's all internet these days. So I think somebody with a little ambition and the right idea could start up an internet company inside a month. The profits are unbelievable!
Hayley: I don't know, Ryan. My father's one of the wealthiest men in this country, and he's miserable. I don't think that money is your answer.
Ryan: I know, I know, but it's got to take the sting out of being lonely just a little bit. I mean, if I'm going to be lonely, I might as well do it on my own tropical island somewhere.
Hayley: Well, if that's where you choose to focus your energy, look out, cyberspace.
Ryan: Yeah. Hey, Matt.
Mateo: How are you?
Ryan: Congratulations, man. I didn't know this was a private party. You know, I wouldn't have crashed.
Mateo: Stay.
Ryan: Thanks.

Leo: Well, it seems my legendary charms have failed me tonight.
Greenlee: Oh, please, Leo, don't do this to me. You and I are the only ones keeping irony alive in this town, ok? And now you are losing sight of your mission.
Leo: You're right. I almost had a genuine moment there. That won't happen again.
Greenlee: Get busy. You said you were going to seduce that saint. I want to see Becca become another notch on your belt.

Hayley: You know, all this plus a pre-honeymoon trip to Jamaica, and I still can't help wondering what will go wrong.
Mateo: You know, I was worried about leaving Janet with Arlene before, but, you know, now that Adrian's on the job --
Hayley: What does Adrian have to do with my mother?
Mateo: He's keeping an eye on her.
Hayley: Oh, no. That poor man. He has no idea what he's gotten himself into.

Arlene: Hello? Oh, Cupid must be smiling on me. I have the most handsome man in Pine Valley driving me home, and no one is here.

Dixie: It's Jake. Hey.
Ruth: Jake.
Dixie: Hi.

Jake: No, that's all right. I can't -- I can't stay long.
Joe: Where's Gillian?

Jake: Yeah, she's fine. I just came from seeing her. What are you doing with Colby's clothes?
Joe: I hope you don't mind, Jake. We thought it best if we sent them over to Liza's.
Jake: Oh. Ok. Where's Tad?
Dixie: He's with Liza. But he's going to be back really soon. I know he wants to talk to you.
Joe: So, what is it?
Jake: Well, I wish Tad was here. I have something to tell you.

Adam: Liza, please listen to me. Listen to -- I know you're terribly upset. I know that. Of course you are. I understand. But now is the worst time to commit to something as permanent as a divorce.
Liza: Adam, sign the papers so I can be rid of you forever.

[Doorbell rings]

Adam: I --
Liza: Just sign them.
Adam: We'll both regret it. You know what they say -- "divorce in haste, repent in leisure."
Tad: You're home.
Adam: Not now, Martin. My wife and I are having a private conversation.
Tad: Not anymore. Get over it. It's all set. Are you ready? I just checked with the D.A.'S office. They've drawn up the warrants. All you got to do is press charges, ok? That's it. One phone call, Liza. They'll be here in 10 minutes to pick him up.
Adam: Of all the monumental gall. Will you get out of my house! This is --
Liza: Adam, shut up. This is my house.
I want you to reassure me that this thing is going to stick.
Tad: Absolutely, ok? I got off the phone with them myself. What he did at that clinic could put him away for the next 14 years. Now, all it's going to take is one phone call. Now, will you make it?
Liza: Is this what you and your family want?
Tad: You know exactly where we stand.
Liza: Yeah, I'll press charges against Adam.
Adam: No.
Tad: Yes.
Adam: No, Liza.
Tad: Yes!

[Tad dials telephone]

Tad: Yeah, Derek. It's me, Tad. There's somebody who wants to talk to you. Liza?
Liza: Derek? Yeah, we're here. We're here at home. You can -- you can come and get Adam. Great.
Adam: Liza, think what you're doing. Think about the trial, the tabloid press. They'll brand Colby as "The Sperm-Switch Heiress." Think of the shame she'll have to live through.
Tad: The only shame Colby will have to live through is having him as a father.
Adam: You've had your moment of fun, Martin. Now get out of here.
Tad: My moment of fun comes when they clap you in cuffs and they throw your butt in the back of the squad car, and you can bet your last dollar I'm going to be here for it.
Adam: You miserable slug.

[Telephone rings]

Adam: Yes.

Tad: Hello.
Dixie: Hey, baby, it's me. Listen, I'm still at your folks' house. Can you come home now?
Tad: No, I can't. Liza's going to press charges. They're going to arrest Adam.
Dixie: Jake is here. Would you come home now?
Tad: All right, I'll be right there.
Well, Adam, looks like you got your wish. But I'm going to be in the front row at your sentencing.
You did good. Real good. I'm proud of you Liza.

Adam: Liza --
Liza: Don't. Don't. You are not going to beg or reassure or lie your way out of this. They're going to come, and they're going to get you, Adam, and you are going to pay for what you did.
Adam: All right, I won't fight you. But if I'm going to jail, would you least allow me to say good-bye to my daughter?

Myrtle: Darling, everything is going to be all right.
Gillian: How, Myrtle? I was a newlywed with a baby and a house and a family. Now it's gone --
Myrtle: No.
Gillian: Just vanished.
Myrtle: No, no. You haven't lost Jake. He just needs time to figure out what happens from here.
Gillian: And what if that doesn't include me?
Myrtle: Jake loves you, darling. You've got to trust that.
Gillian: Uh-uh. I can't -- I don't want to get my hopes up.
Myrtle: You must. You must. Now, look. Look what happened to me. A month ago, who could have imagined that I would be reunited with my daughter and my whole life would be completely changed.
Gillian: You have a daughter?
Myrtle: Yes. A beautiful daughter. And I hadn't seen her since she was a baby.
Gillian: How did that happen?
Myrtle: Well, I'll tell you the story. And when I'm through, you'll understand why we must never, never give up hope in the future.

Adrian: So, Arlene, I -- I hear that you're only in town for a short visit.
Arlene: Oh, you mean all that stuff about me leaving town soon? Well, forget it. It's all bogus. Between you and me, I'm living here permanently, so why don't we just get to know each other, huh?
Adrian: Ok, but we don't -- we don't have to rush it.
Arlene: Oh, God. What kind of guy are you, anyway?
Adrian: I'm actually kind of romantic. Just relax.
Arlene: Oh, yeah?
Adrian: Maybe we should court.
Arlene: Oh, consider me courted.
Adrian: All right, look. Got to get back to the club. Maybe we could -- we could do this tomorrow.

Tina: One ginger ale and one virgin colada.
Becca: Thank you so much.
Scott: So, where's Adrian tonight?
Tina: Oh, you missed the floor show earlier. He left here sucking face with Hayley's mom.
Becca: What?
Tina: That woman is easier than a game of ticktacktoe, and he is probably going to walk back here in a few minutes grinning like a fool.

Janet: If Trevor were here, he'd be so happy. Now the two of you are back together, engaged, making plans for the future.
Mateo: Yeah, he was always pulling for us, huh?
Hayley: If Trevor were here, Arlene certainly wouldn't be bunking at your house.
Janet: You guys have a great trip to Jamaica. And if Hayley here starts spouting off about Arlene, toss a little sand at her. Have fun, you guys.
Hayley: Thanks.
Mateo: All right, thank you.
Janet: Bye.
Hayley: Bye.

[Leo whistles]

Leo: What's up with you?
Greenlee: Hmm?
Leo: Well, you just got me all cranked up about Becca, and here you are virtually ignoring Ryan. That's n at all like you, Greenlee.
Greenlee: I can afford to chill. In a few hours, I'll be lying in Ryan's bed.
Leo: Ah. Will he be there?
Greenlee: Funny. Why don't you run along after your elusive little butterfly. Ryan's already in the net.

Scott: Marian, stay calm. I'll be right there, ok? All right.
Becca: Is your dad ok?
Scott: He's not home. Look, I've got to go. Marian's frightened, so --
Becca: Look, don't worry about me, ok? I'll get a ride home with Tina.
Scott: You sure?
Becca: Positive. Hope everything goes ok.

Becca: Well, did you think of any more snide comments to make?
Leo: No, I came to apologize. All that sarcastic stuff is just because I was embarrassed about the whole math thing. But you're right. I should do something about this. And I know I don't deserve it, but could you help me, Becca?

Greenlee: Oh.

Greenlee: Are you just getting here?

Tad: What do you mean, you're leaving?
Jake: It's just the only option that makes sense to me right now. I just need to step back and put everything in the rearview mirror for a while.
Ruth: What about Gillian?
Jake: She doesn't know yet. I -- I made up my mind after I talked to her.
Joe: Where will you go?
Jake: I'm going to California. I've got some friends out there. My friends Dan and Mike, they have a place -- a house out there. I went to school with them, and they're going to let me crash there for a while.
Dixie: California? That's so far.
Ruth: Will you at least leave us a telephone number?
Jake: Yeah, Mom, I got it -- that's the place.
Ruth: Oh, Jake.
Joe: This might give him a chance to regroup.
Jake: About the hospital, Dad --
Joe: Your position will be waiting for you when you return.
Tad: When will that be?
Jake: I don't know.
Ruth: Oh, Jake. Jake. I thought that you were going to be living right down the street.
Dixie: We're going to miss you so much.
Jake: Dad, guys, I'm not joining the French Foreign Legion. I'm just going to take a little bit of a breather. Let's lighten up.
Dixie: You need a ride to the airport?
Jake: No, actually I'm going to drive. Want to see the country. And maybe I'll stop and see Kelsey.

Officer: Let's go, Mr. Chandler. The squad car is waiting.
Adam: Gentlemen, could I please just have one moment alone with my wife?
Officer: Yeah, all right. We'll wait in the foyer.

Adam: Barry, I'm being arrested as we speak. Time to put the contingency plan into effect. Right away.

Liza: I saw the patrol cars from the nursery. Where are the cuffs? Where are the officers?
Adam: They're right there in the foyer. Liza, I just have one minute, and there's something I want to tell you. I forgive your mother for what she did to me -- keeping me prisoner and giving away my money. And I'm willing to face the charges that you let Tad bring against me. I'll go quietly. But there's one thing that I can't face. Liza, would you please, please reconsider the divorce?

Myrtle: Hello?
Rae: Hi, Myrtle.
Myrtle: Oh, Rae. Rae, darling. Oh, I'm glad it's you. Listen, did you find her? What's her name? What does she look like? Is she beautiful? I mean, is she like you or me or --
Rae: You know what? It's so nice talking to you, mother.
Myrtle: I'm sorry, but, you know, you've been on my mind ever since you left for New Orleans. And every time this phone rings, I just feel sure that it's you to tell me that you've found your daughter, my granddaughter.
Rae: I know just how you're feeling, and I just don't want you to get so excited, that's all.
Myrtle: I'm sorry, darling. You know, I can't help it. Anyway, tell me, did you find the desk?
Rae: Well, not yet. You know what happened? The antique dealer closed his shop. Can you believe that? Apparently, he auctioned off all of his pieces before he left for Mexico.
Myrtle: Well, who bought it? Who bought the desk?
Rae: I don't know that. But I do have another lead that I'm pursuing.
Myrtle: Oh. Oh, well, you keep at it, darling, and don't get discouraged.
Rae: No, no, don't worry. I'm not. I'm not going to give up. I'm going to find her.

Janet: Do you have any idea how much you embarrassed Hayley tonight? Everybody could tell you'd been drinking.
Arlene: It was pretty obvious, huh?
Janet: If you're going to stay here, you have to behave yourself. Cut back on the drinking, no more public spectacles, and double up on the AA. Meetings.
Arlene: It won't happen again, Janet. I swear.
Janet: I hope not. Good night.

Adrian: Man, Arlene jumped me.
Mateo: That's pathetic, man. I thought you could handle yourself.
Adrian: I can, man. You know what? You won't be laughing for too much longer because she's -- she's not here to temp. She told me she has plans of staying in Pine Valley indefinitely.
Mateo: That's bad. And I won't be telling Hayley that till after we take off for Jamaica. Listen, you got to do me a favor. You got to keep an eye on her, all right, when we're gone. Please, please just keep an eye on her.
Adrian: Yeah, right. Looks like I got another full-time job.

[Mateo laughs]

Hayley: Hey.
Mateo: Hey. Want to get out of here?
Hayley: Don't you have to close?
Mateo: Well, Adrian's going to take care of it. Maybe -- maybe you can give me a little Jamaican preview?
Hayley: Oh, yeah?

Adrian: Hey, hey, hey. Whoa, waitress. Slow down. I haven't had a chance to talk to you all night.
Tina: Get used to it.
Adrian: For crying out loud.

Leo: No more putting it off. What do you say, Becca? Will you tutor me?
Becca: You really want to learn?
Leo: I swear I do. Please. I'm being very sincere here. Please?
Becca: When do you want to start?
Leo: Right now.
Becca: Really?
Leo: Yeah. The student has arrived, and the teacher is ready, isn't she?

Ryan: Ok, that's about my last dance, I think. I want to go home and brainstorm about this new idea.
Greenlee: Ok.

Greenlee: Oh, I think you have one more dance left in you tonight.

Gillian: What am I going to do?

Liza: Nothing is going to stop me from divorcing you, Adam, from getting you to pay for torching Jake's life, mine, and Colby's. In fact, I'm going to testify against you, encouraging the judge to prosecute you to the fullest extent of t law.
Adam: Liza, I love you.
Liza: Officers! Please come and take this man. And cuff him. He's dangerous.
Adam: Liza, how could you? How could you? I -- this isn't what you want. Liza, how could you do this

Dixie: I can't believe he left.
Ruth: My poor baby. I mean, he thought he had his whole life figured out, you know?
Joe: Maybe the wisest course for him.
Tad: Thanks to Adam, we're all crawling around in the rubble.

[Knock on door]

Ruth: Is it Jake?
Derek: Dr. Joe.
Joe: Lt. Frye.
Derek: Ruth.
Tad: You get him, Derek?
Derek: Yeah. A couple of officers are driving him down to headquarters right now.
Tad: Great. Good. Thanks for the progress report.
Derek: Tad, that's not why I'm here. I came here to arrest you.
Tad: What?
