ALL MY CHILDREN

MAY 28, 1999

Erica: This is very unexpected. I really am very uncomfortable with people just dropping by on a whim. I thought I made that very clear.
Trevor: Yeah. You also made it clear you don't want your friends holding out on you, and this one is a doozy.
Erica: I see. All right, then, if you insist, come in. What is this about?
Janet: Well, can we speak privately? I'd rather not discuss this in front of Vanessa.
Erica: Well, if it concerns Vanessa, then I think that it's a good idea that she stay.
Trevor: I'd rethink that.
Vanessa: If you need me, Erica --
Trevor: No, this is for your ears only, there, Erica.
Janet: Although yours will be burning.
Vanessa: Oh, dear. I think I know what this is all about.
Erica: Oh, really? Then why don't you enlighten us.
Vanessa: Your friends here would like you to hear an audiotape that they made on the sly that they think proves positively that I'm exploiting you in the worst possible way.
Erica: A tape?
Vanessa: Janet and Myrtle gave me 48 hours to leave Pine Valley, otherwise they would play the tape for you.
Trevor: And guess what?
[Imitates buzzer] time's up.
Erica: Is this right? Is this true? I mean, are you really considering blackmail?
Janet: Exactly. My only regret is it didn't work.

Mateo: How did Max seem to you?
Dr. Erle: Well, I only had a few minutes alone with him, but you were right to be concerned. Max is extremely unsettled.
Raquel: But Max has always been such a good boy, so careful. He knows not to play with matches.
Dr. Erle: He burned your divorce papers because he's desperately trying to stop you and Mateo from ending your marriage.
Mateo: Marriage? Dr. Erle, we've been apart for years. It's not like we're breaking up a home.
Dr. Erle: Well, I'm afraid that makes it even harder in this case. Divorce is traumatic enough for all children, but Max is losing the family that he never had. The perfect family -- the one that doesn't fight or have problems.
Raquel: His dream.
Dr. Erle: Yes. When he found his father, he believed that everything else he hoped for was going to happen, too.
Raquel: He came so close.
Mateo: I guess he feels like I let him down, right?
Dr. Erle: Mateo, you could never live up to Max's expectations. No one could. He has his fantasy family, and now he's terrified of losing you. That's why he's acting out.
Mateo: But I -- I've tried to make him understand that I'm not going anywhere. I mean, look, we live right across the hall. We moved into these condos so he could be close to his mother and me.
Dr. Erle: I understand, but obviously Max doesn't. Whenever a normally healthy child starts this kind of destructive behavior, I like to look at the family, what's changed. His mother's bedridden, his parents are divorcing, and his father is remarrying. And you've moved.
Mateo: It's a lot.
Dr. Erle: It's a lot for each one of you, and you're adults. You have life experience and friends who can help you work through your feelings. What does Max have?
Raquel: He has us.
Dr. Erle: Yes, but you can't move, and you can't change what's happening between his father and Hayley. Just imagine how helpless your little boy feels.
Hayley: Max is afraid that I'm taking Mateo away from them, isn't he?
Dr. Erle: Well, that's his fear, yes. It's common for a child to feel as abandoned as the spouse who's being left, especially when the desire for divorce isn't mutual.
Raquel: But I've tried so hard to be positive about all this.
Dr. Erle: In spite of how you really feel about it. Look, if I'm going to help Max, each one of you has to be a part of this process.
Raquel: I'm willing to do whatever it takes for my son.
Mateo: Me, too.
Hayley: Yeah, anything.
Dr. Erle: Good, because your actions will carry a lot more weight than anything you say. If Max sees you every morning, if you're there when he comes home from school, if nothing else changes -- and I mean nothing -- not the time he goes to bed or the time he gets up -- then you'll be able to rebuild his trust.
Mateo: That's what we want.
Dr. Erle: If it isn't, Max will know that, too. Count on it.

Adam: This should cover any expenses you incur.
Man: Thanks. Mr. Shire said you'd give me the rundown on the subject.
Adam: Yes. Dr. Jake martin. He's head of the ER. Team at Pine Valley Hospital. I'm assuming you don't know him or anyone in his family.
Man: No I've never heard of him, Mr. Chandler. But then, I work out of Philly.
Adam: Good. Anonymity is essential here.
Man: I blend. So, what are you looking for from this Doc Martin?
Adam: All right, I'm sure he has some information on a Dr. David Hayward. He's a cardiologist. He's also on the team at Pine Valley Hospital. I need to know that information. It would be very useful to me.
Man: Well, what kind of info? Personal dirt, professional problems, malpractice?
Adam: You find out, damn it. That's why I'm hiring you.
Man: And the more I know, the quicker you get your results.
Adam: Ok. Well, all I do know is that a short time ago, David Hayward delivered Jake Martin's baby. But instead of being grateful, Martin has nothing but anger against him.
Man: Interesting.
Adam: Yeah. There's something going on there. I need to know what it is. How soon do you think you can come back with something?
Man: Is tonight soon enough?
Adam: Yeah. Oh, one other thing -- keep a very low profile, particularly around Jake Martin.
Man: Will do.

Liza: Who was he?
And what is he up to with Jake?

Nurse: Here's Mr. Coulter's history. He's waiting for you in cubicle three, complaining of abdominal cramps and fever.
Jake: Thanks, Rachel.
Rachel: Have you seen Dr. Hayward? There's a patient here who's waiting to get in touch with him.
Jake: No. I haven't seen or heard from him, actually, in a few days.
Rachel: He doesn't answer his page or his beeper. I'll add the message to the stack.
Jake: Ok.
Oh, Rachel, did personnel get a hold of you?
Rachel: No, everyone's away because of Memorial Day weekend.
Jake: So we're stuck with a skeleton crew, still?
Rachel: Well, they're sending us a volunteer to help with paperwork, but that's the best that they can do.
Jake: Fine. Look, that's fine. I'll take it. I need all the help I can get.

[Intercom buzzes]

Rachel: Yes, keep her foot elevated and bring her in, ok? You're welcome. Bye-bye.
Gillian: Hi. I'm Gillian Lavery. Personnel sent me down to help out.
Rachel: Oh, Gillian, thank you. Yes, come around. Can you handle preliminary interviews?
Gillian: I guess. I've never done it before.
Rachel: Ok, it's easy. We do everything on the computer. You just call up the new patient file, and then you enter in the patient's name and address and date of birth, insurance information, medical history, allergies --
Gillian: Ok, but that's a lot. I don't know if I'm --
Rachel: It's easy. Just go down the list. And here are the codes in case you can't remember. Ok? And answer the phone. Thank you.
Gillian: Ok, you can do this, Gillian. You can do this. You can do this.
Man: Can you take my name? I'm here to see a doctor.
Gillian: What did you do?
Man: Well, I was polishing it, and now I can't get my thumb out.
Gillian: Oh, you poor thing. Yeah, I'll take your information.
Man: Well, here's my insurance card. It's all there.
Gillian: Oh, you're so organized. This will help, yeah. Hmm. Ok. Oh, no. The computer crashed.
Ryan: Gillian?
Gillian: Ryan. Hey, what are you doing here? What happened to your hand?
Ryan: Oh, I put out a fire, and --
Gillian: , You poor thing. Come on, you have to get that checked out right away.
Man: Hey -- hey, what about me?
Gillian: You have a bowling ball. My Ryan has a noble wound.
Man: Yeah, but I was here first.
Gillian: I'm sorry, but with me, Ryan always comes first, no matter what.
Man: Well -- what about me?

Erica: Blackmail? Secret tapes and ultimatums? My goodness, next you're going to tell me that you've taken hostages.
Trevor: This is serious, Erica.
Janet: You need to know what Vanessa has set into motion.
Vanessa: Oh, really, this is awful. One day can't go by without something erupting -- a crisis erupting for Erica. Really.
Trevor: Oh, save it with the boo-hoos. You're the crisis here.
Vanessa: Erica, I'm sure your friends think they're just looking out for you, but I would like the chance to explain myself.
Janet: You'll get it -- after we play the tape.
Vanessa: Why do you -- why are you so determined to look for the absolute worst in me? Is it simply because I could comfort Erica when she needed a friend and you let her down?
Janet: Are you suggesting I'm jealous?
Vanessa: Well, I'm only guessing, dear. But I think I did strike a nerve when I suggested the audit of Enchantment's books.
Janet: The books are perfectly fine. I'm not the one trying to get away with something.
Trevor: Don't go for the bait, babe. She's working you.
Erica: There's no need for any talk. Just play the tape.
Janet: Have you got the tape? I think the tape speaks for itself. I called Jerry Reeves, pretending to be Vanessa's assistant. This is what Jerry had to say.

Jerry's voice: Well, Vanessa's got the inside track. Don't think I'm not grateful. Her tip led me and my crew to the club last night. Erica Kane in that mask doing her "Phantom of the Opera" thing -- man, I get chills just thinking about it.
Janet's voice: Me, too. Vanessa wanted me to ask you if you'd be interested in another opportunity to interview Erica Kane exclusively.

Janet: Listen to this.
Trevor: Yeah.

Jerry's voice: Just name the time and place.
Janet's voice: Well, actually, Ms. Bennett and Ms. Kane are meeting together to discuss her availability as we speak. So why don't you give me your pager number, and we'll contact you as soon as Erica finds out when she'll be available.
Jerry's voice: Well, Vanessa's got all my numbers. That's how she got a hold of me last night. Look, if Erica Kane is there, so am I.

Janet: Do you need to hear any more than that, Erica?
Erica: You contacted Jerry Reeves? You're the reason he came after me at the club?
Vanessa: Well, I won't lie to you, Erica. Yes, I called Jerry Reeves.

Adam: Is Colby awake yet?
Liza: No, she's still sleeping, which gives you plenty of time to explain to me why you've hired a private investigator.
Adam: How did you know that was a private investigator?
V Liza: Oh, the cheesy suit, the bent-up sedan sitting in the driveway, and you're stalling. Why did you hire him?
Adam: It's really very simple.
Liza: Hmm. I doubt that.
Adam: I need Jake's medical history. We should have it on file in case something happens to Colby.
Liza: Well, you don't need a private investigator for that. You could just ask Jake.
Adam: Well, I -- I hate bothering him.
Liza: No, that's not it. You're regressing. You know, you're lying to me about something that's obvious. You think that he has something incriminating on David Hayward, and you want it. That's why you hired a snoop.
Adam: All right, it's a pretty good bet.
Liza: Just call off the PI, Leave David Hayward alone, and stop fooling around with poor Jake.

Jake: Once we get your white cell count back, I'll know for sure, but I think we're looking at surgery.
Gillian: Jake? Jake, you got to help us. Ryan was in a fire and his hand's all blistered.
Jake: Could you wait outside, please, just for a moment?
Ryan: Sure. Sure. I'm soy to interrupt.
Gillian: Jake, please, can't you help us now? He's hurting.
Jake: Gillian, as soon as I'm done with Mr. Coulter, I'll look at Ryan, ok?
Gillian: So, what, does he just have to sit there and suffer?
Jake: Look, get an ice pack out of the refrigerator, put it on his hand gently. I'll see him as soon as I'm done here, all right?
Gillian: All right.
Jake: All right.
Gillian: Can you hurry, please?

Gillian: Hi.
Ryan: Hey.
Gillian: Ok, Jake said this will help.
Ryan: Oh. Gillian: I'm just going to put that on there.
Ryan: Ah --
Gillian: Is that terrible?
Ryan: Well, maybe I should hold on to that.
Gillian: No, maybe you should save your strength. I'll hold it.

Raquel: If Max needs a strict routine, he'll have one. I promise.
Mateo: Yeah, me, too.
Dr. Erle: Just stick with what you're already doing. What we're avoiding is any more change.
Mateo: I understand.
Dr. Erle: Then we're on track. When I get back to the office, I'll ask my secretary to set up a regular schedule for you and Max.
Mateo: Thank you. And thank you for making this house call, Dr. Erle.
Dr. Erle: Samantha. Raquel can't travel yet, and I thought it would be less threatening for max if we met here.
Mateo: Yeah.

Hayley: Oh, let me walk you out. Give Mateo and Max some time. Can I ask you a question? I'm sorry.
Samantha: Go ahead, yeah.
Hayley: You know what you said before about, you know, no changes in Max's life for a while?
Samantha: Mm-hmm.
Hayley: You know, about how long were you thinking?
Samantha: Well, that's hard to predict.
Hayley: Oh. Well, see, the reason I'm asking is because Mateo and I have been, you know, trying to have a baby of our own, and -- well, you know, we're still trying.
Samantha: I see.
Hayley: I thought I was pregnant, but I'm not. And, you know, I just was curious -- should we hold off? Do you think we should not try to get pregnant -- I mean, not for a while?
Samantha: I don't like to tell people what they should do. But if you're asking my opinion, having a baby now would be very hard on Max.
Hayley: Well, we love him a lot, you know. It's just that --
Samantha: I know. I'm sorry, Hayley. I see this is very difficult for you. But watching Mateo with another child would only make Max aware of how much he's missed.
Hayley: Oh. We were hoping that Max would love his, you know, little brother or sister.
Samantha: Of course you were. That's why waiting would be a better plan.
Hayley: It takes nine months to have a baby. Don't you think that Max could, you know, get used to the idea by then?
Samantha: Well, pregnancy itself is a big change. Max is a smart little guy. He'll see your waistline expanding. He'll figure out what's going on.
Hayley: And you think that will upset him.
Samantha: Once you're pregnant, Max will sense his father's attention shifting to you and your child.
Hayley: I was hoping that he would love being a big brother.
Samantha: Well, that will come when he feels less threatened. Right now he thinks he's competing with you for Mateo's time. Imagine how he would feel and resent a little baby.
Hayley: I get the picture.
Samantha: Kids from stable homes suffer from sibling rivalry. They just can't get why mommy and daddy want another child. Is it because they let their parents down? Is it became they're not enough?
Hayley: Oh, but we have more than enough love to go around.
Samantha: Well, I know you do. I see it. I hear it in everything you say. Still, I think it would be easier for all of you if you and Mateo wait. Ok?
Hayley: Ok. Thank you, Dr. Erle.
Samantha: Mm-hmm. We'll talk soon.
Hayley: Mm-hmm.
Samantha: Hang in here. Ok.

Liza: Well, what are you waiting for? Would you call off the PI?
Adam: Don't be so hasty, Liza.
Liza: Don't be ridiculous, Adam. Come on. I don't like David Hayward. You don't like him. But we're not at war. We don't need espionage. All we have to do is slam the door in his face. Adam: Fine, fine, fine.

[Doorbell rings]

Adam: I'll call his office and leave a message.
Liza: Ok. You talk, I'll get that.

Adam: Adam Chandler here. When you get this message --

Marian: Hello, darling.
Liza: Hello, Mother.
Marian: Oh, hello, Adam.
Adam: Marian.
Marian: Where's my precious granddaughter? I can't believe you let her out of your arms.
Liza: Oh, she's sleeping.
Marian: Oh, can I go get her? She must be due for a feeding, or I can change her into one of those cute little outfits that I bought for her.
Liza: I'll tell you what. I'll go check on her because if she's sleeping, she stays sleeping.
Marian: Ok. So, Colby's keeping you up, huh?
Adam: Oh, I don't mind. Never been happier in my life. How about you? You and Stuart have a full house now that Scott's home, don't you?
Marian: Yes, yes. Life is almost perfect.
Adam: Almost?
Marian: We have one problem.
Adam: What's that?
Marian: My husband.

Erica: You pretend to be my friend, but you help Jerry Reeves humiliate me?
Vanessa: Erica, I am your friend, and humiliating you was the last thing I ever intended.
Erica: Well, you told him where to find me.
Vanessa: Erica, you said you weren't going to the club that night. Do you remember?
Erica: Yes.
Vanessa: When I called Jerry Reeves, I had no idea you would actually show up. I was simply trying to put him off track. And this isn't the first time.
Janet: If that were true, Jerry Reeves would have nothing to do with you, Vanessa.
Vanessa: I have been leading Jerry Reeves on, promising him exclusive interviews with Erica. I've been trying to give her just a little breathing space by controlling the spin, making sure all the reports were positive.
Janet: Is that why you gave jerry the thumbs-up after he shot that horrible footage of Erica at S.O.S.?
Vanessa: Yes. I've been trying to maintain an illusion that I was still working with him.
Janet: Well, I have no illusions about you, Vanessa. And now neither does Erica. The only reason you wanted her friendship was for money.
Vanessa: That's a lie.
Trevor: Oh, give it up, you bag of snakes. We both know you're writing a tell-all book about Erica Kane. That's why you planted yourself here in the first place.
Erica: Tell me that's not true.
Vanessa: No, it's not. I was only here to help Erica recover.
Trevor: No, you needed credibility. You needed to be on the inside. That's how you pitched it to Donald Steele.
Erica: Donald Steele?
Trevor: Yeah.
Erica: What does that shark have to do with this?
Janet: He's the ghost writer.
Erica: No! Oh, come on, no. That's not true.
Trevor: No, we just came from his hotel room. I got it straight from the horse's backside, and it ain't pretty. Let's see you talk your way out of this one, huh?
Erica: Say something, Vanessa. Tell me. Are they right? Are you writing a book about me?
Janet: More like a hatchet job.
Vanessa: No.
Janet: So you admit it.
Vanessa: I guess I'll have to. Erica, I didn't want you to see this yet. But go ahead. Read it, all of you.
Erica: Well, it's about me, but it doesn't seem to be a hatchet job. In fact, it seems to be a tribute. It seems to focus on my inner strength.
Janet: Well, if it's flattery, it's a fake -- written as a decoy in case Vanessa's plan was discovered.
Vanessa: Do you really think I have time to write two books?
Janet: Why not?
Vanessa: And I wrote -- I wrote them from the grassy knoll, no doubt. You know, you have the most ingenious ways of devising these -- these devious scenarios. Where do they come from? All I was trying to do is tell the people out there about Erica's courage and that she happens to be as beautiful a person on the inside as she is on the outside.
Trevor: Check out the dedication.
Janet: "To Erica Kane -- the truest, bravest, most beautiful friend a person could have."

Jake: Dr. Hayes will perform the appendectomy. He'll meet the patient in OR Two after he's been prepped.
Rachel: Ok.
Jake: All right. Let's take a look at this hand.
Ryan: Oh.
Gillian: Ryan was putting out a fire that little Max Santos set, and he didn't even think about protecting himself. He just went in, and he started fighting the flames.
Ryan: It was no big deal, Jake.
Gillian: And Raquel was lying there in bed, helpless. Little Max, to terrified to even move. So he rushed in, and he saved them.
Ryan: Gillian, that's enough.
Jake: Gillian, could you go see how many patients are waiting to be seen?
Gillian: You don't need me here?
Jake: No, no, I can take care of this. I just want to make sure that nobody wanders off, all right?
Gillian: Of course.
Jake: Ok. Let's go over here. You know how lucky you are?
Ryan: Why? The burn not that serious.
Jake: I was talking about Gillian.
Ryan: Let's just talk about the burn, ok?

Gillian: Can I help you?
Man: Yeah. Who was that guy you were just talking to, with the burn? He looks familiar.
Gillian: It's Ryan Lavery, my husband.
Man: I knew it. I saw him in Tthe Intruder." He was accused of raping this woman, and --
Gillian: My husband did not rape anybody, and don't you dare say that. That is a vicious lie. Oh, and you know what? Another thing -- stop wandering around here. If you're sick, you sit with the other sick people and you wait your turn.

Adam: You're having trouble with Stuart already? How long have you two been married?
Marian: I'm not having trouble with Stuart, Adam. I'm having trouble with you.
Adam: Me? Why?
Marian: Because you treat Stuart like a child. You give him an allowance, and you manage his money. I mean, that's demeaning.
Adam: It's practical.
Marian: Stuart is a grown man. He should handle his own finances.
Adam: No, no, I give him a very generous return on his investment. I give him a generous stipend. He can have whatever he wants. If he wants more, he can ask for it.
Marian: Well, can't you see how insulting that is, to have to come to you?
Adam: I love Stuart. He can have anything he wants, and he knows that. Has he complained to you about our arrangement?
Marian: No. No, he hasn't.
Adam: Well, then why are you?
Marian: Adam, Stuart doesn't even write his own checks. I mean --
Adam: Well, good grief, no. Neither do I. That's for business managers to do that sort of thing. I'm late for a business meeting. Would you please tell Liza that I'll call as soon as it's over?
Marian: I'll tell her, but I'm not finished with this yet, Adam.
Adam: Well, I am. I'm not going to rearrange the way we handle our funds. It's out of the question.

Liza: Adam left?
Marian: Yes. He had to go to a meeting, Liza. He said he'd call you.
Liza: Well? You haven't even said hello to your granddaughter. Oh -- why are you sulking?
Marian: Hello, little Colby. I'm sulking because your mean, old stepfather is an ogre.

[Colby fusses]

Liza: Oh -- I can't -- look, see what you did? I can't believe you. Why would you say something like that?
Marian: Liza, I want Stuart -- listen to me. I want Stuart to handle his own money, and Adam won't even consider it.
Liza: Of course not.
Marian: Well, Stuart's a grown man. He should be able to handle his own finances.
Liza: Mother, have you lost your mind?

Mateo: So, how'd you like Sam?
Max: She's nice. Is she going to be my new babysitter?
Mateo: No. Remember? She helps people who are mad and sad. You know -- or hurting inside. She fixes that, like Dr. Jake helped Mommy with her back. She does the same thing, and we're going to be visiting her a lot, ok? We're going to be talking about how we feel.
Max: Who's "we"?
Mateo: Well, you, me, and Mommy and Hayley. Ok?
Max: I guess. Can I go watch some cartoons now?
Mateo: Yeah. Sure. Give me a big hug first, all right? Come here. All right.
Raquel: So what do you think?
Mateo: Well, at least we know what to do now, right?
Mateo: You going to be ok by yourself for a few minutes? I want to check on Hayley.
Raquel: Sure. Nurse Kelly's due back any second.
Mateo: Ok. Thanks.

Mateo: Hey.
Hayley: Hey yourself.
Mateo: How's it going?
Hayley: Good. How's Max?
Mateo: Well, he didn't freak out when I told him that we're going to be seeing Dr. Erle.
Hayley: Good. He's going with the program.
Mateo: So far.
Hayley: One day at a time, remember?
Mateo: Yeah. How you doing? Honey, what's wrong?
Mateo: You -- you look so sad.
Hayley: I'm just taking inventory.
Mateo: How's it going?
Hayley: Ugh.
Mateo: Well, you know, we -- we got help now. It's going to get better. You believe that, don't you?
Hayley: Yeah. I know it will eventually. It's just --
Mateo: What?
Hayley: We don't have any idea how long this is going to take. And I just -- I just feel like our life is --
Mateo: Torn apart, I know.
Hayley: I'm trying to believe in my higher power, you know? You know, with all of this, especially after what Dr. Erle said.
Mateo: It's a relief, though. I mean, we can finally stop guessing about what to do. Hayley: Honey, Dr. Erle said to me -- she --
Mateo: Baby, I hope she told you how --
Hayley: When I spoke to her --
Mateo: I hope she told you how incredibly understanding you've been -- you know, how generous you've been with Max. You always look at things from his point of view. Honey, watching you with him -- you're becoming this amazing mother.
Hayley: About that, I --
Mateo: What is it?
Hayley: It's --
Mateo: Honey, you know you can talk to me, right?
Hayley: Well, it's just that Dr. Erle --
Kelly: I'm sorry I'm so late. I had a flat, and I couldn't get to a phone.
Mateo: That's ok. Go ahead. They're waiting for you.
Kelly: I promise on a quart of rocky road this is the last time I'll hold you up.
Mateo: Ok.
Mateo: Honey, what's going on?
Hayley: It's nothing.
Mateo: You know, I -- I have ways to make you talk, right?
Hayley: I was just feeling overwhelmed. Just ignore me.
Mateo: Never. Come on. I want to show you something. Come on.

Janet: You really cover your bases, Vanessa. But don't expect me to believe that's the book you plan to publish.
Vanessa: Well, of course it is.
Trevor: No, no, no, no. Donald Steele only writes flash and trash.
Janet: He's never written a complimentary word about anyone in his entire career.
Vanessa: Yes, and he wanted to take a negative slant on this book, too, and I would not allow it.
Trevor: Oh, you were protecting Erica's interests.
Vanessa: Yes. I told him absolutely no gossip, no slander.
Trevor: Dashing this off behind her back. Were you ever going to ask her permission?
Vanessa: I always planned to show you the very first draft.
Janet: You are so self-serving, studying Erica while accepting her hospitality.
Vanessa: All right. I admit that I was in desperate straits when Donald Steele offered me the book offer.
Trevor: Was this before or after you s
tarted camping out here? Vanessa: This was after my own son refused to give me a dime when I -- I had nothing to live on at the moment. I needed something.
Janet: So writing a tell-all about Erica was your only option?
Vanessa: All right. I admit it may look like I was trying to profit from Erica's tragedy.
Trevor: You bet your bippy it does.
Vanessa: No. Erica, if you can forgive me, because all I ever meant to do was make this book a tribute to you.
Janet: A tribute? You can't trust her.
Vanessa: You can't trust me? When all the while, in the hospital, you and your so-called friends were lying to Erica --
Erica: Stop it! Just stop it! All of you, stop it! You are just driving me from my own home.
Vanessa: Erica, darling, where are you going? Erica? Fine. Now you see what you've done?

Marian: Your Mommy is saying mean things to me, Colby. It must be postpartum depression, so we'll forgive her.
Liza: Mother, I'm not trying to put Stuart down. He is the kindest, gentlest man you'd ever want to meet. He has the soul of an artist.
Marian: Because he is an artist, Liza.
Liza: Exactly. So why do you want to turn him into a businessman? You really want him worried about stock prices and company breakdown values first thing in the morning like Adam?
Marian: Liza, Stuart has vision. He can scope out the truth of any given situation.
Liza: Exactly. He has special gifts, and being a financial genius is not one of them. It wasn't that long ago he got WRCW, and it was in so much trouble, he lost it for Adam. You really want him deciding your financial future?
Marian: Yes, that's exactly what I want. It seems I'm the only one who has any faith in my husband.
Liza: I think you should have faith in Adam. He has protected Stuart from stock prices and predators with investment schemes. He can outmaneuver and outsmart almost every living creature who dare do business with him. Marian: Including Stuart.
Liza: Mother, he loves Stuart. He would never shortchange him or hurt him in any way. And if you're suggesting that, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Marian: No, I'm not suggesting that. I'm not.
Liza: Good. Because I would rather bathe Colby than fight with you. Are you going to join me?
Marian: I wouldn't miss it for the world. And when you're done, I'm going to massage every single one of her tiny, adorable little toes, if that's ok with you.
Liza: Did you hear that?
Marian: Colby, you're an angel.

Gillian: My father got trapped like this once -- not with a bowling ball, but in a saber. It was after an exhausting duel, and his entire wrist got trapped in the grip.
Man: Your father fought duels with a sword?
Gillian: Yeah. He had a very bad temper. So anyway, a footman suggested that we cover it with petroleum jelly.
Man: And you did what this foot guy suggested?
Gillian: Yep. And it slipped right out. All right, you ready? Ok. You turn your thumb --
Man: Ok.
Gillian: And I'm going to pull. Ready?
Man: Yeah.
Gillian: One, two, three!
Man: Oh.
Gillian: Great! It's out. Does it hurt?
Man: No. Am I going to be charged for this procedure?
Gillian: I don't see why. I'm not a doctor. Excuse me.
Man: Thanks.
Gillian: Anytime.

Jake: Sounds like Hayward caused you and Gillian a lot of grief.
Ryan: Gillian told you about that?
Jake: Well, she was hurting pretty bad. She needed somebody to talk to, so --
Ryan: It wasn't my finest hour.
Jake: Look, Ryan, Hayward -- he's a slimeball. You know that. He set her up. If he's any part of a reason why you two are getting divorced, I would rethink things.
Ryan: Look, Jake, you really don't need to tell me what kind of a slime ball Hayward is, but I don't appreciate you and Gillian talking about what happened.
Jake: I'm sorry. I'm just trying to help.
Ryan: Well, we're beyond help. We signed the divorce papers. It's over.
Jake: If there was some miscommunication because of --
Ryan: There wasn't.
Jake: That's all I'm --
Ryan: Stay out of it, Jake. I mean it.
Gillian: Are you all right, Ryan?
Ryan: I'm fine. It wasn't serious. I'll see you around. Thank you.
Gillian: What happened?
Jake: Nothing. He -- he just had to run.
Gillian: I have to talk to you about something.
Jake: What?
Gillian: There was a man standing right outside of the cubicle the whole time you were treating Ryan, and he wasn't sick. He was listening to you talk.

Mateo: All right. Oh. Sorry. Keep your eyes closed.
Hayley: I am.
Mateo: Keep your eyes closed.
Hayley: I am.
Mateo: We're almost there. Almost there. Right over here. Keep them closed, please. Music.

[Music plays]

Hayley: Oh. I like that.
Mateo: Go ahead, open. Happy anniversary. I wanted to bring some of the beauty of the outdoors in our living room.
Hayley: Oh. Mateo. You remembered. It's not even official anymore.
Mateo: Hey, it is to me. What, you think I want to forget what we've meant to each other for the past two years? Or the day that we promised to love each other forever, no matter what? No. I want to remember that day every moment. It's the day I married the woman of my dreams.

Jake: Excuse me. Hi. I'm Dr. Martin. Can I help you?
Man: Thanks, but I don't need a doctor.
Jake: Well, then what are you doing in the ER?
Man: Well, I had these sharp pains in my stomach. You know, my heart was racing.
Jake: Really? Go on.
Man: And I was by myself, and I couldn't reach my GP, So I thought, you know, I decided to come here to be on the safe side.
Jake: That's a good idea. Have you had anything spicy to eat recently?
Man: I had some Cajun catfish for lunch. Would that --
Jake: Yeah, that might do something. Where was the pain?
Man: It was just kind of all over this area here.
Jake: Uh-huh. And it's gone now.
Man: Yeah, actually, I feel ok now.
Jake: Really? Well, I would feel much better if we checked this --

[pager beeps]

Man: Oh, you see that? That's my doctor. He got back to me. All right. I'm covered. But thanks. Thanks.
Jake: Sure. Anytime.
Gillian: So, what did he say?
Jake: Nothing. But I don't think he's here for his health.

Erica: David, I have to talk to you.
Adam: No, Erica, you need to talk to me.
