ALL MY CHILDREN

OCTOBER 17, 2000

Hayley: Mateo.
Mateo: Ah. You got me.
Hayley: Did I?
Mateo: Yeah. I'm here on a secret mission -- getting some stuff for my wife. I didn't happen to think I'd run into her.
Hayley: Oh. And now that you have?
Mateo: A little added bonus. Oh, but you'll still not get to see what I got you.
Hayley: Oh, you're so sweet.
Mateo: Yeah. So are you. What'd you get me?
Hayley: Oh, I'm not as sweet as you are.
Mateo: You know I'm not as good at receiving as I am at giving --
Hayley: Hey, listen.
Mateo: Let me see it.
Hayley: Why don't you let me meet up with you when we get home!
Mateo: Ooh -- oh, so I can't see it in public?
Mateo: Why are you buying baby clothes?

Jack: Ok, Bianca. Look, is this -- is this really so terrible?
Bianca: It's embarrassing, Uncle Jack.
Jack: I -- I embarrass you?
Bianca: No, you don't embarrass me. It's just this whole situation. I do not need you here shopping for school with me. I mean, I'm not 10 years old.
Jack: So it's my chaperoning techniques. They're too hands-on, right?
Bianca: Too prison guard.
Jack: Ouch! Ouch! Well, how many prisoners get their Uncle Jack's platinum card, huh?
Bianca: You know what I mean.
Jack: Yeah. I know what you mean. Tell you what else I know -- I know your mother grounded you because you skipped school and you lied. And as far as I'm concerned, that's decent grounds for grounding.
Bianca: Whatever.
Jack: What, are you going to take it out on me all day here or what?
Bianca: No, no.
Jack: Good.
Bianca: I'm sorry, Uncle Jack. It's just -- you know.
Jack: Yeah, I know. I also know that I enjoy spending time with you, and I don't care what the reason, ok?
Bianca: Me, too.
Jack: Good.
Bianca: And at least Mom realized that I'd probably go into orbit if she came down here with me and started trying to buy me dresses for school or something really evil like that.
Jack: Dresses, evil. I'll remember that. So, no dresses. Where do we start?
Bianca: Somewhere you can't go.
Jack: Why is that?
Bianca: I -- I need something personal, ok, Uncle Jack? Oh, my God. Just trust me on this one. I'll be right back.
Jack: Ok, wait, but, you know, I said -- I told your mother that I would --
Bianca: Whoa, whoa. Uncle Jack, you're saying you don't trust me?
Jack: No, I'm not saying that. I do trust you. I was just told --
Bianca: Well, I'm not going to go running off in the mall like a loser in some after-school special or something. Uncle Jack, I'll be right back, ok?
Jack: Ok, ok, ok, ok. Ok.

Dimitri: Edmund, I am acutely aware of how hard it is to have both of us here at Wildwind. We were kidding ourselves when we thought we could work through this. So Alex and I are leaving the hunting lodge tomorrow. But I want to tell you that I will not be threatened to sell our home --
Edmund: Your home?
Your home? Your home? Wait a minute. Hugo could never look me in the eye and call me son, but I do believe he willed this house to me alone, remember?
Dimitri: Edmund, Edmund, don't do this!
Edmund: Don't do what? Be your landlord? That's what I am.
Dimitri: Know what you're doing. And I even understand it.
Edmund: That's big of you.
Dimitri: This house has been in the Marick family for generations. It is not just about us, Edmund. What about -- what about your children? What are you thinking when you tell them that you are going to sell their legacy because you are mad at me?
Edmund: Why I do what I do is none of your business.
Dimitri: All right, all right, Edmund. If this house means so little to you, I will buy it from you, and you go do whatever you want.
Edmund: You're not the kind of buyer I had in mind, Dimitri. You're too greedy.
Dimitri: Oh, I should have known. Oh, I should have known. How can a home that you had to look up at from the muck of the stables have anything really of value to you? Whoo, whoo, whoo, whoa -- what's the -- oh, you want to hurt me now, huh, Edmund? Hmm? Is that it? Come on. Come on. Take your best shot.
Dimitri: Go on. Come on, hit me. Hit me the way Alf used to hit you. His fist was his answer, and you're thinking of answering in the same way. Now, you can come after me all you want, Edmund, but I will die before I sell my father's home.
Edmund: That's it. Who the hell do you think you are?
Dimitri: Who the hell do you think you are?
Edmund: You are not the master of anything, you son of a --

Alex: Stop it! Stop it, both of you! This is the second time I've found you looking like you're about to kill each other. My God, what is it going to take to end this?
Dimitri: We were just having a --
Alex: Oh, don't even. You think I'm an idiot? The time I walked in here and you were practically choking to death -- you tried to strangle him that day and you were covering for him then, and you're covering for him now. Well, say something. All right. Let me just say that this hatred is going to destroy all of us. Is that what you want? Something terrible is going to happen if it doesn't change.
Edmund: Nothing terrible is going to happen, Alex. I just told Dimitri of my plans to sell Wildwind, and he got angry, that's all.
Dimitri: Yeah, mm-hmm.
Alex: Oh, that's not all this is. I know you too well.
Edmund: A little presumptuous of you at this stage of the game, don't you think?
Alex: Why did you destroy your brother's memorial plaque?
Dimitri: All right, all right, Alex. Don't -- don't do this. It was vandals.
Alex: Sure.
Dimitri: Edmund could never do a thing like that.
Edmund: Seems like you don't know me as well as you think you do. I'm your vandal. Right here.

Hayley: I didn't buy these. I didn't buy these tonight. I came here to return them. It was really stupid, you know, because it was way too early to buy anything anyhow.
Mateo: Right -- no. You were excited, I was excited. That's why you did that.
Hayley: My mother's miscarriage -- you know, I was -- I was there. I saw the whole thing because she called me to the house to tell me that she wanted us to raise the baby.
Mateo: I know, I know, I know.
Hayley: And I saw her fall down the stairs and nearly kill herself.
Mateo: I'm sorry you had to see that.
Hayley: I saw how desperate she was, you know? And -- oh, she was just so desperate that she wanted to have the baby. She wanted to give us the baby.
Mateo: Don't return the baby clothes.
Hayley: Why?
Mateo: Take them home, put them in a drawer, and when we have our baby -- whenever that is -- we can use them. I promise that we're going to have a family someday. Ok? A real family.
Hayley: Ok.
Mateo: Come on.

Hayley: Jackson.
Jack: Oh, hey.
Mateo: Hey.
Jack: Hi, guys. How are you? Listen, have you seen Bianca anyplace around here?
Mateo: No, I haven't seen her.
Hayley: No, neither have I. Is everything all right?
Jack: Well, yeah. Yeah, sure, it's fine. It's just I -- this parenting thing is a little more than I thought it was going to be. I'm standing in for Erica.
Hayley: And you let Bianca get more than 10 feet away from you?
Jack: Yes.
Hayley: You are in trouble! You want us to help you look for her?
Jack: No, no, no. I don't think that'd be a very good idea. I think -- I think she'd have a conniption fit if I sent a search party made up of grownups out to find her, so I'm going to just remain calm and --
Mateo: Grownups?
Jack: Just, you know, if she's not here in 30 seconds, then I'll call in the reinforcements.

[Mateo laughs]

Jack: How you guys doing? Ok?
Mateo: Oh, we're good. Yeah, we're fine. Thanks. All right, good luck.
Hayley: Good luck.
Jack: Thank you very much. I know you're on my side. Damn!

Liza: I came here so Colby could see you before she goes to bed.
Adam: Oh? Where is she?
Liza: She's playing with Winifred. And I was just going to wait down here with you -- for you, and I remembered the surveillance cameras, and I was watching the tape.
Adam: I should've had those tapes removed.
Liza: Why?
Adam: Because I see what you're doing, and I won't have it. Liza, Arlene's accident was not your fault.
Liza: Well, I think I could prove you wrong.
Adam: No, you listen to me -- Arlene's accident was a tragic accident. I'm very sorry this happened to her. But she didn't lose that baby because of you. And I see that's what you're thinking, and I want you to stop it right now.
Liza: It's -- it's right there.
Adam: What's right there?
Liza: My -- my anger. It's all over my face. It's -- it's all over the tape.
Adam: Liza, you told me that it all happened so quickly you never even saw it coming. Don't do this to yourself.
Liza: I hated Arlene at that moment. I hated that she was married to you. I hated that she was pregnant with your child. I hated that -- that she would even think about drinking when she was pregnant. And you know, I think I might've wanted this to have happened.
Adam: Liza, no, no, no. I know the truth. I don't hold you responsible for what happened and neither does anyone else.
Liza: Hayley does. Hayley does. Arlene lost the baby and so Hayley and Mateo will lose the baby, too.
Liza: You know, it's right there and --
Adam: What's right there?
Liza: It's just proof of my heart, of something that I have known all along.
Adam: Proof of what?
Liza: That you and I can't be together.
Adam: Liza, I'm not going to let you talk this way. Liza, I'm not going to let you take Arlene's accident and turn it into some sort of a superstitious excuse for us not belonging together. Here. This goes in here. That's the end of that. Right? It's awful what happened, but it just happened. It has nothing to do with us or whether we belong together.
Liza: So my miscarriage just happened?
Adam: Oh -- don't go into that. Don't -- you can't-- Liza, I thought we'd put that chapter of our lives behind us.
Liza: I thought we had, too.
Adam: Well, then?
Liza: Well, I was willing to move forward. I was willing to forgive, to let go of the breakup -- of the fact that you were married to Arlene, of the fact that she was pregnant with your child. I was ready to move in. And you know, and she fell down the stairs. I -- I pushed her.
Adam: Don't -- don't even think that. Don't do this to yourself.
Liza: No. Every time we try to get back together, somebody gets hurt. And it's not just us. Other people's lives get mangled, and we just brush ourselves off and we go, "let's try again."
Adam: Liza, Liza, stop laying this colossal guilt trip on yourself. It's -- you're looking for reasons for things that have no explanation.
Liza: There is an explanation. You're just not seeing it as clearly as I am.
Adam: What is it, that you and I are jinxed? Is that it?
Liza: Yeah.
Adam: And you're saying that nothing good can come out of our love for each other?
Liza: Yes.
Adam: Well, to hell with that. To hell with that! You wait rig here. I'll be back.

Jack: So, you ladies do this every year to raise money for the soccer team? That's great.
Bianca: Hi. I'm ready.
Jack: Oh, hey, there you are. Listen, I'm glad you're here. I was just about to ask these young ladies to help me find you.
Bianca: I said I'd be right back. Can we go?
Jack: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But first I'd like you to meet some of your new classmates. I mean, obviously they go to Pine Valley High School.
Bianca: Hi.
Girl: What's your name?
Jack: This is Bianca Montgomery. She's my niece, just here from Seattle. And this is Shannon and Mindy, and this is Heather. How'd I do?
Heather: Just fine, Sir.
[Jack laughs]

Jack: "Sir." Well, you could've gone all day without saying that.
Bianca: It was really nice to meet you guys.
Uncle Jack? Jack: Uh -- sure, sure. But these young ladies have been so helpful, I'd just like to -- I'll tell you what -- let me get a dozen of those chocolate bars. How's that?
Heather: Sure.
Mindy: You look familiar. Shannon: Can't be because of the shoes. I guess grunge lives on in the Pacific Northwest.
Bianca: Actually, I got these here, and I was never a big fan of grunge. So, later.
Jack: So, this is great, huh? Now when you go to school, you'll see some friendly faces.
Dimitri: No, no, I don't believe this. I don't.

Edmund: I'm your man. Want to call the cops?
Alex: Oh, please, don't.
Dimitri: Come on, come on! The caretaker said that the plaque was removed by a -- a crowbar. I mean, destroyed!
Edmund: Yeah. But he's alive, right? So, like, why have a plaque memorializing him? I did you a favor, actually, Dimitri. So you may want to remember that. You also remember that I own this place. I own the whole damn thing! So don't forget that when I put it on the market and cash in.
Dimitri: Edmund, I will not stand idly by and watch you throw away our family's heritage!
Edmund: You're never idle, Dimitri. Are you?
Alex: It's late. Let's go.
Dimitri: Oh, Edmund, Edmund, Edmund. This is far from over.

[Laughter]

Man: I should've known. You're a coward, Edmund the weak. You're going to back down again, aren't you?

Alex: I want this to stop.
Dimitri: Well, Alex, that makes two of us.
Alex: Then let's do something about it.
Dimitri: What is there to do?
Alex: Leave.
Dimitri: I offered to do that. But his making light of this estate just to get me angry -- I mean, this is my family's home, this is where I --
Alex: It's a house, Dimitri.
Dimitri: No, no, not to me, not to my ancestors.
Alex: Well, then why don't we go be closer to them?
Dimitri: What?
Alex: Let's go to Vadsel. Let's go before there's any more damage done here.
Dimitri: Alex --
Alex: No, I am so afraid of what is going to happen between you and Edmund if we stay.
Dimitri: So you want to go live at Vadsel.
Alex: Oh, I don't know. I -- I want toe somewhere private with you where we can reconnect, and then I want to start over. In London, Paris -- it doesn't matter where. Just not here. I can't take another day looking at Edmund and the pain that we're causing him. I can't watch it. I can't watch him learn how to hate you because of me.
Dimitri: Alex, you don't have to go there again. I mean, you don't.
Alex: I mean, I'm not going to live like this. I'm so afraid that you're going to kill each other. We have to leave.
Dimitri: No. No. I can't. And damn it, I won't.

Mindy: Wait a minute. I've got it. I saw your picture in the paper. Your Erica Kane's daughter.
Shannon: What?
Heather: She said her name was, like, Montgomery or something.
Bianca: Yeah, that's my dad. It was my dad. My parents divorced.
Shannon: That is awesome. Your mother is, like, so famous.
Heather: She's huge.
Mindy: I love her makeup. My mom begged my stepfather for Enchantment perfume last Christmas. I steal it all the time. See?
Bianca: Great.
Jack: Well, that's something to tell your mom about, huh?
Shannon: Oh, I would die to meet her.
Jack: Well, listen, one day you can come home after school with Bianca, maybe for a sleepover, some such thing. You'll all get to meet her.
Shannon: Definitely. You are, like, so in, it's not funny.
Heather: You won't ever have to worry about anything now that you're with us.
Bianca: Thanks.
Mindy: Just find us during lunch and we'll introduce you to who you have to know.
Jack: This is great, huh?
Shannon: And we'll point out who you shouldn't go near. Do you get free Enchantment lipstick and stuff? Because whatever you don't want, we'll take. I love Jungle Fever best.
Mindy: Oh, me, too. See you tomorrow, Bianca.
Shannon: Thanks for the contribution, Mr. Montgomery.
Jack: Oh, you bet, girls. Anytime. We'll see you at the car wash.

[Jack laughs]

Jack: Well, that was kind of nice, huh? Now at least when you go to school, being the new kid won't be quite so hard or quite so scary. What?
Bianca: Uncle Jack, this is completely awful.
Jack: What is?
Bianca: I cannot believe that I ever agreed to go to high school here. This is, like, my worst nightmare. It's worse than a nightmare.
Jack: Well --

Hayley: I really wanted to be a mom to that baby, you know? I was going to love her forever, till she was Blanca's age and forever after that. And I didn't have any reservations, you know, because I felt so at peace about the whole thing.
Mateo: Yeah?
Hayley: Mm-hmm.
Mateo: Here you go.
Hayley: What's this.
Mateo: It's -- it's what I bought you.
Hayley: It's a charm bracelet.
Mateo: Yeah.
Hayley: It's beautiful.
Mateo: Well, you know, there's just a few there to start you off. Can you get it on?
Hayley: I got it.
Mateo: You got it?

[Hayley laughs]

Mateo: Let me show you. Here's a little heart for the, you know -- the obvious reasons.
Hayley: Very obvious.
Mateo: Very obvious. And a little musical note because you make my heart sing.
Hayley: It's very sweet.
Mateo: And a little key.
Hayley: What's the key for?
Mateo: My heart. It's the only one that fits. You know that?
Mateo: You know, there's plenty of room there for -- for all the memories we're going to share. You know that? I love you, and I will do anything I can to make you happy. All right?

Liza: It's late. I wanted her to have some time with you, but -- but it --
Adam: It's not late. Not too late for us, anyway.
Liza: Adam --
Adam: Here's why. Look at her, Liza.
Liza: Yeah, I really should be getting her home to bed.
Adam: Liza, look at our daughter. How can you look at this child and say that nothing good is coming out of our love together? How can you possibly look at her and even think that?

Mateo: Hmm. And we can put a little house here for the home that we're going to buy.
Hayley: Ok.
Mateo: That we will live in forever and ever.
Hayley: Sounds good.
Mateo: And right here we can put a little, tiny, little Emmy when you win best talk show host.
Hayley: You're so loyal.
Mateo: Yes.
Hayley: I hope you're a judge.
Mateo: Oh, I will be, I will be. And maybe we can put something here. Here. Here. Here. Maybe a little baby shoe, you know?
Hayley: Six baby shoes?
Mateo: Not enough?
Hayley: You're enough. You know that, right?
Mateo: Yeah. So are you. You know that, right?
Hayley: Yes.
Mateo: And listen, we can have our own babies, we'll adopt, we'll -- we'll do anything we want. You know why?
Hayley: Why?
Mateo: Because we have each other and our love.

Bianca: Hi.
Jack: Oh. Hi. Did you get what you needed?
Bianca: Yeah, I'm all set, thanks.
Jack: Good. Listen, Bianca, I was thinking -- did I do the right thing, introducing you to those girls back there?
Bianca: You were just trying to help, Uncle Jack.
Jack: Oh, yeah, I was definitely trying to help. But did I?
Bianca: Why do you ask?
Jack: Well, I was thinking about what you said about agreeing with your mother's idea for you to go to Pine Valley High School, how that was going to be a "nightmare."
Bianca: Uncle Jack, those girls --
Jack: What about those girls? Those girls seemed fine. They weren't?
Bianca: There were some girls like that in my old school in Seattle. The only good thing about that place was that it was about 3,000 miles from here.
Jack: Yeah, and 3,000 miles away from your mother.
Bianca: Everybody has their own opinion of her, you know? It's like her books and her husbands, and it's really hard to get past.
Jack: Yes. Believe me, I know. But we're both very proud of her, now, aren't we?
Bianca: It's just that everybody just gets so hung up on my being Erica Kane daughter, nobody wants to know me for who I am.
Jack: Whoa.
Bianca: Does that make any sense, Uncle Jack?
Jack: Come on, I don't believe that for a second.
Bianca: Uncle Jack, they're cheerleaders.
Jack: Yeah, the uniform gave them away. Are cheerleaders genetically incapable of being decent human beings?
Bianca: I could see what they were doing. They were -- they were totally dissing me until they found out that Erica Kane was my mother. That's the only thing that makes me fit in, and it's not the way I want to fit in, you know? I mean, it's never about who I am or getting to know me. It's about getting closer to my mother, the celebrity. It's never about who I am.
Jack: Well, I, for one, would love to know who you really are. If you'd let me. Oh, that was dumb. I was dumb again, wasn't I?
Bianca: No, no, you're not dumb. Just --
Jack: Old.
Bianca: Older. Is that better?
Jack: Oh, yes! That's a lot better! Thank you very much. Now, you listen to me -- I love you just the way you are. And by and by, if I ever -- what? What, honey? What did I say?
Bianca: Oh, nothing, nothing.
Jack: Oh, come on, Bianca, tell me, what is it?
Bianca: It was just -- you sounded like Dad. I thought it was Dad.
Jack: Come here.

Alex: I don't have any say in this?
Dimitri: Look, Alex, of course you have a say in this. I just can't leave.
Alex: But staying is turning your brother into such a spiteful man.
Dimitri: If I leave, I will be abandoning Edmund, and I can't do that to my family.
Alex: Why, because he's going to sell the house?
Dimitri: Oh, Alex, he will do that. He will do that to punish me for taking you away from him.
Alex: Oh, I hate this. I hate this.
Dimitri: Alex, Wildwind is Sam and Maddie's and my son Anton's heritage. It must remain in the hands of the Marick's. And I will work this through with him. I will.
Alex: What if you can't?
Dimitri: I don't have another choice.
Alex: I think he's the one that doesn't have another choice.
Dimitri: What do you mean?
Alex: I mean he's changed. Something's -- something's happened to him, and I don't think it's in his control.

Man: Look at you. You really are a weakling.
Edmund: Stop it.
Man: Edmund the weak. That's who you are and who you've always been.
Edmund: Get the hell out of here!
Man: It's your veritable birthright! You think you can sell this house and be rid of me? You think getting rid of Wildwind means you can dump your past? Look at yourself! Look at yourself!
Edmund: Shut up!
Man: This is your life! This is your fate! This is who you are!
Edmund: Shut up!
Man: Boy, you listen to me! You are nothing. That's why I'm here -- to remind you every day of that truth! I'll be here to torment you for the rest of your days.
Man: Over here, coward, over here. Do you really want me to go away?
Edmund: Yes.
Man: Well I can, you know. And a weakling like you could really make it happen. Get the monkey off your back! Be a man!
Edmund: What do you want from me?
Man: What you have always wanted, Edmund. And now you can have it if you dare. Do you dare, Edmund? Do you dare to take control forever?

Liza: Ok, Sweetheart. We'll get you home, get you in bed.
Adam: Liza, Liza --
Liza: I want you in her life. She needs that, and I want that for her.
Adam: Well, then --
Liza: And I -- I love you very much. And that's not going to change.
Adam: Liza, don't, don't -- stay here with me. We'll put Colby down in her old bedroom. And we can talk till dawn if you want to. Just don't leave like this, please.
Liza: I can't stay. Besides, you're married. And Arlene's in the hospital because of me.
Adam: No, no, that's not true. She's in the hospital recovering very nicely from something you had nothing to do with. And I'm going to divorce her. We could stay and talk about the rest of our lives together without --
Liza: Without what? Without the burden of your child between us? A child that I made her lose? Where do we go from there? And how could we?

Bianca: Thanks, Uncle Jack.
Jack: Oh, for what?
Bianca: For not pressing me, you know, about what I've been feeling.
Jack: Yeah. Well, believe it or not, I -- I miss your father as much as you do.
Bianca: I know. You know, sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with something I just have to tell him right then.
Jack: Yeah.
Bianca: And I even go to the phone and I start dialing, and it takes me a minute to realize that -- that he's really gone, you know?
Jack: Yeah.
Bianca: And -- and that I can never call him again. And when I realize that, Uncle Jack, my -- my legs just go weak.
Jack: Well, listen, I know I can't take your dad's place, but if you ever want to talk about something -- and I mean anything -- I would be honored if you would give me a call like you used to call your dad. And I promise I'll listen to every word you say. Scout's honor.
Jack: Oh, baby.

Dimitri: So, as a professional, you think there's something wrong with Edmund.
Alex: It's intuitive. No, as a professional, he's behaving differently. Haven't you seen that? And it's not just for the obvious reasons. He's a different man to the one I knew when you were gone, and I know him as well as you do now. And quite frankly, I'm scared.
Dimitri: Of Edmund?
Alex: Of what is going to happen to all of us if we stay.

Man: I'm not your problem, Edmund, am I? It's not me. You need to get rid of it. Oh, don't look so stunned. Stand up for once in your life. Edmund the weak, you know what you have to do, don't you? What is stopping you?

ON THE NEXT - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Erica: She ripped out half the pages in her journal. What is Bianca hiding?

Shannon: Hey, girl. We're just coming to decorate your locker.

Greenlee: How about a little strip poker?

Adam: I just saw our baby sleeping. Want to make another one?
