Greenlee: Yeah. It was.
Leo: I have never -- in my life.
Greenlee: Don't stop. I've never, either.
Leo: Was it the best, best time for you, too?
Greenlee: It was the best, best, best time.
Leo: To think that it happened right here at the Pine Cone Motel.
Greenlee: What's wrong with the Pine Cone Motel?
Greenlee: How long do you think we could stay like this?
Leo: Well, I don't know. If we can resist the impulse to say something snotty, I think forever.
Greenlee: I meant because I'm starving.
Leo: Well, there's some prehistoric peanuts right over there in the vending machine.
Greenlee: Are we going to be undone by a lack of room service?
Leo: Yeah, I guess I should probably go get some provisions, huh?
Greenlee: And then hurry right back.
Leo: Why? Because you're starving?
Greenlee: No. Because I'll miss holding you and kissing you. Really, don't take too long.
Leo: I'll get it started right now.

[Leo dials the phone]

Leo: Marcel, please.
Greenlee: Marcel?
Leo: He's the head chef at the Valley Inn. We're like this.
Marcel. Bonjour. This is Leo du Pres. Yeah, I'd like to place an order for two, please. None of your business. I'd like, let's see, filet mignon very rare, truffles with tyrolienne sauce, and pears flambé for dessert.
Greenlee: How did you --
Leo: And I suppose you have a couple bottles of the Chateau Mantelini 1982? Magnifique. Thank you very much. I'll be right down to get it. All right. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Marcel? Marcel? Make sure you put all this on Erica Kane's tab. All right, I'll talk to you later.
Greenlee: You remembered that.
Leo: Well, that's what you had on the best night of your life, right?
Greenlee: My 16th birthday.
Leo: When your grandfather flew you to Paris for the opera and dinner at Maxim's. I guess that means you're going to have to start listening when I'm talking, right, Greenlee?
Greenlee: I promise.
Greenlee: Leo?
Leo: Si?
Greenlee: Remember the flambé comes with caramel ice cream.
Leo: Yeah, I remember. See you in a minute.

[Key turns in lock]

Becca: Hey, guys, listen up. Ok, rehearsal's going to start as soon as Hayley gets here, ok? But before that, I need you to take these waivers so we can show your faces on TV. Get your mom and dad to sign them or you're just going to be a big blur. Oh, that's nice. Here you go. Here are the pencils. Can you pass them out? Anyone else? Oh, Bianca, hi!
Bianca: Hi.
Becca: How are you doing?
Bianca: Really good.
Becca: Are you part of this group? I didn't know you went to PV High.
Bianca: Oh, no, I don't. In fact, I'm not going to.
Becca: Really? You mean, never?
Bianca: No. I'm actually here to apply for a job. I mean, high school -- I'm so over that. Who needs it, right?

Liza: The only reason we're doing this show is because of the series that you did, "Teens In The Millennium," "Tempo" -- which was brilliant, by the way.
Edmund: Oh, thank you, thank you. People seemed to like it.
Liza: Yeah. I don't know how you find the time to write such great stuff, especially with everything you've been handling lately.
Edmund: Let's just stick to the show, shall we?
Liza: Oh, yeah. Hey.
Mateo: Hey.
Edmund: Hi.
Mateo: How are you? Liza: Fine. Good. Where's Hayley?
Mateo: Here you go. I got it, I got it. She's on her way. She sent me before her. Here are the notes. She said go ahead and start the rehearsal without her. She's run into a little family problem, if you know what I mean.
Liza: Don't tell me. Arlene?
Mateo: Yeah.

Arlene: Grandfather to your own child? Is that what you said, Adam?
Adam: I can only imagine how long you've been eavesdropping, Arlene, but Hayley and I have been discussing the idea of her adopting the baby.
Arlene: Her who?
Hayley: Me. Mateo and I want to do this. We feel that we can provide the baby with a safe and loving environment.
Arlene: What kind of people are you -- plotting to take my baby away from me?
Hayley: Think about this.
Arlene: No, you think about this -- the only way you're going to get my baby from me is if you pry her out of my cold, lifeless hands!

Brooke: My Laura? You killed her?

[Knock on door]

Eliot: That's the police.
Brooke: The police?
Eliot: I saw his car around the corner. I asked a neighbor to call 911.
Hank: You still got the eyes of a cop.
Officer: What's going on here?
Eliot: This man right here broke in, he threatened Miss English.
Officer: Hank, you know better.
Hank: These people, they got my kid!
Officer: Yeah, but you got to be cool. This will all work out.
Hank: This guy, he kills kids!
Officer: Come on, come on --
Hank: Come on, I'm telling the truth, will you -- officer: Would like to file a complaint, ma'am?
Brooke: No, I just want him out.

Brooke: Eliot, explain to me what -- what you just said. What --
Eliot: My real name is Josh Waleski. One day when I was off duty, I had a few drinks. I got into my car.
Brooke: Oh, my God --
Eliot: I didn't see her, Brooke. I didn't see her till it was too late.
Brooke: You're lying. This is some bizarre counseling technique. Claiming to be the man who killed my daughter -- why -- why would you do that?
Eliot: I don't want to hurt you. I wish to god that it didn't have to be like this.
Brooke: You're insane. You're -- you're just another crazy pervert I've -- I've let into my life.
Eliot: Brooke, I've lied to you long enough. I wish that it didn't have to be this way, but I have to tell you the truth.
Brooke: It's not the truth! You're just -- you're trying to hurt me. I -- I saw that man. That monster who killed my -- my daughter. I saw his face. And I looked into his eyes.

[Brooke looks into Eliot's eyes and realizes he is Josh]

Brooke: Oh -- oh, God.

Edmund: What would be great is if we can get an idea of what you guys are really thinking and doing. Well, maybe not really thinking because, you know, we don't want people getting a heart attack. Ok, maybe one heart attack would be very good for the ratings, all right? One. We'll be back.
Liza: You know, you didn't tell me that you're a natural at this.
Edmund: Well, you know, it's kind of nice to speak with people that are upfront and honest. It's sort of refreshing.

Becca: Hi.
Becca: Oh. Oh, no. Hayley likes lemon ginger. Oh, well.
Bianca: Wow.
Becca: Hi.
Bianca: You do everything. No, come on, it looks like such fun.
Becca: So, you're thinking about quitting school?
Bianca: Yeah, well, I mean, I had this private school interview today, and I'm in this lady's office sitting across from her, and she's asking me all these like really personal questions, and I'm thinking, "hey, I'm paying you to go here." And suddenly I realized that that whole thing is backwards. I mean, if I got a job, I would get paid to learn things that really matter.
Becca: You think so, huh?
Bianca: Absolutely. I mean, like, look at you. You work here. You get paid to know how to produce, like, a television show.
Becca: I know that Hayley likes lemon ginger and Wendy the weather girl likes peppermint tea.
Bianca: Come on, Becca, you do so much more.
Becca: You're right. I have two other jobs. I work at the Glamorama, and I take care of Tad and Dixie's kids.
Bianca: Wow. How do you find the time?
Becca: I don't really have a choice.
Bianca: Why is that? Oh. You need the money.
Becca: It's funny, isn't it? You know, you have all the money in the world and you want to quit school, and I don't have any and I can't wait to go.

Mateo: So, how's it going?
Edmund: Oh, you mean, how's it going at "Tempo" or how's it going in my personal life?
Mateo: Listen, you know, I know what it's like to lose someone. You know, if you need to talk --
Edmund: Mateo, you don't have any idea what this is like.

Liza: Ok, if you could just take this rundown to the control room, that would be great, and just show them this page.
Woman: Great.
Liza: Awesome. Oh. Another one? Could you hold it just for a second? Thank you. Oh --

Adam's voice: Dear Liza, I will not lose you, not again. I'll fix everything, I promise you. Love, forever and always, Adam.

Adam: Arlene, be careful. Nothing would be easier than for us to prove you're an unfit mother.
Arlene: Oh, go ahead, Adam. Bring on your threats. You have no idea what a mother will do to keep her child.
Adam: Really? All right, I'll add $200,000 to the half a million I've already offered you, if you will agree to allow Hayley and Mateo to adopt the baby.
Arlene: You think I'm going to sell my child for $200,000?
Adam: All right then, how much?
Hayley: Dad --
Adam: Honey, I'm sorry, but, as you can see, it's no use --
Hayley: Let me just talk to her alone.
Adam: It's not going to do any good.
Hayley: I can't do this with you here.
Adam: All right.
Arlene, would please try to understand what she's saying to you?

Arlene: Oh, Hayley -- why are you doing this? Why are you plotting with your father to take my baby away from me?
Hayley: Because I know what it's like to be raised by you.
Arlene: Do you realize -- you realize what you're asking of me? I mean, why do you hate me so much?
Hayley: You want a drink, don't you?
Arlene: I can't drink, I'm pregnant. I mean, what kind of person do you think I am?
Hayley: I know what you are. If it's one thing I'm an expert on, it's what you are, and you are weak and you are selfish, and you put your needs first, last, and always, and you can't do that if you're going to raise a baby. Now, accept that and do what's in the best interest of this child.

Leo: Greenlee? Greenlee? Come and get it.
Greenlee: Back so soon?
Leo: Smell.
Greenlee: Mmm, steak.
Leo: Yeah, well, wait till you try it. You'll feel like you're back at Maxim's. Greenlee: I'm not hungry.
Leo: You just said that you were starving.
Greenlee: I know, but I found some mints in my purse.
Leo: Well, I guess we know what it takes to work up your appetite.
Greenlee: I can't.
Leo: What happened?
Greenlee: It's just -- nothing. I have to go. My grandfather's putting me up at the Valley Inn, so I should start packing so I can get going and move in there.
Leo: All right, well, we'll get you moved, and then we'll --
Greenlee: No. No, no, no, no, you go on. The ice cream will melt, and it does smell delicious. So, bon appetit. I'm still not through here yet.
Leo: Greenlee, you -- half an hour ago you said that you wanted to stay here with me forever. What's going on?
Greenlee: We had a great time, Leo. I have other things to do now.
Leo: Well, let's do them together. I want -- I'd like to stay here with you.
Greenlee: I don't want to be here with you, Leo. I want you to leave me alone.

Arlene: Hayley, this baby is my chance. Don't you see that? I'm going to do everything right this time. I'm going to make up for all the mistakes I made with you. I promise. You're going to be so proud of me. And you'll finally realize what kind of person I really am.
Hayley: You really think that this baby is going to make Adam love you? After everything that's happened? After what he just stood here and told you in this room?
Arlene: Nothing is more important to Adam Chandler than his children. Everybody knows that.
Hayley: God! You don't even have a brain cell left! It's true! Are you kidding me? I felt better when I thought you were just trying to squeeze more money out of him. But you really think you have a chance with Adam.
Arlene: Well, if I don't have a chance, then at least I still have my baby, and there'll be one person in this world that loves .
Hayley: Let me explain to you how that's going to be, "Mom."
Arlene: No, I'm not interested in your bitter view of life.
Hayley: After Adam tosses you out, which he will, you will go through every dime of that money, and you will wind up living in some hole, and then my brother or sister will wind up coming home from school every day witnessing the same freak show I came home to -- you rolling around in the sack with some drunk you picked up in a bar!
Arlene: You will never forgive me, will you?
Hayley: I have spent my entire life trying to forgive and understand you. And you always want just one more chance to make amends. This is your chance. This is your golden opportunity to make amends. You give up custody of that baby.

Brooke: Your eyes. I remember -- I remember after Laura died, you -- you -- you wanted to speak to me, and I -- I could barely look at you, but I -- I saw your eyes. Oh, God. God, why didn't -- why -- why didn't I see it? Why didn't I recognize you?
Eliot: In prison, I got into a fight. My face was hurt badly. I had to have surgery. When I recovered, I looked different. I realized that I could start over -- with a new name, a new identity.
Brooke: Pretending to be a minister? Eliot: After
long time and a lot of pain, I found my way to God. I am a minister, Brooke, fully ordained.
Brooke: Oh, I'm so glad things have worked out for you.
Eliot: No, Brooke, no --
Brooke: Why did you come here?
Eliot: Because even though I had found peace with God, I knew that I could never be whole without your forgiveness.
Brooke: But you've been here for months. You befriended me. We --
Eliot: I -- I came back to Pine Valley for my own sake. But after meeting you again, seeing what I'd done to you, I realized that I couldn't reveal myself to you. You had never lost the pain from what I took from you. And then I thought that there was something that I could do to help you --
Brooke: Help me?
Eliot: Yes, Brooke. And then -- well, we started getting closer, and something happened that I didn't expect, and -- it changed everything. Brooke, I fell in love with you.

Edmund: Ok. One more thing you got to remember -- when you're on TV for the very first time, your mouth is going to dry up like sandpaper --

Liza: He's doing great, isn't he?
Mateo: Yeah. Looks can be deceiving, though.

Bianca: Hi, Ms. Colby.
Liza: Bianca. Well, this is a nice surprise. I was sorry to hear about your father.
Bianca: Oh. Thank you.
Liza: Are you doing ok?
Bianca: Yes. Thank you. Actually, can I speak with you for a minute?
Liza: Sure, sure. Would you excuse us?

[Liza chuckles]

Liza: What can I do for you?
Bianca: I wanted to ask, I really don't know if this is the right way, but I'm looking for a full-time job because I'm leaving school and I need to support myself.
Liza: So, you're dropping out of school?
Bianca: I feel that WRCW is a really good place to start a career.
Liza: Well, you're right. And I don't think that we have any full-time positions for anybody without a high school diploma. Really, the best advice that I can give you is maybe the Burger Barn across the street. They might be taking applications. Really, that is the best that you're going to be able to do under the circumstances.

Liza: Adam does not know when to quit.
Adam: And he never will.
Liza: Oh, no. No, no. I can't do this, not here. I'm working. No, I can't do this.
Adam: We've already wasted enough time. Come here.

Leo: So you're -- you were hungry and now you're not? We just had a really great time, and now you want me to leave?
Greenlee: Leo, please don't be difficult. I'm tired, and I have lots to do.
Leo: Greenlee, who's being difficult here? Why are you being so --
Greenlee: Exactly. I'm back to being my usual self. Why would you want to be with me a second longer?
Leo: Stop it! What is going on with you? Look, what just happened here was more than recreation. You know that. Greenlee, we've slept together before. And it's always been great, but this time it was more. It was -- we had a -- a connection here. I don't even know what to call it, but I -- because I've never felt it before. When I looked into your eyes, and you looked into mine, Greenlee, it was more than sex. We found something. We found something wonderful.
Greenlee: Don't do this, Leo. Please?
Leo: No, I'm not going to let you spoil this because that's what you do. You don't want me to leave here. I know you don't. Greenlee, when you made love to me, you -- you were feeling the same thing that I was feeling.
Greenlee: I wish I had never come here.

Brooke: You came back to Pine Valley for my forgiveness? And you fell in love with me?
Eliot: That was never my intention.
Brooke: You know, from the first day we met, I knew there was something about you. You were -- you were so good to me. You were so helpful.
Eliot: Brooke, I just want you to know -- I just want you to know how sorry I am about -- about what I did to you. Words don't -- what I did can never be put right. I know that. But I want you to know that there is a void in me, too, Brooke, a wound that is never going to heal no matter -- no matter what else happens.
Brooke: Do you want me to feel something for you? I don't! I don't. I don't care if you are repentant. You -- you are the man who killed my daughter! I don't forgive you! I couldn't forgive you if I wanted to, and I don't!
Eliot: Please, for your own sake --
Brooke: I hope you agonize over what you did for the rest of your life!
Brooke: Everything between us, everything that we said to each other has been a lie! I just want you -- I just want you to burn in hell!

Tom: It's Laura. Brooke, she's been hit by a car.
Brooke: Oh, my God. Well, how is she? I mean, she's ok, isn't she?
Tom: Joe and Cliff tried everything that they could, but the -- the head injury was too severe.
Brooke's voice: No.
Tom's voice: She died almost immediately.
Brooke's voice: No! No! No! No!


Arlene: I'm not going to give you this baby. I am going to be the best mother, and it will be a whole lot easier this time because I won't have a child who hates me from day one.
Hayley: Arlene --
Arlene: She'll understand me. She will. And she'll love me. And she'll call me "Mom" instead of "Arlene," and I won't have to jump through hoops to make her proud of me.
Hayley: You know, you did a really great thing when you brought Uncle Stuart to dad's bedside, and I was proud of you.
Arlene: You were?
Hayley: Yes. Because I thought there was hope for you because, once in your life, you showed a little common, human decency. But if you hold on to this child in order to hold on to Adam, then I know there is no hope for you, and I give up.
Arlene: Well, I guess I'm just going to have live with that because I'm keeping my baby. And I'm going to accomplish things, Hayley, big things. And you'll be sorry that you ever tried to take her away from me.
Hayley: Do me one favor -- have Winifred get rid of all of the alcohol in this house, and please hire someone to stay with you 24 hours a day so that you don't take a drink.
Arlene: It won't be necessary.

[Door slams]

Liza: Oh. Libby, thank you.
Libby: No problem.
Liza: Thanks.

Liza: Ok. You and Hayley are going to adopt Arlene's baby.
Mateo: Yeah.
Liza: And you've agreed to it.
Adam: Um --
Mateo: Well, we thought it was the right thing to do.
Adam: Yeah. This way, the child can have a real life, and so can we.
Liza: And what about Arlene? What does she have to say about this?
Adam: Hayley thinks she can convince her.
Mateo: Yeah.
Adam: To give up your child.
Mateo: Yeah. Yeah, Hayley's really convinced about this, to get her to give up on this --

[telephone rings]

Mateo: And that's my phone.

Adam: Oh --
Liza: Mm-hmm. I think you're fooling yourself if you think that Arlene is going to agree to this.
Adam: Arlene doesn't care about that child. She's using it to hold on to me.
Liza: And she's successful. She's still in your house.
Adam: Who cares about the house? That's -- that's it. I'll hire a full-time nurse to make sure that -- that Arlene doesn't drink. And I'll move out.
Liza: Where will you go?
Adam: I'll move in with you.

Becca: Thank you.
Bianca: Liza suggested that I try my luck at the Burger Barn. She thinks I should stay in school.
Becca: I know you don't want to hear this right now. But, without a high school diploma, you're just going to get grunge work.
Bianca: I think that you're both wrong. I think that I am smart enough that I can make it on my own.

Mateo: Please. Are you calm? All right, good. All right. Thank you for pulling over. I don't want you driving like this. You're calm? All right, fine. Now -- wait, wait. Before you hang up -- before you hang up, just turn on some nice, relaxing music and come straight here, ok? And we'll talk. Ok. I love you.

Mateo: She's on her way.
Edmund: Hayley?
Mateo: Yeah.
Edmund: That's good. We can rehearse, then. Listen, Mateo, I'm sorry about biting your head off before. I'm just tired of everybody thinking that my head's going to explode.
Mateo: I wasn't trying to do that, you know. I'm just worried about you.
Edmund: Don't, ok? I just want to get on with my life.
Mateo: What is it?
Edmund: That was just weird.
Mateo: What?
Edmund: She used to say that -- Alex. It was some sort of brainwashing technique.

Libby: Excuse me -- Mr. Grey? Hello, I'm Libby Daniels. I'm an AD here -- assistant director?
Edmund: Hi.
Libby: When they told me Edmund Grey was going to be here today, I was thrilled because I just loved your book --
Edmund: I'm sorry. I can't do this.

[Telephone rings]

Edmund: Hello?
Eliot: Edmund? Hi, it's Eliot. I'm -- I'm calling you about Brooke. She's in bad shape right now. She needs you.

Leo: I don't believe you. You loved having me here. And I will not let you kill what just happened between us, Greenlee.
Greenlee: Oh, get over yourself. Take no for an answer.
Leo: Look at me. I know what you're doing. You're scared.
Greenlee: Why should I be scared?
Leo: The same reason I am -- you don't want to be hurt.
Greenlee: I don't want either one of us to be hurt.
Leo: Well, then why are you kicking me out? What is this? What, did you think that on the way back from the Valley Inn, I'd realize that we both made a big mistake, so you had to be first?
Greenlee: Leo, I'm begging you. Please go home. This isn't the last time we have to see each other.
Leo: Oh, what's going to change that's going to make this any easier, Greenlee?
Greenlee: I don't know. Time.
Leo: I don't need time! Everybody that I've ever been with, I've kept at a distance. I didn't give them the power to hurt me. That's why nobody's ever really meant anything to me, Greenlee -- not Becca, not anyone. And I -- I think that's what you're doing right now, too -- even with Ryan. You -- all that he really hurt was your pride. Come on. It doesn't have to be like that with us. Greenlee, we're so much alike. I know you so well.
Greenlee: Right. So what?
Leo: Look, we have the power to hurt each other or keep each other safe. And I know it's scary. And you're right -- it might not work, Greenlee, but I promise you that I will never, ever hurt you and I will always keep you safe.

Becca: So, you think dropping out of high school is going to make you happy?
Bianca: I guess, maybe. I mean, how can you say an idea is not going to work until you actually try it, right?
Becca: Why don't you stick around until after rehearsal because there's somewhere I want to take you, and I think it'll help you decide what you should do.

Liza: You realize that The Gatehouse is very small.
Adam: We don't need much room.
Liza: But you -- you are accepting that you are going to sit across the breakfast table from my mother --
Adam: Oh.
Liza: Every day.
Adam: You just made your case. All right. We'll buy a house. No -- better yet, we'll build a house. Let's do it. I'll call the contractor in the morning. We can get a suite at the Valley Inn and stay there till the house is built.
Liza: Um --

[Adam laughs]

Man: And what time do you think she'll be here?
Mateo: She should be here now, so --
Man: Ok.
Mateo: Just tell me if she comes in.
Man: Ok.
Mateo: We could start soon --
Man: We got another couple of seconds. Oh, here she is now.

Hayley: I failed. She wouldn't do it. She wouldn't give us the baby.
Mateo: Oh. It's ok. It's ok.

Arlene: I don't need a drink. Just seven months. That's all, just seven months. Oh. Well, if I can't relax, that's not good for the baby.
Arlene: Just one drink. I mean, what harm can one drink do?

[Arlene gasps in pain]

Arlene: Oh! Oh, my God! What was that?

[Knock on door]

Edmund: Brooke.
Edmund: Eliot called me.
Brooke: His name isn't Eliot.
Edmund: What?
Brooke: He killed Laura.
Edmund: I don't understand.
Brooke: He was a cop before he was a minister. And he came back here for my forgiveness. I don't want to forgive him. I want to kill him!

Greenlee: Leo, what you said is very sweet, but it's not going to work -- not now, anyway.
Leo: Well, then, when? Greenlee, it's always going to be like this -- one step forward, two steps back! We're never going to get anywhere unless you're ready to risk something! Greenlee: I'm not ready! That's what I'm telling you, ok? I don't want to risk anything! Get out!
Leo: What the hell is wrong with you? Come on! Greenlee, please! Oh, fine! I'll -- I'll go! But, please, just don't let it be like this. Let's just have a glass of wine --
Greenlee: No! Why do you have to be so thick? Go away! I want you to get out of this room --
Leo: Fine!
Greenlee: Now!
Leo: Ok! God, you are hopeless, you know that? You're hopeless!

Wade: I thought he'd never leave.
Greenlee: I did what you wanted. I got rid of him.
Wade: And very convincingly, too. Poor lad's out there pining the fact that you don't love him as much as he loves you. Youth. If he only knew that your performance just saved his life.

Leo: What are you doing here?

Bianca: Please stop it. You're embarrassing me.

Arlene: It's ok, Arlene. It's just a little morning sickness, that's all.

Brooke: I fell in love with the man who killed my daughter! What does that make me?
