ALL MY CHILDREN

OCTOBER 18, 1999

Erica: Edmund.
Edmund: Hi. Erica.
Erica: Hi. Is this a new cure for jet lag?
Edmund: Maybe. Actually, I picked it up for Sam and Maddie.
Erica: Is there anything I can do to help?
Edmund: Yeah. Could you give me one of those red pieces?
Erica: Sure.
Edmund: Thank you.
Erica: So how was London?
Edmund: Surprising.
Erica: Well, you did go to the reading of Dimitri's will, didn't you?
Edmund: Of course, despite Alex's wishes to the contrary, yes.
Erica: Well, you're his brother. You had every right to be there.
Edmund: And I'm glad I did. Otherwise I wouldn't have believed it.
Erica: Oh, she's such a gold digger. Tell me that he didn't leave everything to her.
Edmund: No. It was nothing like that.
Erica: Well, what then? What did she do?
Edmund: She didn't do anything, Erica. It was pure Dimitri. It seems like my brother had one last trick up his sleeve.

David: Don't tell me you came all the way back to Pine Valley for the Inn's chicken pot pie.
Alex: Don't keep your lunch date waiting on my account.
David: Working lunch. I thought you'd be happily settled in London by now.
Alex: Hmm. My husband had other plans.
David: Really?
Alex: If you'll excuse me.
Jack: Hello, Alexandra. Doc.

Alex: Please, sit down.
Jack: Thank you.
Alex: Thank you so much for coming on such short notice.
Jack: It's my pleasure.

Liza: Adam, do you want to --
Adam: Talk? No.
Adam: I'm his father. He only wanted Tad.
Liza: Adam, he is a boy. And he was hiding out in the mausoleum, and he was scared and frightened, and he was having bad dreams. And of course he would turn to Tad and Dixie. He's used to turning to them for comfort.
Adam: Junior wasn't afraid of the dark. He wasn't afraid of being alone in the night. He was afraid of me. He thinks I'm a monster.

Tad: Hey.
Junior: Mom ok?
Tad: Uh -- no. But she will be. Something like this really takes it out on a mom, you know?
Junior: I didn't mean to scare her.
Tad: Yeah, I know. But a few hours sleep, she'll be as good as new.
Junior: I did a bad thing, didn't I?
Tad: Well, you had your reasons. And you know what? I can respect that. But I don't think running away was necessarily the answer.
Junior: You mad at me?
Tad: No. Why should I be mad at you after all the things I did when I was a kid? But if it's ok, I would like to talk to you about your dad.

Hayley's voice: Hey, Tin Man, we're coming at you live from the house of --

Hayley: I'm so sorry to interrupt, but why are you watching the videotape from Amanda's party? And you -- what's with the grin?
Ryan: Here comes the best part.
Scott: Remember, pal, duck and cover, ok? I'm out of here. You look great. I got to go. I'll see you. Bye.
Hayley: Scott's not usually so Tigger-like. What gives?
Ryan: Uh -- remember that new segment that Liza was talking about for "The Cutting Edge"?
Hayley: The style segment. The one I'm not interested in.
Ryan: Yeah, that's the one. I -- I submitted your audition tape to Liza.
Hayley: You did what?
Hayley: That's my audition tape?
Ryan: Ok, ok, wait. Now, before you go crazy, let me explain.
Hayley: I can't wait.
Ryan: Ok. I saw Amanda's party video, and you were so totally outrageous. You were that party. I saw how perfect you would be for Liza's new segment.
Hayley: And I told you I don't want that job.
Ryan: So I had Scott edit a 90-second audition tape, and I submitted it to Liza.
Hayley: And I told you I don't want that job.
Ryan: I -- but you're everything Liza wants.
Hayley: Are you listening to me? I don't want that job.
Ryan: But I just thought it was a good idea --
Hayley: You just thought that you'd help me out, even though I asked you not to. "Poor Hayley," you thought. "I can save her. I can save her from herself." Where do you get off?
Ryan: But I just -- if you would just --
Hayley: If I would just do it your way. I told you no, didn't I? Not once, not twice, lots of times. What are you smiling at?
Ryan: I've seen the tape.
Hayley: Oh. That's it? That's your ace? That absolves you?
Ryan: You got to see it, Hayley. Please, it's all I'm asking. You are really, really good. You're going to love this.
Hayley: Oh, now you're going to tell me what I'm going to love? Stop it. What is it with the men in my life?
Ryan: What?
Hayley: You're just like the rest of them. You're one of them.
Ryan: One of who?
Hayley: The Mateo's and the Adams.
Ryan: Wait, wait, wait a minute, wait a minute. Hayley --
Hayley: Stop it. Stop. I told you I didn't want this job, and you went behind my back anyway. Does that sound familiar to you? Adam pulls strings at Max's custody hearing, Mateo never tells me he was married before, all in the name of what's best for me, all coming back to bite me.
Ryan: Wait, wait. Hayley, Hayley, Hayley, Hayley, it's still your choice.
Hayley: You know, I really thought you we different. But, you know, when I turn my back, whammo, there you go.
Ryan: What? What? Hayley: I'm tired of the men in my life riding all over me, Ryan. And I'm not going to take it anymore, especially not from you.

Adam: I'm Ray Gardner.
Liza: What are you talking about?
Adam: Junior's nightmare.
Liza: He's a child. He fell asleep in the mausoleum. I mean, for heaven's sakes, he was camping out in a crypt.
Adam: But Junior dreamed that Ray Gardner came to get him.
Liza: Yeah. Tad has told Junior and Jamie about his father, that his father was cruel and violent. Of course Junior would dream about the bogeyman. I mean, the creep is practically a legend in this town.
Adam: But Ray Gardner kept saying that he was Junior's daddy.
Liza: Adam, it was a dream.
Adam: No, no, don't you see? It's obvious. Junior equates me with Ray Gardner, the worst possible father he could imagine.
Liza: Adam, you're overreacting.
Adam: I've never done anything to harm that boy. I've never raised a hand to him. I only wanted the best for him. How can I -- how can he hate me so much?
Liza: He doesn't hate you. You just have to give him some time to get over this.
Adam: Am I such a terrible father? Ray Gardner? Terrorizing my own child?
Liza: Adam you have made mistakes, like any parent. This boarding school idea was not a great one, but Junior loves you. He does not see you as a Ray Gardner.
Adam: Maybe this Ray Gardner bit didn't come out of the blue. Maybe it had some help.
Liza: Oh, no. Don't do this. Don't blame this on Tad.
Adam: But who else? Who else? You saw Junior. He was terrified of me when he came back to the boathouse. All I wanted to do was hold him and tell him that I loved him. And he -- when I tried to touch him, he actually flinched. He flinched. He pulled away. I'm his father, and he only wants Tad Martin. When they left, he didn't even look back. It was as if I didn't exist.

Tad: That nightmare you had -- that was just a dream. You know that, right?
Junior: It didn't seem like it. He said he was my dad.
Tad: No, no, no. Kiddo, listen, Ray Gardner was my dad, not yours. There's a big difference. Honestly, my dad never cared about anything or anybody. But your dad cares a lot about you. I mean, don't ever think he doesn't.
Junior: Then why does he want to get rid of me?
Tad: Well, he didn't see it that way. Your father just thought he was buying you the best education he could or trying to make you a soccer star.
Junior: It didn't feel like it.
Tad: Yeah, I know. Well, no dad's perfect. Not even me. Listen, it's a joke. You awake in there? Maybe trying to sneak you off to some prep school in New Hampshire was a bad idea, but your father really, really thought he was doing the right thing.
Junior: He knew I didn't want to go.
Tad: Well, I don't know what to tell you about that, pal. Your father's a very powerful man. And he didn't get that way by accident. And sometimes Adam just gets an idea in his head and he goes with it. Doesn't stop to think that he might hurt somebody that he actually cares about -- like you.
Junior: Do you like him?
Tad: Well, uh -- I think we sort of have problems with each other. I'll tell you what I respect about him -- how much he loves you.
Junior: You guys sure do fight a lot.
Tad: Yeah, but, I mean, that shouldn't concern you, should it?
Junior: And you argue about me.
Tad: Oh, yeah, because we're both crazy about you. Honestly, we just can't decide on what's best for you sometimes.
Junior: Would you ever send me away to school?
Tad: No, not in a million years. I kind of like having you around. Far as I'm concerned, you're stuck here, buddy, ok? You want to promise me something?
Junior: Mm-hmm.
Tad: Take your mom's advice. If you ever have a problem -- ever -- no matter how big you think it is, you come to me, and I'll take care of it, ok?
Junior: Tad?
Tad: Yeah?
Junior: I love you.
Tad: I love you, too, pal. A lot.

[Knock on door]

Jamie: Junior! I heard they were going to drag the lake for your body.
Junior: Yeah, it was cool. I had to spend the night underneath a pine tree. I think I saw a bear.
Tad: Ahem.
Junior: Ok, so maybe it was a raccoon.
Jamie: Wow!
Brooke: Well, I'm sorry to barge in, but Jamie just had to see Junior. How's Dixie doing?
Tad: She's ok. She's asleep.
Brooke: Yeah? And how are you doing?
Tad: Oh, well, this father thing is kind of rugged, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. I think it's maybe time that we should have la lecture, you know, for the both of them.
Brooke: Hmm. Ok. You first or me?

David: Alex was just mentioning that there was a wrinkle in Dimitri's will.
Jack: Was she?
Alex: This is private. I know that's very difficult for you to grasp.
David: Get over that jet lag, Alex. Excuse me.
Jack: Oh, sure. So, tell me, why didn't we want Dr. David to know about this foundation?
Alex: Oh. I don't like him. It's a chemical thing.
Jack: I like plain speaking. Here's a little plain speaking from me to you -- I don't like him much, either. Now, what can I do for you?
Alex: The Andrassy Foundation for Rare Diseases.
Jack: You've come to tell me that you've accepted the post.
Alex: Don't get me wrong. I am so proud that my husband has provided for this very important work, but I have zero interest in staying here and running the foundation.
Jack: Even though it was Dimitri's last wish?
Alex: No, I couldn't say no to him when he was alive. And it isn't any easier now, but I can't do this, Jackson.
Jack: He chose you. He chose you because he knew you would be the best person to head up this foundation. Now, Dimitri didn't make decisions like that lightly.
Alex: I know. I mean, there was a time in my career when I would have loved to have taken on this kind of responsibility. I would have loved it. But that time has passed.
Jack: Pardon me, but is this strictly about your reticence to get back into medicine, or is this about something else?
Alex: I don't want to stay here.
Jack: "Here." Are you telling me that Pine Valley is the deal breaker? Gee, you know, if I was a betting man, I would have bet it had something to do with Edmund Grey.

Edmund: Most of Dimitri's will was as I expected. And you were right. He did leave Maximillian to Bianca.
Erica: Oh. Well, that will be of some comfort to her, bu--
Edmund: Listen, you tell your little daughter that she can pick out any horse she likes and the estate will buy it for her.
Erica: Edmund, thank you. But really, it was Maximillian, you know? I mean, Bianca and Dimitri really shared a very special love for Maximillian. And I, frankly, will never forgive Alex for destroying that horse. I won't forgive her for what she's done to all of us. Well, I mean, just thank God she's out of our lives.
Edmund: I wouldn't be so sure.
Erica: Well, she's in London. She's not coming ba-- tell me she's not coming back.
Edmund: I can't say that.
Erica: Well, then what? What are you talking about?
Edmund: I'm talking about the surprise in Dimitri's will.
Erica: I don't think I can take any more surprises where Dimitri is concerned.
Edmund: Apparently, just before he died, he drew up a codicil. And in the codicil, there was an endowment for a foundation for medical research called the Andrassy Foundation for Rare Diseases.
Erica: Well, that is so very like Dimitri, but what has this got to do with Alex?
Edmund: He specified that she's to oversee the foundation. But the kicker is it has to be here in Pine Valley.
Erica: Well, Dimitri was in a coma just before this happened. I mean, obviously, he was not lucid, the will will not be
valid, and we can fight it. Edmund: Erica, I wish you were right, but it -- there was nothing comatose about his writing. I mean, Jackson drafted it. Silbert, his doctor, was a witness. I mean, it's completely legit.
Erica: Why Alex?
Edmund: Well, ex-wife, ex-doctor, expertise in neurological diseases. I mean, you know, take your pick. She is qualified.
Erica: Even so, I just don't understand what Dimitri was thinking. I mean, how could he force her into all of our lives? How could he do this to us?

Alex: Edmund is not the reason I don't want to stay here.
Jack: Oh, come on, now.
Is Pine Valley so terrible? Alex: Yes. For me it has been. I lost my husband here. I lied to all those good people. This has not been easy.
Jack: Look, I realize you've been under a lot of stress. I realize you're probably still grieving. So I tell you what -- why don't you take a little time for yourself and then give me your decision?
Alex: Oh, I need to start somewhere fresh, where I only have good memories of my life with Dimitri.
Jack: You could start fresh right here. You could keep Dimitri alive right here by heading up this foundation. And you'll always have your memories. You can create new memories -- and a bonus -- maybe you can heal this rift with Edmund, as well.
Alex: Oh, you're such a good lawyer.
Jack: I am the best lawyer you know. And I'd like to think I make a pretty good friend, too.
Alex: Yes. You do. I appreciate you trying to keep me here. It's nice.
Jack: Then tell me you've changed your mind and that you'll stay.

Ryan: Well, I guess you're not going to like the rest of my idea.
Hayley: What?
Ryan: Put on some heels, go in for the live audition, and get the job. All you got to do is stand on top of the pedestal that I've been building up for you the last couple of days in my spare time.
Hayley: Don't try to cute your way out of this.
Ryan: I wouldn't have to if you would just watch the tape. But you don't want to. That's fine. I'm sure Scott's not going to be too upset when I tell him that I threw this in the garbage.
Hayley: Hey, you can't guilt me.
Ryan: There is actual rare footage of you joking and laughing. But if you don't want to see a tape of you having a good time, that's fine. That's all right. Whoops. Oh, no. Wait, wait, wait. I would hate to go behind your back.
Hayley: Really?
Ryan: You say you don't know who you are, Hayley. And I'm just trying to tell you that this tape will give you a clue, at least what other people see -- how you light up a room when you don't even know it. I'm no Mateo. I'm no Adam. This is completely your choice. You still have to interview. You have to do an on-air audition. I'm just here to cheer you on. I'll throw it out.
Hayley: Wait. I don't want to hurt Scott's feelings. Maybe I should just look at it.
Ryan: No, no, you've convinced me. I had no right to do what I did. I mean, what kind of friend would try and get you a job as the community style-maker when you have such a wonderful career ahead of you in hotel management?
Hayley: Enough. I'm not promising anything, but I'll at least look at the audition tape.
Ryan: Well, I mean, yeah, if you really want to.
Hayley: You are so evil.
Ryan: Prepare to be dazzled.
Hayley: What, no popcorn?
Ryan: Well, I guess we'll just have to find something else to nibble on.

Greenlee: Scott.
Scott: Hey.
Greenlee: Hey. I saw Hayley going in. How come you're not in there listening to her swoon over your editing?
Scott: Swoon? I think rant might be a little bit more like it. She may not want to thank me for that tape. Ryan had me do it without her knowing about it. Thanks to you, I kind of know how that feels.
Greenlee: That wasn't an audition tape. You already had the job.
Scott: You're impossible.
Greenlee: If she has any cool, she'll love it. How about celebrating?
Scott: What?
Greenlee: Our collaboration. You could take me to the opening at your dad's gallery tonight.
Scott: That's a really good idea, but I've already told my dad I'm not going to go.
Greenlee: Oh. Found art not your style?
Scott: I'm leaving town.

Hayley: Wasn't Amanda cute when she came down the stairs?
Ryan: Do you see how good it feels to do something you like to have fun?
Hayley: Yeah, but, I mean, romping around with a bunch of preteen girls in costumes and hosting a style show are worlds apart.
Ryan: I mean, it depends on how you look at it, really. The way I see it, if something feels good, it is good.

Tad: So we're absolutely clear. You do not run away, and you don't hide. All right?
Jamie: Can I go now?
Brooke: We're not done.
Jamie: But I didn't run away.
Brooke: No. You're the one who did not tell the truth.
Jamie: But it was to help Junior.
Tad: Uh --
Brooke: Listen, did you know that it was wrong for Junior to run away?
Jamie: Sort of.
Brooke: All right. So then it didn't make much sense to not tell the truth to help him, did it? Ok. All right. So we agree. And listen, from now on, no matter how bad things seem, two things -- no running away and always tell the truth.
Tad: Three things. Always, always come to us first.
Brooke: Yes.
Tad: All right? Ok?
Junior: So are you going to punish us?
Tad: Well, I think this is about the time where I say they've been punished enough, don't you?
Brooke: Oh, works for me.
Tad: Oh, yeah.
Junior and Jamie: Yeah?
Tad: Mm-hmm.
Junior: Are we done?
Tad: You're done.
Jamie: Cool.
Junior: Thanks.
Tad: Why don't you go and get some juice, ok? Don't break anything.
Junior: Come on.

Brooke: Well, that wasn't too bad.
Tad: I disagree. You didn't see the look on his face at the boathouse when he looked at Adam. I'm telling you, Junior is terrified. I just spent some time with him trying to convince him that Adam loves him, that, you know, that he meant well. He's still freaked. And I can't say I blame him, either, now that he's on the receiving end of Adam's antics. You know, he knows that we're clashing, and he's stressed. He can sense the tension.
Brooke: Listen, you said what you needed to say to him to help him out of this, and he knows that you and Dixie love him. So with your help, he's going to figure things out.
Tad: I hope so. Which reminds me, do you mind if Dixie and I take the boys away for a long weekend, a few days?
Brooke: I think it would be a great idea for all of you.

[Telephone rings]

Brooke: I know the boys would love it.

[Ring]

Brooke: Hey, hey.
Junior: Hello?
Adam: Junior, it's your dad. Are you feeling better?
Junior: Hi, Dad. Uh-huh. Yeah, one second. Dad wants to know if he can come over and see me.
Tad: Are you up for it?
Junior: Well, I kind of think he's still mad at me.
Tad: Adam?
Adam: What the hell -- put my son back on the phone.
Tad: No, no. I got a better idea. I'll tell you what. You stay right there. I'll be right over.

Alex: You have to find someone else to run this foundation because I'm not staying here. No matter how much I love my husband, no matter how much of a good friend you are, it's impossible.
Jack: Look, if this is about Edmund, remember, I'm on that board, too. I can run interference. I can keep conflict to a minimum, and I promise you I will.
Alex: Really, it's not about Edmund. It's about me. I don't want to remain here. I certainly don't want to resume my medical career. This codicil -- it contradicts my plans.
Jack: All right, then. I'll start looking for your replacement.
Alex: Thank you.
David: So since you're back in town, does this mean we're going to see more of you?
Alex: Slim chance.
David: Pity.

Erica: Well, she definitely put him up to this, I mean, guaranteeing herself a cushy future at his expense.
Edmund: You know, I think she was really surprised about the codicil.
Erica: Oh, come on. Surprised? She's quite an actress.
Edmund: Erica, I honestly believe she has no interest in running the foundation.
Erica: You think she would go against Dimitri's wishes after all these theatrics as the grieving widow?
Edmund: Believe it or not, she was pretty adamant. She said she's out of here as soon as a suitable replacement is found.
Erica: Really?
Edmund: Nothing would make me happier.
Erica: Ok. In that case, I might be able to make you a very happy man.

Junior: Are Tad and Dad going to go fight again?
Brooke: Listen, they have their own way of working things out, all right? I don't want you to worry about it. I bet you guys are starving. How about I make you a PB and J. Sandwich?
Junior: Mmm.
Brooke: Huh? Huh? Huh?
Junior: Crunchy PB.?
Brooke: You got it.
Jamie: And extra J?
Brooke: J Is my specialty. All right. I'll be right back. And don't talk about me while I'm gone.

Jamie: Sorry I broke my promise.
Junior: That's ok. I was kind of getting tired out there anyway. It was getting kind of weird.
Jamie: What happened?
Junior: Well, you see, I feel asleep under this pine tree. And when I woke up, I was totally lost. That's when I found these.
Jamie: Bottle caps?
Junior: They were piled up right next to me.
Jamie: Were they there before you fell asleep?
Junior: I don't think so. But -- so I picked them up, took a couple steps, and there was one. Took another couple steps, and there was another one, till finally, there was a whole line right through the woods.
Jamie: Like a trail of bottle caps or something?
Junior: Yeah. I found the last one right where everybody was looking for me.
Jamie: Totally weird.

Liza: What's going on? Is Junior ok?
Tad: Yeah, he's fine, no thanks to Adam. Where is he?
Liza: What's going on?
Tad: I'm going to wring his neck. Dixie just asked Adam to give Junior a little time, you know? A little space to calm down. So what's the first thing your husband does? Gets on the phone, calls Junior, tells him to come over. You know, does your husband ever get the message?
Liza: He's concerned.
Tad: If he is, it's not about Junior. If he was, he would leave him alone. He would let him decompress.
Liza: He just wants to talk to him, Tad. He wants to tell him that he's sorry.
Tad: Junior knows he's sorry. Trust me. He knows he's sorry. I just spent an hour with him trying to convince him that his father isn't some kind of monster. Which isn't easy knowing all I know about Adam. I practically lied to him for the first time in his life.
Liza: Look, I know what you think about Adam. But he loves that boy.
Tad: Yeah, I know. I know what's at stake here. That's exactly what I said to Junior -- that his father loves him. I even tried to play off this entire fiasco as some kind of misunderstanding. Told him Adam meant well.
Adam: I don't need you to explain my actions to my son.
Tad: Somebody has to.
Adam: What else have you explained to him, Tad? A few stories about Ray Gardner, perhaps? Are you trying to convince my son that his father is just as vicious as yours was?
Tad: Didn't have to. Congratulations, Adam. You accomplished that all by yourself.

Greenlee: You can't leave town now.
Scott: I'm not going for good. I just -- I don't know, I want to get away from civilization for a few days.
Greenlee: Stay here. I can be very uncivilized, if you want.
Scott: I'm going to go to my dad's cabin, alone.
Greenlee: Huh. Why the Walden Pond bit?
Scott: Well, I was waiting for my acceptance letter from NYU. It hasn't come, so I figure it's not good news.
Greenlee: Oh. This is a "rethink the whole life plan" sort of thing?
Scott: Well, that or watch the leaves turn.
Greenlee: That's all it is, then? You're not still upset about Becca and the tape?
Scott: I'm going to stay away from that topic for a while, ok? Do me a favor. Do the same. I got to get these tapes back to the archives. I'll catch you in a few days, yeah? Ok.

Hayley: Got a bridge you want to sell me?
Ryan: I'm sorry. I happen to be all sold out.
Hayley: You know, you got some serious mojo working for you. I mean, I tear your head off, I go ballistic, and the next thing I know you've got me convinced that this kids' party was the highlight of my life.
Ryan: Have you changed your mind? You're going to do the audition?
Hayley: Better than that. I'm happy. I'm actually happy. For the first time in a long time, I'm happy. And I'm so happy, I could --are you ready ?
Hayley: If it feels good, do it.
Ryan: Well, I hope you're talking about another kiss.
Hayley: Think big picture. I'm going to get that job.
Ryan: That's great! Where are you going?
Hayley: I got to get ready. I'm not a mercy hire. I want to get this job because I earned it, not because I know you or because I'm Adam's daughter or because Scott put together a righteous tape. I've got a lot of work to do.
Ryan: Well, you look great the way you are. You're a natural.
Hayley: You know something? I really think I could nail this audition.
Ryan: I really think you're right.
Hayley: It's amazing. For the first time in a long time, I feel like -- I feel like I woke up. And it's all thanks to you.

Alex: Mmm. They don't make cheesecake like this in London.
Jack: Well, they make cheesecake like this every day here in Pine Valley, so there's another reason to stay.
Alex: Don't look so glum.
Jack: I didn't mean to look glum. Sorry about that. You know, I've had to do some rather tough things as a lawyer.
Alex: Like trying to arrest me at the airport when I first arrived?
Jack: No, I find it more difficult to let you go now. Look, you know you're the best for this job. You know that, and you know that that is what Dimitri wanted.
Alex: You promised me that you're going to start looking for my replacement immediately.
Jack: All right, I will. You're going to have to help me screen candidates. It could take a while.
Alex: Well, if I have to.
Jack: Good. It could take months, you know.
Alex: No. The perfect person is out there around the corner.
Jack: No. The perfect person is sitting right here in front of me.

David: If you tell me why you have that Cheshire Cat grin, I'll make sure I do whatever I did the first time even better.
Erica: I have the perfect job for you.
David: What, your own personal love slave? I'm sure the perks are great, but I'm going to have to think about it.
Erica: No, I'm serious, David. I'm talking about fascinating research, unparalleled prestige, virtually unlimited funding, and international recognition even beyond what you have already. And that's only the beginning.
Erica: Interested?

Adam: You are not going to come between me and my son.
Tad: Why can't you just give him a little time? He is freaked, Adam. He was shaking in Dixie's arms not two hours ago.
Adam: Oh, because he's very confused, because you're filling his mind with lies, making him afraid of me.
Tad: What?
Adam: Corroding what little love he has for me with every chance that you --
Tad: On the contrary, I just defended you to him! Don't make me regret it!
Liza: Tad.
Tad: Liza, just give me a minute, all right?
Adam: You would like to come between me and my son, wouldn't you?
Tad: All right. I admit it. Yes. If I thought it would protect him, you bet I would. I did make him that promise, Adam. You heard me do it. And those kind of promises I don't break.
Adam: My son does not need protection from me.
Tad: The hell he doesn't. For years I've stood by and watched the kind of damage you do to your children in the name of love. Well, you take this any way you want to, Adam, but that boy isn't going to be one of your casualties.
Adam: Well, that boy will always be my son. And there's not a damn thing you can do about that.
Tad: He may be your son, but as far as I'm concerned, you're no father to him.
Liza: Tad, you don't mean that.
Tad: Dixie and I are taking the boys out of town for a few days. When I come back, I give you fair warning. I'm going to do whatever I have to, whatever I can, to make sure he never falls under your influence, ever.
Adam: What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Tad: It means, Adam, that if I can find a way to make you pay for what you just did to my wife and that boy, I'll find it. Nobody messes with my family.
Liza: Tad? Tad, wait.

Adam: Barry. It's Adam. I have a job for you. Tad Martin. I'm going to destroy him, and I want you to help.
