ALL MY CHILDREN

SEPTEMBER 1, 2000

Dixie's voice: Hi, David. It's Dixie. Listen, I'm sorry to spring this on you so last-minute, but I'm going to be coming in late today. Tad is bringing the boys home from camp, and I want to be here to welcome them, so -- you can call me if you have any questions. Otherwise, I'll see you later.

David: I had to do that just to shut you up, Dixie. Dixie, don't go silent on me now. Dixie. Come on, say something.

David: Is this the gift shop? Yes, this is Dr. David Hayward. I'm going to get some flowers. Is there a flower by the name of a Peace Rose? Great. Ok, yes. Why don't you give me two dozen, ok? No, no, it's not for a patient. Just send it to my office. The name on the card is Mrs. Dixie martin. Thanks.

Dixie: Oh, my God, this is not good.
Tad: Baby, we're home!
Dixie: Oh. Hi! Oh, how are my boys? It's so good to see you.
Junior: I can tell.
Dixie: Oh, sorry. Am I squeezing you to death? Let me see you. Look at you! I can't believe it. You must have grown three inches. What are they feeding you at camp?
Junior: Bug juice and peanut butter.
Tad: Must be some soccer diet.
Junior: Hey, I met this counselor at camp, and he showed me some really cool stuff. You know, he's tried out DC United.
Dixie: Ooh.
Tad: Wow.
Junior: So you guys want to see my new moves?
Dixie: Well, actually, the first move I'd like to see is you unpacking your stuff. So go on, go on upstairs. It'll just take a second. Put your dirty stuff in the laundry, please.

Tad: Hey, hey, hey, hey.
Dixie: Hi, hi, hi. I'm so glad you're home. Where's Jamie?
Tad: I dropped him off at Brooke's.
Dixie: At Brooke's. Ok. How was your drive?
Tad: It was fine. No problems. Listen, did you hear anything about Jake?
Dixie: Look, no, but Adrian is going to find him, ok?
Tad: Finding him is not the problem at this point. Finding him is like a lead pipe cinch. I'm afraid that Adrian's going to have to knock him unconscious and hog-tie him to get him to come home. What the hell's this? Oh, no, no, no, no. God, no.

Adam: "Construction setbacks continue to plague Pine Valley's newest office complex. Behind schedule and over budget, Col-Mar Tower is tarnishing the promising partnership of Liza Colby and Tad Martin."

Stuart's voice: Adam, come on! The fish are biting like crazy. Adam, come on! What are you waiting for?

Marian: Oh, this used to be a nice park. You'd never find bums sleeping on benches.
Adam: I should have known it was you two when I heard the birds stop singing.
Opal: Hello, Adam.
Adam: I was having a lovely daydream about Stuart. Leave it to you two to ruin it.
Opal: You know, I don't think Stuart would even recognize you if he saw you about now.
Marian: You're really letting yourself go, Adam.
Adam: Terrific. I'm getting grooming advice from the nightmare twins. Would you two please tell me which direction you're going so I can go the other way?
Marian: This -- this is Stuart's lure. Did you steal this?

Alex: Edmund --
Edmund: Um --
Edmund: Congratulations, Dimitri. You've come out on top again. Dimitri, don't. Don't. Edmun
d: Just tell me one thing. How am I going to stop loving you?

Alex: Edmund? Edmund, wait!
Dimitri: Alex -- Alex, don't. Don't. Let him go.
Alex: Oh, God. Oh, this is awful. This is awful.
Dimitri: There's nothing to do right now. Neither of u right now.
Alex: Did you see him?
Dimitri: I know. That's because he loves you very much.
Alex: Why did he say you always win?
Dimitri: Because I always have ever since we were first born.
Alex: Because he was the illegitimate son?
Dimitri: Beaten and abused for it.
Alex: His stepfather.
Dimitri: Yeah, Alf, the groundskeeper, he treated Edmund miserably. Neither of us knew we were brothers until we were fully grown.
Alex: Then, what, his father left him this place?
Dimitri: As if that could change anything. The only one who could change anything was Maria. There were years of loneliness after she died. His falling in love with you was as unexpected for him as my returning from the dead was for you.
Alex: It all -- it all happened too quickly. That's my fault.
Dimitri: Alex, you can't. No, you can't blame yourself.
Alex: We were both so alone, and I -- I needed. And I think that we brought each other back to life, in a way.
Dimitri: I heard the two of you confessing your love for each other at the chapel after Hayley and Mateo's wedding.
Alex: What?
Dimitri: Yeah, I had just returned to Pine Valley. I came here looking for you. I found the wedding invitation on the desk, and I went right to the chapel, and you were there with Edmund.
Alex: Oh, I wish I had known you were there.
Dimitri: I know that. I know that. But that is when I first decided that it might be better for everyone if I remained dead.
Alex: It's not better for me. It's not better for me without you.
Dimitri: If I had lost you, my life wouldn't be worth living.

Adam: Don't get so paranoid. I didn't steal it. I brought it back with me from Idaho.
Marian: Don't lie to me, Adam. I was with Stuart when he made this last spring.
Adam: Of course it's Stuart's. I knew that the minute I saw it, but it's older than you think. He must have left it up there the last summer we went fishing.
Marian: Oh, I see. Well, then I'm sorry that I accused you of stealing it. Adam: May I have it back?
Marian: You know, this is really some kind of a miracle, isn't it? It's like Stuart's trying to reach out to us to say hello.
Opal: Oh, that is so beautiful.
Marian: Is that how you felt about it? That Stuart was trying to send you a message of love?
Opal: Try to stay open to it.
Adam: It's a fishing fly, it's not a valentine. If it means that much to you, keep it.
Marian: Oh, thank you, Adam. I will, and I'll treasure it. Opal, do you mind if we cut our walk short? I'd like to go back to the gatehouse and show this to Scott.
Opal: Sure, honey, anything.
Marian: This is really incredible, you know, Stuart reaching out to us like this.
Opal: I think it's a miracle. I really do think it's a miracle.

Tad: This is a disaster. It's like a bus accident with Italian food. Honestly, it makes the Col-Mar Tower sound like the Mir Space Station, only more expensive. I just wish I could figure out where this guy got his facts. I mean, nobody called the office for a confirmation.
Dixie: Well, you could call them and demand a retraction.
Tad: I would if I could. I can't find anything that's inaccurate.
Dixie: What do you mean? It's true?
Tad: Yeah.
Dixie: All the cost overruns? All the safety violations?
Tad: Every gory detail. See, I don't know what's happening. My life is falling apart. I feel like I'm living Murphy's Law. You know, every single thing that could go wrong has and then some. I feel like God is punishing me for Stuart's death. That's got to be it. That's the only thing I can come up with.
Dixie: Don't say that. You are not responsible for Stuart's death. Why can't you accept that?
Tad: Because if I'm not responsible for it, then I definitely get an assist. I'm the one that told Stuart that his brother was trying to torpedo his marriage. I was too self-righteous to keep my mouth shut.
Dixie: Adam was the one who broke his brother's heart. Adam, not you.

Junior: You guys ready?
Dixie: I don't know. What are you dressed for?
Junior: Oh, the Junior Varsity tryouts are tomorrow, and I was wondering if you guys wanted to come along.
Tad: Yeah, I do, and I'm going to. I'm going to, ok? But something really hairy has come up at work. I got to stop by the office first. Do you mind terribly if I meet you at the park in an hour? Is that ok?
Junior: No, no. How about you, Mom?
Dixie: Oh, I would love to, but, you know, I got to get to work, too. I'm already running late. So maybe I can get a command performance tonight. What do you think? Oh, I'm so sorry. Listen, baby, I want you to be honest with me. This job at the hospital, it takes a lot of my time away from home, but I want you to know that you are the most important thing to me. I don't need this job to be a distraction from our lives. Not with you starting high school and everything. So you tell me. You want me to quit?
Tad: So what do you say? You want your mom to quit her job?
Junior: Not on my account. Look, Mom, if I make the team, I'm going to have practice every day after school. And everyone says that they load up on the homework in high school. So I'll be hitting the books as soon as I get home.
Dixie: Are you sure?
Junior: Yeah, yeah. No more milk and cookies. If you like your job, go for it. Ok?
Dixie: Ok.
Junior: Anything else we need to talk about?
Tad: That about covers it. See you there in an hour, ok? Junior: Ok.

Tad: Wow.
Dixie: What?
Tad: Wow.
Dixie: What?
Tad: You just offered to quit your job. Where on earth did that come from?
Dixie: Come on. I don't want Junior to feel shortchanged.
Tad: Do I get a vote?
Dixie: You don't need milk and cookies, either.
Tad: You'd be surprised. I don't want David Hayward to take advantage of you.
Dixie: What's that supposed to mean?
Tad: Well, Sweetie, I don't like the way that he's pulled you into this whole Dimitri Marick thing.
Dixie: Oh, yeah. You're right, it's been crazy.
Tad: Look, if he wants to break the rules, that's his business. I just don't want you to -- I don't want him to take you down with him, that's all.
Dixie: It's ok. I me, now that Dimitri's secret is out, maybe I'll just go back to answering the phone and looking through the mail. From now on, there will be boundaries.
Tad: That's an interesting choice of words.
Dixie: I just mean from now on, there will be restrictions to the amount of time that I spend there, that's all. Speaking of which, I really should go.
Tad: That's too bad because I don't want you to go anywhere. You know, this button-down thing is really working for me all of a sudden.
Dixie: Stop.
Tad: I'm serious. No, I mean, this is hot. We could stick around the house and play a couple rounds of librarian.
Dixie: Librarian?
Tad: Yes, you could be Miss Narr, and I'll be the guy whose books are weeks and weeks and weeks overdue and --
Dixie: Stop! Stop. Go, go. You have to leave.
Tad: That's a really good start. I like it when you're bossy. Then again, you know something? I love you anyway. Always. Always. Always.

Marian: Oh, hi, Darling.
Scott: Marian.
Opal: Hi, Scott.
Scott: Hi, Opal.
Marian: Beautiful flowers. They for Becca? Have you made up?
Scott: No. I was going to take them over to Dad's grave. So, hey, what happened to your power walk? I thought you guys were going to circle Willow Lake.
Marian: Well, the most incredible thing happened. Look what I came across.
Scott: It's one of Dad's lures.
Marian: Your uncle Adam found it in Idaho. It's so beautiful and delicate. I thought I'd make it into a pin.
Scott: Yeah, that would be very pretty.
Marian: But the most incredible part of this is that last night I had the most vivid dream about Stuart. He was a passenger in a truck, and he was driving by rows and rows of corn fields. And he had his head hanging out the window, and his hair was flying, and he was smiling. But, Scott, I feel that he was somehow trying to find his way home, you know, back to us. And now I find this.
Opal: Well, maybe it was a psychic dream.
Scott: In what way?
Opal: Well, I mean, she has that vision, and then she finds this lure. I mean, that isn't any coincidence as far as I'm concerned. Remember what Frederick said? That he could not locate Stuart on the other side. So wherever Stuart is, I think it's clear that he's trying to send you a message.
Marian: Well, I feel Stuart is very close and nearby, especially right now. I don't know why, but I do.
Opal: You know, Honey, I know you had a bad experience, that that last session with Frederick upset you. But why don't you think about having him come back? Get him to do a reading on the fishing lure.
Marian: What do you think, Scott?
Opal: You know, you ought to be here, too, Scott. Last time, Frederick contacted your Mama. Didn't he? Remember? The whole room filled with the scent of gardenias. That was Cindy's favorite flower. Remember that, Marian?
Marian: Oh, yes, it was unmistakable. Absolutely.
Scott: Yeah, you told me. Look, if it'll make you feel better having Frederick come by, why don't you? Maybe this time I will stick around.

Alex: Oh, um --
Dimitri: What?
Alex: We've made this big deal about me being Sam and Maddie's stepmother. I -- oh. I don't know how to do this.
Dimitri: No, no, we'll find a very gentle way of telling them. Even if they remember who I am
. Alex: Yes, of course they will. You're going to have to see Gillian and Eugenia, you know, first.
Dimitri: I know.
Alex: They'll be happy.
Dimitri: Yeah, yeah.
Alex, I am so tired of hiding.

[Knock on door]

Alex: You think that's Edmund? Oh, hi. Yes?
Man: I'm from the lab at PVH, For a Dr. Marick?
Alex: That's me. Oh, great. Thank you. Thank you very much. Yes?

Bianca: Hello.
Alex: Bianca. Bianca: I thought I would take you up on your offer to ride Scorpio. It seemed like the perfect afternoon. Dimitri?
Dimitri: Hello, Bianca. Bianca: Oh, my God. I don't believe it! It's you.
Dimitri: It is. It's me.
Bianca: Oh, my God. This is so awesome. I'm so happy that you're here.

[Knock on door]

Woman: Excuse me? Dr. Hayward? I have the flowers you ordered for Mrs. Martin.
David: Oh yeah, right.
Woman: Where would you like me to put them?
David: You know something? Do me a favor, will you? Just take the card off and bring them to the nurses' station.
Woman: Oh. You want another card?
David: No, no, no. Just take them to the nurses' station now.

David: Calm down, Edmund.
Edmund: You lied to me.
David: Let go of me!
Edmund: You lied to me! You told me Dimitri was dead.
David: It was the only way that Dimitri would agree to treatment. It was a matter of professional ethics.
Edmund: Was it ethical to forge that death certificate?
David: I was trying to save his life, and I succeeded!
Edmund: You didn't care about his life! You didn't care. You just want to further your own career.
Dixie: Edmund, Edmund --
Edmund: You didn't think about the consequences, did you?
Dixie: Stop it. It's not -- it wasn't like that.
David: Dixie, don't get involved in this.
Dixie: I'm involved in this.
David: Look, I understand that you're hurt by Dimitri's deception, but my conscience is clear.
Edmund: Hayward, you don't have a conscience.
David: I'm a doctor, Edmund, and I was trying to save your brother's life, doing what I thought I needed to do to accomplish that. Now, I know it's easier for you to be mad at me, but your real anger, your real argument is with Dimitri.
Dixie: No, it's not. If there's anybody to be blamed in all of this, it's me.

Bianca: This is incredible. But how?
Dimitri: Well, I will explain all of that later. Right now I just want to look at you. Turn around. Look at how gorgeous she is. Look how much you've grown.
Bianca: Oh, my gosh. Does Mom know that you're alive?
Dimitri: Not yet, and I'm going to have to ask you to keep the secret just for a few days until I can let my family know.
Bianca: Of course. I won't tell a soul. Does Edmund know?
Dimitri: Well, yeah, he just found out. But we'll have plenty of time for all of that. Just tell me, what are you doing here?
Bianca: I came to use the stables. Alex invited me.
Dimitri: Of course, of course. That's great. Does that mean that you might be visiting for a little bit this time?
Bianca: Actually, I was supposed to go back to Seattle last week. The only reason that I stuck around was because Mom has this huge party planned for me. I'd rather have a root canal. Oh, but you have to come. Please promise me that you'll be there.
Dimitri: Well -- I'll let you know.
Bianca: Oh. This is weird. I already invited Alex and Edmund. Is this going to be ok?
Alex: We'll get back to you on this.

Opal: Oh, Frederick, come on in. I'm glad you could come at last minute like this. This is Scott. He's Stuart's son.
Scott: Hello, Frederick.
Frederick: You're Cindy's son, aren't you?
Scott: Yes. I heard you met her.
Frederick: I'm glad you could be here, although I sense you're not too thrilled about it. Your mother has a very strong connection with Stuart.
Scott: I know.
Marian: Oh, hello, Frederick. Thank you so much for coming. Look, I know last time saw you I said some harsh things, and I really want to apologize because I would really like to be more receptive.
Frederick: Well, I will admit I was surprised when Opal told me you wanted to see me again.
Marian: Yes, well, I wanted you to look at this.
Opal: It's right here, Honey.
Marian: Yes, please, look at this. Thank you.
Frederick: It's exquisite workmanship.
Marian: Stuart made it, and his twin brother found it in Idaho. He thinks he must have made it over a year or so ago.
Opal: Yeah, we're thinking it might be a sign, you know, like Stuart is trying to contact her.
Frederick: I don't think so.
Marian: Oh. Why not? Frederick: It feels new to me.

Adam: Would you talk to me for a moment, Son?
Junior: Ok.
Adam: When did you get home from camp?
Junior: About an hour ago.
Adam: How was it? Come on, come on. Did you have a good time? Was it fun?
Junior: Like you care.
Adam: What does that mean?
Junior: Come on, Dad. You never came to visit me once. I didn't get a letter, a phone call. Mom sent me packages and faxes almost every week.
Adam: I'm sorry. Son, there's something I want you to try to understand. Even though I'm not involved in your life right now, that doesn't mean I don't care. I do.
Junior: I don't get it. You say you care about me, but you never want to spend any time with me or do anything. Is that it?
Junior: What happened to your fishing trip? I thought you were in Idaho.
Adam: I came back early.
Junior: No luck?
Adam: No fun.
Junior: I thought you loved fishing.
Adam: I loved it last year when you and Stuart were with me.
Junior: I still have that picture of the three of us on the dock wearing those goofy hats you gave us. I think about him all the time.
Adam: Me, too, Son.
Junior: Do you?
Adam: Oh, yes. Constantly. I loved him.
Junior: Why don't you try to be more like Uncle Stuart, Dad? Why are you so mean? Especially to your family?
Adam: That's just me. I can't change. Son, I'm glad that you think about Uncle Stuart. I'd like for you to think of him as your father.
Junior: You know what I can't figure out, Dad?
Adam: What?
Junior: You're always telling me never give up, right?
Adam: Right. You have to persevere in life. It's essential.
Junior: Essential. Then how come you gave up on yourself?

Tad: Man, there you are. I've been looking all over the park for you. I'm sorry. Is everything -- everything ok?
Junior: Yeah, everything's fine. So, you want to see my new crossover move?
Tad: Yeah, yeah. Sure, fine. That's why I'm here. I'll tell you what. Do me a favor, ok? Why don't you give me a minute. I'll be right there.
Junior: Ok.

Tad: He just got back. Listen, Adam, whatever happens between the two of us, I think it's important that we agree that we do what's best for him, ok?
Adam: Your concern for my son is very touching. But I would think you have enough on your mind. How's that spiffy new office tower of yours coming along?
Tad: I guess I earned that. You know what they say -- it's not how you start the race that counts. It's how you finish it. That tower will be just fine.

Edmund: Look, Dixie, I'm not blaming you, ok? You didn't tell me that Dimitri had died. This is his fault.
Dixie: No, Edmund. Dimitri wanted it this way. David didn't really have any choice. I am the one who messed up because I couldn't keep Dimitri's secret any longer.
Edmund: Messed up how?
Dixie: I told Alex to go to the Hunting Lodge because I knew Dimitri was there. I thought she had a right to know that he was alive before he just took off for good.
Edmund: For good?
Dixie: He was going to go to Europe. He was going to start a new life with a new identity. He didn't want you or Alex to ever know he was alive.
Edmund: Dixie --
Dixie: I'm sorry, but that is the truth.
Edmund: Dixie --
David: He also set up the forged death certificate.
Edmund: Dixie, he wasn't going to stay dead. And he didn't stay in Europe. He was just biding his time until he felt that it was the right time to take Alex back.
Dixie: I'm sorry, Edmund. I just don't think that's true.
Edmund: Look, I'm not blaming you for this, ok? You're not responsible for this. Hayward's got a history of making women do things against their will. Now, if I were you, I would get out of this situation before he sucks you down any more.
Dixie: I'm sorry, Edmund. I'm sorry for all the pain this is going to cause you, but nobody here wanted you to get hurt. Just think about it. I mean, isn't it better that you know what you're dealing with now?
David: Yeah, and whatever else, your brother is alive.

Dixie: Go ahead. Say "I told you so."
David: No. I know how much you're hurting for Edmund.
Dixie: It's not just Edmund. This is a mess for everybody involved.
David: I wish you never got involved.
Dixie: Well, that makes two of us. But I'm going to tell you something. If I had to do it all over again, I would do exactly the same thing, only I wouldn't wait so long to tell everybody that Dimitri was alive. I wouldn't have listened to you.

Frederick: Shall we begin?
Frederick: We are gathered here this afternoon in a spirit of openness and good faith. We come with a question, seeking help. beautiful fishing lure which we believe was made by her husband, Stuart. Is this a sign of some kind? A calling card? Is there something that Stuart's trying to say? I'm still not getting anything from the other side. Yet I feel a very strong presence in the room, but I don't know what it is. Do you feel anything, Marian? Anything unusual?
Marian: No, no, nothing, I'm afraid.
Frederick: Yes. I know that it's very difficult, but I must ask you all to open your hearts. Open your mind's eye. Stuart is trying to reach you. You must let him in.

Bianca: Please, please promise me you'll come to my party. I swear, if you're not there, I will lock myself in the bathroom and not come out.
Dimitri: I'll tell you what. If we can -- if we can come, we'll be at your party.
Bianca: Yes. Thank goodness. This is going to make this so much easier.
Dimitri: Now, what about that ride you came out here to take?
Bianca: Come with me.
Alex: Oh, he's not quite strong enough yet.
Bianca: What's wrong? Are you still sick?
Dimitri: No, no, I'm getting better every day, and the next time you come out, I'm going to go out riding with you.
Bianca: I am so happy to see you. This really is a miracle.
Dimitri: Come on. Have a good time.
Bianca: Thank you. Bye.

Alex: She's so sweet.
Dimitri: Yes, she is. You know, she's right. It is a miracle, you and I together.
Alex: I'm very grateful to have you back.
Dimitri: Alex, we were meant to be together. And I know him. Edmund will understand in time. He will.

David: Well, I'm due down in surgery. Listen, Dixie, I understand if you want to quit after what happened with us. Just let me know, ok, so that I can tell the business office to set you up with some severance --
Dixie: Look at me, David. Just look at me. I think that we both know what has come between us. It's that kiss. And it's not going to happen again.
David: Understood.
Dixie: If it does, I will leave. Ok? But as it is, I think that you are a brilliant doctor, and I really respect the way you're saving Dimitri's life.
David: Thanks. And I want you to know that I do respect you and your marriage and how much you love Tad.
Dixie: Well, I'll -- I'll go do the mail.

Marian: Oh, I'm trying I'm really trying, Frederick: Maybe we should give up for the day.
Marian: Oh, no, please, please. Let's not give up now.
Frederick: We can always try again. You should try and gather up some things of Stuart's for next time. Maybe some things from his childhood. Perhaps a memento that hasn't been handled a lot.
Marian: All right. I'll get some of his things together, and I'll call you.
Opal: Well, I guess I better get my fanny back to the Glamorama, too, ok?
Marian: Thank you.
Opal: But I'm there. You give a ring if you need anything at all, ok?
Marian: Thanks, darling.
Opal: All right. We'll try it again.
Scott: Thanks a lot, Frederick.
Frederick: Bye.
Scott: Bye-bye.
Opal: Bye-bye
. Marian: Bye.

Scott: Marian?
Marian: Stuart?
Scott: Marian, are you all right?
Marian: Oh. Scott, did you feel it? It was like a shiver just went right through me. And it was like Stuart was just right here in this room. Oh, my God. That's the closest I've felt to him since the day we lost him.

Junior's voice: Why don't you try to be more like Uncle Stuart? Why are you so mean? Especially to your family?

Man: Here we are. Pine Valley.
Stuart: This place is beautiful.
Man: I guess. You sure you don't have a name or an address you want me to take you to, Stuart? I feel kind of funny just dropping you off here in the park.
Stuart: Oh, no, no, this is fine. You've already gone way out of your way to bring me this far. I really appreciate that.
Man: I was going this way anyway. You sure you want me to leave you here?
Stuart: Oh, yeah, this is a nice place. Hear the ducks? I bet there's a pond over there. This is a great place.
Man: Good luck Stuart.I hope you find what you're looking for.
Stuart: Thanks. I feel like I'm almost there.

ON THE NEXT - - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Leo: You didn't like me with Becca any more than I liked you wasting your time on Ryan.

Arlene: You will never get over Liza. Never. You don't even want to.

Marian: Stuart's not dead.

Ryan: Gillian --
Gillian: Jake?
