ALL MY CHILDREN

SEPTEMBER 12, 2000

Edmund: Why did you have to come back? You always have to win, don't you? Why? Why did you have to come back? Huh? Why didn't you stay dead? Why didn't you just --
Dimitri: Why? Why?

Ryan: You did that already.
Gillian: I did? You're right.
Ryan: Yeah.
Ryan: You got a lot on your mind, Gillian.
Gillian: Yeah, I have a million things on my mind. Jake's surgery. And then trying to absorb what Grandmama said about Dimitri being alive. Wishing I could be two places at once -- here and there.
Ryan: I know. I know. I can't believe it. Dimitri's alive. Hey. Gillian?
Gillian: I'm sorry. I was -- I was praying.
Ryan: Look, you're on overload, ok? Why don't you get some rest. You didn't sleep on the plane at all.
Gillian: Neither did you.
Ryan: No, I didn't, actually. My body clock is all out of whack. I think yours is, too. First Chechnya, then Germany. I don't even know what day is it, never mind what time it is.
Gillian: Time for someone to tell us something. I'm so glad Joe flew over. You know, Jake's going to be really happy to see him when he wakes up. He should be out of surgery by now, shouldn't he?
Ryan: Jake is going to be ok. Everything is going to be ok, Gillian. The children that he wanted to relocate are safe. Joe is in there overseeing his surgery to make sure that he gets the best care possible.
Gillian: Ryan, Jake might survive the bullet, but will he survive it when I tell him about us, that I want a divorce?
Ryan: Don't worry about that right now, ok? Look, we will tell Jake when the time is right.

Dixie: I got it in the bowl.
Tad: Excellent.
Dixie: You caught it. That's three. Oh, missed it. Got it. Oh. Amazing skills.
Tad: All right, baby, come on.
Dixie: You could make, like, money off of this.
Tad: Not with you. The one on the nose, I think, is definitely the keeper. Dad should be calling by now. I don't know what the problem is. Last time I spoke with him, he said that Jake's operation was supposed to be straightforward. So why --
Dixie: It will be, ok?
Tad: Is it taking so long?
Dixie: It's going to be fine. It's going to be fine. Try to be positive, ok?
Tad: I am positive.
Dixie: Jake's going to be coming home.
Tad: Honey, you know, it's not the only thing that's bothering me. I still feel bad about what happened in New York. Can only imagine what you felt like when you walked in the hotel room and saw me with Liza.
Dixie: You know what, Honey? I -- I don't want to talk about that anymore because I said that I understand and I do.
Tad: Which amazes me. I'm stunned. Man, the look on your face -- I thought I was done, thought there was no recovering from this one.
Dixie: Look, it's over, so let's just forget about it, ok? I should have known that Liza was up to something. I mean, she's always trying to drag us into her drama.
Tad: If I didn't feel half sorry for her, I'd be furious. I am furious. I mean, let's face it, she obviously never stopped to think for a second what her little plot was going to do to the two of us.
Dixie: Well, that's her and Adam, isn't it? They're both the same. It's all about them.
Tad: Well, as far as I'm concerned, from now on, it's all about us.
Dixie: Excellent.
Tad: You know, I like this outfit. I really do.
Dixie: So, what's the story with you and Liza now? I mean when it comes to Chandler Enterprises.
Tad: Well, Baby, as much as I despise what Liza did, I can't just walk away from Chandler Enterprises. I started a project that I want to finish. Sweetheart, I need to make Col-Mar a success. And it would be kind of nice to have something, you know, you could point to with your grandchildren and say, "I made that." I need to make you and the boys proud of you.
Dixie: We are proud of you.
Tad: I know, I know. But this -- this goes a lot deeper than being just a good husband or a good father. You understand that, right?

Liza: What have you done?
Adam: This door is jammed!
Liza: Adam, what have you done?
Adam: Come on.
[BOOM]

Liza: Oh, my --
Adam: Liza? Where are you? Are you hurt? Liza?

Hayley: Dad?
Mateo: Adam, can you hear us?
Hayley: Dad?
Adam: We're here! Help us!
Hayley: Oh, my God. What happened?
Mateo: Liza's right here.
Adam: Liza's not answering. I think she's hurt. Help her.
Mateo: Hold on. Hold on.
Adam: Help her. Hurry!
Hayley: Be careful. Be careful.
Mateo: One, two --
Adam: Get Liza out of here. Call an ambulance.
Hayley: Dad --
Adam: This building is not safe. Hurry!
Hayley: What about you?
Adam: Never mind me.

Hayley: Help me.
Mateo: All right, listen, we're all getting out.
Hayley: Get it.
Adam: Liza?
Hayley: Help me. Help me.
Adam: Get her out. Hayley, I want you out of here, too. Go!
Hayley: Dad? Dad?
Adam: Go! Just go!
Mateo: We'll be back.
Adam: Get out of here!
Mateo: I'm coming back.
Liza: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Where's Adam?
Hayley: No, no, no. It's ok. We're going to get him. We're going to get him. Just walk. Walk. Sit down. You're hurt. You've got to sit still.
Mateo: Ok, ok. I'll go in. I'll go in. You guys just stay here. Keep an eye on her.
Hayley: Be careful.
[BIGGER BOOM]

Hayley: Mateo! No!

Dimitri: You really want to kill me, Edmund? Is that what you want? Is that what you really want?

Alex: Ok, the horses are being saddled. Dimitri? Oh, what's the matter? Is it your heart?
Dimitri: No, no, I'm fine.
Alex: Quick. Sit down. I'll get you some water. What is it?
What happened? Dimitri: I'm fine, thank you.
Alex: Breathe deeply. Edmund? What happened? Did something happen?
Dimitri: It was -- I had a coughing fit. I -- I had them when I was younger. Isn't that right, Edmund? It's all over now. I just got winded there for a second. You see, I'm fine now. I'm ok.
Edmund: I'll get you some more water.
Alex: All right, what just happened?

Dixie: No, of course I understand. And, you know, I want you to go back to Chandler Enterprises and finish what you started. And if the Col-Mar Tower is that important to you, then I'm behind you all the way.
Tad: I definitely don't deserve you.
Dixie: That's right, you don't. But you're stuck with me.
Tad: Good.
Dixie: All I ask is that we keep talking, ok?
Tad: I tell you what -- from now on, you do the talking. I'll do the listening. After all, you warned me months ago at the Crystal Ball not to get involved with Liza and Adam. Wish I'd paid more attention. Maybe everything would have turned out differently if I had.
Dixie: Yeah, well, maybe it would have. But, you know, you didn't single-handedly cause the chain of events that led to Stuart's death.
Tad: I played a part.
Dixie: And you tried to make up for that part. You stood up and you took your share of the responsibility, right? That's what's important.
Tad: You know what? You know what the best thing to come out of this entire thing was?
Dixie: I don't know. Being named co-head of Chandler Enterprises?
Tad: Don't even joke. It's not funny. It's not funny. Seriously, no, it's not. It's realizing how incredibly lucky we are. You remember the day that Jake came over, just stopping in for breakfast, and we were having blueberry pancakes or something? You know, and he watched us yapping over this thing or that thing, and all of a sudden he remarks about how incredibly lucky we are, you know, how good we have it.
Dixie: That's when he was fighting for custody of Colby. I remember.
Tad: The good old days.
Dixie: Another fantastic mess thanks to Liza.
Tad: Yeah, well, that's why I feel sorry for her. Because every single thing she does, you know, the schemes, the plots, the corporate takeover, that was just because she wants what we have. You know? She's desperate for her blueberry pancakes. And somewhere in the back of her mind, she knows for a fact she's never going to have it.
Dixie: She's not going to have it if she's going to try and get it with Adam.
Tad: Jake's right. I am a lucky man. Very lucky.
Dixie: Stop.
Tad: And I love you.
Dixie: You do?
Tad: Very, very much.
Dixie: What are you doing? I love you, too.
Tad: I'm going to show you how much. I like feet. Listen, how do you feel about it? Seriously, we're doing both feet today.

Hayley: Mateo! Mateo, are you ok?
Mateo: Yeah.
Hayley: Are you sure?
Mateo: Yeah.
Liza: Adam? Adam, are you ok?
Hayley: No, wait --
Mateo: Liza --
Hayley: Liza --
Liza: No, I hear something.
Mateo: No --
Hayley: Dad, say something!
Liza: We got to get him out.
Mateo: Listen to me, listen to me, listen to me -- the building is not safe. You can't go in there. Hayley, you've got a cell phone. Call 911.
Liza: Adam?
Mateo: They'll get here.
Liza: Adam? Adam?
Hayley: Hello? This is an emergency. We've had a terrible explosion at the construction site of Col-Mar Tower on Lakeview Drive. We need help. My father's trapped inside. Please hurry.
Mateo: Tell them to hurry. Come on. Adam, we're coming in.

Ryan: Gillian, Joe said that Jake has got skilled surgeons working on him right now. He's just going to need a little bit of time.
Gillian: Thank God we got him out of Chechnya.
Ryan: Yeah. And when he gets back to America and he gets a little bit stronger, then -- then we'll tell him about us. All right? And then it'll be over and there will be no more waiting.
Gillian: Is it right to tell him all that while he's still recovering?
Ryan: I think that he would like to know how you really feel, Gillian. Remember the reason he left in the first place was because everybody was keeping the truth from him about Colby.
Gillian: Especially me.
Ryan: So we tell him this time, ok? He always -- he always suspected that you and I still love each other. There's no denying it. You and I were meant to be together.
Gillian: I've been praying for so long for this day, when we can stop hiding our love, but --
Ryan: But what?
Gillian: I'm just afraid. So much has happened to us, Ryan. And every time we get close to each other, when we try to love each other, something happens.
Ryan: Don't start that again. Don't. Don't. Don't. You said that fate told you to marry Jake. Do you remember that? Nothing is going to come between us, cosmic or otherwise. I will never let you go again.

Gillian: How's Jake, Joe? Is he going to be all right?

Dimitri: I was just concerned for Edmund. I mean, he's trying, but there's a lot of rage under the surface. I know what that can do.
Alex: That doesn't sound like Edmund.
Dimitri: Alex, he's in pain. He loves you, and it is killing him to let you go.
Alex: Maybe we should move out of Wildwind, spare him having to see us all the time
. Dimitri: Wait, wait. You think that's what we should do?
Alex: I don't know. I just -- I don't want to make this situation any more difficult than it already is.
Dimitri: Neither do I. I just -- I don't know. I don't know how to help him. I --

Dimitri: Thank you.
Edmund: Listen, you don't have to stop talking when I -- unless you were talking about me.
Alex: We were talking about moving out of Wildwind.
Dimitri: Edmund, this house -- it belongs to you, and us being here is causing a problem. Alex and I think it's time we left.
Alex: Unless -- unless you want us to stay. I mean, that's your choice.

[Tap on door]
Tad: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Fix your shirt, fix your shirt.
Junior: Oh, sorry. I'll talk to you guys later.
Dixie: No, no, no.
Tad: No, no, no, no, no. Come on in. Come in.
Dixie: Come in.
Junior: No, it's fine.
Dixie: We're just hanging out.
Tad: It's fine, seriously. Come on. We're just having some popcorn.
Dixie: Have some popcorn.
Tad: You want some?
Dixie: What's up?
Junior: Well, first JV soccer game is this Saturday, and I was thinking you guys might want to come along. I'm starting.
Tad: That's great! That's terrific!
Dixie: You're starting!
Tad: Of course we'll be there.
Dixie: Oh, my gosh! That is so wonderful! Give your mama a big hug. Oh! That is so great. Hey, hey, come on. You're never going to be too big or too old to hug your mom. I'm so proud of you.
Tad: Did you tell your brother yet?
Junior: Nope, not yet.
Dixie: Oh, you got to call him up. Call him up and tell Brooke, too. I'm sure they're going to want to come to the game. And tell your dad. Oh, he's going to be so proud of you.
Junior: Don't waste your time, Mom. If you're talking about Adam Chandler, he's not my father anymore.

[Sirens]

Derek: What did you see? When did you get here, Matt?
Mateo: Listen, Derek -- we pulled Liza out, the building blew up. It all happened quickly.
Derek: You think anybody else could be in there?
Hayley: You mean besides my father? I don't think so.
Liza: Derek, can we do this later? Can somebody go in there and get Adam out?
Derek: Liza, the fire department, the EMT's are all over this. The more information I get, the better.
Liza: Fine, ok. Why don't you just do all the talking, ok? I'm not going to wait any longer.
Derek: Yes, you are, Liza. Look, you're going to stay here and let one of the paramedics take a look at you. Vic, John, over here. Now, look, we haven't even determined whether this building is safe to go in or not.
Liza: Stop it, Derek! Go ahead. Why don't you just determine. I'm not waiting.
Derek: Yes, you will. Now, look -- now, look, I will cuff you, and I will put you in the back of a squad car if I have to. You hear me? I will. Just calm down.
Hayley: Please, please, you're not going to he them if you get in their way. They're working as fast as they can.
Derek: Look, fellows, this is Liza Colby. Get her to a hospital. I'll be right back.
Liza: I'm not going anywhere. Just back off.

Arlene: Oh, my God. What has happened? Where's Adam? Is he in there?
Liza: You and Adam wanted to sabotage this building, right? Well, why don't you take a really good luck because you won. And Adam might die because of it.
Arlene: Oh, my God. He's in there?

Paramedic: We've got someone.
Liza: Adam? Adam, are you ok?
Adam: Liza? Liza? Get out, Liza.
Liza: Adam? Hold on.

Derek: All right, get them back, fellows. Get them back, get them back! Get them back. Look, they're sending in a rescue squad to pry Adam out from under the rubble.
Liza: Well, is he alive, Derek?
Derek: Yes. Yes, Liza, he's alive. But we can't waste any more time, so stay back. Everybody, stay back. We're going in.

Arlene: Adam! Let go of me! I'm his wife.
Mateo: Don't you think you've done enough? Huh?
Arlene: What are you talking about? You think I wanted this to happen?
Mateo: You don't think. You don't think about anything but yourself. As usual.
Arlene: It's not my fault.
Mateo: Oh, please. I saw you talking to that contractor.
Arlene: You don't know anything.
Mateo: You wanted this place to be sabotaged? You succeeded. Not your fault? If he dies, it's on you. All right?
Arlene: No. No! He can't die. He just can't die.
Liza: He came back to rescue me. He knew that I was in the building, and he risked his life for me.
Hayley: That's because he still loves you, Liza.
Liza: I should have known. I should have -- I should have seen this coming.
Hayley: If anybody can make it out of this, my father can. He's a fighter. He's going to make it.

Paramedic: Where is he?
Firefighter: Right over there. Let's hope it's not too late.

Junior: Adam just doesn't exist in my life anymore.
Dixie: Honey, don't say that about your father.
Junior: Why not, Mom?
Dixie: Because he loves you.
Junior: Do you think he cares?
Dixie: Yes. He loves you. He always will.
Junior: He doesn't. He says he's too busy and he's got things to do. He doesn't want to be bothered with me. And he sure won't come to some stupid soccer game.
Dixie: Don't say that, ok? No matter what, Adam's your father, and he loves you. I know he's been difficult lately. He's still grieving for your Uncle Stuart.
Junior: I know. And I've tried talking to him. But you know what he said? To consider him dead. To think of Uncle Stuart as my father, not him. You know what? They're both dead. So don't talk to me about fathers anymore.

Dixie: Junior?
Tad: No, no, no. Let him go, sweetie. You can't fix this.
Dixie: Honey, I should go talk to him.
Tad: Seriously, ok? He knows we're here if he needs us. Just give him a minute. Please? He's got to work this thing out for himself, so just give him a little time. It's all right. It's ok.

Joe: The operation's over. Jake's in recovery. The bullet was intact, and they were able to remove it.
Gillian: Oh, thank God.
Joe: As far as his prognosis goes, we'll have to wait and see.
Ryan: How long?
Joe: Long as it takes.
Ryan: Right. Of course.
Joe: Ryan, I really don't know what your role in all of this is or why you're here, but I understand you helped Adrian get my son and those children out of danger. And for that, I'm very, very grateful.
Ryan: You really don't have to thank me, Sir. Jake saved my life, too.
Joe: Yes, I heard that.
Ryan: Well, Adrian's on his way over. We heard from him while you were in surgery. I guess the kids are all going to be ok.
Joe: That's good to know. Ryan, would you mind if I had a moment with Gillian alone, please?
Ryan: No. No, of course not. I'll go round up some coffee or something.

Gillian: Joe, is there something you're not telling me?
Joe: Sit down, Gillian. The operation was tougher than was expected. The bullet was lodged against Jake's spine. And there was some damage. What the long-term implications of that are we don't know yet.
Gillian: Oh, God.
Joe: I love my son. And I know you love him, too.
Gillian: I do. He's a good man.
Joe: Yeah. Gillian, he's going to need your help. Can I count on you?
Gillian: I'll do whatever I can.
Joe: Thank you. Thank you.

Edmund: Ok, you want me to make the decision for you? Alex: No, we're not asking that. It's just we just don't want this to be any harder than it already is.
Dimitri: Edmund, Wildwind belongs to you.
Edmund: Yeah, it does, Dimi. Sometimes I forget that -- that our father didn't leave it to both of us. He left it to me, this big estate, just to try to make up for -- how would Hugo put it, Dimi? The shortcomings of my childhood?
Dimitri: I have always thought that you have been more than gracious and made me feel like this was my home, too. That is why Alex and I decided to come to the Hunting Lodge when we were first married.
Alex: Everything's so different now.
Edmund: That's an understatement.
Dimitri: Yeah, it is. I think we have our answer, Alex.
Edmund: Wait. You said I could make the decision. I'd like you to stay.
Alex: We don't want you to feel pressured in any way to keep us here.
Edmund: Thanks, Alex, but it won't be a problem. I want you to stay for Sam and Maddie's sake. They've suffered enough loss. I'd hate to put them through another one.

Tad: Baby, you've got to believe me. He's not so much angry as he is hurt. It's incredibly painful for whatever reason to feel like you've been rejected by your father. I know. I mean, my real father was a slime, but it was still incredibly painful to feel like he wasn't capable of loving me.
Dixie: I just can't believe that Adam is doing this to him. You know, I -- I just can't believe that he would say something like that. I told him to behave himself. I know that he loves Junior.
Tad: So do I. And the fact is when Adam finally does come to his senses, he's going to have a lot of work to do.

[Telephone rings]

Dixie: Hello.
Liza: Hi, Dixie. This is Liza.
Dixie: Liza, Tad has already talked to me about everything concerning New York, so there's really no need to explain any further, ok?
Liza: No, this is about something else. I really need to talk to Tad. Please. It's important.

Dixie: It's Liza.

Tad: For God's sake. Look, Liza, whatever the hell it is, it can wait until tomorrow in the office, ok?
Liza: No, it can't. It's about the Col-Mar Tower. There's been a terrible accident. It's -- it's collapsed.
Tad: You were there when it happened?
Liza: Yeah.
Tad: Oh, my God. Well, is anybody hurt? You ok?
Liza: No, I'm ok. But Adam's still in the building, and they're trying to get him out. And he might not make it.
Dixie: What is it? What happened?

Hayley: Dad! Dad!
Mateo: Let the EMT's work on him.
Paramedic: He's alive, but his breathing's shallow.
Second paramedic: He got head trauma. We need to get to the ER right away.
Arlene: He's alive? Adam?
Adam: I want -- want my wife.
Arlene: Did you hear that? I'm here. I'm here.
Adam: Liza. I want Liza.

Dixie: Honey, what is it?
Tad: There's been an accident. The Col-Mar Tower just collapsed.
Dixie: Oh, my God. Did anybody get hurt?
Tad: Sweetheart, Adam was in the building. They can't get him out. Liza doesn't know whether he's going to live or die.

Arlene: Adam, it's me.
Paramedic: Please step aside, miss.
Arlene: No, I'm his wife.
Liza: Adam? Adam, can you hear me?
Derek: Look, there's only room for one other person in the ambulance. Who's it going to be?
Arlene: He asked for his wife. I'm going with him.
Liza: Don't even think about it.
Arlene: He's my husband.
Liza: Not tonight he's not.
Hayley: Liza, we'll meet you at the hospital.

Joe: Ryan, why don't we give them some time alone together, ok?

Alex: Was that Edmund who just left?
Dimitri: Yeah, yeah. Hopefully a walk will help cool him down.
Alex: Or maybe a ride. Oh, we never took ours, did we?
Dimitri: No. With all -- everything that happened, I forgot about it, too.
Alex: Do you think we should stay, really? Do you think --
Dimitri: You having second thoughts?
Alex: Well, I just know that things have been very difficult for you and your brother at times, and --
Dimitri: Long ago.
Alex: I just don't want to ignite anything again.
Dimitri: Alex, Edmund and I have been through much worse. And anyway, aren't brothers supposed to have it out from time to time? Yeah, I think that's in the Bible.
Alex: Yes, it is.
Dimitri: Yeah. Look, since it looks like I'm going to be here -- around for a while, why don't we just think about us just for a minute.
Alex: I'd like that. I'd really like that.
Dimitri: I just want to tell you how thankful I am that I know I'm going to live my life without -- with you in it. Now, I know it's hard right now, but when I'm healthy and we're together, we have so much.
Alex: Yeah, we do. We do.
Dimitri: Here's a little something to think about. I don't know. It might be too soon.
Alex: No, tell me, tell me.
Dimitri: Well, after everything settles down, what if you and I renewed our wedding vows, started over with nothing looming over our heads?
Alex: Yeah, I would like that. I -- I just don't know if it would be too much for Edmund.
Dimitri: It would be after all of this is out of the way. We could have it on the terrace. Our friends and our family. And by then, with the grace of god, Edmund might even be my best man.
Alex: That would be wonderful. I'd really like to start over again with the man I love.

Edmund: Having a good laugh there Hugo? Huh? Your bastard son -- you gave him this big estate. What is that? It's nothing. I still lose. What do I do? I just get to keep you. But your real son, your oldest son, your only son, yeah, what does he get? He's the winner again, isn't he? Yeah, Dimitri, you always win the end. You don't belong here, Dimi.

ON THE NEXT - - - - ALL MY CHILDREN

Stuart: It's Adam. He's getting weaker.

Arlene: I am going to go home and get Stuart. I'm going to give him a reason to live.
Vanessa: You do that, and your party is over.

Junior: I love you. I don't want you to die.

David: We're losing him.
Adam: Stuart, I'm coming.
